  ok, i know you get sick from this subject. me too :( I've been developing a quite "big application" with PHP & kohana framework past 2 years, somewhat-successfully using my framework's authentication mechanism. but within this time, and as the app grown, many concerning state-preservation issues arisen. main problems are that cookie-driven sessions: can't be used for web-service access ( at least it's really not nice to do so.. ) in many cases problematic with mobile access don't allow multiple simultaneous apps on same browser ( can be resolved by hard trickery, but still.. ) requires many configurations and mess to work 100% right, and that's without the --browser issues ( disabled cookies, old browsers bugs & vulnerabilities etc ) many other session flaws stated in this old thread : http://lists.nyphp.org/pipermail/talk/2006-December/020358.html After a really long research, and without any good library/on-hand-solution to feet my needs, i came up with a custom solution to majority of those problems . Basically, i'ts about emulating sessions with ajax calls, with additional security/performance measures: state preserved by interchanging SID(+hash) with client on ajax calls. state data saved in memcache(or equivalent), indexed by SID security achieved by: appending unpredictible hash to SID egenerating hash on each request & validating it validating fingerprint of client on each request ( referrer,os,browser etc) (*)condition: ajax calls are not simultaneous, to prevent race-condition with session token. (hopefully Ext-Direct solves that for me) From the first glance that supposed to be not-less-secure than equivalent cookie-driven implementation, and at the same time it's simple, maintainable, and resolves all the cookies flaws.. But i'm really concerned because i often hear the rule "don't try to implement custom security solutions". I will really appreciate any serious feedback about my method, and any alternatives. also, any tip about how to preserve state on page-refresh without cookies would be great :) but thats small technical prob. • WCF/MSMQ Transport Security with Certificates

  Hi there, my goal is to secure the communication between MSMQ Queue Managers – I don’t want unknown clients sending messages to my MSMQ server. I have spent many hours now trying to get Transport security working for the net.msmq binding in WCF, where MSMQ is in Workgroup mode and the client and server do not have Active Directory… so I’m using certificates. I have created a new X.509 certificate, called Kristan and put it into the “Trusted people” store on the server and into the My store of Current User of the client. The error I’m getting is: An error occurred while sending to the queue: Unrecognized error -1072824272 (0xc00e0030).Ensure that MSMQ is installed and running. If you are sending to a local queue, ensure the queue exists with the required access mode and authorization. Using smartsniff, I see that there’s no attempted connection with the remote MSMQ, however, it’s an error probably coming from the local queue manager. • jQuery AJAX request (Rails 3) gets redirected and returns empty message body (only with SSL)!

  I'm trying to do a manual jQuery AJAX request the following way: $("#user_plan_id").change(function() { $("#plan_container").load('/plans/' + this.value); }); I have the "rails.js" file included in my header, and a "<%= csrf_meta_tag %". I see from my log that the request IS getting to the server (although without the authenticity token... does rails.js even do this?), but the response is a 302 (Found) rather than 200, and no data actually gets rendered. Any ideas? Edit: I now see that the first request redirects, and the proper partial gets rendered on the redirect. However, the 2nd response's body (on the client-side) is still empty. I'm guessing jQuery uses the first response and doesn't have a listener set up for the redirect. How do I get around this? Also, another note: the page doing the requesting is an HTTPS page. • Grails Mail port configuration

  Hello, I am trying to send mail through grails mail plugin. I configured according to the documentation, and also followed few blog posts (http://blog.lourish.com/2010/04/02/sending-asynchronous-html-email-in-grails-with-activemq-jms-and-gmail/). That post mention that the closure way of declaring the configuration overrides others, but not true. Anyway I tried both approach, but seems like the port is still use the smtp default one. I get the below exception. exception: org.springframework.mail.MailSendException: Mail server connection failed; nested exception is javax.mail.MessagingException: Could not connect to SMTP host: localhost, port: 25; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect Now, I wrote a small program directly using the java mail library, and I could send the mail with that. The configuration is shown below. tried additional config "mail.smtp.port":"465"", but no change.. used the parameters mentioned in the above blog post, result same grails { mail { host = "smtp.gmail.com" port = "465" username = "[email protected]" password = "mypwd" props = ["mail.smtp.auth":"true", // "mail.smtp.port":"465", "mail.smtp.socketFactory.port":"465", "mail.smtp.socketFactory.class":"javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory", "mail.smtp.socketFactory.fallback":"false"] } } thanks in advance.. Update: It is not port or firewall config, as when I made a grails application from scratch, and tried with the same config, everything works. • How to scrape a _private_ google group?

