  • Using Forms authentication with remote auth system?

    I am working on a website that uses a remote websites database to check for authentication (they are both share some database tables, but are separate website...) Right now I check the username and password against the remote websites account / member table, if there is a match I create a session. Questions: Is this secure? On authenticated pages I just check if a session of a specific type exists.Is it possible for someone to create an empty session or something that could bypass this? Is it possible to use Forms authentication with this setup? Right now if a user is authenticated I just get an object back with the username, email and id.

    I want to send data to server by enclosing it in a form. However, in asp.net I can't use more than one form with runat=server attribute. Then what is the use of using multiple forms on asp.net page. I can't access the data on the server? Like facebook enclose each post feedback data in a form and then submits this to server. How to do this in asp.net. I have to send data to server when some action occurs on a post but will have to store hiddenfield and read it with javascript is it not seems messy?

  • Forms Authentication Across Applications Stopped Working

    Hi, I have a .net 1.1 ASP application (domain.com) which has a .net 2 virtual directory (domain.com/v2) beneath it, both applications run within their own app pool on the same machine running IIS 6. The web.config files for both apps are setup for Forms Authentication as described here - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/eb0zx8fc(v=VS.80).aspx. Users would be directed to the domain.com/v2/login.aspx page which would authenticate for both applications, this configuration has been working fine for the last few years until installing one of the recent Windows 2003 security updates today. Now after authenticating under /v2 users keep getting redirected back to domain.com/v2/Login.aspx as domain.com doesnt see them as authenticated anymore. Any ideas as to which security update would have caused this and if its possible to rollback? I've looked at a few suggestions on this (e.g. Cross app on subdomain form authentication not working) and other sites but no luck so far Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Can't reach custom C# forms application remotely.

    Hello, I'm working in Windows Server 2008. I have a very basic C# forms application (not a service) that is listening on a port, say 56112. When using telnet I can connect from the localhost and send and receive data. For some reason I cannot remotely connect to the application. I know I have a connection because I can telnet to 23 on the remotely fine. I've opened this port on the firewall, created rules in/out in advanced firewall, disabled the firewall completely, and more. Any suggestions would be great!     Pre .net I was using MFC, ON_UPDATE_COMMAND_UI, and the CCmdUI class to update the state of my windows UI. From the older MFC/Win32 reference: Typically, menu items and toolbar buttons have more than one state. For example, a menu item is grayed (dimmed) if it is unavailable in the present context. Menu items can also be checked or unchecked. A toolbar button can also be disabled if unavailable, or it can be checked. Who updates the state of these items as program conditions change? Logically, if a menu item generates a command that is handled by, say, a document, it makes sense to have the document update the menu item. The document probably contains the information on which the update is based. If a command has multiple user-interface objects (perhaps a menu item and a toolbar button), both are routed to the same handler function. This encapsulates your user-interface update code for all of the equivalent user-interface objects in a single place. The framework provides a convenient interface for automatically updating user-interface objects. You can choose to do the updating in some other way, but the interface provided is efficient and easy to use. What is the guidance for .net Windows Forms? I am using an Application.Idle handler in the main form but am not sure this is the best way to do this. About the time I put all my UI updates in the Idle event handler my app started to show some performance problems, and I don't have the metrics to track this down yet. Not sure if it's related.

  • C# Sharp Windows Application prevents Windows from shutting down / logging off

    I have written a C# Windows Forms application, not a service (it is only used when the user is logged in and has a graphical user interface) that has a background thread running in an infinite loop. When I try shutting down Windows (7) however, it tells me the program is preventing it from shutting down or logging off and asks me whether I want to force a shutdown. Now, is there any possibility for my program to become aware (get a handler) of Windows trying to quit it or to log off? So, what I need is to make the application realize when Windows tries to quit.   • Restoring Mac-bootcamp-windows-partition image to Windows machine

