I want to be able to take a shortened or non-shortened URL and return its un-shortened form. How can I make a python program to do this?
Additional Clarification:
Case 1: shortened -- unshortened
Case 2: unshortened -- unshortened
e.g. bit.ly/silly in the input array should be google.com in the output array
e.g. google.com in the input array should be google.com in the output array
Thanks for the help!
I'm curious if their is some python magic I may not know to accomplish a bit of frivolity
given the line:
csvData.append(','.join([line.split(":").strip() for x in L]))
I'm attempting to split a line on :, trim whitespace around it, and join on ,
problem is, since the array is returned from line.split(":"), the
for x in L #<== L doesn't exist!
causes issues since I have no name for the array returned by line.split(":")
So I'm curious if there is a sexy piece of syntax I could use to accomplish this in one shot?
Cheers!
I'm running OS X Leopard. I followed this site to install it. Trying to run any demo script, I now get "No module named opencv.cv", which is obviously stopping me from doing any programming. I am running python 2.5.1 (yes, I know it's kind of old).
Why would this be, and how can I solve it?
Thanks

Hi there,
I feel like this is quite delicate,
I have various folders whith projects I would like to backup into a zip/tar file, but would like to avoid backing up files such as pyc files and temporary files.
I also have a Postgres db I need to backup.
Any tips for running this operation as a python script?
Also, would there be anyway to stop the process from hogging resources in the process?
Help would be very much appreciated.
What's the best way to sanitise user input for a Python-based web application? Is there a single function to remove HTML characters and any other necessary characters combinations to ensure that an XSS or SQL injection attack isn't possible?
I'm running a python program. When it get's to these lines:

I need to change some characters that are not ASCII to '_'.
For example,
Tannh‰user - Tann_huser
If I use regular expression with Python, how can I do this?
Is there better way to do this not using RE?
This is a question I have wondered about for quite some time, yet I have never found a suitable solution. If I run a script and I come across, let's say an IndexError, python prints the line, location and quick description of the error and exits. Is it possible to automatically start pdb when an error is encountered? I am not against having an extra import statement at the top of the file, nor a few extra lines of code.
Well i'm learning Python cuz' i think is an awesome and powerful language like C++, perl or C# but is really really easy at same time. I'm using JetBrains' Pycharm and when i define a function it ask me to add a "Documentation String Stub" when i click yes it adds somethin like this:
"""
"""
so the full code of the function is something like this:
def otherFunction(h, w):
"""
"""
hello = h
world = w
full_word = h + ' ' + w
return full_word
I would like to know what these (""" """) symbols means, Thanks.
Ps.Data: Sorry for my bad english :D
I am trying really hard to make a sliding frame containing widgets in tkinter in python. There is this frame inside a big window with different widgets. And as soon as i click on the next button on that frame the frame should slowly slide towards the left and vanish ultimately. As soon as it vanishes, i want new frame with widgets to come sliding towards right.
What should i do?
Anticipating your suggestions and ideas.
Does anybody know any module in Python that computes the best bipartite matching?
I have tried the following two:
munkres
hungarian
However, in my case, I have to deal with non-complete graph (i.e., there might not be an edge between two nodes), and therefore, there might not be a match if the node has no edge. The above two packages seem not to be able to deal with this.
Any advice?
I have an unknown number of functions in my python script (well, it is known, but not constant) that start with site_...
I was wondering if there's a way to go through all of these functions in some main function that calls for them.
something like:
foreach function_that_has_site_ as coolfunc
if coolfunc(blabla,yada) == true:
return coolfunc(blabla,yada)
so it would go through them all until it gets something that's true.
thanks!
I'm trying to work with sockets and I have such problem
In code example:
setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET,IN.SO_BINDTODEVICE,self.listen_address+'\0')
I have error
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'SO_BINDTODEVICE'
On Linux machine this attribute is OK but on FreeBSD trere are no any SO_* attributes in module IN. What port should I install to resolve this problem on FreeBDS machine?
Python versions on Linux tested:
2.5.4 and 2.6.4;
on FreeBSD:
2.5.5
I can't find anything about this module in my book, and googling keyword IN looks like seamless ...
Good day chaps.
I'm interested in learning how to invert (make a negative of) an image using the python image libary module.
I cannot however, use the ImageOps function 'invert.' I need another solution, using the RGB values. I've searched and tried to no avail. Thanks for any help :)
hello.
What is the pythonic way to test if there is a tuple starting with another tuple in collection? actually, I am really after the index of match, but I can probably figure out from test example
for example:
c = ((0,1),(2,3))
# (0,) should match first element, (3,)should match no element
I should add my python is 2.4 and/or 2.5
thanks
I'm new in python and I'm having some issues doing a simple thing.
I've an array (or list as it's said in pyton) like this:
list = [ 'NICE dog' , 'blue FLOWER' , 'GOOD cat' , 'YELLOW caw']
As you see each element of this array contains some words. These words is both lowercase and uppercase.
How I can delete from this array each lowercase words?
For example I'd like to have as result this list:
list = [ 'NICE' , 'FLOWER' , 'GOOD' , 'YELLOW']
I need a way to determine the space remaining on a disk volume using python on linux, Windows and OS X. I'm currently parsing the output of the various system calls (df, dir) to accomplish this - is there a better way?
How can I split a line in Python at a non-printing ascii character (such as the long minus sign hex 0x97 , Octal 227)?
I won't need the character itself. The information after it will be saved as a variable.
I am looking to setup a automated screen scraper that will run on Google app engine using python. I want it to scrape the site and put the specified results into a Entity in app engine. I am looking for some directions on what to use. I have seen beautifulsoup but wonder if people could recommend anything else that could run on Google App engine.
Im using python to access a MySQL database and im getting a unknown column in field due to quotes not being around the variable.
code below:
cur = x.cnx.cursor()
cur.execute('insert into tempPDBcode (PDBcode) values (%s);' % (s))
rows = cur.fetchall()
How do i manually insert double or single quotes around the value of s?
I've trying using str() and manually concatenating quotes around s but it still doesn't work.
The sql statement works fine iv double and triple check my sql query.
