  • CSS fixed div. Avoid unwanted overlapping

    - by Justa Randomone
I've got a CSS layout made of 2 columns. the navigation column to the left is a fix div. It stays there while scrolling down the main content in the column to the right. The problem comes when I reduce the browser window, or zoom in: when scrolling the browser windom horizontally, the main content on the right starts overlapping the navigation column on the left. How can I fix it so that whatever the size of my browser window or my zoom level is, when i scroll horizontally the fixed div isn't overlapped but pushes the main column to the right? You can see it for real at: http://justarandomone.tumblr.com/ All the code is in the source (It is pretty messy, sorry for that). Hope some one can help. Thanks!

  • Rails + Passenger CSS problem

    - by Dan
I'm trying to deploy my first Rails app. At first, I was getting the following error: ActionView::TemplateError (Permission denied) I set the permissions of the stylesheets folder to 777 (just for now until I work out what's going wrong) and the application started to work. However, it is not picking up any of the stylesheets (everything is displayed in plain text). If I view the source code and click the CSS links, I just get a blank page. Javascripts however, seem to be working just fine. VHost Config: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName xxxx.xxx.com DocumentRoot /home/myapp/public <Directory /home/myapp/public> Allow from All AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> Can anyone help? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

  • Fixing CSS positioning and scaling

    - by Louis
I was contemplating writing a UI toolkit where setting the position and size of an element/widget was intuitive and powerful. Here are some examples of how it would be used (not currently implemented): ui("Panel").size(". 40").pos("0 0").attach(element); ui("Textarea").size(". %-10").pos("0 40").attach(element); ui("Panel").size(". 10").pos("0 bottom+5"); Where . means auto, % means 100% and the possibility to add pixels to percentages. Does anything like said exist (even as a jQuery plugin or something)? Somethings just aren't possible with pure CSS.

  • PHP/CSS issue, one account has a fine style, the other is weird

    - by HighFlyerPL185
Hello there, I am currently having the above issue, where on a CMS called phpVMS a CSS displaying front page works fine on the first account, but does not on any other user accounts. This only applies to the frontpage, and all of the tags seem to be closed. The top half of the picture is how it should display and how it displays for user GSM1001. The bottom half is for users GSM1002 upwards. I am really puzzled and I'd appreciate any suggestions. I am happy to post snippets of the code here or on jsFiddle if you require to see it. Thank you, kind regards.

  • Issue with css float -- Hindering IE6 from putting div in next line

    - by Bernhard V
Hi, I've got an issue with floating divs in IE6. There's one navigation div on the left and one content div for the rest of the page. They've got the following css values: #navigation { float: left; width: 185px; padding-left: 5px; overflow: auto; height: 100%; } #content { overflow: auto; height: 100%; } In Firefox, IE8, Chrome and Opera, I get scrollbars for the content div when I resize the page to a size where both divs can't fit in as a whole. The navigation div stays in its place. And that is the desired behaviour. But in IE6, there are no scrollbars for the content div. Instead, when the page is getting too small, IE6 simply puts the content div under the navigation div. Do you know any way to hinder IE6 from this behaviour?

  • CSS navigation submenu and seperator

    - by Xenioz
I have created a navigation bar that is centered with CSS which works. Each li item is separated with a border which is a background image. When hovering on the nav items, the separator disappears because the hover changes the background (I guess) but I wonder how I can fix this, padding or margin can't work because it will just shift the li element. Second problem is that the sub menu items aren't displaying correctly and I have no idea why... Demonstration: http://jsfiddle.net/Xenios/tfbhh/9/embedded/result/ The code: http://jsfiddle.net/Xenios/tfbhh/9/ I'm trying to get this to work for almost a week, and I'm quite tired of it, so I'm looking here for support.