    Hi, I'm running Windows XP sp3 on my mac using bootcamp. Objective: I'd like to move this partition to a windows machine. This is what I tried: 1. create image using winclone 2. restore drive to disk partition on windows machine using paragon 3. reboot from new partition Results: it attempts to boot in XP (windows flag and progress bar load screen) but then gives me the old BSOD. safe mode just hangs while loading. (I then uninstalled KB977165 on a hunch, but that did nothing to help the issue.) Any ideas, advice, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello, currently I have dual boot with 2 windows 7. (dont ask why, long story, I need them for each with different settings involving Audio Recording) I am very keen to install the new Ubuntu and get into a new OS, out of interest but I don't want to mess with my current 2 windows installations? If I install Ubuntu, will this simply add to my list of OS boot options when you set it, like I did when I install my 2nd Windows 7 Any comments or help would be great? Thanks Bill

  • My C# program running as Windows Service is blocking Windows XP from hibernation

    I have Windows Service written in C#. It starts two threads, one is pooling a Web Service, second is waiting on a Monitor object for a new job to arrive. Besides that, the main thread acts as a WCF service host using NetNamedPipeBinding. It lets the client application to register a callback and then sends notifications back. The problem I have is that when this Windows Service is running, I cannot hibernate or Standby my computer which is running on Windows XP, SP3. When I set Windows to hibernate or standby, nothing happens. Then, at the moment when I go to Service Manager and stop the service, the system hibernation starts immediately. The service class extending the ServiceBase has properties like CanHandlePowerEvent, CanPauseAndContinue, etc. set to true... That didn't make any difference. The question is: what can be blocking the Hibernation/Standby from proceeding? What should I take care about to avoid it?

    I have a website using forms authentication. Everything runs sweet their. I've got a Silverlight app that uses Duplex messaging to talk to a WCF service. I'd like to be able to authenticate users in my service. I realize that by doing this <serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true" /> that my service would then have access to the HttpContext.Current context and I could easily authenticate a user. But herein lies the problem. aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true" combined with Duplex messaging results in very, very, very slow communication between silverlight and the website (10 seconds or more). Unless I have a configuration wrong, I'm going to assume that this is a bug in WCF / Silverlight. So basically I'm looking for a workaround. One idea I wanted to try was to read the ASPSESSID cookie from the browser and send that value over the wire. But I don't know what to do with the cookie on the service side. Is there some way to authenticate a user by sending their cookie data over duplex messaging?

    Guys, I was wondering if it was possible to create new parent, children in a has many relationship, using rails nested forms. Rails documentation clearly says that this works in a one to one relationship. Not sure if its the same in has many relationship. For example: If params = { :employee => { :name => "Tester", :account_attributes => {:login => 'tester'} } } works as one to one relationship. So Employee.new(params) works fine. New employee, account are created. Supposing I had params = { :employee => { :name => "Tester", :account_attributes => { "0" => {:login => 'tester'}, "1" => {:login => 'tester2'} } } } Employee.new(params) doesnt work. It fails on child validations saying parent cant be blank. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Karen

    Hi, In my model I have a manytomany field mentors = models.ManyToManyField(MentorArea, verbose_name='Areas', blank=True) In my form I want to render this as: drop down box with list of all MentorArea objects which has not been associated with the object. Next to that an add button which will call a javascript function which will add it to the object. Then under that a ul list which has each selected MentorArea object with a x next to it which again calls a javascript function which will remove the MentorArea from the object. I know that to change how an field element is rendered you create a custom widget and override the render function and I have done that to create the add button. class AreaWidget(widgets.Select): def render(self, name, value, attrs=None, choices=()): jquery = u''' <input class="button def" type="button" value="Add" id="Add Area" />''' output = super(AreaWidget, self).render(name, value, attrs, choices) return output + mark_safe(jquery) However I don't know how to list the currently selected ones underneath as a list. Can anyone help me? Also what is the best way to filter down the list so that it only shows MentorArea objects which have not been added? I currently have the field as mentors = forms.ModelMultipleChoiceField(queryset=MentorArea.objects.all(), widget = AreaWidget, required=False) but this shows all mentors no matter if they have been added or not.     I'm trying to get a nested model forms view working. As far as I can tell I'm doing everything right, but it still does not work. I'm on Rails 3 beta 3. My models are as expected: class Recipe < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :ingredients, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :ingredients attr_accessible :name end class Ingredient < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name, :sort_order, :amount belongs_to :recipe end I can use Recipe.ingredients_attributes= as expected: recipe = Recipe.new recipe.ingredients_attributes = [ {:name=>"flour", :amount=>"1 cup"}, {:name=>"sugar", :amount=>"2 cups"}] recipe.ingredients.size # -> 2; ingredients contains expected instances However, I cannot create new object graphs using a hash of parameters as shown in the documentation: params = { :name => "test", :ingredients_attributes => [ {:name=>"flour", :amount=>"1 cup"}, {:name=>"sugar", :amount=>"2 cups"}] } recipe = Recipe.new(params) recipe.name # -> "test" recipe.ingredients # -> []; no ingredient instances in the collection Is there something I'm doing wrong here? Or is there a problem in the Rails 3 beta?

