How do I fix a corrupted copy of .Net Framework on Windows 7?

I receive the following error when trying to run applications that require .net Framework 3.5: "Could not load file or assembly 'System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest." I've tried numerous fixes, such as reinstalling through ad/remove software, copying the .net folder over from a clean windows 7 install, and running the .net cleanup tool. Just wondering if anyone has run into this issue before, or has an idea on how to fix it.

In the Site.css file I added some new CSS rules to make everything more presentable. .posters-featured { width:840px; background-color:#efefef;}.posters-featured a:link, a:visited, a:active, a:hover { color: #000033; }.posters-featured a:hover { background-color: #85c465; } 6) I run the application again and this time I do not choose any category, I simply navigate to the PosterList.aspx page. Explaining Git to someone new to revision control

I've recently decided to jump into the whole world of revision control to work on some open source projects I have. I looked around (subversion, mercurial, git, etc) and found that Git seemed to make more sense conceptually to me. I've set everything up on my computer (opensuse) and made an account on gitorious (let me know if there is a more simple/better hosting provider). I understand Git from a conceptual point of view (work locally, commit to a local repo, others can now checkout from you, right?). But where does gitorious come into play? I commit to them as well as committing locally? Apart from conceptually, I don't quite understand HOW it works when it comes to making a local repository and running git init inside a folder and that HEAD file. Keep in mind I have never used any form of revision control ever before. So even the most basic concepts are foreign to me. As I post this, I'm also reading up and trying to figure it out myself.

Add Control Panel items to Windows 8.1 Search

Windows 8.1 claims to search in all indexed locations. However when I tried to open "Mail" (i.e. Mlcfg32.cpl) by typing "Mail" in Search, magic didn't happen. Instead I had to scramble all the way through Control Panel. Is it possible to add Control Panel items to those indexed locations? Or is it just the thing Microsoft forgot about? (e.g. forgot on intention, so users would make use of their new "Settings" applet).

My computer is running an AMD Phenom II quad core CPU but it didn't come with the piece of software that I see people have in a lot of youtube videos. The software is kind of like the ATI catalyst control center but for the AMD processor instead. It shows things like current core temperature, clock speed, etc and I am not sure but maybe it also allows the user to make changes to those things from the control center as well. I am having a hard time finding the download for this online, especially since I don't even have the name for it.

what's a good approach to working with multiple databases?

I'm working on a project that has its own database call it InternalDb, but also it queries two other databases, call them ExternalDb1 and ExternalDb2. Both ExternalDb1 and ExternalDb2 are actually required by a few other projects. I'm wondering what the best approach for dealing with this is? Currently, I've just created a project for each of these external databases and then generated Edmx and entities using the entity-framework approach. My thought was that I could then include these projects in any of my solutions that require access to these databases. Also, I don't have any separate business layers. I just have a solution like below: Project.Domain ExternalDb1Project.Domain ExternalDb2Project.Domain Project.Web So my Domain projects contain the data access as well as the POCOs generated by Entity Framework and any business logic. But I'm not sure if this is a good approach. For example if I want to do Validation in my Project.Domain on the entities in the InternalDb, it's fine. But if I want to do Validation for entities from either of the ExternalDbs, then I wonder where it should go? To be more specific, I retrieve Employees from ExternalDb1Project.Domain. However, I want to make sure they are Active. Where should this Validation go? How to architect a project like this at a high level? Also, I want to make sure that I use IoC for my data contexts so I can create Fakes when writing tests. I wonder where the interfaces for these various data contexts would reside?

Console-like control that allows full control over individual text formatting

I'm tinkering with writing a simple text-based role-playing game. I would like to use WinForms, and utilize WinForm controls for the UI and simple text for the output. The catch is, I would like to have complete control over the formatting of the individual text - some words being different colors, etc. A simple console control would suffice, as that would provide control over text colors, but it would be nice to also be able to change style, font and size. Less important: it would be nice to have complete control over where text appears in the control through a coordinate system, as with DOS windows of old. I'd appreciate suggestions on the best method of implementing this. Perhaps there is a better method I had not considered for rendering the output of a text-based game.

