  • Create a playlist in iTunes based on a hard drive folder

    I'd like to be able to base playlists in iTunes on a folder on my hard drive. For example, say I have this directory structure: C:\MP3s\Doctor Who Music C:\MP3s\Star Wars Music Importing all those MP3s into iTunes is really simple - at the bare bones version you can just drag the MP3 folder into the iTunes window and it does the rest. But, having done that, what I'd like to be able to do is point iTunes at each of those directories and have it turn them into their own playlists, so I end up with a Doctor Who Music and a Star Wars Music playlist based on the MP3s locations on the hard drive. Does iTunes have a way to do this, or is there a way to trick it into this with some other program? (I'm on Windows, but I'm sure Mac users would also appreciate answers to this as well.)

  • Thunderbird 3.0 - how to prevent new message indicator from clearing?

    I just installed Thunderbird 3.0 and there are a few things driving me batty. When new email is delivered it has a faint star to the left of the subject (this is different than the new star column thing). In the old days (i.e. last week) the new message indicator wouldn't go away until I read the message or left the folder and returned. Now, as soon as I do anything with any email message, all new message indicators are cleared. How can I go back to the old behavior? Thanks!

  • Unity3D: How to make the camera focus a moving game object with ITween?

    I'm trying to write a solar system with Unity3D. Planets are sphere game objects rotating around another sphere game object representing the star. What i want to achieve is let the user click on a planet and then zoom the camera on this planet and then make the camera follow and keep it centered on the screen while it keep moving around the star. I decided to use iTween library and so far i was able to create the zoom effect using iTween.MoveUpdate. My problem is that the focused planet does not say properly centered as it moves.   • Winamp question: I want to search through my songs by which playlists they're sorted into

    I'm trying to think of a way to do this. I sort my songs into a variety of playlists corresponding to different 'moods' I might have, but some songs fit for more than one kind of mood (e.g. a techno song might be 'stylish' and 'surreal', or something to that effect). I also give them different star ratings for a general sort of opinion about them. I want to be able to filter my media library by moods I want or don't want, as well as by star rating. Anyone have a good way to do something like this? Alternatively, is there a way to 'tag' my songs by mood and then search up by those tags? because then I could just dump the queried results into playlists as needed. Thanks in advance.

  • Sharing My Thoughts on Space Flight

    This went out in the DBA newsletter from Red Gate, but I enjoyed writing it so much, I thought I'd share it to a wider audience: I grew up watching the US space program. I watched men walk on the moon for the first time in 1969, when I was only six years old. From that moment on, I dreamed of going into space. I studied aeronautics and tried to get into the Air Force Academy, all in preparation for my long career as an astronaut. Clearly, that didn't quite work out for me. But it sure could for you. At Red Gate, we're running a new contest: DBA in Space. The prize is a sub-orbital flight. When I first got word of this contest, my immediate response was, "And you need me to go right away and do a test flight? Excellent!" No, no test flight needed, plus I was pretty low on the list of volunteers. "That's OK, I'll just enter." Then I was told that, as a Red Gate employee, I couldn't win. My next response was, "I quit".eventually, I was talked down off the ledge, and agreed to help make this special for some other DBA. Many (most?) of us are science fiction fans, either the soft science of Star Trek and Star Wars, or the hard science of Niven and Pournelle, or Allen Steele. We watched the Shuttles go up and land. We've been dreaming of our own trips into orbit and our vacation-home on the Moon for a long, long time.   • Ideas to tackle unwanted bad press/review on Google's SERP?

    After Googling our company name to our horror we've found someone on Yelp.co.uk has reviewed our company. On the SERP your eye is immediately drawn to the 2 star review some complete stranger has written, which to be honest is pure slander! The most infuriating thing is the person who reviewed our company has never even been a client/customer. It's a bit like me reviewing a restaurant having never eaten or even been in there! We've sent her a private message on Yelp to remove the review and also sent a complaint to Yelp themselves but have yet to get a reply. We've resisted going mad at the reviewer and also requested that she re-review us having just relaunched our new website (it still riles us that she's not even a client though!). We've had genuine customers/clients review us on Yelp yet this 2 star review remains on Google's SERP. Roughly how long would it take to for our new reviews to over take this review? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can push the review off the 1st page of Google's SERP or any creative ways in which we can tackle this issue?

  • Windows media player rating stars disabled/greyed out

    I'm unable to rate any of my songs using WMP. I've been rating songs on WMP for some time. But suddenly, I can't rate/ change my ratings. I cant do it using the normal 5 star rating control at top of playlist Or using Right click song - Rate - 5 star But I'm able to rate using Windows Explorer "bottom properties pane" that comes on clicking on a file I'm unable to rate using WMP. The ratings don't even change color (gold/grey) on mouse hover. Please give me a solution without losing my existing rating

  • Meet the Spec Leads & Active JSRs

    For your Monday reading pleasure, the JCP has published Spec Lead Profiles of In Progress/Active JSRs--there are 35 of these Spec Leads!  Find out more about these dedicated community leaders.  In preparing these profiles, the PMO also asked Specification Leads to tell about their experiences  as Spec Leads.  There were many themes that emerged around transparency, openness, agility and participation.  This led to a related article for those interested in learning about the experience of participating in the development of a Java Specification through the JCP program, see: "Active Specification Leads Offer Best Practices and Tips for Success". In Progress/Active JSRs were also reported on in the PMO Presentation during the last JCP EC Face-to-Face meeting in September 2012.   Now is a good time to start thinking about nominations for Star Spec Leads.  Nominations for 2012 are now open.  Anyone can submit a nomination for Star Spec Lead; however, we ask that you nominate an active JSR Spec Lead, operating a JSR under JCP program version 2.8 (introduced October 2011) or above.  Nominations close 31 December 2012.

  • LibreOffice UNO Java API: how to open a document, execute a macro and close it?

    I'm working on LibreOffice server-side: on the server I run soffice --accept=... Then I use Java LibreOffice client API's to apply a macro on a document (calc or writer). The java execution does not give any error, but I do not get the job done (macro code is executed, but it's effects are not in the output file). More, after macro script is invoked, the Basic debugger window appears, apparently stopped on the first line of my macro; F5 does not restart it...   • using an alternative string quotation syntax in python

    Just wondering... I find using escape characters too distracting. I'd rather do something like this: print ^'Let's begin and end with sets of unlikely 2 chars and bingo!'^ Let's begin and end with sets of unlikely 2 chars and bingo! Note the ' inside the string, and how this syntax would have no issue with it, or whatever else inside for basically all cases. Too bad markdown can't properly colorize it (yet), so I decided to <pre> it. Sure, the ^ could be any other char, I'm not sure what would look/work better. That sounds good enough to me, tho. Probably some other language already have a similar solution. And, just maybe, Python already have such a feature and I overlooked it. I hope this is the case. But if it isn't, would it be too hard to, somehow, change Python's interpreter and be able to select an arbitrary (or even standardized) syntax for notating the strings? I realize there are many ways to change statements and the whole syntax in general by using pre-compilators, but this is far more specific. And going any of those routes is what I call "too hard". I'm not really needing to do this so, again, I'm just wondering.

    How do I make a WrapPanel with some items having a Height of *? A deceptively simple question that I have been trying to solve. I want a control (or some XAML layout magickry) that behaves similar to a Grid that has some rows with a Height of *, but supports wrapping of columns. Hell; call it a WrapGrid. :) Here's a mockup to visualize this. How can this be done? I will accept any solution whether it's through xaml or has some code-behind (though I would prefer pure XAML if possible since xaml code behind is tougher to implement in IronPython).
