• How to extract a Sub-Matrix from a Matrix ?

  Hello, I have a matrix in a txt file and I want to load the matrix based on my input of number of rows and columns For example, I have a 5 by 5 matrix in the file. I want to extract a 3 by 3 matrix, how can I do that ? I created a nested loop using : FILE *sample sample=fopen("randomfile.txt","r"); for(i=0;i<rows;i++){ for(j=0;j<cols;j++){ fscanf(sample,"%f",&matrix[i][j]); } fscanf(sample,"\n",&matrix[i][j]); } fclose(sample); Sadly the code does not work .. If I have this matrix : 5.00 4.00 5.00 6.00 5.00 4.00 3.00 25.00 5.00 3.00 4.00 23.00 5.00 2.00 352.00 6.00 And inputting 3 for rows and 3 for columns, I get : 5.00 4.00 5.00 6.00 5.00 4.00 3.00 25.00 5.00 Which is obviously wrong , its reading line by line rather than skipping the unmentioned column ... • Is *not* using the asp.net membership provider a bad idea?

  Is it generally a really bad idea to not use the built-in asp.net membership provider? I've always rolled my own for my asp.net apps (public facing), and really have not had any problems in doing so. It works, and seems to avoid a layer of complexity. My needs are pretty basic: once setup, the user must use email address and password to login, if they forget it, it will be emailed back to them (a new one). After setup there is little that needs to be done to each user account, but I do need to store several extra fields with each user (full name, telephone and a few other fields etc). The number of users that required login credentials are small (usually just the administrator and a few backups), and everyone else uses the site unauthenticated. What are the big advantages that I might be missing out on by skipping the asp.net membership provider functionality?

• How to skip interstitial in a django view if a user hits the back button?

  I have an application with an interstitial page to hold the user while an intensive operation runs in the background (takes anywhere from 30 secs to 1 minute). Once the operation is done, the user is redirected to the results page. Once on the result page, typical user behavior is to hit the 'back' button to perform the operation on a different input set. However, the back button takes them to the interstitial, not the original form. The desired behavior is to go back to the original form, skipping the interstitial entirely. I'd like this to be default behavior if the user goes to the interstitial page from anywhere but the original form. I thought I could create this by using the @never_cache function decorator in my view for the interstitial, and logic based on request.META['HTTP_REFERER'], however the page doesn't respect these. The browser's back button still trumps this behavior. Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

• Objective-C stringWithFormat misses an argument?

  When I run this code: - (NSString *)description{ return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"(FROG idle:%i animating:%i rect:%@ position:%@ tongue:%@)", self.idleTime, self.animating, NSStringFromCGRect(self.rect), NSStringFromCGPoint(self.position), tongue ]; } I get the following output: (FROG idle:0 animating:0 rect:(null) position:{{1,2}{3,4}} tongue:{5,6}) This is wrong because it seems to be skipping the rect format string and placing everything displaced by one. So idle and animating are what I expect, then rect is skipped, but the result from NSStringFromCGRect(self.rect) is placed into position, then the result for position is pushed to tongue, then tongue is not displayed at all. I'm at a loss.

• XamlXmlReader.Read() does not yield matching XamlNodeType.StartObject and XamlNodeType.EndObject on

  Hi, I am trying to parse a valid xaml file using the XamlXmlReader. It looks like it is 'skipping' some elements when when Read() is called. for example on the following xaml snippet: <UserControl.Resources> <Converters:AnyDbTypeToDisplayNameConverter x:Key="anyDbTypeToDisplayNameConverter" /> </UserControl.Resources> when reading I first get a XamlNodeType.StartObject on UserControl.Resources - makes sense then another XamlNodeType.StartObject on Converters - also cool. but then i do not get a XamlNodeType.EndObject on the Converters and immediately jump to the next line and does not report a XamlNodeType.StartObject. Any Idea if this is working as design ? looks like a bug to me

• Java BufferedReader behavior in CSV vs TXT file

  If i try to read a CSV file called csv_file.csv. The problem is that when i read lines with BufferedReader.readLine() it skips the first line with months. But when i rename the file to csv_file.txt it reads it allright and it's not skipping the first line. Is there an undocumented "feature" of BufferedReader that i'm not aware? • How to host a naked domain on a CDN?