XAML get new width and height for Canvas

I have searched through many times but have not seen this before. Probably really simple question but can't wrap my head around it. Wrote a VSTO add-in for Excel that draws a Grid dynamically. Then launches a new window and replaces the contents of the Canvas with the generated Grid. The problem is with printing. When I call the print procedure the canvas.height and canvas.width returned is the old value prior to replacing it with the grid. Control.Invoke() vs. Control.BeginInvoke()

First of all, I would like to apologize for my bad grammar since English is not my native tongue. This is my understanding: Control.Invoke(delegated_method) // Executes on the thread wich the control was created on witch holds its handle ,typically this would be the main thread of a winform application . Control.BeginInvoke(delegated_method // Executes asynchronously on a threadPool Thread . According to MSDN, it says Executes a delegate asynchronously on the thread that the control's underlying handle was created on. My QUESTION : Am I to understand that beginInvoke treats the main thread in this matter as it would the thread pool, and execute the delegated method on the main thread when it "gets a chance" ? Another question which is raised, is it possible to create a control not on the main thread ? if so could someone give me an example?

Using IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) for ASP.NET MVC

I use a simple ASP.NET MVC web (the template you use when you create a new site) and the web works as expected in my live environment. I now try to use IIS Application Request Routing version 2. I have a rule that send all reuqests to a different server that match a rule. The settings are a bit like this: http://blogs.iis.net/wonyoo/archive/2008/07/09/application-request-routing-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy.aspx My rule is just a bit different it is /shop(.*). Only requests that contain shop are send to a different server. I have to use rewrite, not redirect (The same as in the Picture) This works as long as the web the original requests go to is no ASP.NET MVC web. I tried to use a plain htm file in the webfolder and it worked. If put a compiled ASP.NET application into the webfolder it worked. But as soon as I put an ASP.NET MVC web into the folder, request arr served by this application. My understanding is that the ARR should kick in before the web application gets the chance to handle the request. Did anybody use ARR sucessfully as a reverse proxy for a ASP.NET MVC web? EDIT Here is the resulting web config when the rewrite roule is entered. Sharing an assembly between ASP.NET and Silverlight

Hi, I've created an assembly to share it between my main app and the silverlight app. At the beginning it looked like it was going to work but now I get this exception: "System.IO.FileNotFoundException was caught, Message="Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml.Linq". I'm using .NET 3.5 Sp1 and Silverlight 3. That shared assembly uses System.Xml.Linq, and it cannot find it... I think because it is trying to find that version in the .NET framework instead looking in the silverlight one. How can I fix this? Cheers. Maintaining ISAPI Rewrite Path with the ASP.NET tilde (~)

My team is upgrading from ASP.NET 3.5 to ASP.NET 4.0. We are currently using Helicon ISAPI Rewrite to map http://localhost/<account-name>/default.aspx to http://localhost/<virtual-directory>/default.aspx?AccountName=<account-name> where <account-name> is a query string variable and <virtual-directory> is a virtual directory (naturally). Before the upgrade the tilde (~) resolved to http://localhost/<account-name>/... (which I want it to do) and after the upgrade the tilde resolves to http://localhost/<virtual-directory>/... which results in an error because the <account-name> query string is required. I'd like to avoid going down the road of replacing everything with relative paths because there are several features in our system that use the entire URL instead of just the relative path. For what it's worth I'm using IIS7 in Windows 7, Visual Studio 2010 with ASP.NET 4.0 and the 64 bit Helicon ISAPI Rewrite. If I switch back to the ASP.NET 3.5 version then it still works fine (leading me to believe nothing changed in IIS unless it's within the 4.0 app pool - when I switch back and forth between 3.5 and 4.0 I have to change the app pool in IIS). I am trying to use NServiceBus with an ASP.NET MVC 2 website (using VS 2010 and the .NET 4.0 framework). However, when I run the site on my local machine, I get the following error: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. Searching for flexible way to specify conenction string used by APS.NET membership

