  • jQuery : how to determine that a div is scrolled down

    I have a div with defined height, and overflow:scroll;. Its content is too long so scrollbars appear. Now for the ichy part. Some of its inner HTML strangely appears all the time (to be precise, the footer of a table generated by the tableFilter plugin). I'd like to make this footer disappear when it is not needed (it actually appears out of the containing <div>'s border). I resolved to make it disappear but setting its z-index to -1000. But I want to make it appear when the containing <div> is totally scrolled down. How can I know the user has scrolled at the bottom ? Using the help from answers below, I used scrollTop attribute but the difference between scrollTop and innerHeight is the size of the scrollbar plus some unidentified delta. A scrollbar is 16 pixels high in most browsers under Windows, but I get a difference of 17 in Firefox and something like 20 in IE, where my <div> content's borders seems to be rendered bigger. A way (actually two ways...) to compute the scrollbar size has been given there.

  • What is better for a student programming in C++ to learn for writing GUI: C# vs QT?

    I'm a teacher(instructor) of CS in the university. The course is based on Cormen and Knuth and students program algorithms in C++. But sometimes it is good to show how an algorithm works or just a result of task through GUI. Also in my opinion it's very imporant to be able to write full programs. They will have courses concerning GUI but a three years, later, in fact, before graduatuion. I think that they should be able to write simple GUI applications earlier. So I want to teach them it. How do you think, what is more useful for them to learn: programming GUI with QT or writing GUI in C# and calling unmanaged C++ library? Update. For developing C++ applications students use MS Visual studio, so C# is already installed. But QT AFAIK also can be integrated into VS. I have following pros of C# (some were suggested there in answers): The need to make an additional layer. It's more work, but it forces you explicitly specify contract between GUI and processing data. The border between GUI and algorithms becomes very clear. It's more popular among employers. At least, in Russia where we live. It's rather common to write performance-critical algorithms in C++ and PInvoke them from well-looking C# application/ASP.Net website. Maybe it is not so widespread in the rest of the world but in Russia Windows is very popular, especially in companies and corporations due to some reasons, so most of b2b applications are Windows applications. Rapid development. It's much quicker to code in .Net then in C++ due to many reasons. And the con is that it's a new language with own specific for students. And the mess with invoking calls to library.

I am now working on modify the provided template (from DevExpress) to create new web form using ASP.NET 2.0 on Visual Studio 2008. While the functionality of that web form is there, I am in the process of get rid of ninety something warning message, most of them come from the provided template. However I just realize it is quite tricky, because I want the user select for example tag1, tag2 and tag3, with the mouse. Instead now they disappear when the mouse rolls out from the puppet image.   • How to get attributes from both relative and absolute positioning

    I have a footer that i want to attach to the bottom of the page using bottom:0px. However, I also want to center it by using margin-left:auto; and margin-right:auto;. Effectively, this will stick the footer to the bottom of the page while keeping it centered vertically. Unfortunately, these cannot be used together as bottom:0px requires position:relative while margin-left:auto and margin-right:auto require position:absolute. How can I get both of these attributes onto the same div without creating a container? If not possible, what is a clean way of getting both these attributes?     I'm new to jQuery and trying to combine the use of a tooltip plugin and a lightbox plugin. More specifically, I am using Colorbox (http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/) and vtip. Can anyone explain to me why this is and possibly offer some solutions to fix this problem?

  • CSS:Hover's problem with text that is hidden because of overflow:hidden ?

    In my application i have lots of divs containing text. All divs have overflow set to hidden so that the user does not see the text if the container is not large enough to contain the writing. If the user wants to see the hidden text they are supposed to mouse over the "box". The box then expands and shows the text. Sounds simple enough, right? Well i am having problems and the solution i tried did not work. The problem is that when the user mouses over the box, the text does indeed appears but stays really narrow and comes out of the bottom box, the sameway it would if overflow was set to visible. below is the standard css applied to the div box: .newevent { overflow: hidden; z-index: 0; } I Tried to fix this by setting a hover trigger, when it is activated the box widens, i thought that this would then mean there would be more space to display the text, below is the hover effect: .newevent div:hover { width: 200px; padding: 50px; background-color:#D4D4D4; border: medium red dashed; overflow: visible; z-index: 1; } How do i go about "redrawing" the text when it is hovered over, so that the text can use the new widened area rather than behaving as it is still in a narrow box.

  • Changing iframe visibility on Mozilla not working

    I've got a simple iframe that I want hidden until an event from that iframe is fire via easyXDM. It's working fine on Chrome, but somehow not on Mozilla. The event is being fired on both browsers, but only shows the iframe on Chrome. The only way to show the iframe on Mozilla is to call the same code using an onclick event.     Sorry I could not find a similar answer on SO. I have the following markup (generated by jquery ui autocomplete but this is not the issue here) <ul style="z-index: 1; display: block; border: thin solid red; width: 200px;"> <li> <a> <div style="font-size: 0.85em;"> <span style="float: right; padding-left: 10px; color: gray;"> United Kingdom </span> <span style="">text text text text text</span> </div> </a> </li> </ul> As you can see in this fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/fVr8P/2/ the text wraps because the width is limited and the country span is "floating". What I would like would be for the width to enlarge to accommodate the full length, but if I put width: auto; it will expand to 100%. Background The ul is of course coming from jquery ui autocomplete. I am styling the results a bit using the autocomplete.html extension. Problem is that everything is working ok in firefox an chrome because the autocomplete is set to the correct width on creation. in IE this does not happen (width is too small) so the text wraps. I am hping to come to a simple css only solution, without fiddling around in jQuery.

I am successful in mouseover and mouseout but the image is actually taking the space around the text though i have visibility as hidden..     I am attempting to use jquery and CSS to animate the buttons of a navigation sidebar I am using to signify which button is selected when the mouse is hovered over each. Now that the .stop() has been applied, however, if the mouse is moved away from a button during its animation, the button will freeze and remain in its mid-animation state, unable to be fixed by being hovered over until the page is reloaded, rather than reverting to its original mouseleave state. From everything I've read, this should not be the case. Might anyone be able to tell why my animation queue becomes broken once the .stop() is applied?

  • Limiting number of text lines in a table cell

    I have a table cell where I need to limit the text to a max of two lines. I tried achieving this by placing an inner div with a limited height: div { border: 1px solid #EECCDD; width: 100px; height: 40px; overflow: hidden; } <div> <p>bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla</p> </div> <div> <p>bla bla bla bla</p> </div> However, in this case the cells which have only one line of text are not vertically aligned to the middle. I know there are ways to vertically align a text within a div, but most of the ones I found seemed a bit complicated and/or hacky (like this one), and felt like a bit of an overkill. Is there a different way to effectively limit the number of lines inside the cell, or a simple way to align the text in the way I did it?
