  • wxpython - Running threads sequentially without blocking GUI

    I've got a GUI script with all my wxPython code in it, and a separate testSequences module that has a bunch of tasks that I run based on input from the GUI. The tasks take a long time to complete (from 20 seconds to 3 minutes), so I want to thread them, otherwise the GUI locks up while they're running. I also need them to run one after another, since they all use the same hardware. (My rationale behind threading is simply to prevent the GUI from locking up.) I'd like to have a "Running" message (with varying number of periods after it, i.e. "Running", "Running.", "Running..", etc.) so the user knows that progress is occurring, even though it isn't visible. I'd like this script to run the test sequences in separate threads, but sequentially, so that the second thread won't be created and run until the first is complete. Since this is kind of the opposite of the purpose of threads, I can't really find any information on how to do this... Any help would be greatly appreciated.     Hello I must create a custom media player within the application with support for mp3 and wav files. I read in the documentation i cant seek or get the media file duration without a custom datasoruce. I checked the demo in the JDE 4.6 but i have still problems... I cant get the duration, it return much more then the expected so i`m sure i screwed up something while i modified the code to read the mp3 file locally from the filesystem. Somebody can help me what i did wrong ? (I can hear the mp3, so the player plays it correctly from start to end) I must support OSs = 4.6.     I'm trying to deploy a Web Part Feature as part of solution. Solution being add to the store and feature being added successfully. Full trust enabled in Web.Config for bin deployment of the .DLL but Web Part not working when page viewed by a non-admin user... So, decided to deploy to GAC but discovered that gacutil.exe is not included with the OS? The only place I can find it is in the Windows SDK with a download size of over 22GB! I know I can choose to download only certain components, but which ones should I select and are there any dependencies? Better yet, is there an easier way to get a copy of the gacutil.exe tool?

    I can not enable my Windows SmartScreen on Windows 8.1 My PC is not joined to any domain. I'm not talking about SmartScreen feature available in IE but the feature that is available in File Explorer. Control Panel Action Center Change Windows SmartScreen settings I searched in group policy but couldn't find anything that is preventing me from enabling it. Update 1: My user is a member of administrators group. Other things work fine. When I try to change something that needs administrative permission, UAC window appears, but nothing here.

  • How to sysprep SQL Server Express?

    We plan to deploy Hyper-V VHD with Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 Express installed to multiple hosts. From my understanding, the correct way to do this is to install SQL Server in prepartion mode, sysprep Windows, then complete SQL Server installation when the VHD is deployed. I mostly followed the process in this blog post: http://sethusrinivasan.com/category/sysprep/ However, after the VHD is deployed, I'm unable to complete the SQL Server installation. It keeps saying "Upgrade matrix is incorrect". It seems that it's trying to upgrade itself to Enterprise edition (I was asked for product key during install, but I skipped it). Could anyone share their experience in deploying VHDs with SQL Server (we're fine with either SQL Server 2008 R2 or 2012)? I think the source of my issue is because I can't select "Express Edition" when entering the product key at the completion stage, so the installation is trying to do an upgrade to Enterprise Edition. I have no idea why the drop down list is empty.

  • What is the difference between Anycast and GeoDNS / GeoIP wrt HA?

    Based on the Wikipedia description of Anycast, it includes both the distribution of a domain-name-to-many-IP-mapping across many DNS servers as well as replying to clients with the most geographically close (or fastest) server. In the context of a globally distributed, highly available site like google.com (or any CDN service with many global edge locations) this sounds like the two key features one would need. DNS services like Amazon's Route53, EasyDNS and DNSMadeEasy all advertise themselves as Anycast-enabled networks. Therefore my assumption is that each of these DNS services transparently offer me those two killer features: multi-IP-to-domain mapping AND routing clients to the closest node. However, each of these services seem to separate out these two functionalities, referring to the 2nd one (routing clients to closest node) as "GeoDNS", "GeoIP" or "Global Traffic Director" and charge extra for the service. If a core tenant of an Anycast-capable system is to already do this, why is this functionality being earmarked as this extra feature? What is this "GeoDNS" feature doing that a standard Anycast DNS service won't do (according to the definition of Anycast from Wikipedia -- I understand what is being advertised, just not why it isn't implied already). I get extra-confused when a DNS service like Route53 that doesn't support this nebulous "GeoDNS" feature lists functionality like: Fast – Using a global anycast network of DNS servers around the world, Route 53 is designed to automatically route your users to the optimal location depending on network conditions. As a result, the service offers low query latency for your end users, as well as low update latency for your DNS record management needs. ... which sounds exactly like what GeoDNS is intended to do, but geographically directing clients is something they explicitly don't support it yet. Ultimately I am looking for the two following features from a DNS provider: Map multiple IP addresses to a single domain name (like google.com, amazon.com, etc. does) Utilize a DNS service that will respond to client requests for that domain with the IP address of the nearest server to the requestee. As mentioned, it seems like this is all part of an "Anycast" DNS service (all of which these services are), but the features and marketing I see from them suggest otherwise, making me think I need to learn a bit more about how DNS works before making a deployment choice.     I currently have two ubuntu servers running Heartbeat and DRBD. The servers are directory connected with a 1000Mbps crossover cable on eth1 and have access to an IP camera LAN on eth0. Now, let's say that one node is down and the remaining functional node is booting after having been shut down. The node that is still functioning won't start up heartbeat and provide access to the drbd resource from a cold boot. I have to manually restart heartbeat by sudo service heartbeat restart to get everything up and running. How can I get it to start fine from a cold start, when only one server is present?   • Can I flash a PCI-E device's Firmware in a VM if the VM has exclusive IOMMU access?

