• secure offline PC storage accessible through javascript

  I'm attempting to build a browser-based HTML5 application that has the ability to store data locally on a PC (not mobile device) when offline. This data is sensitive and must be secure. Of course the trick is trying to find a way to be able to access the secure data with Javascript. I've ruled out browser local storage since its not secure. Could this be accomplished with a local database? If so, where could the DB credentials be stored? Javascript obviously doesn't seem like a good option to store them since its user-readable.

• Which VCS is efficient for storing small changes to big text files?

  A government agency publishes a text file with thousands of records. The entire file is about 60MB. Every day the file has about 60 new or changed records. We need to validate some info against that file, and for auditing purposes, we may need to recover the file as it was in certain date. I thought I could use a VCS to store the file using git, but I understand git stores the entire text file gzipped, so the 60BM file will still need about 30MB to store everyday version. I wonder if one of the free VCS stores only diff/patch files.

• Why use binary files to stack up different versions on DMSs?

  I've used both Liferay and Alfresco trying to use them as the Document Management System for an intranet. I noticed the following: They use the file system and the database to store files They use a GUID to name the file on the filesystem and that GUID is used as an Id in the database. The GUID-named file is a binary file The GUID-named binary file stores all versions for a given file The path for the file in the DMS doesn't match the one in the file system The URL makes reference to the GUID when a certain file is requested What I want to know is why is this, and what would be the best way of doing it. Like how to would you create the binary file (zip?), and what parts would you keep in the binary file and what parts would you store in the database (meta-data, path?). I'm assuming some of the benefits of doing it like this. As having the same URL for a file, regardless of its current document path. And having only one file even if the file has changed names over time.

ASP.NET Identity makes it easy to integrate user-specific profile data with application data. ASP.NET Identity also allows you to choose the persistence model for user profiles in your application. You can store the data in a SQL Server database or another data store, including NoSQL data stores such as Windows Azure Storage Tables” There’s a great page on the asp.net site that gives an introduction, overview, how to use it, and how to migrate to it. I won’t be doing a new project for awhile at work, but I’ll definitely be looking into this more when I get the time.

  I'm thinking of developing software for Ubuntu and other related Linux-based distros (like Linux Mint). But currently am at a loss for where to start. Would learning Python be enough/good? And what are the other things I should know about before starting this kind of developing? And will I be able to publish my apps to a software store like Ubuntu store even if I am from outside USA/UK? If not, what are the options I have to make my apps reach the audience? As a lot of users had asked, I intend to build applications only for Linux (I'm thinking of Gnome) that will be a bit business and enterprise oriented. Currently I am an Oracle certified Java developer in J2SE and J2ME. And I know Python a bit.

I use strong versioning of namespaces and hence the generated clr namespaces are awkward and may mean many client side code changes if the wsdl/xsd namespace version changes. I can do one mapping as shown below but not multiple svcutil.exe /t:code *.wsdl *.xsd /n:"http://mydomain.com/xsd/Model/Store/2009/07/01, MyDomain.Model.Address" /o:TestClient\WebServiceProxy4.cs But is there any solution. Svcutil is not magic, it is written in .Net and programatically generating the proxies. Has anyone written an alternate to svcutil or point me to directions so that I can write one.

My client at the time of installation will generate a new Certificate and use the Root Certificate to sign it. I need to use Windows API. Cannot use any windows tools like makecert.   I'd like to add core data to an existing iPhone project, but I still get a lot of compile errors: NSManagedObjectContext undeclared Expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'NSManagedObjectModel' ... I already added the Core Data Framework to the target (right click on my project under "Targets", "Add" - "Existing Frameworks", "CoreData.framework").   I am trying to create a program that will do some simple calculations, but am having trouble with the program not doing the correct math, or placing the decimal correctly, or something. Some other people I asked cannot figure it out either.   I'm seeing some unusual behavior when using the DataContractSerializer.   Hi I'm new to all this. I have been trying to display fetched emails in a JTable using the JavaMail add-on. However when I ask the program to set the value it never does. I have been working in NetBeans if that is any help? the fetchMail class finds all may on a server. The gui class is used to display all emails in a table as well as creating mail. • Windows Start Menu Not Staying on Top

  Hey everyone. I've had this problem since Windows Vista. I did a clean install with Windows 7 and hoped it would fix the problem. Also swapped out the video card just to rule out a strange driver issue. Here's what's happening. After running for some period of time (usually a few hours), the Start button/orb will loose it's "Chrome" and turn into a plain button that just says "Start." It will work fine for a while, but then the start menu will just stop showing. Additionally, when I hit Win+D to show the desktop, the entire taskbar completely disappears. I can get it back usually by moving/minimizing windows that may be overlapping where the start menu should show. Otherwise, it requires either a full reboot or I'll end up killing & restarting the explorer.exe process. • Is it possible to play multiple audio streams from one "jukebox" to multiple Airport Express devices?

