• Stored Connection Strings per user

  In the past I've used a Singleton Pattern to load the connection string when the application starts via the global.asa file. I have a project now where each user has a unique connection string to the database. I would like to load this connection string once. The issue is that the singleton pattern will not work for me since each user has there own connection string. Basically the connection string is created dynamically. I do not want to store it is session. If anyway has a clever way of doing this in .NET let me know ?

• Typed DataSet connection - required to have one in the .xsd file?

  In the .xsd file for a typed DataSet in .NET, there's a <Connections> section that contains a list of any data connections I've used to set up the DataTables and TableAdapters. There are times when I'd prefer not to have those there. For instance, sometimes I prefer to pass in a connection string to a custom constructor and use that rather than look for one in settings, .config, etc. But it seems like if I remove the connection strings from that section (leaving it empty), or remove the section entirely, the DataSet code-generation tool freaks out. Whereas if I don't remove them, the DataSet gripes when I put it in a different project because it can't find the settings for those connection strings. Is there any way I can tell a typed DataSet not to worry about any connections? (Obviously I'll have to give it a connection if I change any TableAdapter SQL or stored procs, but that should be my problem.)

  I'm trying to create a function to parse out all values in a multidimensional Array with all but one dimension given. The details are not relevant, but for this function I need to return an one-dimensional Array containing values of the same type the original multidimensional Array has. To pass any Array with any dimension to my function, I declared the type of this parameter as Array. However, how would I create a new Array of that specific type (e.g. Integer)? Currently I have the following code: Function GetRow(ByVal arr As Array) As Array Dim result As (...) 'This should be Integer() if arr contains Integers, etc. Return result End Function How do I declare the type of result to make it having the same type of values as arr?   I'm building three web applications in .NET that will all share a users database and login information. Lets pretend that application 1 is the "parent" application and applications "A" and "B" are the "child" applications. All users have to be logged into application 1 to have access to applications A and B. Authorization, Authentication, and MachineKey sections of all web configs are present and work correctly. I have the correct web.config settings in all applications to achieve Single Sign On except one problem remains: what do I put in the "loginUrl" attribute of the forms tag in Applications A and B. Assume that the url for the login to application 1 is "www.johnsapp.com/login.aspx" How can I get applications A and B to send the user back to application 1 for authentication using only settings in web.config?

  Since using the DrawArc function in GDI+ isn't very accurate when drawing a small rounded rectangle, I am using RoundRect instead. • How can I tell when the Text of a System.Windows.Forms.GroupBox wraps to the next line?

  I'm creating a GroupBox at runtime and setting its Text property. Usually, the text is only on one line, but sometimes it wraps. The problem is that the controls contained in the GroupBox cover up the GroupBox's text. What I'd like to do is determine if and when the text wraps. Specifically, I'd like to determine how much extra height the wrapped text takes up as compared to a single line. That way, I can reposition the GroupBox's controls and adjust its height. Initially, I thought I'd do this by calling the GroupBox's CreateGraphics() method, and using the Graphics to measure the string. Something like this: private void SetGroupBoxText(GroupBox grp, string text) { const int somePadding = 10; Graphics g = grp.CreateGraphics(); SizeF textSize = g.MeasureString(text, grp.Font); if (textSize.Width > (grp.Width - somePadding)) { // Adjust height, etc. } } The problem is that the size generated by g.MeasureString(text, grp.Font) doesn't seem to be accurate. I determined that it wasn't accurate by putting enough of a single character to cause a wrap, then measuring the resulting string. For example, it took 86 pipes (|) to until a wrap happened. When I measured that string, its width was ~253. And it took 16 capital W's to force a wrap - its string had a width of ~164. These were the two extremes that I tested. My GroupBox's width was 189. (a's took 29 and had a width of ~180, O's took 22 and had a width of ~189) Does anyone have any ideas? (hacks, WinAPI, etc. are welcome solutions)

Note: treeView1.SelectedNode.EnsureVisible(); is not available in asp.net need another way.

• How do I fix my Unit Test to have global access to everything?

