• Getting PATH right for python after MacPorts install

  I can't import some python libraries (PIL, psycopg2) that I just installed with MacPorts. I looked through these forums, and tried to adjust my PATH variable in $HOME/.bash_profile in order to fix this but it did not work. I added the location of PIL and psycopg2 to PATH. I know that Terminal is a version of python in /usr/local/bin, rather than the one installed by MacPorts at /opt/local/bin. Do I need to use the MacPorts version of Python in order to ensure that PIL and psycopg2 are on sys.path when I use python in Terminal? Should I switch to the MacPorts version of Python, or will that cause more problems? If I run dpkg-reconfigure -plow gitolite I am presented with a dialog and can modify: the system user name for gitolite, the location of the gitolite repositories and provide the admin pubkey. I'd prefer to use the git system user and provide the admin pubkey on installation, say something of the sort: # aptitude install gitolite --user git --admin-pubkey 'ssh-rsa AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAADAQABAAACAQDAc7kCAi2WkvqpAL1fK1sIw6xjpatJ+Ms2nrwLJPhdovEY3MPZF7mtH+rv1CHFDn66fLGiWevOFp...' That, of course, doesn't work. Can something similar be done? How do I determine the configuration parameters ahead of time? This would be remarkably useful, for instance, when installing gitolite automatically, via puppet or chef.

• Using GitOAuthPlugin for Jenkins - not working as expected

  I need some clarity and maybe a fix. I'm using this plugin to authorise who views our Jenkins ci server: https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Github+OAuth+Plugin As I understand it anyone who is auth'd to view one of our github project's can also login to our Jenkins box. This works I thought it would also allow the person logging in to only view the Project that they have GitHub permission on. For instance. Three projects on GitHub (A,B,C). Three builds on Jenkins. User 1 has Git access to all 3 projects (A B C). User 2 has Git access to only 1 project (A). When logging into Jenkins: User 1 can see all 3 projects ( this works ) User 2 can only see project A The problem is User 2 can also see all 3 projects when they should only see 1! Have I got this correct, and if so is this a bug? I have the settings set in Jenkins configuration Github Authorization Settings. Here we have some admin users. One organization. And none out of the 4 checkboxes ticked. (User 2, is not an admin, is not part of the org). The plugin is open sourced here: https://github.com/mocleiri/github-oauth-plugin I was trying to get Jenkins to print me the Logs from the plugin but I also failed at viewing these (to see if there was an issue). • MediaWiki Math Extension Out of Sync

  I am trying to run MediaWiki 1.19.2 on Ubuntu Linux (3.0.0-26-generic #42-Ubuntu AMD 64). It installs fine via tar.gz, however, I run into problems when trying to install the Math extension (via git clone from its repository). I get the following error in the Apache logs: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined method FSFileBackend::getRootStoragePath() in /var/www/abc.com/html/mediawiki-1.19.2/extensions/Math/Math.body.php on line 361, referer: http://intra.abc.com/wiki/index.php?title=Quality&action=submit so apparently, the latest Math extension is out-of-sync with MediaWiki 1.19.2; the latest Math extension is apparently using post-1.19.2 methods. I tried looking through the git logs for some indication (a tag, perhaps?) of which revision of Math worked with 1.19.2, but no luck. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. • Tell VLC where to look for plugins.dat file

  I am trying to build vlc from source (I will include installation script below), but when I try to run vlc I get the following error main libvlc warning: cannot read /home/user/downloads/vlc3/vlc/src/.libs/vlc/plugins/plugins.dat (No such file or directory) Why is it even looking in that non existant directory? The plugins.dat file is in /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/. I tried export VLC_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib/vlc/plugins/ But it still looks in that non existent path. I can create a symbolic link, but that is a terrible way to do it. If in 6 months I delete my downloads folder, all of a sudden my vlc will break. • Why is Xampp unable to start Apache?

  I formatted my computer a week ago. Installed wampp on Windows XP, git and everything I needed. When I run git for the first time it told me it had a problem with my user folder (because of the accents) so I created a new user and migrated everything to the new one. After this, wampp wouldn't start anymore. I uninstalled it and installed xampp which is what I'm using now. My problem is that even though I requesed xampp to install Apache as a service it isn't installed. It doesn't show in Windows' services screen. Xampp control panel shows mysql service running OK. When I click to install Apache as a service it returns no error. When I click Start Apache no error is outputed. No file and no errors under c:/xampp/apache/log/ If I restart my computer it says that Apache service is not installed. I tried to reinstall wampp and the same problem occurs. If I run netstat -a -no nothing is running on port 80! What can I do?

