  • CSS: Why is my floated <span> being displayed below an <a>nchor in IE6/7 but not IE8/FF

    - by gsquare567
    i'm getting this weird CSS bug in ie6/7 (but not in ie8 or firefox): for some reason, my nchor and , two inline elements, which are on the same line, are being displayed on different lines. the span is floating to the right, too! heres the HTML: <div class="sidebartextbg"><a href="journey.php" style="width:50%" title="Track past, present and future milestones during your employment">Journey</a> <span class="notificationNumber">2</span> <!-- JOURNEY COUNT: end --> </div> and here's the CSS: .sidebartextbg { background:url("../images/sidebartextbg.gif") repeat-x scroll 0 0 transparent; border-bottom:1px solid #A3A88B; font-size:14px; line-height:18px; margin:0 auto; padding:5px 9px; width:270px; } .notificationNumber { background:url("../images/oval_edges.gif") no-repeat scroll 0 0 transparent; color:#FFFFFF; float:right; padding:0 7px; position:relative; text-align:center; width:17px; } so: why would the floated span be displayed on the line under the nchor? thanks!

  • Leftover Nav Bar in Landscape View

    - by Rob Bonner
    Hello, I am working to force a view into landscape mode, and have picked up all kinds of cool tips to make this happen, but am stuck on one item that is left on the screen. I have my XIB file laid out in landscape, and in my code I create the view controller normally: RedeemViewController *aViewController = [[RedeemViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"RedeemViewController" bundle:nil]; aViewController.hidesBottomBarWhenPushed = YES; aViewController.wantsFullScreenLayout = YES; [[self navigationController] pushViewController:aViewController animated:YES]; Inside the controller viewDidLoad I complete the following: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarOrientation:UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight]; [[self navigationController] setNavigationBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; [UIView beginAnimations:@"View Flip" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:.75]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; if (self.interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait) { self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformIdentity; self.view.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(degreesToRadian(90)); self.view.bounds = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 480, 320); } [UIView commitAnimations]; What I end up with is a perfectly rotated view, with a grey vertical bar on the left side (see pic). So to the question, how do I get rid of the bar? Edit: I am pretty sure this is the navigation bar that is not being hidden. This is a duplicate of another post, with some modified code, the other question was being answered with the bug.

  • How to have a user control as a ListBoxItem

    - by Harry
    I want to bind a user control (View) to a ListBoxItem. The ListBox is bound to a collection of ViewModels. I have set the ListBox's ItemTemplate as so: <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <View:ContactView/> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> But all I get are blank ListBoxItems. I can click on them, but nothing is showing visually. My ContactView code is very simply: <Border> <DockPanel> <StackPanel DockPanel.Dock="Right" Orientation="Vertical"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=ContactFirstName, FallbackValue=FirstName}" FontWeight="Bold" Margin="5, 0, 5, 0"></TextBlock> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=ContactLastName, FallbackValue=LastName}" FontWeight="Bold" Margin="5, 0, 5, 0"></TextBlock> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=ContactNumber, FallbackValue=Number}" Margin="5, 0, 5, 0"></TextBlock> </StackPanel> </DockPanel> </Border> What could be wrong with this? Thanks.

  • html in do_GET() method of a simple Python webserver

    - by Meeri_Peeri
    I am relatively new to Python but have been doing a lot of different things with it recently and I am liking it a lot. However, I ran into trouble/block with the following code. import http.server import socketserver import glob import random class Server(http.server.SimpleHTTPRequestHandler): def do_GET(self): self.send_response(200, 'OK') self.send_header('Content-type', 'html') self.end_headers() self.wfile.write(bytes("<html> <head><title> Hello World </title> </head> <body>", 'UTF-8')) images = glob.glob('*.jpg') rand = random.randint(0,len(images)-1) imagestring = "<img src = \"" + images[rand] + "\" height = 1028 width = 786 align = \"right\"/> </body> </html>" self.wfile.write(bytes(imagestring, 'UTF-8')) def serve_forever(port): socketserver.TCPServer(('', port), Server).serve_forever() if __name__ == "__main__": Server.serve_forever(8000) What I am trying to do here is grab a random image from multiple images in the directory and add it into the response to a web request. The code works fine but when I access the server via browser, the image is not displayed. The html of the page is as intended though. The permissions on the files are 755. Also I tried to create an index.html file in the do_GET method. That didn't work either. I mean the index.html was generated fine, but the response in the browser this time did not show anything (not even the hello world in the title). Am I missing anything very simple here? I was thinking should I overload the handle_request of the underlying SocketServer.BaseServer as the documentation says you should never override BaseHTTPServer's handle() method and should rather override the corresponding do_* method?