  Usually when you add one (in Visual Basic), it pops up a message asking if you want to enable an option that lets the test access things like private methods etc. However, I am editing a solution that does not have this enabled. I'd like to enable it so my unit tests will work, but I can't find the setting. Can anyone tell me how to enable it after the project has been created?

• Add User to Database not working

  I'm really new to ASP.net and I am currently trying to create a registration page on a site. I was successful in adding a user to the database but I decided to add another feature into the code to check what userID's were available. For example, if a user deleted their account their userID would become available for use again. I'm trying to find the min value and the max value and add or subtract 1 depending on whether it is min or max. I can run the code I have written for this with no errors but the user is not added to the database. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm missing from my code to do this? EDIT Code adds a user to database but it adds the new user at -1 instead. I don't seem to be able to see where the issue is. • Data confusion - Selecting data in one DataGridView based on selection in another

  This probably isn't the best way to do what I want, but I can't think of anything else to try... NB: I'm using Visual Basic.NET My form has 2 DataGridView controls. One of these is bound to a DataSet, the other isn't visible - at least not until the user selects a uniqueidentifier cell in the 1st grid. When the user makes this selection, the 2nd grid will become visible and display the row from another with the same id as the one selected in the 1st grid. So, basically, I want to dynamically display data in one grid based on user selection in another grid. My code looks like this so far... • Why is a DataViewManager not sorting?

  First off, a quick rundown of what the code is doing. I have two tables: Companies and Clients. There is a one to many relationship between Companies and Clients (one company can have many clients). In some processing logic, I have both tables loaded into a DataSet - each are DataTables. I have added a DataRelation to set the relationship, and it works when I use GetChildRows on a record from the Companies table. However, I need to sort the records returned. After googling around some it looks like the DataViewManager is the way to go, and I have examined several basic examples. However, I cannot get my rows sorted. Am I missing something, or am I not using this how it is supposed to be used? Example code: Dim ldvmManager As New DataViewManager(mdsData) ldvmManager.DataViewSettings("Companies").Sort = "comName ASC" ldvmManager.DataViewSettings("Clients").ApplyDefaultSort = False ldvmManager.DataViewSettings("Clients").Sort = "entLastName ASC, entFirstName ASC" For Each mdrCurrentCompany in ldvmManager.DataViewSettings("Companies").Table.Rows Dim ldrClients() as DataRow = mdrCurrentCompany.GetChildRows("CompaniesClients") Next No matter what I do, the first Client returned has a last name that starts with a 'B' and the second has one that starts with a 'A'. From there, the order is all mixed up. If I use my entire data instead of the subset I was using to test with, the first Client returned has a last name that starts with 'J'. It seems like it is still using whatever default sort was being used before I tried to use the DataViewManager. Any ideas?

I like the approach that is used here - especially that is trying to solve the same problem that I have, but it crashes on me when I apply it to my case directly.

• Connect to Oracle 11g using VS2010.net Drivers/Cleints

  Hey all i am trying to redistribute my app that uses Oracle 11g: Imports Oracle.DataAccess.Client The problem i am having is that it will not run on a machine that doesnt seem to have the correct drivers that its looking for. When i install ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio on the test VM it works just fine but thats a 230+mb file to download and install! Not to mention that if the user already has Oracle 10/11g on their machine that it may mess up their current connections/etc by installing that setup file. Is there another setup package that i can install that only has the Oracle Data Provider for .NET 2.0 11.2.0.2.0 or whatever its needing from that ODAC 11.2 Release 3 file. So any help about what i need to go about fixing this problem would be great! :) Thanks, David

One process involves uploading a file and performing a lengthy search process on its contents, whilst another process involves SQL queries and is an interactive process with the user. I wish to use threads to allow one process to run and the menu to offer the option for the second process to run. However you cannot run the first process twice. I have created threads and corrected some compilation errors but the threading options are not working correctly. Any help appreciated. main... When you click the Update Cart button it just updates the cart page it's on, but when you click the Shop More button it links to Shop.aspx a different page, and the Checkout links to another page as well. I can't figure out how it is linking just from that code, anybody have any insights?