    I have a PCI-E Dell Perc 6/i RAID card that I'd like to flash with the latest firmware. Apparently I need either a Redhat / Centos OS or Windows in order to flash the firmware, but I have a VMWare 5.0.1 ESX hypervisor installed on the box and a CentOS guest OS. My motherboard support IOMMU and I have successfully used VMWare's PCI Passthrough feature to give VMs exclusive access to a PCI-E device. Is it safe to flash the firmware of a PCI-E device if that device is passed through to a single VM using the passthrough feature of VMware? Or should I boot one of the supported OSes directly on the bare metal?

    Does anyone know of a user-hosted blog which can be an alternative to WordPress only, it should only have the bare necessities of a blog. I'll just take it from there. It should only have the following: Admin Account (for posting, editing, etc) Archive System Posting System with character limitation (For the Read More links.) Accept Comments from other users (only requires the user's name and email and / or website, then the actual comment). Pages (Allows me to create pages for custom content.) The reason I want this is because WordPress is already too bloated up that there are a ton of features that I don't need. I'd mostly be satisfied with a blogging system that has the above feature-set and I'll just work my way to add my own feature as I require it along the way.

  • Brightness keeps changing in Windows 8.1 (on Macbook Pro Retina)

    Before anyone gets too excited, it's not the "Adaptive Brightness" feature of the OS. I've already turned that off. Also it seems to have nothing to do with ambient light. It actually seems to do with the average "color" of the display. If I'm working in dark-themed Visual Studio, the brightness "pops" brighter. When I switch to the browser, it "pops" darker. So it's kind of adaptive brightness based on average pixel color (or something like that). What makes it rather annoying is that the brightness pops, rather than transitioning gradually. What is this feature, and how do I disable it (or at least make it smoother)?

    I have just switched from Outlook to Thunderbird and one feature that I am missing is when I would click a folder it would open a message in the message pane automatically. Now it is always blank. I have it set to remember the last one opened so if I switch back and forth it is there, but if I just click a folder the first time that I invoke it the message pane is blank. The reason I upgraded to 3.0 is because I saw this behavior in 2.0 and thought it would be fixed. I remember setting something in 2.0 that allowed this feature. Is there a way I can downgrade back to 2.0?

  • Windows Live Family Safety Service keeps closing Start Menu

    Got my kids a new Toshiba Laptop for Christmas. I was setting it all up for them so it would be ready to go. Tonight I installed Windows Live Family Safety Parental Controls. In the process of testing I discovered that on all the accounts the Start Menu closes automatically within 3 seconds (or less) of opening. It seems that it happens every 3 seconds, so sometimes it is immediate, and if I open it again then it will stay open for a full 3 seconds. This of course is rather annoying, and I need to wrap it up so it is ready to go under the tree. I disabled the Windows Live Family Safety Service, and that fixed it. Enable it again and the behavior returns. Is this a feature of the service? Can I disable that feature and keep the other features?

  • bash completion with aliases

    I have a bunch of bash completion scripts set up (mostly using bash-it and some manually setup). I also have a bunch of aliases setup for common tasks like gco for git checkout. Right now I can type git checkout d tab and develop is completed for me but when I type gco d tab it does not complete. I'm assuming this is because the completion script is completing on git and it fails to see gco. Is there a way to generically/programmatically get all of my completion scripts to work with my aliases? Not being able to complete when using the alias kind of defeats the purpose of the alias.

  • Lack of Virtual Memory - confusion

    Specs ahead of time: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 2.00 GHz / 1 GB PC-3200 DDR RAM / 160 GB IDE HDD / 128 MB GeForce 6200 AGP / FIC AM37 / 350W PSU / Windows XP Pro SP3 So, XP has pop-ups saying that I am low on virtual memory. However, I have a program called SmartRAM (part of Advanced SystemCare by IObit) and it displays CPU & Page File Usage and Free Physical and Virtual Memory. That program shows that I have at least 2000 MB free virtual memory on my machine when the XP pop-ups say that I'm low on virtual memory. First off, would a complete lack of virtual memory cause my computer to freeze? Secondly, how can I solve this lack of virtual memory? (A complete reformat is possible but can't be done immediately...) Thanks in advance.

I recently received the following error: The backup did not complete successfully. An error occurred. The following information might help you resolve the error: There is not enough space to save the backup files. Free up disk space or change your backup settings. (0x81000005) I don't see anything in the settings for the backup to change this. Do I have to mount the backup to delete an old backup? If so where is that file located?
