  • What's the most concise cross-browser way to access an <iframe> element's window and document?

    - by Bungle
    I'm trying to figure out the best way to access an <iframe> element's window and document properties from a parent page. The <iframe> may be created via JavaScript or accessed via a reference stored in an object property or a variable, so, if I understand correctly, that rules out the use of document.frames. I've seen this done a number of ways, but I'm unsure about the best approach. Given an <iframe> created in this way: var iframe = document.createElement('iframe'); document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(iframe); I'm currently using this to access the document, and it seems to work OK across the major browsers: var doc = iframe.contentWindow || iframe.contentDocument; if (doc.document) { doc = doc.document; } I've also see this approach: var iframe = document.getElementById('my_iframe'); iframe = (iframe.contentWindow) ? iframe.contentWindow : (iframe.contentDocument.document) ? iframe.contentDocument.document : iframe.contentDocument; iframe.document.open(); iframe.document.write('Hello World!'); iframe.document.close(); That confuses me, since it seems that if iframe.contentDocument.document is defined, you're going to end up trying to access iframe.contentDocument.document.document. There's also this: var frame_ref = document.getElementsByTagName('iframe')[0]; var iframe_doc = frame_ref.contentWindow ? frame_ref.contentWindow.document : frame_ref.contentDocument; In the end, I guess I'm confused as to which properties hold which properties, whether contentDocument is equivalent to document or whether there is such a property as contentDocument.document, etc. Can anyone point me to an accurate/timely reference on these properties, or give a quick briefing on how to efficiently access an <iframe>'s window and document properties in a cross-browser way (without the use of jQuery or other libraries)? Thanks for any help!

  • TimeoutException when WCF Host and Client are in the same process

    - by Pharao2k
    I've ran into a really weird problem. I am building a heavily distributed application where each app instance can either be a Host and/or Client to a WCF-Service (very p2p-like). Everything works fine, as long as the Client and the targeted Host (By which I mean the app, not the Host, since currently everything runs on a single computer (so no Firewall problems etc.)) are NOT the same. IF they are the same, then the app hangs for exactly 1 Minute and then throws a TimeoutException. WCF-Logging did not produce anything helpful. Here is a small app which demonstrates the Problem: public partial class MainWindow : Window { public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); } private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { var binding = new NetTcpBinding(); var baseAddress = new Uri(@"net.tcp://localhost:4000/Test"); ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost(typeof(TestService), baseAddress); host.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(ITestService), binding, baseAddress); var debug = host.Description.Behaviors.Find<ServiceDebugBehavior>(); if (debug == null) host.Description.Behaviors.Add(new ServiceDebugBehavior { IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults = true }); else debug.IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults = true; host.Open(); var clientBinding = new NetTcpBinding(); var testProxy = new TestProxy(clientBinding, new EndpointAddress(baseAddress)); testProxy.Test(); } } [ServiceContract] public interface ITestService { [OperationContract] void Test(); } public class TestService : ITestService { public void Test() { MessageBox.Show("foo"); } } public class TestProxy : ClientBase<ITestService>, ITestService { public TestProxy(NetTcpBinding binding, EndpointAddress remoteAddress) : base(binding, remoteAddress) { } public void Test() { Channel.Test(); } } What am I doing wrong? • Multi-Array of XML Requests