  I've recently started using Windows (having used Ubuntu up until now) and I find myself unable to properly set environment variables. Whenever I set them they don't seem to work. I've been going to Start-Edit Environment Variables for your Account and editing the PATH value in the upper half of the GUI. Here's what I've got so far. ;C:\Chocolatey\bin;C:\tools\mysql\current\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\bin;C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin\;C:\Python33\Scripts; These are each the parent directories of the executables I'd like to be able to run by name from CMD, but mysql, git, and pip aren't being recognized. Am I doing something wrong syntactically or at a general understanding level? I'd like to be able to run these commands without having to specify the full path to the executables every time. • Setup staging with multiple SVN

  We are a startup, setting new environments for product to be released soon. Planned server structure with planned release flow is as shown in below image It ideally have a local server (or Staging server, shown in green) in local office, without public IP address and Production Server (Red) at Amazon EC2. Both local and production server have there own SVN copy. Management here want to update production server with production SVN and without providing its access to developers (including freelancers/contract employees). So for developers, there is a Local SVN on local server. Another purpose of local SVN to keep a copy of code on local server, which is under our direct control. Although there are some technical concerns like how will code at local server will be updated from local SVN and commit on production SVN but bigger question is, is that structure correct? Major requirement remain don't provide production SVN access to developers. What are other possible options to achieve that? Another minor question, if suitable here, if above structure is correct, is it possible for a SVN checkout to get updated from one SVN (Local SVN) but commit to other (Production SVN)? If yes, How? edit An answer has been accepted but for bounty, I'm still looking for answer Is that structure correct? Its pros/Cons? Technical solution is already provided by accepted answer.

• Shared files folder in Amazon Elastic Beanstalk environment

  I'm working on a Drupal application, which is planned to be hosted in Amazon Elastic Beanstalk environment. Basically, Elastic Beanstalk enables the application to scale automatically by starting additional web server instances based on predefined rules. The shared database is running on an Amazon RDS instance, which all instances can access properly. The problem is the shared files folder (sites/default/files). We're using git as SCM, and with it we're able to deploy new versions by executing $ git aws.push. In the background Elastic Beanstalk automatically deletes ($ rm -rf) the current codebase from all servers running in the environment, and deploys the new version. The plan was to use S3 (s3fs) for shared files in the staging environment, and NFS in the production environment. We've managed to set up the environment to the extent where the shared files folder is mounted after a reboot properly. But... The Problem is that, in this setup, the deployment of new versions on running instances fail because $ rm -rf can't remove the mounted directory, and as result, the entire environment goes down and we need restart the environment, which isn't really an elegant solution. Question #1 is that what would be the proper way to manage shared files in this kind of deployment? Are you running such an environment? How did you solve the problem? By looking at Elastic Beanstalk Hostmanager code (Ruby) there seems be a way to hook our functionality (unmount if mounted in pre-deploy and mount in post-deploy) into Hostmanager (/opt/hostmanager/srv/lib/elasticbeanstalk/hostmanager/applications/phpapplication.rb) but the scripts defined in the file (i.e. /tmp/php_post_deploy_app.sh) don't seem to be working. That might be because our Ruby skills are non-existent. Question #2 is that did you manage to hook your functionality in Hostmanager in a portable way (i.e. by not changing the core Hostmanager files)?

• Is there any way to synchronize Outlook RSS Feeds with BlackBerry?

