  • VB.NET FileSystemWatcher Multiple Change Events

    - by John
Hi. I have the following code: Imports System.IO Public Class Blah Public Sub New() InitializeComponent() Dim watcher As New FileSystemWatcher("C:\") watcher.EnableRaisingEvents = True AddHandler watcher.Changed, AddressOf watcher_Changed End Sub Private Sub watcher_Changed(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As FileSystemEventArgs) MsgBox(e.FullPath) End Sub End Class When I run it and save changes to a file on my C drive, the code works great, except it executes the watcher_Changed() method four times. Any idea why? The changeType is "4" every time. Thanks.

  • how to control textbox type to double in visual basic?

    - by fema
Hi, I'd like to make a textbox that accepts only numbers, but not integer, but rather double. I've read here about e.Handled = Not Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) and it works, but again, it can be used only for integer, since it declines decimal point. Another thing I've read here is If Not Double.TryParse(TextBox2.Text, value) Then .... and it would work fine, except that it allows only decimal comma instead of point. I don't know whether it's because of my location settings (Hungary, we use commas instead of points), but I don't have any other idea how to solve my problem, and the SQL server I send my data uses decimal point. Thanks in advance.

  • Stored Connection Strings per user

    - by pehaada
In the past I've used a Singleton Pattern to load the connection string when the application starts via the global.asa file. I have a project now where each user has a unique connection string to the database. I would like to load this connection string once. The issue is that the singleton pattern will not work for me since each user has there own connection string. Basically the connection string is created dynamically. I do not want to store it is session. If anyway has a clever way of doing this in .NET let me know ?

  • A better way of getting a data table with various column types into string array

    - by Vlad
This should be an easy one, looks like I got myself too confused. I get a table from a database, data ranges from varchar to int to Null values. Cheap and dirty way of converting this into a tab-delimited file that I already have is this (shrunken to preserve space, ugliness is kept on par with original): da.Fill(dt) ' da - DataAdapter ' ' dt - DataTable ' Dim lColumns As Long = dt.Columns.Count Dim arrColumns(dt.Columns.Count) As String Dim arrData(dt.Columns.Count) As Object Dim j As Long = 0 Dim arrData(dt.Columns.Count) As Object For i = 0 To dt.Rows.Count - 1 arrData = dt.Rows(i).ItemArray() For j = 0 To arrData.GetUpperBound(0) - 1 arrColumns(j) = arrData(j).ToString Next wrtOutput.WriteLine(String.Join(strFieldDelimiter, arrColumns)) Array.Clear(arrColumns, 0, arrColumns.GetLength(0)) Array.Clear(arrData, 0, arrData.GetLength(0)) Next Not only this is ugly and inefficient, it is also getting on my nerves. Besides, I want, if possible, to avoid the infamous double-loop through the table. I would really appreciate a clean and safe way of rewriting this piece. I like the approach that is used here - especially that is trying to solve the same problem that I have, but it crashes on me when I apply it to my case directly.

  • "Invalid Object Format Name" in Crystal Reports

    - by cmays90
When working with Crystal Report Field Objects and attempting to set "EnableSuppress" to False or alter the position or width of a field object is generating an "Invalid Object Format Name" error. The debugger shows all my code running without error until attempting to actually load the report. At that point, it will run the first couple without problem, then it fails when messing with a field object, and none of the rest will run. The code is shown below. Everything that generates an error is a FieldObject, but not all fieldObjects generate errors. In the code below, everything in Section2 is a TextObject and everything in Section3 is a FieldObject. If condition = True Then 'Lines marked as runs ok, only run when a line that generates an error is not present before it. Report.Section2.ReportObjects("Text7").Left = 7830 'Runs ok Report.Section3.ReportObjects("Field4").Left = 8085 'Runs ok Report.Section2.ReportObjects("Text13").ObjectFormat.EnableSuppress = False 'Runs ok Report.Section3.ReportObjects("Field28").ObjectFormat.EnableSuppress = False 'error Report.Section2.ReportObjects("Text9").Left = 10830 'Runs ok Report.Section3.ReportObjects("Field23").Left = 10830 'error Report.Section3.ReportObjects("Field23").Width = 615 'error Report.Section2.ReportObjects("Text10").Left = 11445 'Runs ok Report.Section3.ReportObjects("Field25").Left = 11445 'Runs ok End If

  • How can I tell when the Text of a System.Windows.Forms.GroupBox wraps to the next line?

