  I am working one Eclipse RCP project where I have got one situation that I wanted to set classpath at runtime. So initially, I can set the classpath from project\lib\sample.jar file in order to avoid the compilation error. But once the Eclipse RCP application started, and click one update button, a new sample.jar file would be generated at workspace. Now I wanted to update the classpath for newly generated sample.jar from workspace. Which is the best option for setting such a runtime classpath ?

• Eclipse 3.5 switching tab is very slow

  I am using eclipse 3.5 (cocoa build) on Macos 10.5 with Java 1.5.0.19. I just have 3 java files opened 1 files ~ 2000 lines the other 2 are ~ 700 lines. But when I switch from 1 file tab to another, eclipse takes a long time (~ 20 seconds) to switch to another tab. Everything seems to work up until the point of loading the ADT in Eclipse. • Spring MVC Project's .war file not able to deploy using JRE in jetty server

I generated a war file(SpringsMVC.war) and placed it in /webapps folder of Jetty server. • Publish failed using Ant publisher (Eclipse/datanucleus).

  Dear All, I am being driven mad the following (apparently hard) error from eclipse. Publish failed using Ant publisher Resource is out of sync with the file system: '/MyServlet/build/classes/com/inver/hotzones/database/BaseNetworkData.class'. I have seen comments on similar errors where refreshing eclipses view of the project helps but it is not helping me. Have tried cleaning the project, removing it from the webserver, deleting war files but cant seem to clear it. I have reset my TMPDIR variable so that it uses a directory on the same filesystem as that appeared to be another possible cause. The error occurs on classes which have been enhanced by datanuculeus. I have auto-enhance on the project. The other references to this problem indicate that it is due to Eclipses view of the project being out of step with the filesystem, and I am guessing that this has something to do with thedata nucleus enhancement. • Eclipse CDT printing selected C code snippets/functions

  Is there a quick and dirty way to print(to dead trees) selected code (C in this case) snippets? In particular, I wanted to print about 200 lines worth of code, but print dialog only offers printing of particular pages or all pages, but not selected text! Of course, one can copy and paste into another editor, but that seems rather harsh. Also, one can output the whole shebang to .pdf but that again seems a way of doing things wrong.   Hi.. I just installed eclipse-cdt 3.2.2 on Linux (Mint). The content assist feature which pops up when you do a "." or "-" on a struct or struct pointer, is extremely slow and freezes the entire IDE for around 10-20 seconds. This I feel, is because it searches through the entire include directory /usr/include that comes by default for any C project that you create. How can this issue be solved? Thanks..

• Eclipse JUnit Plugin Test very slow to re-execute Test Suite on Windows

  I'm having an odd, and stressing, problem with running a large JUnit Plugin test suite in Eclipse. When I try to re-run a JUnit plugin suite that has just been executed, Eclipse hangs for quite some time before it eventually wakes up and launches. It can take up to 5 minutes sometimes, and increases with the size of the suite. Visually, it appears as a GC cleanup, except that I have plenty of GC space available (400 MB freely allocated). The size of the workspace that is has to delete is well under 1 GB, and there are not too many files - definitely less than 20,000. While I was waiting for a new run to start, I decided to manually kill explorer.exe to see if it had any effect. Surprisingly, Eclipse instantly fell out of its freeze and ran as normal. This makes me think that Windows is somehow interfering with the deletion of these workspace files. They're not being put into the Recycle Bin though. The workspace is in C: which I think is out of the range of any workspace/domain stuff. Any ideas?

• Suppress Eclipse compiler errors in in a plug-in

  Hi, I'm currently working on a plug-in for Eclipse that translates some custom Java code (which doesn't necessarily run/compile), to runnable Java code. In particular, the plug-in allows code to be written using classes created or imported during the translation. In general, the pre-translation code runs/compiles fine provided the writer uses import statements at the top of their class files. However, it would be convenient for my users if it was not necessary to import these classes. At the moment, the lack of import statements results in (obvious) compiler errors. Would it be possible to empower my plug-in to either a) suppress/ignore these errors, or b) have Eclipse find these classes automatically, without the use of import statements? I should point out that the translated code would these include the required import statements--but this is not a problem for me. I'm also aware that this could lead to lazy programmers and some bad habits. To clarify, consider the following example of pre-translated code: File f = new File("Somefilename.txt"); which clearly requires the possibly imported class File. Without an import statement (import java.io.File;), Eclipse reports that File can not be resolved to a type. This is the error I'd like to hide in files pertaining to projects created for use with my plug-in. (The translated code would include import java.io.File; so that it would be runnable) In closing, I should point out I'm not necessarily looking for code (though I wouldn't be opposed to it), but rather some links to some relevant tutorials (if they exist), or helpful tips/ideas. Also, as this is my first plug-in, it's entirely possible that what I'd like to do is not possible and that I don't realize it--if this is the case, please let me know, preferably with some justification. I have found 32bit version of it and putted in subdirectory of /usr/lib32 but eclipse do not want to look for it there. How can I make it to look for libraries in /usr/lib32?

