  • All application passwords lost on Windows 7

    A couple of days ago I changed my Windows 7 login password. My laptop is on my company's domain, so password changes are done over the internal network. Since changing the password I noticed that all my saved Chrome passwords are missing. Also Skype, Windows Live, Internet Explorer and Outlook lost their saved passwords. I guess there could be more applications with lost passwords, but I have not opened them yet. This makes me think that most applications saves their passwords to a general password vault on the Windows system and this vault got somehow corrupted when I changed my domain login password for windows. Do anyone have any idea of how to fix this and prevent it from happening again? EDIT : More Info I do development work at the office, so most of the time I bypass the firewall and connect directly to the internet gateway. Now and then I would connect to the company wifi network to do printing and access files on a NAS. So by default my laptop does not connect to the wifi hotspot. On this occasion to update the password, I had to connect to the wifi. So referring to the comment by OmnipotentEntity below, could this have happened when the system rebooted without a connection to the network as the laptop does not auto connect to the wifi hotspot?

I would like to implement a XML-RPC method to provide registration to the system. Obviously, this method should not require username and password.     Is there a way to make SSH port not get sent through VPN so when my computer is connected to a VPN, it can still be remoted in via SSH from its non-VPN IP? I am using Mint Linux 13. Type: sudo restart network-manager Download BTGuard certificate (CA) by typing: sudo wget -O /etc/openvpn/btguard.ca.crt http://btguard.com/btguard.ca.crt Click on the Network Manager icon, expand VPN Connections, and choose Configure VPN A Network Connections window will appear with the VPN tab open. Click Add. 8. A Choose A VPN Connection Type window will open. Select OpenVPN in the drop-down menu and click Create.. . In the Editing VPN connection window, enter the following: Connection name: BTGuard VPN Gateway: vpn.btguard.com Optional: Manually select your server location by using ca.vpn.btguard.com for Canada or eu.vpn.btguard.com for Germany. Type: select Password User name: username Password: password CA Certificate: browse and select this file: /etc/openvpn/btguard.ca.crt Click Advanced... near the bottom of the window. Under the General tab, check the box next to Use a TCP connection Click OK, then click Apply. Setup complete! How To Connect Click on the Network Manager icon in the panel bar.   • Why is ssh agent forwarding not working?

    In my own computer, running MacOSX, I have this in ~/.ssh/config Host * ForwardAgent yes Host b1 ForwardAgent yes b1 is a virtual machine running Ubuntu 12.04. I ssh to it like this: ssh pupeno@b1 and I get logged in without being asked for a password because I already copied my public key. Due to forwarding, I should be able to ssh to pupeno@b1 from b1 and it should work, without asking me for a password, but it doesn't. It asks me for a password. What am I missing?     i had a previously working configuration with the config files used in a previous question However, i've changed this now to the following configuration using server mode, everything on the logs seem fine, however the client doesn't create any tun interface, so i don't have anything to connect to, presumably, i need to add or push some route commands, but i don't have any idea at this point what i need to do.   • ASP.NET MVC Html.ValidationSummary(true) does not display model errors

    I have some problem with Html.ValidationSummary. I don't want to display property errors in ValidationSummary. And when I set Html.ValidationSummary(true) it does not display error messages from ModelState. When there is some Exception in controller action on string MembersManager.RegisterMember(member); catch section adds an error to the ModelState: ModelState.AddModelError("error", ex.Message); But ValidationSummary does not display this error message. When I set Html.ValidationSummary(false) all messages are displaying, but I don't want to display property errors. How can I fix this problem?     I have a DLL that I would like to install into the Global Assembly Cache so that it can be referenced from multiple locations. I have a File declaration with the Assembly attribute set to ".net" but when the installation tries to install the DLL into the GAC, I get the following error (I have tided it up a bit to make it more readable): MSI (s) (58:38) [19:14:31:031]: Product: MyProductName 1.01 -- Error 1935.   • Can't clone gitosis-admin.git local from my snow leopard server running gitosis

    I've installed gitosis as described here: http://gist.github.com/264304 One of the things that I had to adjust was to give my git user permissions to use ssh (which I did trough server admin - access - ssh and added the 'git' user). When I ssh from my local machine (mac osx) as the git user, I get this response: PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 bash: gitosis-serve: command not found Connection to 10.0.0.108 closed. Which I think is normal, because in Pro GIT the author says you should get something like this if you try ssh'ing to the server using your git user: PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 fatal: unrecognized command 'gitosis-serve schacon@quaternion' Connection to gitserver closed. So far so good, I think? Now when I try to clone my gitosis-admin.git repository using this command: $git clone [email protected]:gitosis-admin.git I get this: Initialized empty Git repository in /Users/joggink/gitosis-admin/.git/ bash: gitosis-serve: command not found fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly So after doing some searching, I found an answer here on serverfault claiming I should use ssh:// as protocol for my git clone (which I thought is the default git protocol?)   • Javascript crazy idea finding a node

    I had a crazy (but so crazy that it just might work) idea where every element on a page is created in javascript but given an ID which is a hash of its path in the DOM. So instead of searching through the DOM to find an element, you hash the path and then getElementById() with that hash. Problem with this is getting the path might be more expensive than searching the DOM in the first place. Any ideas how this could be done or if it is just plain stupid?