  Hi there, I'd like to scrape the discussion list of a private google group. It's a multi-page list and I might have to this later again so scripting sounds like the way to go. Since this is a private group, I need to login in my google account first. Unfortunately I can't manage to login using wget or ruby Net::HTTP. Surprisingly google groups is not accessible with the Client Login interface, so all the code samples are useless. My ruby script is embedded at the end of the post. The response to the authentication query is a 200-OK but no cookies in the response headers and the body contains the message "Your browser's cookie functionality is turned off. Please turn it on." I got the same output with wget. See the bash script at the end of this message. I don't know how to workaround this. am I missing something? Any idea? Thanks in advance.   Related Questions: Benefits of using short-circuit evaluation, Why would a language NOT use Short-circuit evaluation?, Can someone explain this line of code please? (Logic & Assignment operators) There are questions about the benefits of a language using short-circuit code, but I'm wondering what are the benefits for a programmer? Is it just that it can make code a little more concise? Or are there performance reasons? I'm not asking about situations where two entities need to be evaluated anyway, for example: if($user->auth() AND $model->valid()){ $model->save(); } To me the reasoning there is clear - since both need to be true, you can skip the more costly model validation if the user can't save the data. This also has a (to me) obvious purpose: if(is_string($userid) AND strlen($userid) > 10){ //do something }; Because it wouldn't be wise to call strlen() with a non-string value. What I'm wondering about is the use of short-circuit code when it doesn't effect any other statements. For example, from the Zend Application default index page: defined('APPLICATION_PATH') || define('APPLICATION_PATH', realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . '/../application')); This could have been: if(!defined('APPLICATION_PATH')){ define('APPLICATION_PATH', realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . '/../application')); } Or even as a single statement: if(!defined('APPLICATION_PATH')) define('APPLICATION_PATH', realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . '/../application')); So why use the short-circuit code? Just for the 'coolness' factor of using logic operators in place of control structures? To consolidate nested if statements? Because it's faster?

• ASPXAUTH cookie is not being saved.

  Hi, Im working on a web project in ASP .NET MVC 2. In this project we store some info inside an ecripted cookie (the ASPXAUTH cookie) to avoid the need to query the db for every request. The thing is the code for this part has suddenly stopped working. I reviewed the changes made to the code on the source control server for anything that could be causing it, I found nothing. I even reverted to a known working copy (working on some other persons PC, same code, etc) but after debugging, it seems the .ASPXAUTH cookie is not getting saved anymore. Instead the ASP.NET_SessionId cookie is being set... (wich before wasn't) I changed the web.config file to turn off the sessionState. This eliminated the ASP.NET_SessionId cookie from being set, but it is still not saving the auth cookie. Ive recently installed some Microsoft Windows XP Updates, but the other person (whos PC runs the application just fine) also did. After googling, some info i found pointed out to a problem with the expiration date of the cookie. Ether cus the pc didnt have the right time/date (this was not the case) and others cus of the cookie expiration date being wrongly set. (I checked and it is being set correctly)... The problem persists with other browsers besides the one im using (Chrome) i tried it with IE6. Any ideas on why this is happening? Ill continue to post any helpful information i can find.   To begin I know about http://blog.kadirpekel.com/2009/11/09/facebook-connect-integration-with-spring-security/ The only problem is that it completely replaces the Form Login with Facebook Connect. I have the native form login in place, I also have Facebook Connect in place, Upon gathering user information I link it to a native account but without a password. At that point I would like to call a link or method to start process of going into the Spring Security Filter Chain. Here is the source code that works, but am trying to modify. It contains all the files I'm taking about. Now from what I understand I need to add a custom FacebookAuthenticationProvider so that my AuthenticationManager knows about it. <bean id="facebookAuthenticationProvider" class="org.springframework.security.facebook.FacebookAuthenticationProvider"> </bean> <security:authentication-manager alias="authenticationManager"> <security:authentication-provider ref="facebookAuthenticationProvider" /> </security:authentication-manager> Then within the FacebookAuthenticationProvider I would have to call an FacebookAuthenticationToken that would take my the current facebook Uid and SessionKey of the user.   I have been working on an iPhone app that has a feature of uploading photos to TwitPic. I have it working with basic authentication. I am trying to get it working with OAuth. I am getting authentication errors. I have studied very carefully the TwitPic documentation. I am authorising the app by displaying a UI Web View and the it returns a PIN value. I enter the PIN value in the app and request the token. I am able to upload status updates to Twitter but not photos. I need to impersonate temporarily on top of that to access a network resource. I do that as shown above. This works fine on server if I browse to the website on the local IE installed on the server but when I access the app from my PC or any other PC, I get a access denied. Btw, this is all within an enterprise domain environment. so IE in both cases is passing a valid authenticated token. Any ideas what is going on. thanks.