• Why does headless PDE Build omit directories I've specified in build.properties's bin.includes?

  One of my Eclipse plug-ins (OSGi bundles) is supposed to contain a directory (Database Elements) of .sql files. My build.properties shows: bin.includes = META-INF/,\ .,\ Database Elements/ (...which looks right to me.) When I build and run from within my interactive Eclipse IDE, everything works fine: calls to Bundle.getEntry(String) and Bundle.findEntries(String, String, bool) return valid URL objects; my tests are happy; my code is happy. When I build via headless ant script (using PDE Build), those same calls end up returning null. My tests break; my code breaks. I find that Database Elements is quietly but simply missing from my plug-in's JAR package. (META-INF and the built classes still make it in there fine.) I scoured the build log (even eventually invoking ant -verbose on the relevant portion of the build script) but saw no mention of anything helpful. What gives?

  I watched today as someone painlessly exported a NetBeans java project to a JNLP file and HTML file that he could just copy to his web server. I, for whatever reason, have found making JNLPs someone challenging, and would love if I could do the same in Eclipse, but I can't seem to find such a function or a plugin which does this. The only thing I've found is this article but I can't really parse it, it's a bit dense to me, for instance it mentions: Ensure that the org.eclipse.equinox.launcher plug-in is in the feature or in one of the included feature; But if that's even a grammatical sentence, I don't know how to ensure what it says.

  Hey, I've a large eclipse project with multiple junit classes. I'm trying to strike a balance between adding runtime resources to the eclipse project classpath, and the need to configure mutliple junit launch configurations. I realise the default eclipse build classpath is inherited by all unit test configurations, but some of my tests require extra runtime resources. I could add these resources to the build classpath, but this does slow my overall project build time (since it has to keep more files in synch). I don't like the idea of including * resources and jars on the runtime classpath. The two options that i have are these, the positive and negative cases as i see it are listed 1 : Add all runtime resources to eclipse classpath. POS I can select a unit test and run it without having to configure the test classpath. POS Extra resources on build classpath means eclipse slows down. NEG More difficult to ensure each test uses the correct resources. 2 : Configure the classpath of each unit test POS I know exactly what resources are being used by a test. POS Smaller build classpath means quicker build and execution by eclipse. NEG Its a pain having to setup multiple separate junit runtime classpaths. Ideally i'd like to configure one base junit runtime configuration, which takes the default eclipse build classpath, adds extra runtime jars and resources. This configuration could then be reused by the specific junit test cases, Is anything like this possible?   I have a thumb drive (memory stick, flash drive, etc.) on which I use for my projects when I am away from my home PC. Currently I am accessing my Eclipse project directly from my thumb drive when connected to my PC. I would like to copy my files to the PC, develop on the PC, then "synchronize" with the thumb drive (update files on the thumb drive). I also need the reverse process too: synchronize thumb drive files with files on PC. I have looked at the FileSync plugin, but it specifically says it is one-way. How can I synchronize my Eclipse project both directions (PC to thumb drive and thumb drive to PC) on demand (I don't need this done automagically)?

  Hi, I'm trying to generate javadoc with JAutodoc 1.7 for Eclipse 3.5. I've sucessfully created templates for files, classes, methods. However, on parameters and exceptions I get the default @param and @throws tags generated even if I change the template in preferences/JAutodoc/templates/parameters. This is incompatible with the coding standards they have given us. Any help? Btw, I tried to use the default eclipse comment template but I couldn't find any enclosing_method_arguments variable in my version. Any ideas why that might be?

  How to streamline/automate the configuration of Eclipse? Given N developers running a mixture of Ubuntu and Mac OS X, all with the same version of Eclipse, how to make sure that: Each developer, on top of his favourite "Available Software Sites" selection, has a common set of installation sources? Each developer has an easy (automated?) way of installing a base set of plug-ins? Each developer can just as easily install a custom plugin developed in-house and distributed over the local network? No automatically deployed plugins conflict with any others a developer might already be using? I would post this to serverfault.com if it wasn't that I am more interested in a "scripting" answer than a traditional "system management" solution... ;-)

• Eclipse standard warning/error overlay icons

  I'm writing an Eclipse plug-in... In my custom label decorator, I want to overlay a warning icon, and I'd like to use the standard one used by eclipse (the little yellow triangle). How can I get an image descriptor of this icon? I tried using workbench.getSharedImages().getImageDescriptor(ISharedImages .IMG_DEC_FIELD_WARNING), since that ID seems to match what I'm looking for, but the shared images collection doesn't actually have that image in it (so I just get a null returned). Is there some other shared image collection that I should be looking at?
