  • How to "demote" all titles and headings in Word 2010?

    I built a large help document for an application I wrote. I used all the default styles in Word 2010, including "Title", "Heading 1", "Heading 2", etc. Sadly, when I generated the Table of Contents, Titles were not included. I'm also now using chmProcessor to automatically generate a website from the document, and it's not including Titles in its Table of Contents either. I'd like to make all Titles into Heading 1s, all Heading 1s into Heading 2s, and Heading 2s into Heading 3s, etc. Is this possible without a huge manual effort? (I'm sure there's a better word than "demote" for this.)

    hopefully the question doesn't sound stupid, but there are lots of examples out there of achieving certain things in javascript/dom using jQuery. Using jQuery is not always an option (or even a want) which can make understanding the examples of javascript solutions written in jQuery hard. Is there an easy way to convert jQuery code to regular javascript? I guess without having to access or understand the jQuery source code... edit (future readers): pretend there is a logical reason why jQuery isn't available!

  • Display two images side by side on an HTML Page

    I am trying to place two images of the same size side-by-side. If I use a "table" then I am able to display both images side-by-side. But in my CSS Stylesheet I am using a custom format for the table and this shows on the page containing the images too. But I want to just display both images without any custom background or border etc. I tried using "div", "span", "ul" & "li" etc. but failed in each case. How can I place two images (of same size) in a single line, without using a "table"? If I have to use "table" for the same, then how can I use two (or more) different formatting for my tables using CSS? Thank you. Lalit Kumar Barik

    Hi All, I have a html table and I am trying to have it span the entire page height. For some reason I am not able to get this to work. I have set the html, body and table height to be 100%, but the table still does not occupy the entire 100%. Heres the code. The mybb_userfields is the table that contain custom profile field data that they are able to customize & change in their profile. Now, all I want to do is display all users in rows with the custom profile field data that they provided in their profile(which is in the mybb_userfields table) How can I display these fields correctly together? For instance, p0gz is a male,lives in AZ,he owns a 360,does not know his bandwidth & Flip Side Phoenix is his team. How can it just be like "p0gz-male-az-360-dont know-flipside phoenix" in a row~???

  • Development Approach: User Interface In or Domain Model Out?

    While I've never delivered anything using Smalltalk, my brief time playing with it has definitely left its mark. The only way to describe the experience is MVC the way it was meant to be. Essentially, all the heavy lifting for your application is done in the business objects (or domain model if you are so inclined). The standard controls are bound to the business objects in some way. For example, a text box is mapped to an object's field (the field itself is an object so it's easy to do). A button would mapped to a method. This is all done with a very simple and natural API. We don't have to think about binding objects, etc. It just works. Yet, in many newer languages and APIs you are forced to think from the outside in. First with C++ and MFC, and now with C# and WPF, Microsoft has gotten it's developer world hooked on GUI builders where you build your application by implementing event handlers. Java Swing development isn't so different, only you are writing the code to instantiate the controls on the form yourself. For some projects, there may never even be a domain model--just event handlers. I've been in and around this model for most of my carreer. Each way forces you to think differently. With the Smalltalk approach, your domain is smart while your GUI is dumb. With the default VisualStudio approach, your GUI is smart while your domain model (if it exists) is rather anemic. Many developers that I work with see value in the Smalltalk approach, and try to shoehorn that approach into the VisualStudio environment. WPF has some dynamic binding features that makes it possible; but there are limitations. Inevitably some code that belongs in the domain model ends up in the GUI classes. So, which way do you design/develop your code? Why? GUI first. User interaction is paramount. Domain first. I need to make sure the system is correct before we put a UI on it. There's pros and cons for either approach. Domain model fits in there with crystal cathedrals and pie in the sky. GUI fits in there with quick and dirty (sometimes really dirty). And for an added bonus: How do you make sure the code is maintainable?

  • Synchronizing Mysql Table Schema [on hold]

    I have some difficulty keeping track of my SQL changes in a text file in SVN. One solution that I am aware of is to put the SQL queries in files (1.sql, 2.sql...) and to manually load each file at the proper time. Besides missing commas, the process is too cumbersome when builds become more frequent. I have actually taken to asking a co-worker to send me his SQL changes on Skype and we just apply the changes immediately on our local, development, and production servers (using three PhpMyAdmin tabs). I have seen several GUI tools mentioned in similar questions on SO, but these are actually more work and less automated than the aforementioned methods. Is there any standardized process by which this is done in an automated way? I can only guess that large companies build their own mechanisms of keeping track of database schema changes (yet I can't find a word about it - maybe they use files?). This question was closed as off-topic on Stack Overflow, so I am re-posting it here.

Month | Product | SUM of Amount | AVG of Interval in sec -------------------------------------------------------- 05-'12| Prod A | 13 | 5 05-'12| Prod B | 4 | 5 05-'12| Prod C | 18 | 5 So far So good... Now i want to add and extra column to my Pivot table with gives me the outcome of SUM of Amount / AVG of Interval in sec Adding a calculated value =SUM(Amount)/AVERAGE(Interval) is not giving me the right values. Exel gives me. Month | Product | SUM of Amount | AVG of Interval in sec | Amount per sec ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 05-'12| Prod A | 13 | 5 | 1.3 05-'12| Prod B | 4 | 5 | 0.8 05-'12| Prod C | 18 | 5 | 1.8 What it actually is doing is =SUM(Amount)/SUM(Interval in sec) for every Month and Product based on the values in the first table... For me the simples way to do that is to use a table: <table> <tr> <td> Content of the first column. </td> <td> Content of the second column. </td> </tr> </table> I like this solution because, first of all, it works (it gives exactly what I want), it is also really simple and stable (I will always have two columns, no matter how big is my window). It is easy to control the size and position of the table. However, I know that people do not like the table-layout and, as far as I know, they use div and css instead. So, I would like also to try this approach. Can anybody help me with that? I would like to have a simple solution (without tricks) that is easy to remember. It also needs to be stable (so that it will not accidentally happen that one column is under another one or they overlap or something like that).