  • Need CSS Help with a hover element - cant extend to left and right of page

    - by Bobafett
Hi there, Need some CSS guru help. If you visit my link: http://www.gabbr.com/js/viewer/cmedata/index1.html and hover over the years (top middles, 2008, 2009, 2010, etc) you will notice an orange bar extending from the top to the bottom of the page. I am trying to get the same effect on the left (month and day) but am unable to do so. The problem I am having is that I cannot get the orange hover bar to extend off the left of the screen for either #dayleft or for #monthleft. It extends all the way to the right margin of the screen but not the left. The problem is the margin-left: 15px; in #monthleft and margin-left: 80px; in #dayleft. But I cannot get rid of these since I require them for the letter spacing. Any advice?

  • JQuery tools overlay opens at the top of page instead of overlaying in IE, works fine in FF/Chrome

    - by culov
Here is the sandbox version of my site: http://3.latest.truxmapper.appspot.com/ To reproduce the error, hover over to the toolbar and go to Support -- FAQ. In Chrome/FF, this will work as expected. In IE, the background image will quickly move to the center of the page, but when its time to insert the div over the background image, its inserted on top of the page rather than the center of the page. The plugin example ( http://flowplayer.org/tools/overlay/apple.html ) works fine in IE, so i know it ought to be possible. I've tried messing around with the div placement on the html and with the css to no avail. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks!

  • Help with doctype issues

    - by James
Hi I am having issues making my footer stick to the bottom of the page in all browsers. I have the following document structure: <html> <head> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="header"> <ul> <li>home</li> </ul> </div> <div class="expander"></div> </div> <div id="footer" class="expander"> </div> </body> </html> Relevant CSS is: body { margin: 0; height: 100%; } #wrapper { min-height: 100%; height: auto !important; height: 100%; margin: 0 auto -116px; } .expander { height: 116px; } #footer { width: 100%; } #header ul { list-style: none outside none; clear: both; margin: 0; } #header li { margin: 0; margin-right: 20px; padding: 0; display: inline-block; height: 85px; padding-top: 20px; margin-bottom: -20px; } When used without any doc type, the page renders as I intend it to in Chrome and Firefox. In IE8, however, the list item tabs are on separate lines When I add an XHTML doctype, the page renders correctly in IE8 except the footer is not drawn at the bottom of the page in IE8, Chrome or Firefox, i.e. the footer sits directly below the menu bar. Example doctype: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> What am I doing wrong?

  • IE7 and the CSS table-cell property

    - by Ryan Smith
So I just love it when my application is working great in Firefox, but then I open it in IE and... Nope, please try again. The issue I'm having is that I'm setting a CSS display property to either "none" or "table-cell" with JavaScript. I was initially using "display: block;", but Firefox was rending it weird without the table-cell property. I would love to do this without adding an hack in the JavaScript to test for IE. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • What is the Quicker / More Efficient CSS styling

    - by Sessa
    I have been curious as to which method of CSS styling is quicker (rendering wise) and then from simply a best practices perspective which method makes more sense (pretty subjective I would say?). I can create base classes like: .rounded-corners-5 { -moz-border-radius: 5px; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; border-radius: 5px; } OR I can do the other method of applying styles to multiple IDs/Classes: #box1, #header, #container, .titles { -moz-border-radius: 5px; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; border-radius: 5px; }

  • [JQuery] Edit Css with animation effect

    - by Pennywise83
Hi, I've a div in a absolute position with a default "top" value set to "-200px". When i click on the div the "top" value is updated to "0". In this way I see the entire Div. This is the js: $(document).ready(function(){ $("#search_bar").click(function () { $(this).css("top","0"); }); }); Is there a way to achieve this result but with an animation? For example, a slide down effect? Also, when i click another time to the div I'd like that the "top" value will be restored to "-200px".

  • CSS: reposition element on hover state but maintain clickable area position

    - by abirduphigh
I'm trying to create the effect of a button that 'lifts' from the page when rolled over. Using CSS, I have a block style <a> element that, when hovered, re-positions itself up and to the left 5px, and a shadow is left behind: a { display: inline-block; position: relative; } a:hover { top: -5px; left: -5px; box-shadow: rgba(0,0,0,.2) 5px 5px 2px; } The problem: When the <a> block jumps 5px away from the cursor during the hover, the cursor is no longer actually hovering over the block and the block then jumps back when the cursor is moved only slightly thereafter. How can I maintain the original hover area so that the element doesn't keep jumping back and forth when the cursor is only slightly moved? I'd like to avoid adding superfluous container elements to my code if at all possible.

