  • Having trouble with post-commit hook

    - by John Isaacks
I am following this tutorial that is like the hello world for post-commit I am using unbuntu 10.04. I installed svnnotify and ran $ which svnnotify which output: /usr/bin/svnnotify so I changed the path in the turorial from /usr/local/bin/svnnotify to /usr/bin/svnnotify I also tried changing the line: #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash since bash is the login shell in ubuntu 10.04. I tried to run it the way the tutorial originally had it, with my changes, and combinations of the two. Everytime the commit is successful but I get Warning: post-commit hook failed (exit code 1) with no output. The original way had output not found I am very new to linux and shell scripting and have exhausted everything I can think of. What am I doing wrong?

  • Library to parse C/C++ source code

    - by John
Which library should I use to parse C/C++ source code file? I need to parse source file, calculate how much useful strings inside, how much 'for' blocks, 'if' blocks, how much comments inside. I also may need to insert a comment or small piece of code after each 'for' block. Is there any libraries? May be any library included in Microsoft Visual Studio?

  • Jquery toggle event is messing with checkbox value

    - by John McCollum
Hi all, I'm using Jquery's toggle event to do some stuff when a user clicks a checkbox, like this: $('input#myId').toggle( function(){ //do stuff }, function(){ //do other stuff } ); The problem is that the checkbox isn't being ticked when I click on the checkbox. (All the stuff I've put into the toggle event is working properly.) I've tried the following: $('input#myId').attr('checked', 'checked'); and $(this).attr('checked', 'checked'); and even simply return true; But nothing is working. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? Edit - thanks to all who replied. Dreas' answer very nearly worked for me, except for the part that checked the attribute. This works perfectly (although it's a bit hacky) $('input#myInput').change(function () { if(!$(this).hasClass("checked")) { //do stuff if the checkbox isn't checked $(this).addClass("checked"); return; } //do stuff if the checkbox isn't checked $(this).removeClass('checked'); }); Thanks again to all who replied.

  • Tool to generated rotated versions of an image

    - by John
In sprite-based systems, it's common to fake rotation of a sprite by having many different images, each showing it rotated an extra few degrees. Is there any free tool which will take a single image, and output a single image containing several rotations? It should also ideally let us control how many images are in each row. e.g if I have a 32x32 sprite and I want it rotated at 10 degree intervals, the tool might generate a 320x32 file or a 160x64 file

  • How do I temporarily change the require path in Ruby ($:)?

    - by John Feminella
I'm doing some trickery with a bunch of Rake tasks for a complex project, gradually refactoring away some of the complexity in chunks at a time. This has exposed the bizarre web of dependencies left behind by the previous project maintainer. What I'd like to be able to do is to add a specific path in the project to require's list of paths to be searched, aka $:. However, I only want that path to be searched in the context of one particular method. Right now I'm doing something like this: def foo() # Look up old paths, add new special path. paths = $: $: << special_path # Do work ... bar() baz() quux() # Reset. $:.clear $: << paths end def bar() require '...' # If called from within foo(), will also search special_path. ... end This is clearly a monstrous hack. Is there a better way?

  • problem with implementing a simple work queue

    - by John Deerikio
Hi all, I am having troubles with implementing a simple work queue. Doing some analysis, I am facing a subtle problem. The work queue is backed by a regular linked list. The code looks like this (simplified): 0. while (true) 1. while (enabled == true) 2. acquire lock on the list and get the next action to be executed (blocking operation) (store it in a local variable) 3. execute the action (outside the lock on the list on previous line) 4. get lock on this work queue 5. wait until this work queue has been notified (triggered when setEnabled(true) has been callled) The setEnabled(e) operation looks like this (simplified): enabled = e if (enabled == true) acquire lock on this work queue and do notify() Although this works, there is a condition in which a deadlock occurs. It happens in the following rare situation: while an action is being executed, setEnabled(false) is called just before step (4) is entered, setEnabled(true) is called now step (5) keeps waiting forever, because this work queue has already been notified How do I solve this? I have been looking at this for some time, but I cannot come up with a solution. Please note I am fairly new to thread synchronization. Thanks a lot.