    Hello, I'm having a rather common problem (or so it seems, after some googling around...) with IE messing both bold text AND transparent pngs while animating opacity using jQuery.   • C# WPF application is using too much memory while GC.GetTotalMemory() is low

    I wrote little WPF application with 2 threads - main thread is GUI thread and another thread is worker. App has one WPF form with some controls. There is a button, allowing to select directory. After selecting directory, application scans for .jpg files in that directory and checks if their thumbnails are in hashtable. if they are, it does nothing. else it's adding their full filenames to queue for worker. Worker is taking filenames from this queue, loading JPEG images (using WPF's JpegBitmapDecoder and BitmapFrame), making thumbnails of them (using WPF's TransformedBitmap) and adding them to hashtable. Everything works fine, except memory consumption by this application when making thumbnails for big images (like 5000x5000 pixels). I've added textboxes on my form to show memory consumption (GC.GetTotalMemory() and Process.GetCurrentProcess().PrivateMemorySize64) and was very surprised, cuz GC.GetTotalMemory() stays close to 1-2 Mbytes, while private memory size constantly grows, especially when loading new image (~ +100Mb per image). Even after loading all images, making thumbnails of them and freeing original images, private memory size stays at ~700-800Mbytes. My VirtualBox is limited to 512Mb of physical memory and Windows in VirtualBox starts to swap alot to handle this huge memory consumption. I guess I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know how to investigate this problem, cuz according to GC, allocated memory size is very low. I've added the users i want to log in with to a group (sshusers) and added that group to /etc/sshd_config: AllowGroups sshusers I'm not sure what to try next as i don't get a clear error anywhere. I would like to enable specific accounts to log in so that i can disable root. This is a GridServer/Media Temple (CentOS).

    Strangely enough I am more familiar with jQuery than I am with javascript. I need to be able to add a class to the body tag of a document depending on what specific forum page i'm on in a phpbb forum. Due to the nature of phpbb I can't actually do this flow control in php, so I am using jquery. Here's my code (the first part is an extend that gets the url parameters like so http://www.mysite.com/viewforum.php?f=3 var forum = $.getUrlVar('f'); will make forum == 3 because of the nature of phpbb i can't really do any flow control with php. So I am using jquery.     I know there's a Rest API to check the Twitter rate limit. To summarize policy: 150 for an IP, and 150 per non-whitelisted account except for searches (which are IP only). However, my app is using Twython, authenticated, but the limit seems to decrease for both my accounts as I use it.   • SQL Server Search Proper Names Full Text Index vs LIKE + SOUNDEX

    I have a database of names of people that has (currently) 35 million rows. I need to know what is the best method for quickly searching these names. The current system (not designed by me), simply has the first and last name columns indexed and uses "LIKE" queries with the additional option of using SOUNDEX (though I'm not sure this is actually used much). Performance has always been a problem with this system, and so currently the searches are limited to 200 results (which still takes too long to run). So, I have a few questions: Does full text index work well for proper names? If so, what is the best way to query proper names? (CONTAINS, FREETEXT, etc) Is there some other system (like Lucene.net) that would be better? Just for reference, I'm using Fluent NHibernate for data access, so methods that work will with that will be preferred. I'm using SQL Server 2008 currently. EDIT I want to add that I'm very interested in solutions that will deal with things like commonly misspelled names, eg 'smythe', 'smith', as well as first names, eg 'tomas', 'thomas'.   • Active directory integration not working properly with winbind and samba

    I'm trying to get my linux box to use active directory authentication. I believe I have almost everything setup correctly. I'm able to issue wbinfo -g and wbinfo -u and see all the groups and users respectively. Brief intro to my setup: The username I use on my linux box to do admin things is nick. My active directory username is nwalke. They have two different passwords. I am able to log in to the box with nick and that user's password and I'm also able to login as nwalke with nwalke's password. The curious bit: Upon creating the active directory user's home directory, I run a script that requires root access. This is to setup some system wide things like a samba share for them. When I log in as nwalke, I enter my nwalke password and it succeeds. I'm then greeted with [sudo] password for nick:. If I enter my nwalke password here, it says Sorry, try again.. If I enter nick's password, it says Sorry, user nick is not allowed to execute scriptname as root. If I do groups as nwalke, I see that magically my user has been given the group nick. Now, I accidentally thought that nick had a UID of 100, not 1000. So originally in my smb.conf I had idmap uid 1000-10000. The only thing I can think of, is that I logged in with nwalke while that was still set and now I'm just being presented with a UID of 1000 forcing linux to think I'm nick. I'm not really sure where to go from here. Like I said, I'm fairly certain active directory is communicating with my server properly, but something must not be mapped right on the linux side. Any thoughts? My problem is that when I have finished to type my login and change the focus to the password field, there is a cursor on the login field and on the password field, but the focus is on the password field, so my question is, how can I make the cursor disappear on the login field ? These is the questions, I have been asking and researching to debug this issue Is it because I am using Linux for magento and Windows for Database. I have had no luck in finding a reason why this wouldn't work There must be something, I am missing I also researched the difference between linux sql databases and windows sql databases but have not come to conclusion, if installing Mysql on windows would make a difference in syntax and coding. And in this process I'm trying to implement a content loader that basically removes all content from a div and inserts content from another div from a different document. I mean, if the code just wipes out existing content from a div and inserts content from another div, why does the other webpages in this example include doctype and heading etc etc? Wouldn't you just need the div and it's content? Without all the other stuff "around"? Maybe I don't get how this works though. Thought it worked mosly like include really.
