  • How to show specific link to user that's signed in and on specific page in rails?

    - by sevens
    I have the following code for part of my navigation: <% if user_signed_in? %> <li><%= link_to 'Edit Profile', edit_profile_path(current_user.profile) %></li> <li><%= link_to 'Edit Account', edit_user_registration_path %></li> <% elsif user_signed_in? and params[:controller] == 'profiles#edit' %> <li><%= link_to 'View Profile', profile_path(current_user.profile) %></li> <li><%= link_to 'Edit Account', edit_user_registration_path %></li> <% else %> <li><%= link_to 'Sign up', new_user_registration_path %></li> <% end %> I want different links to show depending on where the "user_signed_in" is. However, my <% elsif user_signed_in? and params[:controller] == 'profiles#edit' %> doesn't seem to be working. What am I doing wrong?

  • auto_complete plugin error: Couldn't find Question with ID=auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name

    - by bgadoci
I have successfully set up this plugin before so I am curious as to what I am doing wrong here. I have built the ability for users to add tags to questions. I am not using tagging plugin here but that shouldn't matter for this. With respect to the auto complete, I am trying to have the form located in the /views/questions/show.html.erb file access the Tags table and display entries in the tags.tags_name column. When I begin to type in the field I get the following error message: Processing QuestionsController#show (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-05-31 15:22:20) [GET] Parameters: {"tag"=>{"tag_name"=>"a"}, "id"=>"auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name"} Question Load (0.1ms) SELECT * FROM "questions" WHERE ("questions"."id" = 0) ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Question with ID=auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name): app/controllers/application_controller.rb:15:in `init_data' For some reason I am actually passing the field name as the Question.id. The plugin set up is fairly simple as you add the following line to your controller: auto_complete_for :tag, :tag_name and the following line in your routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have added the controller line to both my tags and questions controller and also mapped resources for both tags and questions in my routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } map.resources :questions, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have played around with removing either or of the above but can't seem to fix it. Any ideas what I am doing wrong here?

  • capistrano initial deployment

  • How do I check the Database type in a Rails Migration?

    - by Shaun F
I have the following migration and I want to be able to check if the current database related to the environment is a mysql database. If it's mysql then I want to execute the SQL that is specific to the database. How do I go about this? class AddUsersFb < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up add_column :users, :fb_user_id, :integer add_column :users, :email_hash, :string #if mysql #execute("alter table users modify fb_user_id bigint") end def self.down remove_column :users, :fb_user_id remove_column :users, :email_hash end end

  • Has anyone used a rails gem for lightbox functionality? If so which ones?

    - by bgadoci
Trying to figure out what is the best solution for using lightbox in rails. I have a set up an application that has projects and posts belong_to project. A post can have multiple photos and I am successfully only displaying the first photo in the photos table in the projects show view for each post. I am now trying to allow the user to view the rest of the photos associated with a post through a lightbox feature. Any idea if there is a rails ready solution for something like this?

  • Limiting a search to records from last_request_at...

    - by bgadoci
I am trying to figure out how to display a count for records that have been created in a table since the last_request_at of a user. In my view I am counting the notes of a question with the following code: <% unless @questions.empty? %> <% @questions.each do |question| %> <%= h(question.notes.count) %> end end This is happening in the /views/users/show.html.erb file. Instead of counting all the notes for the question, I would only like to count the notes that have been created since the users last_request_at datetime. I don't neccessarily want to scope notes to display this 'new notes' count application wide, just simply in this one instance. To accomplish I am assuming I need to create a variable in the User#show action and call it in the view but not really sure how to do that. Other information you may need: class Note < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :question end class Question < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :notes, :dependent => :destroy belongs_to :user end

  • How do I use Haml in a view in my new plugin?

    - by Eric
I'm creating a new plugin for a jruby on rails application that will eventually be turned into a gem. Inside my plugin I have controllers, helpers and views. For my views I'd like to use Haml. The problem is that I can't seem to get it to recognize that they are haml templates. Is it even possible to do this? Is there a way for a plugin to have Haml as a dependency for its view? And by that I mean, I intend for the plugin that I'm creating to have a view created by the plugin, that can be used by the application developer. for example: vendor/ plugins/ my_plugin/ lib/ app/ views/ my_plugin_demo/ index.haml.html controllers/ my_plugin_demo_controller.rb helpers/ In my plugin's init.rb, I tried: require 'my_plugin' require 'haml' #doesn't seem to make a difference :( but that didn't seem to make any difference. Has anybody had any experience with this? I can't seem to find any documentation on how to make this work. Are plugin views restricted to .erb templates?