  • Effective Data Validation

    - by John Conde
What's an effective way to handle data validation, say, from a form submission? Originally I had a bunch of if statements that checked each value and collected invalid values in an array for later retrieval (and listing). // Store errors here $errors = array(); // Hypothetical check if a string is alphanumeric if (!preg_match('/^[a-z\d]+$/i', $fieldvalue)) { $errors[$fieldname] = 'Please only use letters and numbers for your street address'; } // etc... What I did next was create a class that handles various data validation scenarios and store the results in an internal array. After data validation was complete I would check to see if any errors occurred and handle accordingly: class Validation { private $errorList = array(); public function isAlphaNumeric($string, $field, $msg = '') { if (!preg_match('/^[a-z\d]+$/i', $string)) { $this->errorList[$field] = $msg; } } // more methods here public function creditCard($cardNumber, $field, $msg = '') { // Validate credit card number } // more methods here public function hasErrors() { return count($this->errorList); } } /* Client code */ $validate = new Validation(); $validate->isAlphaNumeric($fieldvalue1, $fieldname1, 'Please only use letters and numbers for your street address'); $validate->creditCard($fieldvalue2, $fieldname2, 'Please enter a valid credit card number'); if ($validate->hasErrors()) { // Handle as appropriate } Naturally it didn't take long before this class became bloated with the virtually unlimited types of data to be validated. What I'm doing now is using decorators to separate the different types of data into their own classes and call them only when needed leaving generic validations (i.e. isAlphaNumeric()) in the base class: class Validation { private $errorList = array(); public function isAlphaNumeric($string, $field, $msg = '') { if (!preg_match('/^[a-z\d]+$/i', $string)) { $this->errorList[$field] = $msg; } } // more generic methods here public function setError($field, $msg = '') { $this->errorList[$field] = $msg; } public function hasErrors() { return count($this->errorList); } } class ValidationCreditCard { protected $validate; public function __construct(Validation $validate) { $this->validate = $validate; } public function creditCard($cardNumber, $field, $msg = '') { // Do validation // ... // if there is an error $this->validate->setError($field, $msg); } // more methods here } /* Client code */ $validate = new Validation(); $validate->isAlphaNumeric($fieldvalue, $fieldname, 'Please only use letters and numbers for your street address'); $validateCC = new ValidationCreditCard($validate); $validateCC->creditCard($fieldvalue2, $fieldname2, 'Please enter a valid credit card number'); if ($validate->hasErrors()) { // Handle as appropriate } Am I on the right track? Or did I just complicate data validation more then I needed to?

  • MySQL - Calculate the net time difference between two date-times while excluding breaks?

    - by John M
In a MySQL query I am using the timediff/time_to_sec functions to calculate the total minutes between two date-times. For example: 2010-03-23 10:00:00 - 2010-03-23 08:00:00 = 120 minutes What I would like to do is exclude any breaks that occur during the selected time range. For example: 2010-03-23 10:00:00 - 2010-03-23 08:00:00 - (break 08:55:00 to 09:10:00) = 105 minutes Is there a good method to do this without resorting to a long list of nested IF statements?

  • How to disable dragging from a Rich Edit Control

    - by John
I use a subclass of CRichEditCtrl to provide a CEdit+ type control. One thing I want is to disable drag-drop functionality, which the base class provided by default. Disabling dropping is easy: ::RevokeDragDrop(m_hWnd); But I can't see a simple way to disable the control being a drag-source. Is there an easy way?

  • Hero Class, php classes

    - by John
I am going to have different classes for a character that a user play. Like "Mage, Warrior" etc. I am thinking of a method like have some CharacterBase class (abstract?) and then I have a child class which is like WarriorClass or something like that. I think the approach is called Factory pattern or something like that. Anyone got a clue of what I'm trying to achieve here, and are there perhaps any better way to do this?

    - by John
I an working on an android project whereby i need to set my map to zoom in and show a more detailed view of my map, like the streets of where i want my coordinates to triangulate. The problem is in Mapview class, setStreetView is deprecated, wat is the alternative? This is how setStreetView looks when i use it. package com.HelloMapView; import java.util.List; import com.google.android.maps.GeoPoint; import com.google.android.maps.MapActivity; import com.google.android.maps.MapController; import com.google.android.maps.MapView; import com.google.android.maps.Overlay; import com.google.android.maps.OverlayItem; import android.app.Activity; import android.graphics.drawable.Drawable; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.LinearLayout; public class HelloMapView extends MapActivity { MapView mapview; LinearLayout linearlayout; List<Overlay> mapOverlay; Drawable drawable; HelloItemizedOverlay itemizedOverlay; @SuppressWarnings("deprecation") @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); mapview=(MapView)findViewById(R.id.mapview); mapview.setBuiltInZoomControls(true); mapview.setStreetView(true); mapOverlay=mapview.getOverlays(); drawable=this.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.androidmarker); itemizedOverlay=new HelloItemizedOverlay(drawable); GeoPoint geoPoint=new GeoPoint(19240000,-99120000); OverlayItem overlayitem=new OverlayItem(geoPoint,"",""); itemizedOverlay.addoverlay(overlayitem); mapOverlay.add(itemizedOverlay); } @Override protected boolean isRouteDisplayed() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return false; } } this does not work it only shows square boxes with no map at all