    - by fre0n
I'm creating a GroupBox at runtime and setting its Text property. Usually, the text is only on one line, but sometimes it wraps. The problem is that the controls contained in the GroupBox cover up the GroupBox's text. What I'd like to do is determine if and when the text wraps. Specifically, I'd like to determine how much extra height the wrapped text takes up as compared to a single line. That way, I can reposition the GroupBox's controls and adjust its height. Initially, I thought I'd do this by calling the GroupBox's CreateGraphics() method, and using the Graphics to measure the string. Something like this: private void SetGroupBoxText(GroupBox grp, string text) { const int somePadding = 10; Graphics g = grp.CreateGraphics(); SizeF textSize = g.MeasureString(text, grp.Font); if (textSize.Width > (grp.Width - somePadding)) { // Adjust height, etc. } } The problem is that the size generated by g.MeasureString(text, grp.Font) doesn't seem to be accurate. I determined that it wasn't accurate by putting enough of a single character to cause a wrap, then measuring the resulting string. For example, it took 86 pipes (|) to until a wrap happened. When I measured that string, its width was ~253. And it took 16 capital W's to force a wrap - its string had a width of ~164. These were the two extremes that I tested. My GroupBox's width was 189. (a's took 29 and had a width of ~180, O's took 22 and had a width of ~189) Does anyone have any ideas? (hacks, WinAPI, etc. are welcome solutions)

  • How can I draw a hollow rectangle using CreatePen?

    - by LarsTech
Since using the DrawArc function in GDI+ isn't very accurate when drawing a small rounded rectangle, I am using RoundRect instead. Protected Overrides Sub OnPaint(ByVal e As PaintEventArgs) Dim hDC As IntPtr = e.Graphics.GetHdc Dim rc As New Rectangle(10, 10, 64, 24) Dim hPen As IntPtr = Win32.CreatePen(Win32.PenStyle.PS_SOLID, 0, _ ColorTranslator.ToWin32(Color.Green)) Dim hOldPen As IntPtr = Win32.SelectObject(hDC, hPen) Call Win32.RoundRect(hDC, rc.Left, rc.Top, rc.Right, rc.Bottom, 10, 10) Win32.SelectObject(hDC, hOldPen) Win32.DeleteObject(hPen) e.Graphics.ReleaseHdc(hDC) MyBase.OnPaint(e) End Sub This will draw a nice rounded rectangle, but it will also fill it with a white brush, erasing what I don't want to have erased. How can I draw this without erasing the inside of the rectangle?

  • how to combine changes tracked from several documents

    - by Jessica
I tried to search the solution in internet, but found nothing, is there anyone who can help me? For my application, there is one document (Microsoft word), and this document is reviewed by several people in the "Track changes" mode, so the input to my application is the original document and the reviewed documents with changes (like insert/delete/comments). By this link , I know how to extract all the changes from the reviewed documents. what i want is to combine all the changes from all the reviewed documents into ONE document, and make all the changes "accepted", so the output of my application is one modified Microsoft document with all the changes (delete/insert/comment) accepted. My problem is that I don't know how to combine the changes from several documents into one single document. Anyone has an idea how to do this? Thank you very much in advance.

  • How do I fix my Unit Test to have global access to everything?