  • Positioning a Comment Input Field

    - by John
    Hello, What is a good way to give the input field below the three characteristics listed? Characteristics: -Always 30 px from the left side of the browser window. -Always 30 px below the words "Add a comment" if no comments have been added. -Always 30 px below the preceding comment if one or more comment has been added. Thanks in advance, John HTML / PHP Code: <div class="addacomment"><label for="title">Add a comment:</label></div> <div class="commentbox"><input class="commentsubfield" name="title" type="title" id="title" maxlength="1000"></div> CSS (thusfar I have no declarations for the "commentbox" selector): .commentsubfield { width: 390px; height: 90px; border: 1px solid #999999; padding: 5px; } .addacomment { position:absolute; width:250px; left:30px; top:180px; text-align: left; margin-bottom:3px; padding:0px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color:#000000; }

  • Positioning objects in views during re-orientation in iPad

    - by Arni
    iPad Gurus: Apple wants us to support all orientations. I take that to mean that a particular layout should either rotate so that all objects are positioned relatively the same OR, if that doesn't look good, then they ought to be repositioned, OR two views ought to be designed and built. If I rely on the built-in rotation mechanism, the objects either get resized or they straddle the edge of the page in one orientation or the other, or they disappear from view altogether. I can't seem to find the right settings to get the objects to align clearly so they are seen in each orientation. Repositioning leads to a lot of if statements in the View Controller. So I don't think Apple had that in mind. I tried replacing views and even view controllers in "willRotateToInterfaceOrientation" method, but that either causes crashes or the portrait views end up in landscape unexpectedly and vv. Moreover, two view controllers means double the coding for the same view. There must be proper way to handle orientation changes, but I have searched the internet and documentation and sample code in vain for something that works. How is this done properly? Thanks!

  • flex positioning a button within a panel

    - by pfunc
    All I'm trying to do is place a button inside of a panel, rotate that button (so it is vertical) and place it on the edge of the panel. I can;t seem to do this correctly. Here is my code: <mx:Panel id="weekList" width="260" height="100%" x="-500" title="Weeks" > <mx:List id="weekButtonList" width="260" borderVisible="false" contentBackgroundAlpha="0" dataProvider="{_data.mappoints.week.@number}" itemClick="onWeekClick(event);" > <mx:itemRenderer> <mx:Component> <mx:Button buttonMode="true" right="20" width="260" height="50" label="Week {data}" /> </mx:Component> </mx:itemRenderer> </mx:List> <mx:HBox id="closeButtonHolder" rotation="90" width="100" > <mx:Button label="OPEN" click="weekListToggle()" /> </mx:HBox> </mx:Panel> If you look at the part of the script you will see I am trying to rotate it and move it to the left. I am just trying to move it somewhere, and nothing is working. Also, the text seems to dissapear when I rotate it on a 90% axis. Anyone know what I can do for this?

  • Using "margin: 0 auto;" in Internet Explorer 8

    - by stusmith
    I'm in the process of doing some advance IE8 testing, and it seems that the old technique of using "margin: 0 auto;" doesn't work in all cases in IE8. The following piece of HTML gives a centered button in FF3, Opera, Safari, Chrome, IE7, and IE8 compat, but NOT in IE8 standard: <div style="height: 500px; width: 500px; background-color: Yellow;"> <input type="submit" style="display: block; margin: 0 auto;" /> </div> (As a work-around I can add an explicit width to the button). So the question is: which browsers are correct? Or is this one of those cases where the behaviour is undefined? (My thinking is that all the browsers are incorrect - shouldn't the button be 100% width if it's "display: block"?) UPDATE: I'm being a dunce. Since input isn't a block-level element, I should have just contained it within a div with "text-align: center". Having said that, for curiosity's sake, I'd still like to know whether the button should or shouldn't be centered in the example above. FOR THE BOUNTY: I know I'm doing odd things in the example, and as I point out in the update, I should have just aligned it center. For the bounty, I'd like references to the specs that answer: If I set "display: block", should the button be width 100%? Or is this undefined? Since the display is block, should "margin: 0 auto;" center the button, or not, or undefined?