  • Adding a LIKE criteria to a Rails Conditions block

    - by Neil Middleton
Consider the following code which is to be thrown at an AR find: conditions = [] conditions[:age] = params[:age] if params[:age].present? conditions[:gender] = params[:gender] if params[:gender].present? I need to add another condition which is a LIKE criteria on a 'profile' attribute. How can I do this, as obviously a LIKE is usually done via an array, not a hash key.

  • Rails 2.3.5: How does one access code inside of lib/directory/file.rb?

    - by randombits
I created a file so I can share a method amongst many models in lib/foo/bar_woo.rb. Inside of bar_woo.rb I defined the following: module BarWoo def hello puts "hello" end end Then in my model I'm doing something like: def MyModel < ActiveRecord::Base include Foo::BarWoo def some_method Foo::BarWoo.hello end end The interpreter is complaining that it expected bar_woo.rb to define Foo::BarWoo. The Agile Web Development with Rails book states that if files contain classes or modules and the files are named using the lowercase form of the class or module name, then Rails will load the file automatically. I didn't require it because of this.

  • Fork a process and send data to it inside Rails

    - by taro
I'm making a Rails application. In the one action I need to spawn a long running process. This is not a problem. I can fork new process using spawn gem or some other. But some time after process has been spawned, user must be able to pass additional data to that process. Sure, I can fork process which will listen a UNIX socket, store socket address in the HTTP session and communicate with that process using drb protocol when user will require to pass new data to process. But I think it is not best solution and it will be a problem to deploy an application to the hosting. What is the easy way to do that?

  • Checking if the email had been already taken in the following if statement (Rails)?

    - by alexchenco
I have the following action: users.rb: def omniauth_create auth = request.env["omniauth.auth"] user = User.from_omniauth(env["omniauth.auth"]) unless user.email.blank? if user.id.nil? # Save the user since he hasn't been created yet user.save! end sign_in user redirect_back_or user else # Send user to a form to fill his email #session[:omniauth] = request.env['omniauth.auth'].except('extra') redirect_to(enter_email_path(oprovider: user.provider, ouid: user.uid, oname: user.name, opassword: user.password, opassword_confirmation: user.password)) end end It does the following: If the user's email is not blank, sign him in, and redirect him to his profile (and save him if his id is nil. In other words, if he hasn't been created yet). If the user's email is blank, send him to enter_email_path (where the user can enter his email). Now I want to add another if statement that flashes an error if the email had been already taken, and redirects the user to the root_path I'm not very sure how to do this, Any suggestions? (and where to put that if statement?)

  • Paperclip generating wrong URLs in Heroku

    - by Tony
Paperclip is generating wrong URLs in Heroku. I have an Audio model which has a mp3 field as follows: class Audio < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :mp3, :storage => :s3, :s3_credentials => S3_CREDENTIALS, :bucket => S3_CREDENTIALS[:bucket], :path => ":rails_root/public/system/:attachment/:id/:style/:filename", :url => "/system/:attachment/:id/:style/:filename" I am calling audio.mp3.url from a controller, and it returns http://s3.amazonaws.com/MyApp/audios/mp3s//original/96a9ae89302fdf8462ee05eb829f2e17578b144e20120908-2-11f61zr.mp3?1347135050 instead of http://s3.amazonaws.com/MyApp/audios/mp3s/000/000/004/original/96a9ae89302fdf8462ee05eb829f2e17578b144e20120908-2-11f61zr.mp3?1347135050 (which works) Why is it missing the '000/000/004' part of the route? The same model is generating the right URL when used in a view. Any help? I am using paperclip 3.2.0 and Rails 3.1.8. Any help?

  • Rails: Serializing objects in a database?