    - by sologhost
    OMG, I am in need of a way to set up arrays of XML Requests based on the idShout - 1. So it would be something like this... var req = new Array(); req[idShout - 1] = ALL XML Data... Here's what I got so far but it's not working at all :( var idShout; var req = new Array(); function htmlRequest(url, params, HttpMethod) { req[req.push] = ajax_function(); for (i=0;i<req.length;i++) { if (req[i]) { if (HttpMethod == "GET") { req[i].onreadystatechange = function() { if (req[i].readyState != 4) return; if (req[i].responseText !== null && req[i].status == 200) { document.getElementById("shoutbox_area" + idShout).innerHTML = req[i].responseText; } } } req[i].open(HttpMethod,url,true); if (HttpMethod == "POST") req[i].setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); if (params == "") req[i].send(null); else req[i].send(params); return req[i]; } else return null; } } function ajax_function() { var ajax_request = null; try { // Opera 8.0+, Firefox, Safari ajax_request = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e) { // IE Browsers try { ajax_request = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { try { ajax_request = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { //No browser support, rare case return null; } } } return ajax_request; } function send() { var send_data = "shoutmessage=" + document.getElementById("shout_message" + idShout).value; var url = smf_prepareScriptUrl(smf_scripturl) + "action=dreamaction;sa=shoutbox;xml;send_shout="+ idShout; htmlRequest(url, send_data, "POST"); document.getElementById("shout_message" + idShout).value = ""; document.getElementById("shout_message" + idShout).focus(); return true; } function startShouts(refreshRate, shoutCount) { clearInterval(Timer[shoutCount-1]); idShout = shoutCount; show_shouts(); Timer[shoutCount - 1] = setInterval("show_shouts()", refreshRate); return; } function show_shouts() { var url = smf_prepareScriptUrl(smf_scripturl) + "action=dreamaction;sa=shoutbox;xml;get_shouts=" + idShout; htmlRequest(url, "", "GET"); } Any help at all on this would be greatly appreciated... Basically, I'm setting the Timer Arrays in a different function before this, and I call startShouts which is supposed to show all of the information, but startShouts gets called more than once, which is why I have idShout set to equal shoutCount. So it will go something like this: shoutCount = 1, shoutCount = 2, shoutCount = 3, everytime it is being called. So I set the req[idShout - 1] array and it should return the result right?? Well, I get no errors in Firefox in the error console with this code above, but it doesn't work... Any ideas anyone?? As it needs to output into more than 1 area... argg. Thanks for any help you can offer here :) Thanks guys :)

  • Is there anyway to close a StreamWriter without closing it's BaseStream?

    - by Binary Worrier
    My root problem is that when using calls Dispose on a StreamWriter, it also disposes the BaseStream (same problem with Close). I have a workaround for this, but as you can see it involves copying the stream. Is there any way to do this without copying the stream? The purpose of this is to get the contents of a string (originally read from a database) into a stream, so the stream can be read by a third party component. NB I cannot change the third party component. public System.IO.Stream CreateStream(string value) { var baseStream = new System.IO.MemoryStream(); var baseCopy = new System.IO.MemoryStream(); using (var writer = new System.IO.StreamWriter(baseStream, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8)) { writer.Write(value); writer.Flush(); baseStream.WriteTo(baseCopy); } baseCopy.Seek(0, System.IO.SeekOrigin.Begin); return baseCopy; } Used as public void Noddy() { System.IO.Stream myStream = CreateStream("The contents of this string are unimportant"); My3rdPartyComponent.ReadFromStream(myStream); } Ideally I'm looking for an imaginery method called BreakAssociationWithBaseStream, e.g. public System.IO.Stream CreateStream_Alternate(string value) { var baseStream = new System.IO.MemoryStream(); using (var writer = new System.IO.StreamWriter(baseStream, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8)) { writer.Write(value); writer.Flush(); writer.BreakAssociationWithBaseStream(); } return baseStream; }

  • JSONP context problem

    - by PoweRoy
    I'm using a javascript autocomplete () in a greasemonkey script. On itself it works correctly but I wan't to add JSONP because I want the data from another domain. The code (snippet): function autosuggest(url) { this.suggest_url = url; this.keywords = []; return this.construct(); }; autosuggest.prototype = { construct: function() { return this; }, preSuggest: function() { this.CreateJSONPRequest(this.suggest_url + "foo"); }, CreateJSONPRequest: function(url) { var headID = document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0]; var newScript = document.createElement('script'); newScript.type = 'text/javascript'; newScript.src = url +'&callback=autosuggest.prototype.JSONCallback'; //newScript.async = true; newScript.onload = newScript.onreadystatechange = function() { if (newScript.readyState === "loaded" || newScript.readyState === "complete") { //remove it again newScript.onload = newScript.onreadystatechange = null; if (newScript && newScript.parentNode) { newScript.parentNode.removeChild(newScript); } } } headID.appendChild(newScript); }, JSONCallback: function(data) { if(data) { this.keywords = data; this.suggest(); } }, suggest: function() { //use this.keywords } }; //Add suggestion box to textboxes window.opera.addEventListener('AfterEvent.load', function (e) { var textboxes = document.getElementsByTagName('input'); for (var i = 0; i < textboxes.length; i++) { var tb = textboxes[i]; if (tb.type == 'text') { if (tb.autocomplete == undefined || tb.autocomplete == '' || tb.autocomplete == 'on') { //we handle autosuggestion tb.setAttribute('autocomplete','off'); var obj1 = new autosuggest("http://test.php?q="); } } } }, false); I removed not relevant code. Now when 'preSuggest' is called, it add a script to the header and circumvent the crossdomain problem. Now when the data is received back 'JSONcallback' is called. I can use the data, but when 'Suggest' is I can't use the this.keywords array or this.suggest_url. I think this is because 'JSONcallback' and 'Suggest' are called in a different context. How can I get this working?

