How do I enable/disable a stick pointing device in Ubuntu (9.10)? How can I configure clicking and scrolling with the stick pointer? (I can't click with the stick and scroll the page.)
I'm managing a small website, which allows people to register as members. Previously I used a google form to manage member registration, but now as the number of users becomes quite big I am switching to mysql. Currently I have around 500 members in the database, saved in a google spreadsheet. How can I do a bulk import from a google spreadsheet to a table in mysql? BTW I'm using phpmyadmin, so a solution for phpmyadmin is preferable :)
Thanks.
This is a windows 2000 domain issue.
I had an old win2000 PDC that was beginning to fail. So, trying to be pre-emptive, I installed a new BDC, then "demoted" the old PDC and took it off the network.
Now it appears that no member server can "find" the domain anymore. No logins work (for services or a RDP or anything).
What I've tried (based on googling):
Verified sysvol is shared on all servers.
Used nslookup to verify that DC's are being found.
netdiag /fix
meta data cleanup routines.
verified no firewall issues (port 389 etc)
seizing all roles to new PDC (I did that as part of the original promotion).
LMHOST file and Netbios settings.
At the moment it seems like I can get the DC's returned but cannot contact them. I'm at a loss.
My latest attempt was to remove a member server from the domain and try to "re-add" it. When I do that I get this message:
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cfwebtools.com
The following domain controllers were identified by the query:
db-dev1.cfwebtools.com
file-prod1.cfwebtools.com
cfwt-pdc2.cfwebtools.com
However no domain controllers could be contacted.
It then goes on to ask if I've checked my A record and made sure they are running.
Is there a way to force this domain to be seen?
I also shared sysvol (or double checked it) and restarted the dfsr service.
More information. I got looking at sysvol and found it was not shared on 2 of these servers. Only one of them (db-dev1) has a "good" or at least "populated" sys vol store. So I tried doing a "d2" recovery of my PDC against that good sysvol. But it never synchs - or at least it does not seem to synch.
I'm guessing if I could get sysvol and netlogin to kick in and replicate that would fix my issue. I think these DC's aren't responding because they are waiting for replication which is broken somehow.
Would taking down all the DC's except for db-dev1 fix the issue - at least temporarily? I know I can't just copy the sysvol stuff over to the other 2 can I?
I want to know how is data I/O takes place on flash drives which are typically EEPROM's . I thought so as I was writing a C Program that involves file handling .
For a normal HDD , that would involve returning the file pointer and reading or writing data to the disk which would be done by read/write HEAD . While in EEPROM's there is no read/write head , as it's works on mnemonic commands , So how come does the C file handling program works when I apply it to a file on flash drive ?
Hyper-Threading Technology makes a
single physical processor appear as two logical
processors; the physical execution resources are shared
and the architecture state is duplicated for the two
logical processors.
So, this means that there are two sets of basic registers such as Next Instruction Pointer, processor registers like AX, BX, CX etc physically embedded in the micro-processor chip,
OR they(arch. state) are made to look two sets by some low level duplication by software/OS.
On my laptop I use both the trackpad and an external USB mouse.
I'd like different settings for each device.
e.g. the mouse is high resolution so I prefer to use a slow mouse settings, and for the trackpad I prefer to use the "Enhance pointer precision" option.
But I can only seem to set these option for both devices, not individually.
Can this be done? [Windows 7]
How can I export the security member's list from a security group to an excel sheet. I've found some code on the web but I would need an UI or a software that can do this.
I'm open to Powershell tho...

Specifically, I'm interested in knowing what tools you keep loaded on your thumb drive when asked to deal with a family member or friend's personal computer issue? Off the top of my head, I can think of things like:
AVG
Advanced WindowsCare
SpyBot
etc.
...but this question is not necessarily limited to virus/malware/spyware issues.
as title says, I have to find all the groups that the user is a member of, and deleting its membership from all of them.
I've tried this:
get-adgroup -filter * | where {(Get-ADGroupMember $_ | foreach {$_.PrimarySmtpAdress}) -contains "[email protected]"}
but it doesnt return anything (although THERE ARE some items that have to be returned)
as for the deletion I found no way to do it, could someone give me an example of a code that does this?
Im talking about security groups.
This is really weird. So I have a DHCP server running and working on my Member server in win2008 but when i run ipconfig /all in cmd it says DHCP not enabled. Also, BGinfo says i dont have a DHCP. I checked my DHCP and it is running and servicing clients.