  • Is there a way to have element behind a div (links) clickable in areas where the div is "transparent

    - by Adam
I have a block element that is positioned absolutely and some other elements on page that are positioned fixed. The effect is the block on top floats over the page which works well. The links in the elements at the bottom underneath are not clickable. They shouldn't be when the content of the div is over them, but when the "marginal" areas which are transparent are over the links they are visible, but clicks only register to the covering div. The problem only happens when the padding covers the div. But if I just rely on the margin the bottom margin is ignored by browser so the scroll doesn't go high enough up. To solve this I resort to padding at the bottom. This is the problem. Is there a clean way around this? I realize I could have the underneath elements doubled and place on top, but opacity set to 0. That is an undesirable solution however. Sample of the problem: <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang='en' xml:lang='en' xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'> <head> <style> #top, #bottom { position: fixed; border: 1 px solid #333; background-color: #eee; left: 100px; padding: 8px; } #top { top: 0; z-index: 1; } #bottom { bottom: 0; z-index: 2; } #contentWrapper { position: absolute; margin: 100px 0 0 0; /* Padding is used to make sure the scroll goes up further on the page */ padding: 0 0 100px 0; width: 600px; z-index: 3; } #content { border: 1 px solid #333; background-color: #eee; height: 1000px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id='top'><a href="#">Top link</a></div> <div id='bottom'><a href="#">Bottom link</a></div> <div id='contentWrapper'> <div id='content'>Some content</div> </div> </body> </html>

  • CSS and JQuery: spaces inside image name break code of url()

    - by Shyam
Hi, I have a page that is supposed to display a larger version of an image when hovered over a thumbnail. I have a 'div' with an ID and the JQuery code is as following: $(document).ready(function(){ $('img').hover(function() { var src = $("#im" + this.id).attr("src"); $('#viewlarge').css('backgroundImage','url(' + src +')'); return false; }); }); The images I use, are generated by a Ruby script that "generate" an image with a similar, yet different id. However, sometimes, photo's are uploaded that have "spaces" inside. My developer tools tell me that the background-image is not set correctly, yet the image path is correct and the browser don't have problems finding the image. My question is, can I somehow sanitize the url 'src', so spaces won't be a problem? I am aware of doing this server side, yet I would like to know how to do this with JQuery/JS too. Thanks!

  • How to display a border-bottom only if table cells are not empty (CSS)

    - by Polarpro
Hey there, I've got a Filemaker calculation that generates an HTML page with several tables. If the calculation results in values for certain fields the result would be <table> <tr><td>Example value 1</td></tr> <tr><td>Example value 2</td></tr> ... </table> If the calculation finds no values to be displayed, the result would simply be <table> </table> In the first case, I want to the table to display a border at the bottom (or any other horizontal line); in the second case, I don't want to display a border at the bottom. I cannot find a way to get this done using a CSS... Thanks in adavance :-)

  • How animate stacking divs in javascript/css?

    - by Teiviere
Say I have 2 divs with the same CSS class that are stacked on top of each other: div { width:100px; height: 100px; background: red; } How do I make it so that when I click a button at the top of the page, a new div is created from off the screen at the bottom and moves upwards stopping where the 2nd div is.. When the button is clicked again, a 4th div moves in from the bottom of the screen and stops where the 3rd div is... etc creating a "stacked" divs effect? I know about position:fixed and adjusting values for top, but I am not sure how to dynamically calculate where to stop the animation to achieve this effect.

  • CSS: can change height by px, but not by %

    - by cag8f
I am trying to edit the CSS of my Wordpress theme. I have an element whose height I can successfully change from within Element Inspector, if I specify a certain pixel height, e.g. height=100px; But when I try to change the height by specifying a percentage, e.g. height=50%; the element does not change height. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong, or how to troubleshoot? None of the parent elements appear to have any height properties.