  • Javascript: Whitespace Characters being Removed in Chrome (but not Firefox)

    - by Matrym
    Why would the below eliminate the whitespace around matched keyword text when replacing it with an anchor link? Note, this error only occurs in Chrome, and not firefox. For complete context, the file is located at: http://seox.org/lbp/lb-core.js To view the code in action (no errors found yet), the demo page is at http://seox.org/test.html. Copy/Pasting the first paragraph into a rich text editor (ie: dreamweaver, or gmail with rich text editor turned on) will reveal the problem, with words bunched together. Pasting it into a plain text editor will not. // Find page text (not in links) -> doxdesk.com function findPlainTextExceptInLinks(element, substring, callback) { for (var childi= element.childNodes.length; childi-->0;) { var child= element.childNodes[childi]; if (child.nodeType===1) { if (child.tagName.toLowerCase()!=='a') findPlainTextExceptInLinks(child, substring, callback); } else if (child.nodeType===3) { var index= child.data.length; while (true) { index= child.data.lastIndexOf(substring, index); if (index===-1 || limit.indexOf(substring.toLowerCase()) !== -1) break; // don't match an alphanumeric char var dontMatch =/\w/; if(child.nodeValue.charAt(index - 1).match(dontMatch) || child.nodeValue.charAt(index+keyword.length).match(dontMatch)) break; // alert(child.nodeValue.charAt(index+keyword.length + 1)); callback.call(window, child, index) } } } } // Linkup function, call with various type cases (below) function linkup(node, index) { node.splitText(index+keyword.length); var a= document.createElement('a'); a.href= linkUrl; a.appendChild(node.splitText(index)); node.parentNode.insertBefore(a, node.nextSibling); limit.push(keyword.toLowerCase()); // Add the keyword to memory urlMemory.push(linkUrl); // Add the url to memory } // lower case (already applied) findPlainTextExceptInLinks(lbp.vrs.holder, keyword, linkup); Thanks in advance for your help. I'm nearly ready to launch the script, and will gladly comment in kudos to you for your assistance.

  • Can simple javascript inheritance be simplified even further?

    - by Will
    John Resig (of jQuery fame) provides a concise and elegant way to allow simple JavaScript inheritance. It was so short and sweet, in fact, that it inspired me to try and simplify it even further (see code below). I've modified his original function such that it still passes all his tests and has the potential advantage of: readability (50% less code) simplicity (you don't have to be a ninja to understand it) performance (no extra wrappers around super/base method calls) consistency with C#'s base keyword Because this seems almost too good to be true, I want to make sure my logic doesn't have any fundamental flaws/holes/bugs, or if anyone has additional suggestions to improve or refute the code (perhaps even John Resig could chime in here!). Does anyone see anything wrong with my approach (below) vs. John Resig's original approach? if (!window.Class) { window.Class = function() {}; window.Class.extend = function(members) { var prototype = new this(); for (var i in members) prototype[i] = members[i]; prototype.base = this.prototype; function object() { if (object.caller == null && this.initialize) this.initialize.apply(this, arguments); } object.constructor = object; object.prototype = prototype; object.extend = arguments.callee; return object; }; } And the tests (below) are nearly identical to the original ones except for the syntax around base/super method calls (for the reason enumerated above): var Person = Class.extend( { initialize: function(isDancing) { this.dancing = isDancing; }, dance: function() { return this.dancing; } }); var Ninja = Person.extend( { initialize: function() { this.base.initialize(false); }, dance: function() { return this.base.dance(); }, swingSword: function() { return true; } }); var p = new Person(true); alert("true? " + p.dance()); // => true var n = new Ninja(); alert("false? " + n.dance()); // => false alert("true? " + n.swingSword()); // => true alert("true? " + (p instanceof Person && p instanceof Class && n instanceof Ninja && n instanceof Person && n instanceof Class));