  I have set up a Mac mini as a jukebox that streams audio to an Airport Express in another room in the house, using the AirPlay/AirTunes feature in iTunes. I control this with the iOS Remote app, and this works great. At the present time, it looks like the Mac mini's copy of iTunes gets taken over by the Remote app, while streaming. If I set up a second Airport Express in room B, is there a way to set it up (as well as the jukebox) so that it can receive and play its own unique music stream ("stream B"), separate from what's going on at the Mac mini, or in room A, which is playing stream A? To accomplish this, I would be happy to buy a copy of Rogue Amoeba's AirFoil if it will allow sending multiple, separate audio streams from one computer to the multiple wireless bridges, while using the Remote app (or a Rogue Amoeba equivalent for iOS). However, it is unclear to me from their site documentation, whether that is possible or not. I'd prefer to give the points to an answer that solves this problem. • Excel VBA: select every other cell in a row range to be copied and pasted vertically

  i have a 2200+ page text file. It is delivered from a customer through a data exchange to us with astericks to separate values and tildes (~) to denote the end of a row. The file is sent to me as a text file in Word. Most rows are split in two (1 row covers a full line and part of a second line). i transfer segments (10 page chunks) of it at a time into Excel where, unfortunately, any zeroes that occur at the end of a row get discarded in the "text to columns" procedure. So, i eyeball every "long" row to insure that zeroes were not lost and manually re-enter any that were. Here is a small bit of sample data: SDQ EA 92 1551 378 1601 151 1603 157 1604 83 The "SDQ, EA, and 92" are irrelevant (artifacts of data transmission). i want to use Excel VBA to select 1551, 1601, 1603, and 1604 (these are store numbers) so that i can copy those values and transpose paste them vertically. i will then go back and copy 378, 151, 157, and 83 (sales values) so that i can transpose paste them next to the store numbers. The next two rows of data contain the same store numbers but give the corresponding dollar values. i will only need to copy the dollar values so they can be transpose pasted vertically next to unit values (e.g. 378, 151, 157, and 83). Just being able to put my cursor on the first cell of interest in the row and run a macro to copy every other cell would speed up my work tremendously. i have tried using activecell and offset references to select a range to copy but have not been successful. Does any have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance for the help.

• Backing up VMs to a tape drive

  I've got myself one of these fancy tape drives, HP LTO2 with 200/400 GB cartridges. The st driver reports it like this: scsi 1:0:0:0: Sequential-Access HP Ultrium 2-SCSI T65D I can store and retrieve files like a charm using tar, both tar cf /dev/st0 somedirectory and tar xf /dev/st0 work flawless. However, what I really would like to backup are LVM LVs. They contain entire virtual machines with varying partition layouts, so using mount and tar is not an option. I've tried using something like dd if=/dev/VG/LV bs=64k of=/dev/st0 to achieve this, but there seem to be various problems associated with this approach. Firstly, I would like to be able to store more than 1 LV on a single tape. Now I guess I could seek to concatenate the data on the tape, but I think this would not work very well in an automated scenario with many different LVs of various sizes. Secondly, I would like to store a small XML file along with the raw data that contains some information about the VM contained in the LV. I could dump everything to a directory and tar it up - not very desirable, I would have to set aside huge amounts of scratch space. Is there an easier way to achieve this? Thirdly, from googling around it seems like it would be wise to use something like mbuffer when writing to the tape, to prevent what wikipedia calls "shoe-shining" the tape. However, I can't get anything useful done with mbuffer. The mbuffer man page suggests this for writing to a tape device: mbuffer -t -m 10M -p 80 -f -o $TAPE So I've tried this: dd if=/dev/VG/LV | mbuffer -t -m 10M -p 80 -f -d 64k -o /dev/st0 Note the added "-d 64k" to account for the 64k block size of the tape. However, reading data back from a tape written in this way never seems to yield any useful results - dd has been running for ages now, and managed to transfer only 361M of data from the tape. What's wrong here?

• How to repair a damage transaction log file for Exchange 2003

  Hi! Yesterday we had a power failure and the UPS did not work (it has worked perfect before). Everything seem to be ok when I started all the servers again except of the mail, when I try to mount the store I get the following message: “The database files in this store are corrupted” Server: Exchange 2003 running on a Small Business Server Latest full backup: one week old Backup program: Backup Exec 9.0 This is what I have done: 1. Copy every file in the MDBDATA folder (edb, stm, log) 2. Run Eseutil /d for priv1.edb 3. Run Eseutil /p for priv1.edb (took seven hours) 4. Run Isintig –fix –test alltests, now it breaks down. Isintig fails with the following error: Isinteg cannot initiate verification process. Please review the log file for more information. The problem is that there is no log file created. 5. Giving up on this route I decide to do a restore from the backup, it fails with the following error: Unable to read the header of logfile E00.log. Error -501, and the error: Information Store (5976) Callback function call ErrESECBRestoreComplete ended with error 0xC80001F5 The log file is damaged. My conclusion is that E00.log is damage, so how can I repair it so that I can restore the database? Or should I give up and try some other route?

• Windows 7 Not Recognizing Camera Nor iPhone as Camera

  I've been struggling with this one for a few days. I've recently upgraded an older computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Neither my digital camera (A Canon SD1200IS) nor iPhone are ever detected as cameras, nor ever show up as accessable in Explorer. With the Canon camera, no driver is required. It's supposed to work with the default Windows 7 drivers. However, in the Control Panel's Device Manager, I'm always seeing a yellow icon next to the "Canon Digital Camera" device. I've uninstalled the device and let Windows attempt to reinstall, but it can never find a driver to install. With the iPhone, it's very similar. One big difference, though, is that iTunes can see the iPhone and back it up, etc. However, again when I go to the Device Manager, there's a yellow icon next to the iPhone. I've uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, rebooted, deleted drivers, and let Window try to reinstall the driver, but it can never find the driver. So there seems to be some correlation that my machine can't detect cameras properly, and that it might be even a lower-level type of driver I'm struggling with. I know that USB however, does work, because I have have an external drive hooked into the machine. I've gone through the web and tried two hours worth of fixes, without success. I feel like if I can get the Canon camera detected, then the iPhone will be on it's way to being fixed too. BTW, I couldn't really find anything of use in the Event viewer. Any and all suggestions welcome.
