I want to create my own customized Ubuntu derivative and this question already gave me a very good start. My requirements are quite specific I want to roll out a CD with
Set of users who are supposed to run them (root, admin, guest) pre-installed
With their passwords already set
Installation not asking for creating users on booting or during OS installation
Autologin to guest user
Is this even possible?
Thanks to the community in advance :)
I m using Wubi 12.04. While I installed, the disk size was 18 GB. Now I m almost running out the space. But I have enough space in Windows drive in which I installed Wubi.
I tried to increase the size of Ubuntu from this link
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ResizeandDuplicateWubiDisk
But It gives the msg
wubi-resize.sh: The new size (5 GB) isn't sufficient to hold your
wubi-resize.sh: existing install (18 GB) plus a freespace buffer
What should I do?

I am creating my first ever major plugin for Wordpress and I intend to share it to the community. It integrates paypal's subscription button which is very useful for people who wishe to build a membership site using Wordpress. Question: Is IPN reliable enough that there's no need to control the subscription thru cron myself? I have not tested my plugin for a span of a month or so though because doing so would eat a lot of my time.

One very common structure that needs to be handled in T-SQL is the hierarchy. One of our prominent members of the community discusses how you can handle hierarchies in SQL Server.

Firefox 4.0 is not yet stable as beta and has lots of bugs when I open mainly Java applications in the web.Usually it freeze and even mess with Ubuntu gnome panel.
It seems I cannot find any PPA related with Firefox beta updates in my Software source .

I previously mentioned I was working on a community authored eBook for the Windows Azure Platform. Well, today I assembled the 20 articles that made it through to the end of the review process into a single eBook – and it looks (and reads) great. Still a lot more to do (and stuff in the way of me doing it) but as a teaser, here is the (very draft) table of contents:
if you are within 30-40 miles of Joplin, you have got to check out http://www.broadbandbeyondborders.com/
Google is going to provide fiber-to-the-home in one community in the US. Broadband Beyond Borders will give them the experience of dealing with 6 counties, 3 states, and 10 nations (the US and 9 native american n...ations.) Follow the instructions on the web page. It was pretty simple.

JSR 358, A major revision of the Java Community Process was submitted for JSR Review on Thursday. This JSR will modify
the JSPA as well as the Process Document, and will tackle a large number of
complex issues, many of them postponed from JSR 348. For these reasons, the JCP EC (acting as the Expert Group for this JSR), expects
to spend a considerable amount of time working on it - at least a year, and
probably more. Read more from the Spec Lead, Patrick Curran, in his latest blog post for more details.

How important, if at all, is what school you go to towards your job prospects coming out of college? That is, how much difference is there between how a graduate of MIT/Stanford/etc treated vs RIT vs Monroe Community College vs Joe's Discount Diploma shop?
I'm asking specifically outside of the education itself, and more towards the perceived value of your degree to prospective employers. What do you think?

Hello, id like to support Ubuntu One, and enhance my project at http://biochar.me The website uses Joomla.org 1 of the most widely used CMS on the net and version 1.6 got released a few weeks ago.
Now my question:
Are there plans to deliver a component, to enhance the user experience for example with sharing files?
http://joomlapolis.com releases their CB - Community Builder component for joomla on the 14th and for example a CB Plugin for Ubuntu One integration would be a great addition.
Looking forward to your feedback.
A lot of these things are usually behind NDAs and tricky to gauge. Is there any information and ranges on how much these thing costs?
For example, the PS1 had the "Net Yaroze", which according to Wikipedia was: "For about $750 USD, the Net Yaroze (DTL-H300x) package would contain a special black-colored debugging PlayStation unit with documentation, software, and no regional lockout."
So, what were the prices of some game development kits?
P.S: This might make a good community wiki
