  • ASP.Net: Finding the cause of OutOfMemoryExpcetions

    - by Keith Bloom
I trying to track down the cause of an OutOfMemory for a website. This site has ~12,000 .aspx pages and the last time it crashed I captured a memory dump using adplus. After some investigation I found a lot of heap fragmentation, there are around 100MB of Free blocks which can't be assigned. Digging deeper one of the Large Object Heaps is fragmented and the causes seems to be String interning as described [here][1] Could this be caused by the number of pages in the site? As they are all compiled they sit in memory and by looking at the dump they are interned and PINNED which I think means they stick around for a while. I would find this odd as there are many sites with more pages, but dynamic compilation could account for the growth in memory. What other methods are there for finding the cause of the memory leak? I have tried to capture a dump using adplus in hang mode but this fails and the IIS worker process get recycled. [1]: • http://stackoverflow.com/questions/686950/large-object-heap-fragmentation

  • format specifier for short integer

    - by cateof
I don't use correctly the format specifiers in C. A few lines of code: int main() { char dest[]="stack"; unsigned short val = 500; char c = 'a'; char* final = (char*) malloc(strlen(dest) + 6); snprintf(final, strlen(dest)+6, "%c%c%hd%c%c%s", c, c, val, c, c, dest); printf("%s\n", final); return 0; } I want my executable to print aa500aastack and not aa500aasta Why I am loosing 2 byte? What is the correct format specifier for an unsighed short integer? thanks.

  • regular expression code

    - by Gaia Andreoletti
    Deal all, I need to find match between two tab delimited files files like this: File 1: ID1 1 65383896 65383896 G C PCNXL3 ID1 2 56788990 55678900 T A ACT1 ID1 1 56788990 55678900 T A PRO55 File 2 ID2 34 65383896 65383896 G C MET5 ID2 2 56788990 55678900 T A ACT1 ID2 2 56788990 55678900 T A HLA what I would like to do is to retrive the matching line between the two file. What I would like to match is everyting after the gene ID So far I have written this code but unfortunately perl keeps giving me the error: use of "Use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//)" Could you please help me figure out where i am doing it wrong? Thank you in advance! use strict; open (INA, $ARGV[0]) || die "cannot to open gene file"; open (INB, $ARGV[1]) || die "cannot to open coding_annotated.var files"; my @sample1 = <INA>; my @sample2 = <INB>; foreach my $line (@sample1) { my @tab = split (/\t/, $line); my $chr = $tab[1]; my $start = $tab[2]; my $end = $tab[3]; my $ref = $tab[4]; my $alt = $tab[5]; my $name = $tab[6]; foreach my $item (@sample2){ my @fields = split (/\t/,$item); if ($fields[1]=~ m/$chr(.*)/ && $fields[2]=~ m/$start(.*)/ && $fields[4]=~ m/$ref(.*)/ && $fields[5]=~ m/$alt(.*)/&& $fields[6]=~ m/$name(.*)/){ print $line,"\n",$item; } } }

  • How to debug problems in Linux kernel module `init()`?

    - by Kimvais
I am using remote (k)gdb to debug a problem in a module that causes a panic when loaded e.g. when init() is called. The stack trace just shows that do_one_initcall(mod->init) causes the crash. In order to get the symbol file loaded in the gdb, I need to get the address of the module text section, and to get that I need to get the module loaded. Because the insmod in busybox (1.16.1) doesn't support -m so I'm stuck to grep modulename /proc/modules + adding the offset from nm to figure out the address. So I'm facing a sort a of a chicken and an egg problem here - to be able to debug the module loading, I need to get the module loaded - but in order to get the module loaded, I need to debug the problem... So I am currently thinking about two options - is there a way to get the address information either: by printk() in the module init code by printk() somewhere in the kernel code all this prior to calling the mod->init() - so I could place a breakpoint there, load the symbol file, hit c and see it crash and burn...

  • How do you reproduce bugs that occur sporadically?

    - by furtelwart
We have a bug in our application that does not occur every time and therefore we don't know its "logic". I don't even get it reproduced in 100 times today. Disclaimer: This bug exists and I've seen it. It's not a pebkac or something similar. What are common hints to reproduce this kind of bug?

  • "One or more breakpoints cannot be set and have been disabled. Execution will stop at the beginning

    - by sam
I set a breakpoint in my code in Visual-C++, but when I run, I see the error mentioned in the title. I know this question has been asked before on Stack Overflow (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/657470/breakpoints-cannot-be-set-and-have-been-disabled-problem), but none of the answers there fully explained the problem I'm seeing. The closest I can see is something about the linker, but I don't understand that - so if someone could explain in more detail that would be great. In my case, I have 2 projects in Visual C++ - the production dsw, and the test code dsw. I have loaded and rebuilt both dsws in debug mode. I want a breakpoint in the production code, which is run via the test scripts. My issue is I get the error message when I run the test code, because the break point is in the production code, which isn't loaded up when the test starts. Near the beginning of the test script there is a mytest_initialize() command. I imagine this goes off and loads up the production dll. Once this line has executed, I can put the breakpoint in my production code and run until I hit it. But it's quite annoying to have to run to this line, set the breakpoint and continue every time I want to run the test. So I think the problem is Visual C++ doesn't realise the two projects are related. Is this a linker issue? What does the linker do and what settings should I change to make this work? Thanks in advance. Apologies if instead I should be appending this question to the existing one, this is my first post so not quite sure how this should work.

