  • Can't boot up computer windows 8 installation

    I wanted to install Windows 8 with a volume partition and when the Windows 8 was installing it rebooted and it gave me an error: The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified. File :windows \system 32\winload.exe error code 0xc0000428. I have tried bootec commands and they didn't seem to fix it. Also my Windows 7 got deleted and I only have to boot with the Windows 8 error, so I can't do anything not even boot to safe mode. I have tried to install Windows 8 from disk later on and it won't let me because it keeps rebooting and starting the installation again, so I took off the disk before it rebooted and it takes me to that error again. Remember that's my only boot option so I'm stuck in the installation disk.

The latter choice is a bit more expensive but not by much so I don't care about that. As for what I intend to use my machine for, just regular web surfing, light gaming, web development related work, etc. But that doesn't really matter, of these two I just want to know which is the better more powerful system and which you would buy if you were in my position.

  • My computer loses network connectivity every 30 minutes

    My LAN connected PC loses network connectivity every 30 minutes. It has a static IP address and I've checked to make sure there aren't any IP conflicts on my network. If I'm streaming from that PC to my Xbox the stream will be interrupted and it normally takes about a minute to come back online. The same happens if I'm actually on the PC and just browsing the web. I'm looking for suggestions on how to track down this issue. I've tried checking the available logs on my router to see if there is an issue with DCHP but have been unsuccessful in finding any evidence. Any suggestions would be helpful. I can't think of any recent changes to my network, PC or software installations that may have caused this. I am a software developer and have intermediate networking knowledge. EDIT: During one outage I told windows to troubleshoot the network problem and it said that it could automatically fix the problem by changing DCHP info. It basically said my network adapter from static to automatically obtain. This did fix the issue quicker than just waiting it out, but the outage occurred again 30 minutes later even when leaving those settings.

  • Computer speakers receive radio station signal

    I have a set of Logitech 5.1 speakers where each speaker and the source plug into the subwoofer. I'm using a Griffin Firewave with output from my MacBook Pro, and output from my custom-built desktop with a switch in the middle (built it myself out of an old Belkin A/B parallel switch). Recently, I've noticed that I can hear a local Punjabi radio station being picked up by my speakers, and the volume of this interference increases as I increase the volume of the speakers. I'm fairly sure that this radio station is at the low-end of the FM spectrum, below 90MHz (or it may be at the high end, above 105MHz, my memory isn't infallible). It gets quite annoying as I can't put my audio very loud without the interference. I've tried to put a ferrite core on the input cable just before the 3.5mm jacks plug into the subwoofer. I don't know if putting the same core around all three of the cables (green, black, orange) would negate the effects, but I'm assuming not. There has been no change. Is there any reason why this would be happening? I'm assuming the interference is coming somewhere between the FireWave and the subwoofer, because the noise gets amplified with volume increases. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd be grateful!

    I'm building a computer mainly for gaming and developing games. It's going to be a three screen system with two GeForce GTX 460's and a quad-core i7. The newegg wattage calculator says I need around 900W. The case I intend to get is this one. Full specs if you need 'em are at the end of this post. I have no intentions to overclock the system at the moment, but this may change in the future. I've done a lot of research on the subject, and the answers I've found indicate that it takes a heck of a lot of power to require liquid cooling, and most non-overclocked systems don't need it. But I haven't seen a question about a system with two GPU's, so I ask you the following two questions: Assuming that the system is used for gaming for very extended periods of time (say 4-6 hours at a time, nonstop) with all three screens running at full 1080p, would the fans installed in the system suffice? Or would I need more fans and/or liquid cooling? If the system is used under the same circumstances as above, and is overclocked to a reasonable level, would the fans installed in the system suffice?   • Why does my computer crash randomly?

    The other day I went out to my van to get my Tower and when I opened the trunk it fell out. I brought it into the house and opened it, and everything looked ok. When I started it up, about 1-3 minutes afterwards it would crash. It did this over and over until I reseated the cooler. Everything seemed normal again, until after about 10 minutes of gameplay (any game), it would crash. I reseated my GPU + reinstalled the drivers, however I still get the same error. A while back, I'd check my 'Windows Rating' periodically, and all of them were in the '6.0-6.9' range except for my hard disk usage (always been like that [not relative]). Today I went in and looked, and my Processor and Memory was rated 5.4. I reseated my cpu and my memory, refreshed the windows rating, and then my processor and memory went from 5.4, to 5.1. A few minutes ago I reseated them once again, and now it's back to 5.4. Note: Not sure if this is relevant to the issue, but I updated my bios earlier today I honestly have no idea what the issue is, but I'm getting aggravated at the problem.     My Windows 7 PC is set to automatically enter standby ("sleep mode") after 30 minutes. For some reason it stopped working a few days ago (it keeps on running). Is there some systematic way to determine what is preventing the system from automatically entering sleep mode after the designated idle time? Manually sending the machine to sleep works fine. The monitor also enters power save mode automatically, so the "idling detection" of Windows seems to work fine.