  If I have a domain that I wish to serve "naked" eg http://examp.le/, and efficiently with a CDN, what are my options? The issue is that the CDNs I looked at all want you to use a CNAME so that they can do geo ip lookup. CNAMES are not meant to be served at the same level as other records, and this apparently breaks some dns resolvers. You at least need SOA and MX records at the same level for a naked domain. The only solutions are: having A records in your own dns, thus skipping the geo ip, or finding a cdn who will allow delegation of the whole domain so they can do geo ip things for the A record directly. I've tried googling and can't find any Cdn who offers this. Any ideas? I looked closely at Amazon cloudfront and rackspace cloudfiles. I couldn't work it out for those.

  Hi! I have a directory in which I keep adding different C++ source files, and generic Makefile to compile them. Also, there are some files which are compiled together: g++ file_main.cxx file.cxx -o file_main.out To compile such files, until now I have been adding explicit rules in the Makefile: file_main.out: file_main.cxx file.cxx file.out: file_main.out @echo "Skipping $@" But now my Makefile has a lot of explicit rules, and I would like to replace them with a simpler implicit rule.   I have an flash game with the following code (http://pastie.org/9248528) When I run it, the player just falls and doesn't stop when he hits a platform. I tried debugging it and I had an error with moveCharacter's timer, but I don't know if that is the main problem. I put the player inside the wall and debugged it using breakpoints and it didn't detect that the player was inside the wall, skipping moving it to outside of the wall. If anyone has any ideas on what is wrong with my code then that would be great thanks!

  If you have 3 classes, with the parent class listed first shape- 2d shapes, 3d shapes - circle, sphere When you write your constructor for the circle class, would you ever just initialize the parent Shape object and then your current object, skipping the middle class. It seems to me you could have x,y coordinates for Shape and initialize those in the constructor, and initialize a radius in the circle or sphere class, but in 2d or 3d shape classes, I wouldn't know what to put in the constructor since it seems like it would be identical to shape. So is something like this valid Circle::Circle(int x, int y, int r) : Shape(x, y), r(r) {} I get a compile error of: illegal member initialization: 'Shape' is not a base or member So I wasn't sure if my code was legal or best practice even. Or if instead you'd have the middle class just do what the top level Shape class does TwoDimensionalShape::TwoDimensionalShape(int x, int y) : Shape (x, y) {} and then in the Circle class Circle::Circle(int x, int y, int r) : TwoDimensionalShape(x, y), r(r) {}

• x86 Assembly - printf doesn't print without "\n"

  So I'm confused. I'm going through the book "Programming from the Ground Up" and am working with using libraries. printf is working just fine so long as I include a "\n" in the string, but without it it will print absolutely nothing. Any idea why this happens? Code: .section .data my_str: .ascii "Jimmy Joe is %d years old!\n\0" my_num: .long 76 .section .text .globl _start _start: pushl my_num pushl $my_str call printf movl $1, %eax movl $0, %ebx int $0x80 Also, when I use -m elf_i386 for 32-bit mode and -dynamic-linker /lib/ld-linux.so.2 -lc to link, I get the warning ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib64/libc.so when searching for -lc If that makes any difference, or if anybody has any suggestions as to how to have it load the 32-bit library directly.   Skipping the question of whether this is bad design (and the question of why I would want/need to do this), I'm just wondering if my 'math' is right... I have n things that need to be put in order (n is always less than 5): thing1 thing2 thing3 ... and I'd like to store these results in a single integer for thing. My initial thought is that (obviously the code will not look like this): thing = thing1 * 1 + thing2 * 2 + thing3 * 4 + thing5 * 8 will always give me a unique value, and that any value for thing will always translate back to its values for thing1...thingn. Is this correct?

  I run this basic code in Ruby (on Windows): def hello () puts 'test' end hello and the Interpreter throws me this error: app.ru:1: syntax error, unexpected tIDENTIFIER, expecting $end hello puts 'test' It seems like Ruby is skipping lines? I've tried various encoding formats, other code and it still gives me an error similar to this. Why is it happening? EDIT The suggestions were to either use different editors or semi-colons to see if the lines were an issue. The version is also new - 1.9.3p327, so that shouldn't have been a problem. Parentheses aren't a problem either.