  • Returning a Value From the Bit.ly JS API Callback

    - by mtorbin
    Hey all, I am attempting to turn this "one shot" script into something more extensible. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to get the callback function to set a value outside of itself (please note that references to the Bit.ly API and the prototype.js frame work which are required have been left out due to login and apiKey information): CURRENTLY WORKING CODE var setShortUrl = function(data) { var resultOBJ, myURL; for(x in data.results){resultOBJ = data.results[x];} for(key in resultOBJ){if(key == "shortUrl"){myURL = resultOBJ[key];}} alert(myURL); } BitlyClient.shorten('http://www.thinkgeek.com', 'setShortUrl'); PROPOSED CHANGES var setShortUrl = function(data) { var resultOBJ, myURL; for(x in data.results){resultOBJ = data.results[x];} for(key in resultOBJ){if(key == "shortUrl"){myURL = resultOBJ[key];}} alert(myURL); return myURL; } var myTEST = BitlyClient.shorten('http://www.thinkgeek.com', 'setShortUrl'); alert(myTEST); As you can see this doesn't work the way I'm am expecting. If I could get a pointer in the right direction it would be most appreciated. Thanks, MT

  • TomTom integration does not work anymore?

    - by viezel
    I did for 6 months back an integration for TomTom navigation with URL Scheme. This worked out great, but then TomTom updated their iPhone app to version 1.10. Since then the integration does not work. Anyone tried the same? My iOS integration looks like this: (Titanium appcelerator) var lat = dbDataArray[chosenRoute]["lat"].toFixed(6); //geo coordinate var lng = dbDataArray[chosenRoute]["lng"].toFixed(6); //geo coordinate //open navigation var url = "tomtomhome://geo:action=navigateto&lat="+lat+"&long="+lng+"&name=name"; //show map //var url = "tomtomhome://geo:action=show&lat="+lat+"&long="+lng+"&name=name"; if (Ti.Platform.canOpenURL(url)) { Ti.Platform.openURL(url); }else { alert('Please install TomTom Navigation app'); } Note: I cannot get TomTom to tell me what has changed.

  • Compare only date javascript

    - by moleculezz
    Hi all, I can't seem to figure out what is wrong with my code. Maybe it would be simpler to just compare date and not time. Not sure how to do this either and I searched but couldn't find my exact problem. BTW, when I display the two dates in an alert, they show as exactly the same. My code: window.addEvent('domready', function() { var now = new Date(); var input = $('datum').getValue(); var dateArray = input.split('/'); var userMonth = parseInt(dateArray[1])-1; var userDate = new Date(); userDate.setFullYear(dateArray[2], userMonth, dateArray[0], now.getHours(), now.getMinutes(), now.getSeconds(), now.getMilliseconds()); if(userDate > now) { alert(now+'\n'+userDate); } }); Perhaps there is a simpler way to compare dates and not including the time. Hope someone has an answer... Thanks!