Hi, I develop an asp.net web application and I use ASP.NET membership provider. The application uses the membership schema and all required objects inside main application database However, during development I have to switch to various databases, for different development and testing scenarios. For this I have an external connection strings section file and also an external appsettings section, which allow me to not change main web.config but switch the db easily, by changing setting only in appsettings section. My files are as below: <connectionStrings configSource="connections.config"> </connectionStrings> <appSettings file="local.config"> .... ConnectionStrings looks as usual: <connectionStrings> <add name="MyDB1" connectionString="..." ... /> <add name="MyDB2" connectionString="..." ... /> .... </connectionStrings> And local.config as below <appSettings> <add key="ConnectionString" value="MyDB2" /> My code takes into account to use this connection string But membership settings in web.config contains the connection string name directly into the setting, like <add name="MembershipProvider" connectionStringName="MyDB2" ...> .... <add name="RoleProvider" connectionStringName="MyDB2" ...> Because of this, every time I have to edit them too to use the new db. Is there any way to config membership provider to use an appsetting to select db connection for membership db? Or to "redirect" it to read connection setting from somewhere else? Or at least to have this in some external file (like local.config) Maybe is some easy way to wrap asp.net membership provider intio my own provider which will just read connection string from where I want and pass it to original membership provider, and then just delegate the whole membership functionality to asp.net membership provider. Trying to build a Drupal-like CMS in ASP.NET MVC - Newbie Questions

I am new to ASP.NET MVC, and the ASP.NET technology in general, so, please, excuse the stupidity of my questions. I have a lot of experience with php development and CMS customization (Drupal and Wordpress mainly), and I wanted to know whether some techniques could be applied in asp.net mvc. I want to know what exactly could be modified without recompiling an already built application Can I edit the views without recompiling the app. Can I create custom themes ? Can I add plugins compiled as dlls and use them at runtime. Can I "mark" the assembly in such a way that the web application will check on the next request and will reference it, without me manually adding it to the project and recompiling. I've heard that this is possible. I will make sure to add more when something comes up. The reason I am asking is because I'd like to try and develop a Drupal-like CMS (custom types, views, etc) in asp.net mvc. The dynamism of php will be quite a challenge to replicate in a compiled technology, yet I am ready to try.

Authenticating to Google Search Appliance using Basic HTTP auth and ASP.NET (VB)

I've run into a snag though which has to do with authentication between the Google Search Appliance and ASP. Normally, when asking for secure pages from the search appliance, the search appliance asks for credentials, then uses these credentials to try and access the secure results. If this attempt is successful, the page shows up in the results list. Since ASP is contacting the search appliance on the client's behalf, it will need to collect credentials and pass them along to the search appliance. I have tried a couple of different documented ways of accomplishing this, but they don't seem to work. Project setup for an ADO.NET/WCF DataService

I'd like to implement a ADO.NET/WCF DataService and I am wondering what's the best way to setup a project in VS2008 SP1 for this purpose. Currently I have an ASP.NET web application project (not of "WebSite" project type). The data access layer is an Entity model (EF version 1) with SQL Server database. I have the Entity Model in a separate DLL project and the web application project references to this assembly for all data accesses. The ADO.NET/WCF DataService needs to communicate with the Entity model/database as well. It has to be hosted on the same web server (IIS 7.5) together with the web application. Since the DataService is not directly related to that specific web application (though it will provide and modify data from/in the same database the web application uses as well) my basic idea was to separate the DataService in its own new project (which also references the Entity Model DLL). Now I have seen that there is no project type "ADO.NET/WCF DataService" in VS2008 SP1. It seems only possible to add a DataService as an element to other existing projects, for instance Web Application projects. Why isn't there a separate DataService project type? Does this mean now that I have to add the DataService as an element to my Web Application project? Or shall I create a new Web Application project and add a DataService to it? (I could delete the pregenerated default.aspx since I do not need any web pages in this project.) What's the best way? Thank you for suggestions in advance!