Does anyone know what is going on?
I have photoshop 5.5 working just fine under windows vista, I upgraded my PC to windows 7 and when I start photoshop 5.5 it just hangs.
I see the main screen open but nothing happens and I just get the busy sign out of the mouse pointer, with Photoshop not completing the start.
I searched online and some reported the same issue and were able to solve the issue by deleting Photoshop setting or preference file. I did that, but still the issue is present.
When ever I run an Exchange 2010 SP1 Discovery Search I get the following error:
"Search failed as the results link to the target mailbox '[email protected]' couldn't be generated."
I have checked to ensure the discovery mailbox is enabled
I created a new Discovery mailbox. I get the same error with both Mailboxes.
The user account I am using to run the search is a member of the "Discovery Management" security group.
I get the same error whether I use the Shell or the ECP to run the
search
How can I manage a domain with the "Active Directory Users and Computers" from a computer that is not on that domain? I realize I'll need some domain admin (or less) credentials, but that's fine.
I have 2 scenarios where I'd like to do this:
From a machine on Domain 1 but I'd also like to manage Domain 2 (the 2 domains are in no way related)
From a laptop that is not a member of any domain.
If we can figure out #2, that will be "good enough" but #1 would be nice too.

For some reason when I boot my laptop now (winxp), it doesn't start explorer.exe automatically; I'm left with a desktop background and a mouse pointer. I have to run taskman and start explorer.exe manually.
Recently I had Spyware Dr. detect a severe threat, and I was wondering if there was anyway to re-hookup explorer.exe on startup.
I have an iPad that is connected to the Wireless router in my network. However, this router is connected to my Win 2008 server, which in its turn is connected to the internet. The iPad is unable to connect to the public url for the exchange server on the server (www.example.com) and has erratic internet access, where Windows laptops are provided with faultless internet access, even when they are not a member of the domain.
How do I solve this?
I have a user ftpadmin:
-bash-3.2$ id ftpadmin
uid=10001(ftpadmin) gid=2525(fsg) groups=2525(fsg),10005(git)
The important group to note is "git"
Then I have my git repository:
ls -al
drwxrwxr-x 7 git git 4096 Apr 20 14:17 fsg
So ftpadmin is a member of git, and git has given all permissions to people in the group. Why do I see this when I login as ftpadmin:
-bash-3.2$ ls -al /home/git/
ls: /home/git/fsg: Permission denied
...
Seems like I should have permission...
I am doing a cleanup of some AD groups that are no longer used. One of the AD groups I could not delete because it seems that a member has this group set as the primary group (which I assume someone did by accident). Is there an easy way to find out who has this group set as primary?
When we used to run our own Exchange server I do not recall getting emails sent back to me that I sent to a distribution list of which I'm a member. However, in our current situation I am getting emails that I sent. Is this standard Exchange behavior?
Is there a way to control whether you get your own emails sent back to you when sent to a distribution list that you are on?
Is it possible to safe all changes a user does in his home directory?
The idea is to be able to recover a home directory if a file is deleted or overwritten. My problem is having an old family member (80+ years) who wants to learn how to use a computer. For me it would be easier to recover the home directory from any abuse or mistakes that the user might do.
Is there an easy solution, which is quite failsafe?
I have a local user of a windows Server 2008 that is a member of builtin Users group, a program that run this user need to have write access to a Key located in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, can i enable this user to have write access in HKLM without adding it to Administrators group ?
Thanks.
Hello, after a lovely blue screen my vista 64 machine decided to reconfigure one of my drives to no longer be part of my raid volume. So now my raid fails as it only has one member disk. This happened to me about 6 months ago and I just changed the disk in question back to a raid disk and all was well. However I cant seem to find that option in my bios or raid config anymore :(
Any help would be appreciated
When I try to drag and drop a file from the physical machine into the vpc window the mouse stops responding inside vpc window. The keyboard keeps working fine and I'm still able to move the mouse pointer in the vpc window but won't be able to click on any folder or file anymore.
Has anyone experienced this before can elaborate on how to fix this?
I have an AMD Radeon 5850 (about to be 2), and today I read that Rift is a member of Nvidia's "the way it's meant to be played" program. It was suggested that as such the developers would not be speaking with or working directly with AMD for optimization, and that it would be unlikely that Crossfire support would be added until the game's release.
Are any of these implications likely? Or does it just mean that Nvidia is working closely with the developers for optimization and marketing support?