    - by SLC
Usually when you add one (in Visual Basic), it pops up a message asking if you want to enable an option that lets the test access things like private methods etc. However, I am editing a solution that does not have this enabled. I'd like to enable it so my unit tests will work, but I can't find the setting. Can anyone tell me how to enable it after the project has been created?

  • Single Sign On with 3 applications

    - by John H.
I'm building three web applications in .NET that will all share a users database and login information. Lets pretend that application 1 is the "parent" application and applications "A" and "B" are the "child" applications. All users have to be logged into application 1 to have access to applications A and B. Authorization, Authentication, and MachineKey sections of all web configs are present and work correctly. I have the correct web.config settings in all applications to achieve Single Sign On except one problem remains: what do I put in the "loginUrl" attribute of the forms tag in Applications A and B. Assume that the url for the login to application 1 is "www.johnsapp.com/login.aspx" How can I get applications A and B to send the user back to application 1 for authentication using only settings in web.config?

  • Connect to Oracle 11g using VS2010.net Drivers/Cleints

    - by StealthRT
Hey all i am trying to redistribute my app that uses Oracle 11g: Imports Oracle.DataAccess.Client The problem i am having is that it will not run on a machine that doesnt seem to have the correct drivers that its looking for. When i install ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio on the test VM it works just fine but thats a 230+mb file to download and install! Not to mention that if the user already has Oracle 10/11g on their machine that it may mess up their current connections/etc by installing that setup file. Is there another setup package that i can install that only has the Oracle Data Provider for .NET 2.0 11.2.0.2.0 or whatever its needing from that ODAC 11.2 Release 3 file. So any help about what i need to go about fixing this problem would be great! :) Thanks, David

  • Add User to Database not working

    - by user1850189
I'm really new to ASP.net and I am currently trying to create a registration page on a site. I was successful in adding a user to the database but I decided to add another feature into the code to check what userID's were available. For example, if a user deleted their account their userID would become available for use again. I'm trying to find the min value and the max value and add or subtract 1 depending on whether it is min or max. I can run the code I have written for this with no errors but the user is not added to the database. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm missing from my code to do this? EDIT Code adds a user to database but it adds the new user at -1 instead. I don't seem to be able to see where the issue is. If (aDataReader2.Read() = False) Then aConnection1 = New OleDbConnection(aConnectionString) aConnection1.Open() aQuery = "Insert Into UserDetails " aQuery = aQuery & "Values ('" & userID & "','" & userFName & "','" & userLName & "','" & userEmail & "','" & userUsername & "','" & userPassword & "')" aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery, aConnection1) aCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() aConnection1.Close() ElseIf (min = 1) Then aConnection2 = New OleDbConnection(aConnectionString) aConnection2.Open() aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery3, aConnection2) aDataReader2 = aCommand.ExecuteReader() userID = max + 1 aQuery = "Insert Into UserDetails " aQuery = aQuery & "Values ('" & userID & "','" & userFName & "','" & userLName & "','" & userEmail & "','" & userUsername & "','" & userPassword & "')" aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery, aConnection2) aCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() aConnection2.Close() Else aConnection3 = New OleDbConnection(aConnectionString) aConnection3.Open() aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery2, aConnection3) aDataReader2 = aCommand.ExecuteReader userID = min - 1 aQuery = "Insert Into UserDetails " aQuery = aQuery & "Values ('" & userID & "','" & userFName & "','" & userLName & "','" & userEmail & "','" & userUsername & "','" & userPassword & "')" aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery, aConnection3) aCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() aConnection3.Close() lblResults.Text = "User Account successfully created" btnCreateUser.Enabled = False End If Here's the code I used to get the max and min values from the database. I'm getting a value of 0 for both of them - when min should be 1 and max should be 5 Dim minID As Integer Dim maxID As Integer aQuery2 = "Select Min(UserID) AS '" & [minID] & "' From UserDetails" aQuery3 = "Select Max(UserID) AS ' " & [maxID] & "' From UserDetails"

