• HSQLDB Constraint Violation & SQL Query Log for an HSQLDB in-memory setup

  We have a setup where we are using an embedded HSQLDB for backing Hibernate/JPA unit tests in java, and we are using the in-memory database mode since we simply want the database thrown away after the test run. My problem is that one of the tests is failing due to a constraint violation and HSQLDB lists the column as SYS_CT_286, and the query that appears in the log is the prepared statement where I cant see what the actual parameter values are (they are replaced by '?'). My questions are: 1- Is there a way in which I can see the actual SQL being executed? (like the mysql query log for example?). 2- What exactly is SYS_CT_286? it is not one of my columns, is it a generated column? is there something obvious that may be wrong with it? Thanks.

What am I doing wrong ? I use a PostGreSQL database and a Hibernate as JPA provider.

The following query sort of works: Select f.name, max(f.version) from FeatureList f group by f.name The trouble is that won't populate the key field, which I need to contain the key of the record with the highest version number for the given FeatureList. If I add f.key in the select it won't work because it's not in the group by or an aggregate and if I put it in the group by the whole thing stops working and it just gives me every version as a separate entity. So, can anybody help?

  Users will get to my site using a specific parameter, e.g. : http://www.mysite.com/whatever/?keepTrackOfThisValue=foo or http://www.mysite.com/who/cares/?keepTrackOfThisValue=bar I would like to store the value of this peculiar parameter in Session everytime I found it in the QueryString. I'm currently using the Session_Start event in Global.asax in order to store this but I would like to override the value each time the parameter value change, which is not possible my way. Where would you do this ?

  I am running multiple Grails Applications on one of my servers. I am using Grails 1.2.2. I am using the default cache configuration in DataSource.groovy. When I try and run two Grails applications, they both seem to be using/writing to: /tmp/org.hibernate.cache.UpdateTimestampsCache.data When I look at how to customize Ehcache with an ehcache.xml file from this page: http://ehcache.org/documentation/grails.html I do not see any information about specifying the locations and/or names or temporary files. How do I avoid this issue when running multiple Grails applications on the same server (without turning off the cache)?

• schema for storing different varchar fields over time?

  This app I'm working on needs to store some meta data fields about an entity. The problem is that we can already foresee that these fields are going to change a lot in the future. I'm using Hibernate (in ColdFusion) and each entity's properties are translated to one column in the entity table, but altering table columns later down the raod will be costly and error-prone right? Should I go for something like this? MetaDataField ----- metaDataFieldID (PK), name FieldValue ---------- EntityID (PK, FK), metaDataFieldID (PK, FK), value [varchar(255)] Is this common? Anything to watch out for? p.s. I also thought of using XML on SQL Server 05+. After talking to some ppl, seems like it is not a viable solution 'cause it will be too slow for doing certain query for reporting purposes.

• Is it a good idea to "migrate business logic code into our domain model"?

  I am reading Hibernate in Action and the author suggests to move business logic into our domain models (p. 306). For instance, in the example presented by the book, we have three entities named Item, Bid, and User and the author suggests to add a placeBid(User bidder, BigDecimal amount) method to the Item class. Considering that usually we have a distinct layer for business logic (e.g. Manager or Service classes in Spring) that among other things control transactions, etc. is this really a good advice? Isn't it better not to add business logic methods to our entities? Thanks in advance.

Facet version for Enterprise Application project IntegrationEARProject must be 5.0 to contain Java EE 5.0 project lib //{path to file}/hibernate/R3_3_1/jars/javassist-3.4.GA.jar. Currently the Project Facets are set as folows: EAR version is 1.4 Websphere version is 6.1 Please note that we do not have any of the feature packs installed currently and I do not have the option to install the feature packs. Is there anything that can be done to get around this issue? I am coding using java 1.5. Thank you very much.

  I'm attempting to log a user out of facebook with the Facebook JS SDK, however calling: FB.logout(function(response){ console.log(response); }); returns: response.status == "connected" And only after refreshing the page does the SDK realize that the session has ended. Now, when I log a user in, I run session_register("user"); but I don't really understand what I'm up to. Does that session variable contain any identifiable information, so that I for example can get it out via $_SESSION["user"] or will I have to store the username in a separate variable? Thanks.