  • IE8 ignores jQuery UI 'dialog' minHeight and height settings

    - by Kev
    I'm using jQuery 1.4.4 with jQueryUI 1.8.7 to display a modal dialog box. I'm having a problem where IE8 renders a scrollbar and appears to ignore the minHeight and height options in all the many different combinations I've tried them in. In Chrome 8 and Firefox 3.6 my dialogue looks like: In IE 8 it looks like: The markup and script looks like: <a id="create" href="#">Create New Thing</a> <div id="dlg-create-thing" title="Create new thing?"> <form name="create-thing-form" id="dlg-create-thing-form"> <p style="text-align:left"> <span>Name: <input id="thingName" name="thingName" maxlength="12" size="30" /></span> <br /><br /> <b>Thing options:</b><br /><br /> <input type="radio" id="option1" name="theoptions" value="0" checked="checked" />Use this option<br /> <input type="radio" id="option1AndMem" name="theoptions" value="1" />Use this other option </p> </form> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { $("#dlg-create-thing").dialog({ autoOpen: false, resizable: false, width: 500, modal: true, minHeight: 280, buttons: { "Create": function () { /* do stuff */ }, "Cancel": function () { /* do other stuff */} } }); $("body").delegate("a[id='create']", "click", function () { $("#dlg-create-thing").dialog('open'); return false; } ); }); </script> How can I fix this (preferably in a nice browser agnostic way, but I'd settle for anything)?

  • replacing elements horizontally and vertically in a 2D array

    - by wello horld
    the code below ask for the user's input for the 2D array size and prints out something like this: (say an 18x6 grid) .................. .................. .................. .................. .................. .................. code starts here: #include <stdio.h> #define MAX 10 int main() { char grid[MAX][MAX]; int i,j,row,col; printf("Please enter your grid size: "); scanf("%d %d", &row, &col); for (i = 0; i < row; i++) { for (j = 0; j < col; j++) { grid[i][j] = '.'; printf("%c ", grid[i][j]); } printf("\n"); } return 0; } I now ask the user for a string, then ask them where to put it for example: Please enter grid size: 18 6 Please enter word: Hello Please enter location: 0 0 Output: Hello............. .................. .................. .................. .................. .................. Please enter location: 3 4 Output: .................. .................. .................. ..Hello........... .................. .................. program just keeps going. Any thoughts on how to modify the code for this? PS: Vertical seems way hard, but I want to start on horizontal first to have something to work on.

  • [jQuery] Sort contents alphabetically

    - by James
    So I am appending the following after an AJAX call, and this AJAX call may happen several time, returning several data items. And I am trying to use Tinysort [http://plugins.jquery.com/project/TinySort] to sort the list everytime, so the new items added are integrated nicely and sorted alphabetically. It unfortunately doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas? I mean, the data itself is being correctly appended, but unfortunately the sorting isn't occurring. var artists = []; $.each(data.artists, function(k, v) { artists.push('<section id="artist:' + v.name + '" class="artist"><div class="span-9"><img alt="' + v.name + '" width="34" height="34" class="photo" src="' + v.photo + '" /><strong>' + v.name + '</strong><br/><span>' + v.events + ' upcoming gig'); if (v.events != 1) { artists.push('s'); } artists.push('</span></div><div class="span-2 align-right last">Last</div><div class="clear"></div></section>'); }); $('div.artists p').remove(); $('div.artists div.next').remove(); $('div.artists').append(artists.join('')).append('<div class="next"><a href="#">Next</a></div>'); $('div.artists section').tsort('section[id]', {orderby: 'id'}); Thanks!

  • jCarousel jQuery ajax loading 1000 records

    - by user1714862
    I'm using jCarousel to present a vertical scolling list of +-1000 names. I am using ajax to load the data 100 records at a time then when all the data has loaded I just let the jCarousel loop in the DOM. I have the ajax and loop all working but would like to make the code work no matter how large the total record count becomes. 1) I'd like to eliminate the 1201 fixed number and use a variable. 2) I currently loop on every record I see (carousel.first) to see if it matches my reload position(s) (albeit the loop is ony 12x it still seems a little "loopy") Any suggestions on improving this? function mycarousel_itemLoadCallback(carousel, state) { //if (carousel.has(carousel.first, carousel.last)) { //return; //} var getCount = 100; // Number of records to grab at a time var maxCount = 1201; // total possible number of records var visible = 9; // the number of records you can see in the window so this creates a pre-load by this number of records for (var i = 1; i < maxCount; i+=getCount ) { if (carousel.first === 1 || carousel.first === (i-visible)){ var getFrom = i; var getTo = getFrom+(getCount-1); //alert('TOP Record ='+carousel.first+'\n Now GET '+getFrom+'-'+getTo); jQuery.get('#ajaxscript#', { first: getFrom, last: getTo }, function(xml) { mycarousel_itemAddCallback(carousel, getFrom, getTo, xml); }, 'xml' ); break; } } };