  • How to use NetBeans to debug C++ libraries not compiled with NetBeans?

    - by Paul Gotzel
Hello, I am using NetBeans 6.8 on Redhat Linux. Does anyone know how to configure NetBeans to debug (step into) libraries not compiled with NetBeans? In my particular case, I'm trying to debug the VTK library which is built using cmake with the Debug flag set. I've written a C++ application that uses the shared libraries from VTK. Any ideas? I'd tried the obvious things like adding the source locations to the project. Note that with gdb I can debug the application and set breakpoints anywhere in VTK. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul

  • How can I debug this web service http handler?

    - by baron
Hello everyone, I am building a Httphandler following these instructions here It manipulates HTTP POST and HTTP GET. I have a client with two buttons two POST and GET. After i've tested and happy everythings working I move it from localhost to IIS. Now when I do this I get an exception in the POST handler code. How on earth can I debug this code line by line? I managed to do this awhile ago, I thought it was by attaching to process but I can't work it out. I can emulate GET just by typing address in browser, post im not sure about. I've tried telnetting and sending it from there but haven't had any luck.

  • Google App Engine with local Django 1.1 gets Intermittent Failures

    - by Jon Watte
I'm using the Windows Launcher development environment for Google App Engine. I have downloaded Django 1.1.2 source, and un-tarrred the "django" subdirectory to live within my application directory (a peer of app.yaml) At the top of each .py source file, I do this: import settings import os os.environ["DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE"] = 'settings' In my file settings.py (which lives at the root of the app directory, as well), I do this: DEBUG = True TEMPLATE_DIRS = ('html') INSTALLED_APPS = ('filters') import os os.environ["DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE"] = 'settings' from google.appengine.dist import use_library use_library('django', '1.1') from django.template import loader Yes, this looks a bit like overkill, doesn't it? I only use django.template. I don't explicitly use any other part of django. However, intermittently I get one of two errors: 1) Django complains that DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE is not defined. 2) Django complains that common.html (a template I'm extending in other templates) doesn't exist. 95% of the time, these errors are not encountered, and they randomly just start happening. Once in that state, the local server seems "wedged" and re-booting it generally fixes it. What's causing this to happen, and what can I do about it? How can I even debug it? Here is the traceback from the error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\code\kwbudget\edit_budget.py", line 34, in get self.response.out.write(t.render(template.Context(values))) File "C:\code\kwbudget\django\template\__init__.py", line 165, in render return self.nodelist.render(context) File "C:\code\kwbudget\django\template\__init__.py", line 784, in render bits.append(self.render_node(node, context)) File "C:\code\kwbudget\django\template\__init__.py", line 797, in render_node return node.render(context) File "C:\code\kwbudget\django\template\loader_tags.py", line 71, in render compiled_parent = self.get_parent(context) File "C:\code\kwbudget\django\template\loader_tags.py", line 66, in get_parent raise TemplateSyntaxError, "Template %r cannot be extended, because it doesn't exist" % parent TemplateSyntaxError: Template u'common.html' cannot be extended, because it doesn't exist And edit_budget.py starts with exactly the lines that I included up top. All templates live in a directory named "html" in my root directory, and "html/common.html" exists. I know the template engine finds them, because I start out with "html/edit_budget.html" which extends common.html. It looks as if the settings module somehow isn't applied (because that's what adds html to the search path for templates).

  • how to use .mdf while developing

    - by Masna
I use a .mdf database for my asp.net Mvc project. The project is on source control on a tfs. When I debug the project, Visual Studio copies the database in to the debugmap. The problem is, when I debug next time, the changes (while testing the previous time) in the database are gone. The reason of this I know, Visual studio copies the original database again in to the debug map. Can I change some settings in Visual studio to work always on the same database without copying the database after each debug session myself? So I can keep my modified records? Or how do I have to work with my database while developing? Greets

  • -webkit-transition-property for translation

    - by sexyprout
Hai. What is the transition property for translations in CSS3? I'm currently using all but I got a bug in iOS so I want to test another property. -webkit-transform: translate(-320px, 0);   -webkit-transition: ??? .5 ease-in-out; See the bug with an iOS device here (swipe horizontally), there's a kind of flash. Update: to anyone interested, I found a way to fix it thanks to Duopixel: E { -webkit-transition: all .5s ease-in-out; -webkit-transform: translate3d(0, 0, 0); // perform an "invisible" translation } // Then you can translate with translate3d(), no bug! document.querySelector('E').webkitTransform = 'translate3d(-320px, 0, 0)'

  • How to debug an App on Android with GDBSERVER?

    - by cjserio
I'm trying to debug a native shared library that my App uses through JNI. I can attach to a running app just fine with "gdbserver --attach pid" but i need to actually launch my app when i launch the gdbserver command. There's a million blog hits on this topic but none of them seem to be clear as to how you launch your app. They all say to just type "gdbserver 10.0.2.2:1234 ./MyProgram" but what exactly is "MyProgram". Is that MyProgram.apk? Is it MyProgram.so? Is it some other file that gets created when the app is installed? If so, what's its path?

  • Will NKDbgPrintfW be compiled to nop in release build?

    - by Johann Gerell
I know about and have used the macros DEBUGMSG, RETAILMSG, ERRORMSG, that all take a condition parameter. For general formatted debug output, though, I want to use ::NKDbgPrintfW directly and wonder if someone knows if it compiles to a nop in optimised release builds or if my own macro wrapper around it with #ifdef DEBUG is still needed?