  • jQuery autocomplete not always working on elements

    - by PoweRoy
    I'm trying to create a greasemonkey script (for Opera) to add autocomplete to input elements found on a webpage but it's not completely working. I first got the autocomplete plugin working: // ==UserScript== // @name autocomplete // @description autocomplete // @include * // ==/UserScript== // Add jQuery var GM_JQ = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ.src = 'http://jquery.com/src/jquery-latest.js'; GM_JQ.type = 'text/javascript'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ); var GM_CSS = document.createElement('link'); GM_CSS.rel = 'stylesheet'; GM_CSS.href = 'http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/jquery.autocomplete.css'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_CSS); var GM_JQ_autocomplete = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ_autocomplete.type = 'text/javascript'; GM_JQ_autocomplete.src = 'http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/jquery.autocomplete.js'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ_autocomplete); // Check if jQuery's loaded function GM_wait() { if(typeof window.jQuery == 'undefined') { window.setTimeout(GM_wait,100); } else { $ = window.jQuery; letsJQuery(); } } GM_wait(); function letsJQuery() { $("input[type='text']").each(function(index) { $(this).val("test autocomplete"); }); $("input[type='text']").autocomplete("http://mysite/jquery_autocomplete.php", { dataType: 'jsonp', parse: function(data) { var rows = new Array(); for(var i=0; i<data.length; i++){ rows[i] = { data:data[i], value:data[i], result:data[i] }; } return rows; }, formatItem: function(row, position, length) { return row; }, }); } I see the 'test autocomplete' but using the Opera debugger(firefly) I don't see any communication to my php page. (yes mysite is fictional, but it works here) Trying it on my own page: <body> no autocomplete: <input type="text" name="q1" id="script_1"><br> autocomplete on: <input type="text" name="q2" id="script_2" autocomplete="on"><br> autocomplete off: <input type="text" name="q3" id="script_3" autocomplete="off"><br> autocomplete off: <input type="text" name="q4" id="script_4" autocomplete="off"><br> </body> This works, but when trying on another pages it sometimes won't: e.g. http://spitsnieuws.nl/ works but http://nu.nl and http://dumpert.nl don't work. Trying the autocomplete of jquery ui has more problems: // ==UserScript== // @name autocomplete // @description autocomplete // @include * // ==/UserScript== // Add jQuery var GM_JQ = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ.src = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4/jquery.min.js'; GM_JQ.type = 'text/javascript'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ); var GM_CSS = document.createElement('link'); GM_CSS.rel = 'stylesheet'; GM_CSS.href = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8/themes/base/jquery-ui.css'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_CSS); var GM_JQ_autocomplete = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ_autocomplete.type = 'text/javascript'; GM_JQ_autocomplete.src = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8/jquery-ui.min.js'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ_autocomplete); // Check if jQuery's loaded function GM_wait() { if(typeof window.jQuery == 'undefined') { window.setTimeout(GM_wait,100); } else { $ = window.jQuery; letsJQuery(); } } GM_wait(); // All your GM code must be inside this function function letsJQuery() { $("input[type='text']").each(function(index) { $(this).val("test autocomplete"); }); $("input[type='text']").autocomplete({ source: function(request, response) { $.ajax({ url: "http://mysite/jquery_autocomplete.php", dataType: "jsonp", success: function(data) { response($.map(data, function(item) { return { label: item, value: item } })) } }) } }); } This will work on my html page, http://spitsnieuws.nl and http://dumpert.nl but not on http://nu.nl. (dumpert didn't work on the plugin autocomplete) //http://spitsnieuws.nl <input class="frmtxt ac_input" type="text" id="zktxt" name="query" autocomplete="off"> //http://dumpert.nl <input type="text" name="srchtxt" id="srchtxt"> //http://nu.nl <input id="zoekfield" name="q" type="text" value="Zoek nieuws" onfocus="this.select()" type="text"> Anyone know why the autocomplete functionality doesn't work?   • How to include file outside document root?

    - by Brayn
    Hey, What I want do to is to include 'file1.php' from 'domain1' into 'file2.php' on 'domain2'. So what I figured I should do is something like this: file2.php require_once '/var/www/vhosts/domain1/httpdocs/file1.php'; But this won't work for reasons I can't truly grasp. So what I did was to add my path to the include path. Something like: file2.php set_include_path(get_include_path() . PATH_SEPARATOR . "/var/www/vhosts/domain1/httpdocs"); require_once 'file1.php'; So can you please give me some hints as of where I'm doing wrong ? Thanks UPDATE - Either way I get the following error message: Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/var/www/vhosts/domain1/httpdocs/file1.php' (include_path='.:/php/includes:/usr/share/pear/') in /var/www/vhosts/domain2/httpdocs/file2.php on line 4 Also I have tried this both with safe_mode On and Off. UPDATE2: Also I've changed the permissions to 777 on my test file and I've double-checked the paths to the include file in bash.

  • Very simple jQuery rollover

    - by Gusepo
    I made a very simple jQuery img rollover function inspired by this one: http://www.smileycat.com/miaow/archives/000224.php. It just check all the imgs that contain _off in their name and swap them with an img with the same name but "_on" instead of "_off". Since I can't use background imgs in my layout, I feel that's an handy solution. But I've got the feeling that the swapping is not smooth, like if the function runs slow. What do you think? Are there ways to optimize it? Here is the code: function roll_over() { $("img[src*='_off']").hover( function() { var stringa = $(this).attr("src"); var stringa = stringa.replace("_off", "_on"); $(this).attr("src", stringa); }, function() { var stringa = $(this).attr("src"); var stringa = stringa.replace("_on", "_off"); $(this).attr("src", stringa); } ); }
