Which technology is better to use in terms of performance for high performance scalable web application? PHP or Python?
The project is going to involve database.
I'm running OS X Leopard. I followed this site to install it. Trying to run any demo script, I now get "No module named opencv.cv", which is obviously stopping me from doing any programming. I am running python 2.5.1 (yes, I know it's kind of old).
Why would this be, and how can I solve it?
Thanks

What's the best way to sanitise user input for a Python-based web application? Is there a single function to remove HTML characters and any other necessary characters combinations to ensure that an XSS or SQL injection attack isn't possible?
In python if a string contains the following,
print valid_str
The output of this is
Record is positive in tone:
It emphasizes "what a child can do and his or her achievements, as opposed to what he or she cannot do," explains the It is useful for progress and achievements during office conferences
How to search for the pattern It is useful in the above string and if not found return something.
Thanks..

In all other languages I've worked with the super constructor is invoked implicitly. How does one invoke it in Python? I would expect super(self) but this doesn't work
I have a database that holds a time as UTC. This time can be shown in a webpage, so I’ve been asked to show it as local time in the page as it can be viewed from any country. A colleague mentioned something about getting the country settings from the current thread but I couldn’t find any details on this. Is what I want to do possible?
I want to run a cmd exe using a python script.
I have the following code:
def run_command(command):
p = subprocess.Popen(command, shell=True,
stdout=subprocess.PIPE,
stderr=subprocess.STDOUT)
return p.communicate()
then i use:
run_command(r"C:\Users\user\Desktop\application\uploader.exe")
this returns the option menu where i need to specify additional parameter for the cmd exe to run. So i pass additional parameters for the cmd exe to run.
How do i accomplish this. I've looked at subprocess.communicate but i was unable to understand it
I need to be able to block the urls that are stored in a text file on the hard disk using Python. If the url the user tries to visit is in the file, it redirects them to another page instead. How is this done?
I'm running a python program. When it get's to these lines:

I am looking to setup a automated screen scraper that will run on Google app engine using python. I want it to scrape the site and put the specified results into a Entity in app engine. I am looking for some directions on what to use. I have seen beautifulsoup but wonder if people could recommend anything else that could run on Google App engine.
Hi folks,
I'm serving a Django app behind IIS 6. I'm wondering if I can restart IIS 6 within Python/Django and what one of the best ways to do would be.
Help would be great!
I have column called "Date Submitted" as Date/time in one of the Custom list in sharepoint 2007.
it always set to today's date and 12AM time instead of that I want to display today's date with current time hh:mm:ss.
I tried creating calculated column TestDate and formula is : =TEXT(([Date Submitted]),"mm dd yyyy h:MM:SS")
result is 04 28 2010 0:00:00 I wanted to be 04/28/2010 10:50:34
Is it possible to achive this?
Thank you
kanta
I'm new in python and I'm having some issues doing a simple thing.
I've an array (or list as it's said in pyton) like this:
list = [ 'NICE dog' , 'blue FLOWER' , 'GOOD cat' , 'YELLOW caw']
As you see each element of this array contains some words. These words is both lowercase and uppercase.
How I can delete from this array each lowercase words?
For example I'd like to have as result this list:
list = [ 'NICE' , 'FLOWER' , 'GOOD' , 'YELLOW']
I want to break a Python string into its characters.
sequenceOfAlphabets = list( string.uppercase )
works.
However, why does not
sequenceOfAlphabets = re.split( '.', string.uppercase )
work?
All I get are empty, albeit expected count of elements
I'm trying to work with sockets and I have such problem
In code example:
setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET,IN.SO_BINDTODEVICE,self.listen_address+'\0')
I have error
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'SO_BINDTODEVICE'
On Linux machine this attribute is OK but on FreeBSD trere are no any SO_* attributes in module IN. What port should I install to resolve this problem on FreeBDS machine?
Python versions on Linux tested:
2.5.4 and 2.6.4;
on FreeBSD:
2.5.5
I can't find anything about this module in my book, and googling keyword IN looks like seamless ...
I'm writing a shell for a project of mine, which by design parses commands that looks like this:
COMMAND_NAME ARG1="Long Value" ARG2=123 [email protected]
My problem is that Python's command line parsing libraries (getopt and optparse) forces me to use '-' or '--' in front of the arguments. This behavior doesn't match my requirements.
Any ideas how can this be solved? Any existing library for this?
I am using Python with PLY to parse LISP-like S-Expressions and when parsing a function call there can be zero or more arguments. How can I put this into the yacc code. This is my function so far:
def p_EXPR(p):
'''EXPR : NUMBER
| STRING
| LPAREN funcname [EXPR] RPAREN'''
if len(p) == 2:
p[0] = p[1]
else:
p[0] = ("Call", p[2], p[3:-1])
I need to replace "[EXPR]" with something that allows zero or more EXPR's. How can I do this?