  • android widget unresponsive

    - by John
    I have a widget that you press and it then it will update the text on the widget. I have set an on click listener to launch another activity to perform the text update, But for some reason it only works temporarily and then it will become unresponsive and not do anything when pressed. Does anyone know why it might be doing that? i have posted my widget code below in case it is helpful. @Override public void onUpdate(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager,int[] appWidgetIds) { thisWidget = new ComponentName(context, MemWidget.class); Intent intent = new Intent(context, updatewidget.class); PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, intent, 0); // Get the layout for the App Widget and attach an on-click listener to the button RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.ImageButton01, pendingIntent); // Tell the AppWidgetManager to perform an update on the current App Widget appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(thisWidget, views); } @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { appWidgetManager = AppWidgetManager.getInstance(context); remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); thisWidget = new ComponentName(context, MemWidget.class); // v1.5 fix that doesn't call onDelete Action final String action = intent.getAction(); if (AppWidgetManager.ACTION_APPWIDGET_DELETED.equals(action)) { final int appWidgetId = intent.getExtras().getInt( AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID); if (appWidgetId != AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID) { this.onDeleted(context, new int[] { appWidgetId }); } } else { super.onReceive(context, intent); } }

  • C++: How would I get unix time?

    - by John D.
I need a function or way to get the UNIX epoch in seconds, much like how I can in PHP using the time function. I can't find any method except the time() in ctime which seems to only output a formatted date, or the clock() function which has seconds but seems to always be a multiple of 1 million, nothing with any resolution. I wish to measure execution time in a program, I just wanted to calculate the diff between start and end; how would a C++ programmer do this? EDIT: time() and difftime only allow resolution by seconds, not ms or anything too btw.

  • C++ - Access array (in main) from methods outside main

    - by John Smith
I have an array in my main class that holds objects that I need to print out for a menu listing. The array is declared and initialized in main. I need to, however, access the same array in a sub-menu function. If I copy the code (for loop that prints out the values) to the sub-menu, nothing is printed (presumably because it can't access the original array and has made a new, blank one). Is there any way (without making the array a global variable) that I can access the array in this sub-menu? Both the main and the sub-menu function are in the same file and the sub-menu is called from main. Maybe to put it more simply, can I use scope resolution to bring me up one 'level' in scope?

  • Can an ASP.NET user control determine its context or its parent .aspx file

    - by John Galt
Is it possible for a user control to determine its "context" or its parent .aspx page in some way? Right now I have a user control that is declared on a typical .aspx page as follows: <%@ Register TagPrefix="uc1" TagName="ManageTitle" Src="../UserControls/ManageTitle.ascx" %> The user control currently emits a textbox as follows: <asp:textbox id="txtTitle" runat="server" MaxLength="60" ToolTip="Describe the item with a short pithy title - most important keywords first"/> The page_load for this .ascx file is currently like this: Me.txtTitle.Text = SetPageTitle() While some places in this web app need this (i.e. a textbox where end-user can type a "title"), I have other places where I want to show the "title" information in a "read-only" way. For example, rather than a textbox, I could use a label control or a textbox with Enabled="false" to prevent data entry. I suppose I could clone this small .ascx file and append a suffix to its name like _RO.ascx or something but I am wondering what the best approach would be. In short, can a user control get some sort of "context" from the page that declares it or is there an altogether better way to accomplish this sort of thing? Thank you.

  • MySQL: count enumerated values?