  Does anyone know how I can view the contents of my Outlook 2007 RSS Feeds from a corporate-issued BlackBerry? Our Inbox and Calendar are already integrated with corporate exchange servers but it looks like nobody cares too much about the RSS Feeds. Is there some setting on my Blackberry or in Outlook I could possibly tweak to include these updates? I know there are many standalone RSS readers available for blackberry (Google Reader for example) but I mention Outlook RSS Feeds specifically in my question because I am subscribing to a number of RSS feeds I've setup on my intranet for various version control systems that would be inaccessible to an external RSS reader. It seems like I might have to setup some sort of email commit notifications if I want anything from my blackberry but I much prefer the 'pull' method of an RSS feed viewer over receiving streams of emails. Please feel free to suggest any alternatives! Edit: I've additionally tried moving my "SVN Repository" folder directly into my Mailbox instead of keeping it as a child of the RSS Feeds folder. This allows me to view the SVN Repository folder on my blackberry where previously the RSS Feeds folder and all children were hidden but unfortunately it never seems to get populated with the items that are displaying in Outlook. I've even made a fresh commit to make sure that the SVN Repository folder still works correctly in Outlook from outside the RSS Feeds folder but no luck on the BlackBerry end of things.   I have a Centos server acting as a NAT in my network. This server has one external (later ext1) interface and three internal (later int1, int2 and int3). Egress traffic comes from users via int1 and after MASQUERADE goes via ext1. Packet counters are not changing on MASQUERADE rule in POSTROUTING. • SVN, Samba and Symbolic Links. How to get them all to play together?

  I've got a website project under version control that relies on files from an unversioned directory on the same server via Symbolic Links. I'm currently storing the symbolic links in the repository. The idea is that if someone checks out a working copy on to the same server they can edit and test the working copy of the project before committing it back to the repository. When they checkout their working copy it successfully sets up the symlinks so that the entire site works when testing. The users that work on the project are Windows users, so I've set a samba shares on the server and then mapped them to network drives in Windows. People can edit their working copies directly on the server via network shares and then test them in the web browser before committing their changes back to the repository via TortoiseSVN. The Problem The problem I have is that Samba resolves the symlinks as expected but when a user tries to commit their changes back to the repository, TortoiseSVN thinks the linked files are part of the project and tries to commit the target files to the repository and not the symlinks themselves. I tried turning off symlink support in samba which means that the linked files cannot be resolved as I don't really want people to have access to the linked files nor do I want to import the linked files in the repository. The problem with this is that I get Can't stat '\webserver\projects\working\project\symlinked_file.php'. Access is denied Apart from the symlink problem everything else works 100% perfectly. Users can either checkout website projects to their machine and work on them (but can't test) or checkout them out to their space on the dev web server and work on them and fully test. So I don't want to change the workflow process, I just need a solution to the symbolic link issue. Many thanks. • Need a recommendation for shared storage on auto-scaling ec2 w/ scalr

  I have come across so many answers to this question that I am completely lost! I am moving our 2 sites to a load balanced ec2 system with scalr as our cloud manager. Now the question is coming up about persistent storage for the user's uploaded content and other files. Could someone please give me a suggestion and possible a link to a tutorial for the following setup and goals. 2 websites (1 Forum, 1 ecommerce). 1 LB 1 App server (to scale out to as many as needed) 1 DB server (to scale out to as many as needed) Our sites will need to autoscale and according to what I am learning about scalr, that means as new instances load up, I need to run a script to set the basics up on that server (git,php mods, pull site from git, move keys, etc) What I don't understand is how should I handle user uploaded content like profile pictures, avatars, product images, themes, etc... Do I mount an EBS or s3fs folder to hold the websites (maybe /var/www/websitefolder) or do I do something like mount the avatar folders /var/www/websitefolder/images/avatars) I am not sure where to go with this. Could someone give me some detailed help? -John

• Mechanism behind user forwarding in ScriptAliasMatch

  I am following this tutorial to setup gitolite and at some point the following ScriptAliasMatch is used: ScriptAliasMatch \ "(?x)^/(.*/(HEAD | \ info/refs | \ objects/(info/[^/]+ | \ [0-9a-f]{2}/[0-9a-f]{38} | \ pack/pack-[0-9a-f]{40}\.(pack|idx)) | \ git-(upload|receive)-pack))$" \ /var/www/bin/gitolite-suexec-wrapper.sh/$1 And the target script starts with USER=$1 So I am guessing this is used to forward the user name from apache to the suexec script (which indeed requires it). But I cannot see how this is done. The ScriptAliasMatch documentation makes me think that the /$1 will be replaced by the first matching group of the regexp before it. For me it captures from (?x)^/(.* to ))$ so there is nothing about a user here. My underlying problem is that USER is empty in my script so I get no authorizations in gitolite. I give my username to apache via a basic authentication: <Location /> # Crowd auth AuthType Basic AuthName "Git repositories" ... Require valid-user </Location> defined just under the previous ScriptAliasMatch. So I am really wondering how this is supposed to work and what part of the mechanism I missed so that I don't retrieve the user in my script.