If the history has changed then the view updates. ** MVP with history change (Works well)** Current URL is /list User clicks on contactdelete button. Fire DeleteContactAction event. App controller catches, change history to 'delete' onValueChange is called if (token.equals("delete")) delete contact screen, then delete contact Fire ContactDeletedEvent app controller catches and change the history to list onValueChange is called: contact list refreshes GWT MVP pattern for dialog box w/o history changes ** Issue ** - I use a dialog box and I don't want to change the browser history, so here is the problem: Current URL is /list User clicks on contactdelete button. Contact is deleted Fire ContactDeletedEvent. App controller catches, change history to 'list' **onValueChange is NOT called** because url is already /list and there is no change # problem: contact list does not refresh Question: does anyone know a pattern to implement this in the context of MVP? • Classic ASP Session not working in IIS 7 Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

  Hi, I've been googleing and searching here info about this but so far couldn't find anything relevant to my problem. We have a website currently working on II6 and Windows Server 2003 (x86) without any problem. Now we want to migrate our server to a Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) and IIS7. Out current app is built in Classic ASP and SQL Server (This one located on a 2nd Server but this is staying the way it is now). The website is configured as a WebSite, not a virtual directory. Using DefaultAppPool with 4 applications. • Flex: How to refresh/repaint a chart?

  I have a chart for which the data is provided asynchronously via a CallResponder (used with a RemoteObject). However, it does not seem possible to update the chart with the data after it has been initially drawn. I have tried: Firing a collection modified event after assigning it to chart.dataProvider calling invalidateDisplayList (tried with all components) binding the chart data provider to a variable, and doing the above. changing the view state on the last line of resultHandler. None of them worked. When I fetch the data and cache it locally, then use it to call init synchronously, the chart displays correctly. What am I missing here?

  I'm having some trouble using a combination of XElement and XslCompiledTransform. I've put the sample code I'm using below. If I get my input XML using the GetXmlDocumentXml() method, it works fine. If I use the GetXElementXml() method instead, I get an InvalidOperationException when calling the Transform method of XslComiledTransform: Token Text in state Start would result in an invalid XML document. Make sure that the ConformanceLevel setting is set to ConformanceLevel.Fragment or ConformanceLevel.Auto if you want to write an XML fragment. The CreateNavigator method on both XElement and XmlDocument returns an XPathNavigator. What extra stuff is XmlDocument doing so this all works, and how can I do the same with XElement? • Why can't I source my vimrc after installing vundle?

  I'm trying to get my Vim to update on the fly after editing vimrc. So I followed the instructions at Vimcast which basically source vimrc every time you hit save. • Shift-reduce: when to stop reducing?

  I'm trying to learn about shift-reduce parsing. Suppose we have the following grammar, using recursive rules that enforce order of operations, inspired by the ANSI C Yacc grammar: S: A; P : NUMBER | '(' S ')' ; M : P | M '*' P | M '/' P ; A : M | A '+' M | A '-' M ; And we want to parse 1+2 using shift-reduce parsing. First, the 1 is shifted as a NUMBER. My question is, is it then reduced to P, then M, then A, then finally S? How does it know where to stop? Suppose it does reduce all the way to S, then shifts '+'. We'd now have a stack containing: S '+' If we shift '2', the reductions might be: S '+' NUMBER S '+' P S '+' M S '+' A S '+' S Now, on either side of the last line, S could be P, M, A, or NUMBER, and it would still be valid in the sense that any combination would be a correct representation of the text. How does the parser "know" to make it A '+' M So that it can reduce the whole expression to A, then S? In other words, how does it know to stop reducing before shifting the next token? Is this a key difficulty in LR parser generation?