    Since I built my system about 4 weeks ago I'v been getting random freezes, Sometimes it can happen directly after startup and sometimes it wont freeze up for 3-4 days of 24/7 running. It seems to be happening under all stress loads but mainly when the CPU is under 10% load. It doesn't give me a BSOD or anything, it simply just freezes and repeats the last sound before the freeze until I shut it down by the power button. I'v re-seated everything in the system except the CPU, Cleaned the RAM sockets and gold fittings. None of the components have been clocked above their factory settings as of yet, don't want to overclock them until I sort out these freezes. Temps are all well under the rated max temps, the highest the temps have been are below CPU: Low load: 16-21°C Full Load (100%) 40-43°C *(From HWMonitor by CPUID) GPU 1: Low Load: 25-30°C Full Load (100%): 45-50°C GPU 2: Low Load: 23-27°C Full Load (100%): 45-50°C *(GPU Temps from Catalyst Control Center) General Case temps Rear: 18-20°C Mid: 20-21°C Front (HDD/SSD Bays): 14-19°C (Case temps may be a little off as it's from the Kaze master pro fan controller) I have Un-installed EVERY driver for Motherboard, GPU & Soundcard and Re-installed twice. Windows is all up to date.   • Can't access internet using a domain joined computer outside the domain environment

    We had an unused box at work so took it home. It had been joined to the domain and hasn't been unjoined. When I try to use it at home (logging in with a local admin account) I can't seem to access internet pages. It gets correct IP and gateway for the local network and correct DNS servers for the home ADSL connection. I can happily ping the home router (which doesn't have any tricky firewall settings). Can't seem to ping outside, get any DNS to resolve, or (obviously) get any web pages. Is there some problem here with this having been joined to the domain?

    I have a motherboard I salvaged from a pre-assembled computer. Except now I'm trying to use it in my own custom build. The problem is, this motherboard doesn't have any documentation because it was never meant to be used by consumers (as far as I know). I need to plug in my case's power/reset/hdd-light plugs into the motherboard. I usually check the documentation of the board to see which leads go to what connector, but I have no documentation for the board. So, as I see it, I have two options: I find the documentation (I've emailed gateway customer service, but I'm unsure of how successful I'll be with that). I simply test the leads one after the other (can this cause damage if plugged into the wrong leads?) However, there might even be a standard for which leads do what action (I'm not sure about this).   • Windows 7 login screen show only last user and "Other User" icons after profile problem.

    I recently had a profile problem with my Windows 7 PC. My original profile in the registry had ".bak" appended to it and a new profile was created. I was unable to login with the new profile. I fixed this immediate problem by logging on in safe mode. This enabled me to restore my original profile. However, since that moment the login screen now operates differently. Instead of showing icons for all the users with accounts on the PC, it now only shows two icons. The first icon is the last user who logged on and the second icon always shows "Other User". I have tried several different solutions recommended by other people with similar problems, but none of them have fixed the problem. I think the person who started this thread has the same problem, but none of the proposed solutions helped him either. Any help much appreciated.

    While logged into our HPC cluster I used w to check out who else was logged in. I happened to notice that it looks like there's another user logged in from my (personal) computer; 19:04:47 up 40 days, 6:39, 44 users, load average: 0.10, 0.14, 0.18 USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT ME pts/4 zerg.neuron12. 18:55 0.00s 0.09s 0.04s w SOMEONE_ELSE pts/35 zerg.neuron12. Sat14 2:27m 0.08s 0.08s -bash Is this something I should be worried out - I tried to kill the other session but had a permission denied message. Is it possible we just both have the same hardware name? I'd have thought that if this were the case the server would give one of us a different name (e.g. zerg1) when we logged in to prevent confusion. This is not an area I have any experience with, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • Computer can't boot

    I have a 1 year old PC and the last weeks, when I press the ON button the PC doesn't power on ( Like I didn't press the ON button ). I have to plug and unplug a few times the power cord in order to make it work. At the start this happened once in 10 boots. Now it happens much more frequently to the point that when I press the power on button it never even opens if I don't do the cord switch thingy. Very rarely also, the PC shut downs for no reason and no warning, even when idle. The important fact to note here is, the green light on the motherboard is always on, even when the PC doesn't power on. What should I do? Is it a Power Supply failure or a motherboard? My power supply is a high end corsair model, AX850 and my motherboard a high end ASUS.