    - by keruilin
I'm looking for some general guidance on serializing objects in a database. What are serialized objects? What are some best-practice scenarios for serializing objects in a DB? What attributes do you use when creating the column in the DB so you can use a serialized object? How to save a serialized object? And how to access the serialized object and its attributes? (Using hashes?)

  • Creating an instance in rails association

    - by Sandeep Rao
I have three models where a basiccase has a form. Basic case can create a new form. class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :basiccases end class Basiccase < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_one :basiccases end class Form3C < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :basiccases end I want to create an instance of form 3c in the form3c controller. Can any one explain me how I can carry the basiccase_id to the form3c controller to set the foreign key attribute. I can set the value using @basiccase.build_form3_c but I'm not sure how I can get the basiccase_id from the basiccase.

  • How can I order my entries by sum from a separate table?

    - by bgadoci
I am wondering how I can order posts in my PostController#index to display by a column total in a separate table. Here is how I have it set up. class Post < ActiveRecord::Base :has_many :votes end and Class Vote < ActiveRecord::Base :belongs_to :post end I user can either vote up or down a particular post. I know there are likely better ways to do what I am currently doing but looking for a fix given my current situation. When a user votes up a post, a value of 1 is passed to the Vote Table via a hidden field. When a user votes down a post a value of -1 is passed to the same column (names vote). I am wondering how I can display my posts in order of the sum of the vote column (in the vote table) for a particular post. Another way to say that is, if a particular post has a net vote sum of 5, I want that to appear above a post with a net vote sum of 4. I am assuming that I need to affect the PostController#index action in some fashion. But not sure how to do that.

  • Rails: Thread won't affect database unless joined to main Thread

    - by hatboysam
I have a background operation I would like to occur every 20 seconds in Rails given that some condition is true. It kicked off when a certain controller route is hit, and it looks like this def startProcess argId = self.id t = Thread.new do while (Argument.isRunning(argId)) do Argument.update(argId) Argument.markVotes(argId) puts "Thread ran" sleep 20 end end end However, this code does absolutely nothing to my database unless I call "t.join" in which case my whole server is blocked for a long time (but it works). Why can't the read commit ActiveRecords without being joined to the main thread? The thread calls methods that look something like def sample model = Model.new() model.save() end but the models are not saved to the DB unless the thread is joined to the main thread. Why is this? I have been banging my head about this for hours.

  • Creating nested fields for column on assignment table?

    - by H O
I have three models, that represent a many to many relationship - Product, Sale and Product_sale. I have a nested form that allows me to create new products from the sale form - so far, so good. I have, however, added some additional fields to the assignment table - price, for example. How can I set the price on the assignment table from the product form, when it is nested in the sale form? I currently have the code below: <%= sale.fields_for :products do |products_builder| %> <%= render :partial => "products/form", :locals => {:f => products_builder, :form_actions_visible => false} %> <% end -%> I could nest a Product_sale form within the product form, but this would create a new product_sale, which is not what I am looking for. I will most likely need to nest the price field within the product form, to ensure that it updates the correct assignment record (since there could be multiple products on one sale form). How can I use a fields_for loop on the product form to update the existing assignment record that is built when I do @sale.products.build? The assignment record will not yet be saved, so I can not access it using a where clause and edit it that way. Thanks!

  • Minimizing calls to database in rails

    - by ming yeow
Hi guys, i am familiar with memcached and eager loading, but neither seems to solve the problem i am facing. My main performance lag comes from hundreds of data retrieval calls from the database. The tricky thing is that I do not know which set of users i need to retrieve until i have several steps of computation. I can refactor my code, but i was wondering how you experts handle this situation? I think it should be a fairly common situation def newsfeed - find out which users i need - retrieve those users via DB - find out which events happened for these users - for each of those events - retrieve new set of users - find out which groups are relevant - for each of those groups - retrieve new set of users - etc, etc end

  • Debugging on the production server in Rails

    - by ming yeow
how do you effectively debug on live server in rails, whether on a beta/production server? I tried modifying the file directly on the server, and restarting the app, but the changes does not seem to take effect, or takes a long time to (caching?) I also tried to do "script/server production" locally, but that is very slow The other option is to code and deploy, but that is very inefficient. Anyone has any insights as to how they do this efficiently?