  • Forms/AD Authentication with Sharepoint

    All, I'm configuring Sharepoint to use forms authentication with LDAP/Active Directory. I'm new to Sharepoint, so if this is obvious, please point me in the right direction. Whenever I attempt to log in with a bad account or password, I get the very friendly (and correct) error message, The server could not sign you in. Make sure your user name and password are correct, and then try again. ... which implies that Sharepoint is able to communicate with AD. If I log in with a valid account, I get a page that says: (I added the grey bar to cover up the login name) Any suggestions? The account I'm logging in with is an administrator and has been granted full control in central administration. Also, interesting note: If I click the "sign in as a different user" link, and attempt to sign in using with the same credentials I just used, the site just redirects back to the login page, with no error or status message. If I then manually enter the site url, it again shows the "Error: Access Denied" page. Argh.

  • Problem with multiple forms on one page

    I have two forms on a web page. The first is not an actual form since this is a .NET based site. So instead I have the standard input fields, along with asp:Button PostBackURL="http:/www...". One of the fields is "email". That works fine. Then I have an XSLT file with another form, and am using Javascript (via this.form.action, .method, etc) to post that form. Besides that it has the same fields as the form above. The problem is that when someone submits the second form, the script at the PostBackURL returns an error because the "email" field appears empty. So it seems as though the form is submitting the "email" field form the top form instead of the current one. I thought maybe the wrong form is being submitted, but if I remove the "email" field from the top form, and then submit the bottom one, it works fine. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

    Hi, We're having trouble getting Forms Authentication to work with a virtual directory in IIS. We have a main site, and then a microsite setup within a virtual directory. This mircosite has its own admin system within an "Admin" folder, which has authentication on it but currently it is not kicking in and the admin section is browsable by anyone. The web.config with the admin folder has the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <appSettings/> <connectionStrings/> <system.web> <authorization> <deny users="?"/> </authorization> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="~/Admin/Error.aspx"/> </system.web> </configuration> Could anyone give me any clues as to why this might not be working?   • Really annoying bug with Topmost property in Windows Forms

    Hi, I have this Windows Forms application where it sits in the notification area. Clicking on the icon brings it up front, clicking it again (or clicking on the app X icon) sends it back. This is the type of app that having the window always on top is important when it's displayed by clicking the icon, but it's optional. Right-clicking the icon brings up a context menu where one can select to enable the "always on top" option or not. When the application first starts up, the app settings are read from an XML file and I'm 99% that this is working as it should, the Topmost properly is properly read (and written). After some time (minutes, hours, days, whatever, I normally hibernate and rarely shutdown) the Topmost stops working. I don't change the option, I don't think anything is changing the option but I click the notification area icon and app is not brought up front. It shows up (it displays on Alt+Tab) but it's on the background, it's not topmost as it should. I bring up the context menu, disable the option (cause it's enabled) and enable it back and it starts to work after that. The app is now topmost. However, it can lose this ability anytime after while. I can't understand why this happens and how this happens. Does anyone have any idea why? If not, any idea how could I try to debug such behavior?