  When compiling the below, the program seem to crash. However, there is no error in the compiling process. ... int *x; *x = 3; printf("%d", *x); ... From what I know, this program initializes the pointer *x to an integer value, and subsequently assigns the value of 3 to the deferenced pointer *x. So why does the program crashes? If I do this instead, the program can work normally. ... int *x, y; y = 3; x = &y; printf("%d", *x); ... So, what seems to be the problem with the skipping of the y variable, and instead, assigning the pointer *x directly to an integer value?

If I run stress, it does run a little, but it's nowhere near the speed it should be. After a while, the laptop just overheats and stops. I Tried to install tp-fancontrol, and enabled thinkpad_acpi fancontrol=1, but to no avail. If I try to set the fan speed manually, it doesn't start up. In windows, there's a program called TPFanControl. It turns out that this laptop uses a different scheme to control the fan than other thinkpads. The level runs from 0 to 255, and max = 0 and min=255. Now I'm looking for a fan control program that works for linux. Does anyone know if it actually exists? Anyone with any experience on fan control on a L430? Update: sudo pwmconfig gives the following output: # pwmconfig revision 5857 (2010-08-22) This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm) controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm. We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls. The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you physically verify that the fans have been to full speed after the program has completed. Found the following devices: hwmon0 is acpitz hwmon1/device is coretemp hwmon2/device is thinkpad Found the following PWM controls: hwmon2/device/pwm1 hwmon2/device/pwm1 is currently setup for automatic speed control. In general, automatic mode is preferred over manual mode, as it is more efficient and it reacts faster. Are you sure that you want to setup this output for manual control? (n) y Giving the fans some time to reach full speed... Found the following fan sensors: hwmon2/device/fan1_input current speed: 0 ... skipping! There are no working fan sensors, all readings are 0. • Chroot into a 32 bit version of ubuntu from a 64 bit host

  I have a piece of software that only runs on 32 bit linux (Xilinx webPack 10.1, apperently it 'has' to be the old version because that's the latest one compatible with their boards), anyway, this version is only compatible with 32 bit linux. So, I head off to this page to see what I can do: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/32bit_and_64bit Of the 4 options (listed at the bottom): I already installed ia32-libs, and it's still not working I could do that one if needed (which I ended up doing). No, I don't want to be working from a vm all of next semester, that would be painful and I'd rather just reinstall my whole computer to a 32 bit os (which I don't want to do). It didn't sound like it was the best option based on what I've seen. So I went off to do #2, and set up a chroot for 32 bit ubuntu. It linked to this tutorial: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebootstrapChroot As I'm running ubuntu 10.10 I made the lucid and newer version changes. Which is to say I wrote: [hardy-i386] description=Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy for i386 directory=/srv/chroot/hardy-i386 personality=linux32 root-users=leif type=directory users=leif to /etc/schroot/chroot.d/hardy-i386 (Note though that I did save it once before I had the file properly formatted, I saved the correct version moments later though). I then ran: $ sudo mkdir -p /srv/chroot/hardy_i386 $ sudo debootstrap --variant=buildd --arch i386 hardy /srv/chroot/hardy_i386 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ Then I ran: $ schroot -l And it showed the proper chroot, but then when I ran: $ schroot -c hardy-i386 -u root I got the following error: E: 10mount: error: Directory '/srv/chroot/hardy-i386' does not exist E: 10mount: warning: Mount location /var/lib/schroot/mount/hardy-i386-80359697-2164-4b10-a05a-89b0f497c4f1 no longer exists; skipping unmount E: hardy-i386-80359697-2164-4b10-a05a-89b0f497c4f1: Chroot setup failed: stage=setup-start Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is? Oh, by the way: /srv/chroot/hardy-i386 most certainly exists. I've also tried it replacing all references with hardy to lucid, to no avail. Oh, one more thing, I did set up the chrome os environment a month back or so: http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/developer-guide and it had me use something with chmod.
