  • What's faster for web-server virtualization ? (virtualbox or KVM)

    I have question, does anyone try to set up a webserver (debian) using virtualbox (x64) ? Right now i have few servers in KVM (x64) but i think it work slowly... Can i get something more (faster, performance) using virtualbox (x64)? On my home installation it looks very fast. Should i move to vbox against kvm ? I'm looking for answer from someone who have in virtualbox (x64) real server (can be headless) (debian/ubuntu) not windows xp or other home using things ;) I also got xp, 2k3, ubuntu in virtualbox (x86) and for me looking faster than kvm(x64). But it's hard to say anything without real tests done by multiple users not just one.

  • mosh-like port forwarding

    This is on linux, connecting to linux servers: I love mosh, but it doesn't support port forwarding, and likely won't for a while since it's been almost a year now and it hasn't happened yet. port forwarding over ssh is great, but because my laptop moves between networks several times a day, my ssh sessions die, and so do the port forwards. I could script/hack something to detect hung ssh and reconnect to get my port forwards back, but before I do this, is there another way to do long lasting port forwards when your source IP changes several times daily (because you go on different networks)? I'm thinking an ssh over UDP would do the trick but of course ssh is over TCP.

  • Strange network connectivity problem

    Here is my network connectivity: cable modem | |(WAN) wrt54g (default gateway, 192.168.1.1) -- earth |(LAN) | Simple Switch1 | | | | | SimpleSwitch2- neptune | | | | mars mercury | |- venus | |- laptop | saturn (Windows AD DC) simpleSwitch2 was hanging off the wrt54g. I moved it to SW1 during troubleshooting. Nothing described below was any different. earth is connected via wireless to the wrt54g. I can ping from laptop to mars, neptune & mercury. I can ping from earth to venus, saturn & laptop. However, pinging mars, mercury or neptune from earth gives the following result. Pinging mars.XXX.XXX [192.168.1.105] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.1.122: Destination host unreachable. Reply from 192.168.1.122: Destination host unreachable. Reply from 192.168.1.122: Destination host unreachable. Reply from 192.168.1.122: Destination host unreachable. Ping statistics for 192.168.1.105: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), .122 is the address of the machine from which I am pinging. earth is a Vista machine. Windows firewall is off. saturn is my DNS & DHCP server. Can anyone give me any ideas what the h*ll is going on? Clearly the topology is a factor And yes, I am a space geek.

  • Why doesn't tmux respond to shortcuts properly?

    I'm using OSX 10.8.1 in combination with iTerm2, zsh and tmux via Homebrew. The beginning of my ~/.tmux.conf file looks like this: set -g prefix C-a unbind C-b bind-key a send-prefix set -sg escape-time 1 When I start tmux and press C-a c, nothing happens. When I spam C-a c fast enough then some new tabs open up, but not the equivalent count of my command spaming. When I press C-a first followed by c, nothing happens again. Is there a delay issue or what's up with my tmux installation/configuration?

  • No display but video card fans spins

    Since I moved my computer there's no display when I plug my screen in the video card but works fine in the mother board. I tried reseting the cmos, but I still have the same problem. The fans are spining and there's a light from the card. I tried the DVI ports and the HDMI Here's my build. I have it for 2 months and everything was working fine. Do you think it's the video card?   • How to completely disable IPv6 for loopback interface on RHEL 5.6

    I've done lots of research on how to disable IPv6 on RedHat Linux and I have it almost completely disabled. However the loopback interface is still getting an inet6 loopback address (::1/128). I can't find where IPV6 is still enabled for loopback.     I'm looking for a very cheap machine to run a linux distro for security(anti-thief) software. I would like to be able to connect to the network and a couple of webcams. May be ip-webcams or usb-webcams. The idea is having a machine with batteryes, laptop style, but there is no need to have a display/monitor attatched all the time. I'm planning to spend no more than 200$, in case it also gets stolen. Any advice on what to buy? (all modifications to this security plan are welcome) Thanks.

  • error_log php.ini setting has no effect on IIS 7/FastCGI/Win7/PHP5.3.2

    I have a very strange problem with PHP 5.3.2 running on IIS 7 on a fresh Windows 7 installation. Changing the error_log configuration options in the php.ini does not seem to have any effect. I cannot change the option to point to anything other than the default location. Here is a portion of my php.ini file and the output from phpinfo() before and after changing some configuration options. Everything else seems to have taken effect except the error_log option. I have noticed that the fastcgi.logging option also appears to be stuck. A previous setup with PHP 5.3.2 on Win XP and IIS 5.5 exhibited no problems. I am passing several Select statements, so the dataset contains multiple tables. I replaced $DataSet.Tables[0] with for ($i=0;$i -lt $DataSet.tables.count;$i++){ $Dataset.Tables[$i] } but the console only shows the content of the first table and blank lines for each records of what should be the second table. The only way to see the result is to change the code to $Dataset.Tables[$i] | out-string but I do not want strings, I want to have table objects to work with. When I assign what is returned by the Invoke-SQLCommand to a variable, I can see that I have an array of datarow objects but only from the first table. What happened to the second table? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Install .NET 4.0 dll to the GAC

    I have a visual C# 2010 express install. Built a .NET 4.0 dll that is signed. Now I need to get it into the GAC. Im on 64bit vista. Anyone know if there is a gacutil supporting the 4.0 framework yet? Any other suggestions on getting it into the GAC? I have tried drag and drop into C:\Windows\assembly, whenever I do, it appears to copy; however, it is not copied and does not produce any error message. I cannot create a setup/deployment project as it appears the express editions of visual studios do not have the ability.
