    I have a decimal variable which represents a donation amount. Currently I am displaying it on screen as a currency like so- DonationAmount.ToString("C"); This gives the following output (given a US locale) 1 -> $1.00 2 -> $2.00 0.5 -> $0.50 I am happy with the first two example, but want to have "0.5" show as "50c". My current solution is with a conditional- if (DonationAmount > 1) return (DonationAmount * 100m).ToString() + "c"; else return DonationAmount.ToString("C"); Is there a better way?

  • Best practices to deal with "slightly different" branches of source code

    This question is rather agnostic than related to a certain version control program. Assume there is a source code tree under certain distributed version control. Let's call it A. At some point somebody else clones it and gets its own copy. Let's call it B. I'll call A and B branches, even if some version control tools have different definitions for branches (some might call A and B repositories). Let's assume that branch A is the "main" branch. In the context of distributed version control this only means that branch A is modified much more actively and the owner of branch B periodically syncs (pulls) new updates from branch A. Let's consider that a certain source file in branch B contains a class (again, it's also language agnostic). The owner of branch B considers that some class methods are more appropriate and groups them together by moving them inside the class body. Functionally nothing has changed - this is a very trivial refactoring of the code. But the change gets reflected in diffs. Now, assuming that this change from branch B will never get merged into branch A, the owner of branch B will always get this difference when pulling from branch A and merging into his own workspace. Even if there's only one such trivial change, the owner of branch B needs to resolve conflicts every time when pulling from branch A. As long as branches A and B are modified independently, more and more conflicts like this appear. What is the workaround for this situation? Which workflow should the owner of branch B follow to minimize the effort for periodically syncing with branch A?

Question How can I format my string so the counter would look like this: 00:01:23 Instead of: 123 Things I've tried Things I've tried so far: for (int i = 0; i < 1; i++) { _Counter += 1; labelUpTime.Text = _Counter.ToString(); } My timer's interval is set to: 1000 (so it adds 1 every second).     What is the best way for converting phone numbers into international format (E.164) using Java? Given a 'phone number' and a country id (let's say an ISO country code), I would like to convert it into a standard E.164 international format phone number. I am sure I can do it by hand quite easily - but I would not be sure it would work correctly in all situations. Which Java framework/library/utility would you recommend to accomplish this? P.S. The 'phone number' could be anything identifiable by the general public - such as * (510) 786-0404 * 1-800-GOT-MILK * +44-(0)800-7310658 that last one is my favourite - it is how some people write their number in the UK and means that you should either use the +44 or you should use the 0. The E.164 format number should be all numeric, and use the full international country code (e.g.+44)

    I have a decimal datatype with a precision of (18, 8) in my database and even if its value is simply 14.765 it will still get displayed as 14.76500000 when I use Response.Write to return its value into a webpage. Is it possible to override its default ToString method to return the number in the format #,###,##0.######## so that it only displays relevant decimal places? UPDATE I'm assuming that when one outputs number on a page like <%= item.price %> (where item.price is a number) that the number's ToString method is being called? I'm trying to avoid having to change every instance where the value is displayed by defaulting the ToString() format somehow.

Now, I would like to have a string with multiple parameters formatted (truncated): printf("%.*s", "%.*s", 3, 3, "abcdef", "xyz123"); but the program crashes. What is the correct syntax? Thank You.

    I have a very big list of file names that end with a the following: .c .h .cpp and much more. I need to extract file names that end with .c and .h How do I do that? Also, how could I add quotation marks to the beginning and end of the word, followed with a comma? For example, if I have this in the list: mi_var.c How could I extract it from a very big list, and everything else that ends in .c and replace it to have quotation marks and a comma at the end?   • Elegant ways to print out a bunch of instance attributes in python 2.6?

    First some background. I'm parsing a simple file format, and wish to re-use the results in python code later, so I made a very simple class hierarchy and wrote the parser to construct objects from the original records in the text files I'm working from. At the same time I'd like to load the data into a legacy database, the loader files for which take a simple tab-separated format. The most straightforward way would be to just do something like: print "%s\t%s\t....".format(record.id, record.attr1, len(record.attr1), ...) Because there are so many columns to print out though, I thought I'd use the Template class to make it a bit easier to see what's what, i.e.: templ = Template("$id\t$attr1\t$attr1_len\t...") And I figured I could just use the record in place of the map used by a substitute call, with some additional keywords for derived values: print templ.substitute(record, attr1_len=len(record.attr1), ...) Unfortunately this fails, complaining that the record instance does not have an attribute __getitem__. So my question is twofold: do I need to implement __getitem__ and if so how? is there a more elegant way for something like this where you just need to output a bunch of attributes you already know the name for?