    - by John Isaacks
If my table looks like this: daily_individual_tracking', 'CREATE TABLE `daily_individual_tracking` ( `daily_individual_tracking_id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `daily_individual_tracking_date` date NOT NULL default ''0000-00-00'', `sales` enum(''no'',''yes'') NOT NULL COMMENT ''no'', `repairs` enum(''no'',''yes'') NOT NULL COMMENT ''no'', `shipping` enum(''no'',''yes'') NOT NULL COMMENT ''no'', PRIMARY KEY (`daily_individual_tracking_id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=4 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 basically the fields can be either yes or no. How can I count how many yes's their are for each column over a date range? Thanks!!

  • Improve long mysql query

    - by John Adawan
I have a php mysql query like this $query = "SELECT * FROM articles FORCE INDEX (articleindex) WHERE category='$thiscat' and did>'$thisdid' and mid!='$thismid' and status='1' and group='$thisgroup' and pid>'$thispid' LIMIT 10"; As optimization, I've indexed all the parameters in articleindex and I use force index to force mysql to use the index, supposedly for faster processing. But it seems that this query is still quite slow and it's causing a jam and maxing out the max mysql connection limit. Let's discuss how we can improve on such long query.

  • How can I return an object into PHP userspace from my extension?

    - by John Factorial
    I have a C++ object, Graph, which contains a property named cat of type Category. I'm exposing the Graph object to PHP in an extension I'm writing in C++. As long as the Graph's methods return primitives like boolean or long, I can use the Zend RETURN_*() macros (e.g. RETURN_TRUE(); or RETURN_LONG(123);. But how can I make Graph-getCategory(); return a Category object for the PHP code to manipulate? I'm following the tutorial over at http://devzone.zend.com/article/4486, and here's the Graph code I have so far: #include "php_getgraph.h" zend_object_handlers graph_object_handlers; struct graph_object { zend_object std; Graph *graph; }; zend_class_entry *graph_ce; #define PHP_CLASSNAME "WFGraph" ZEND_BEGIN_ARG_INFO_EX(php_graph_one_arg, 0, 0, 1) ZEND_END_ARG_INFO() ZEND_BEGIN_ARG_INFO_EX(php_graph_two_args, 0, 0, 2) ZEND_END_ARG_INFO() void graph_free_storage(void *object TSRMLS_DC) { graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)object; delete obj-graph; zend_hash_destroy(obj-std.properties); FREE_HASHTABLE(obj-std.properties); efree(obj); } zend_object_value graph_create_handler(zend_class_entry *type TSRMLS_DC) { zval *tmp; zend_object_value retval; graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)emalloc(sizeof(graph_object)); memset(obj, 0, sizeof(graph_object)); obj-std.ce = type; ALLOC_HASHTABLE(obj-std.properties); zend_hash_init(obj-std.properties, 0, NULL, ZVAL_PTR_DTOR, 0); zend_hash_copy(obj-std.properties, &type-default_properties, (copy_ctor_func_t)zval_add_ref, (void*)&tmp, sizeof(zval*)); retval.handle = zend_objects_store_put(obj, NULL, graph_free_storage, NULL TSRMLS_CC); retval.handlers = &graph_object_handlers; return retval; } PHP_METHOD(Graph, __construct) { char *perspectives; int perspectives_len; Graph *graph = NULL; zval *object = getThis(); if(zend_parse_parameters(ZEND_NUM_ARGS() TSRMLS_CC, "s", &perspectives, &perspectives_len) == FAILURE) { RETURN_NULL(); } graph = new Graph(perspectives); graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)zend_object_store_get_object(object TSRMLS_CC); obj-graph = graph; } PHP_METHOD(Graph, hasCategory) { long perspectiveId; Graph *graph; graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)zend_object_store_get_object(getThis() TSRMLS_CC); graph = obj-graph; if (graph == NULL) { RETURN_NULL(); } if(zend_parse_parameters(ZEND_NUM_ARGS() TSRMLS_CC, "l", &perspectiveId) == FAILURE) { RETURN_NULL(); } RETURN_BOOL(graph-hasCategory(perspectiveId)); } PHP_METHOD(Graph, getCategory) { // what to do here?   • How to use Scanner to accept only valid int as input

    - by John
I'm trying to make a small program more robust and I need some help with that. Scanner kb = new Scanner(System.in); int num1; int num2 = 0; System.out.print("Enter number 1: "); num1 = kb.nextInt(); while(num2<num1) { System.out.print("Enter number 2: "); num2 = kb.nextInt(); } Number 2 has to be greater than number 1 Also I want the program to automatically check and ignore if the user enters a character instead of a number. Because right now when a user enters for example r instead of a number the program just exits.