  • Data confusion - Selecting data in one DataGridView based on selection in another

    - by Logan Young
This probably isn't the best way to do what I want, but I can't think of anything else to try... NB: I'm using Visual Basic.NET My form has 2 DataGridView controls. One of these is bound to a DataSet, the other isn't visible - at least not until the user selects a uniqueidentifier cell in the 1st grid. When the user makes this selection, the 2nd grid will become visible and display the row from another with the same id as the one selected in the 1st grid. So, basically, I want to dynamically display data in one grid based on user selection in another grid. My code looks like this so far... Private Sub RulesGrid_CellClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles RulesGrid.CellClick Try FlagsGrid.Visible = True ''// MsgBox(RulesGrid.CurrentCell.Value.ToString()) Dim sql As String = "SELECT * FROM ctblMKA_Status_Flags " + _ "WHERE intStatusID = '" & RulesGrid.CurrentCell.Value & "'" DSFlags = GetDS(sql) DSFlags.DataSetName = "FlagsDataSet" FlagsGrid.DataSource = DSFlags ProgressBar.Visible = False Catch ex As Exception MsgBox(ex.ToString) End Try End Sub I feel like I'm missing something here... Any ideas anyone?

  • Large transactions causing "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired" error?

    - by Michael
My application requires a user to log in and allows them to edit a list of things. However, it seems that if the same user always logs in and out and edits the list, this user will run into a "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired." error. I've read comments about increasing the timeout period but I've also read a comment about it possibly caused by uncommitted transactions. And I do have one going in the application. I'll provide the code I'm working with and there is an IF statement in there that I was a little iffy about but it seemed like a reasonable thing to do. I'll just go over what's going on here, there is a list of objects to update or add into the database. New objects created in the application are given an ID of 0 while existing objects have their own ID's generated from the DB. If the user chooses to delete some objects, their IDs are stored in a separate list of Integers. Once the user is ready to save their changes, the two lists are passed into this method. By use of the IF statement, objects with ID of 0 are added (using the Add stored procedure) and those objects with non-zero IDs are updated (using the Update stored procedure). After all this, a FOR loop goes through all the integers in the "removal" list and uses the Delete stored procedure to remove them. A transaction is used for all this. Public Shared Sub UpdateSomethings(ByVal SomethingList As List(Of Something), ByVal RemovalList As List(Of Integer)) Using DBConnection As New SqlConnection(conn) DBConnection.Open() Dim MyTransaction As SqlTransaction MyTransaction = DBConnection.BeginTransaction() Try For Each SomethingItem As Something In SomethingList Using MyCommand As New SqlCommand() MyCommand.Connection = DBConnection If SomethingItem.ID > 0 Then MyCommand.CommandText = "UpdateSomething" Else MyCommand.CommandText = "AddSomething" End If MyCommand.Transaction = MyTransaction MyCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure With MyCommand.Parameters If MyCommand.CommandText = "UpdateSomething" Then .Add("@id", SqlDbType.Int).Value = SomethingItem.ID End If .Add("@stuff", SqlDbType.Varchar).Value = SomethingItem.Stuff End With MyCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using Next For Each ID As Integer In RemovalList Using MyCommand As New SqlCommand("DeleteSomething", DBConnection) MyCommand.Transaction = MyTransaction MyCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure With MyCommand.Parameters .Add("@id", SqlDbType.Int).Value = ID End With MyCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using Next MyTransaction.Commit() Catch ex As Exception MyTransaction.Rollback() 'Exception handling goes here End Try End Using End Sub There are three stored procedures used here as well as some looping so I can see how something can be holding everything up if the list is large enough. Other users can log in to the system at the same time just fine though. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 to debug and am using SQL Server 2000 for the DB.

I ask this because i'm assuming that if call a "MyConn.Close" it automatically close the associated datareader... or am i wrong ? Thanks