  • JQUERY - how Two elements - IMG - DIV when hover over IMG show/hide the DIV - added with hover hide/

    - by Jan Fosgerau
    Im very new to the wonder that is jquery. and i just figure out how to make my img buttons show/hide with a opacity difference (as such) <script type="text/javascript"> <![CDATA[ $(".ExcommKnap").mouseover(function () { $(this).stop().fadeTo('fast', 0.5, function(){}) }); $(".ExcommKnap").mouseout(function () { $(this).stop().fadeTo('fast', 1.0, function(){}) }); ]]> </script> which is good and all. but i also need to make the button when hovered over show text just above it that is specific to that button. i made these here elements that are looped in a for each. <div style="top:10px; width:755px;text-align:right; position:absolute; "> <div id="Page-{@id}" class="headlinebox"> <xsl:value-of select="@nodeName"/> </div> </div> <a href="{umbraco.library:NiceUrl(@id)}"> <img class="ExcommKnap" src="{$media/data[@alias='umbracoFile']}" /> </a> i need to make the individual text appear when hovered over its button. hence i have the id="page-{@id}" looped out along and need to get this place in the jquery code i presume. so when i hover over a img class="ExcommKnap" it makes the correct text visible. But i need the div id="page-{id}" to be invisible to begin with on pageload and then visible when its button is being hovered over. can anyone help ?

  • What CSS do I need to make my site more responsive?

    - by user2938757
    My site is: http://library.skybundle.com I feel like I almost have a responsive site. I did all the CSS styling myself. It is a Wordpress site but I completely edited the CSS of the original theme, so it is night-and-day different than it used to be. The original theme was mostly just for a canvas for me to work with, since I am not an expert in PHP and we wanted a Wordpress site for easy editing later on. Thanks to stackoverflow, I now have a footer that sticks to the bottom of every page and everything mostly looks good -- the way we want it anyway. The only thing missing now is the we want browser windows on MOBILE devices, such as on an iPhone, to automatically adjust the layout of the content in the body (wrapper). For example, on the main page (library.skybundle.com), I would like those two big icons two become vertically aligned as soon as the browser window sizes to a small, mostly vertical size, like that of a mobile phone. Take this site, for example: http://freedomsoundproductions.securesb.net/ This is what we would like it to do. So one a page with a sidebar, the content to the right of the sidebar should basically jump into the same "column" as the left sidebar and form one single long column. Just like in the example site above. This should all be possible via CSS. People in other forums seem to want me to use jQuery and stuff, but I can only use CSS, and I know that this must be possible without having to resort to jQuery, HTML, or other code.

  • CSS 100 percent height body and element

    - by Tim
    I am having an issue making one of my elements 100% within an overall layout that is 100%. I have tried different positioning solutions and I either end up with hidden content the floats behind the footer at the bottom, or the content ends up going behind the footer, and carrys on after the footer. Here is what I have for the page layout. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en-US"> <head> <style> *{margin:0} html,body{margin:0; padding:0; height:100%} .wrapper{position:relative; margin:0 auto -200px; height:auto !important; height:100%; min-height:100%} .container{width:930px; margin:0 auto; text-align:left} .right{float:right; width:680px; background:#FFF; margin:60px 10px 0 0; padding:0} .left{float:left; width:240px} .content{padding:10px} .footer{position:absolute; width:100%} .footer,.push{height:200px} </style> </head> <body> <div class="wrapper"> left content footer </div> </body> </html> The layout for the page being 100% height and footer at the bottom works it just the div with the class name content that I would like to be 100% as well and push the footer further down if the content reaches the footer and not disappear. Any help most appreciated. http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/7725/screenshotbj.png

  • Do double forward slashes direct IE to use specific css?

    - by kjh
    I have just found something very weird while developing a website. While trying to get a div element to display across the top of the screen, I noticed that I wasn't achieving a desired result in any browser except for old versions of IE. In order to test some different code, instead of deleting the faulty line, I used '//' to comment it out (I'm not really even sure if that works in css) but what happened was, the compatible browsers used the uncommented code, while IE used the code marked by '//'. here is the code: #ban-menu-div{ position:fixed;top:0; //position:relative; //<-- IE keeps the banner with rel pos while the other display:block; // browsers used fixed margin:auto; padding:0px; width:100%; text-align:center; background:black; } so basically, it seems as though // can be used to instruct newer browsers to ignore specific lines of code, and instruct older versions of IE to use it? If this is common practice someone please let me know. it sure makes developing for older browsers a hell of a lot easier
