• Accidentally deleted my windows 7 while installing ubuntu, trying to reinstall it

  I had Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop and I believe have downloaded the correct ISO file. I've been trying to use GParted and UNetbootin to create a bootable usb by formatting to FAT32, flagging the boot box, and writing to the flash drive with UNetbootin, but there have been problems. When I select my flash drive in the BIOS, it just reflashes the BIOS stock MSI picture 4 times then boots to Ubuntu anyway. Details: it's a new computer, self-built, hasn't shown any problems in the past, got Windows 7 through r/softwareswap so it's a MSDN file, the flash drive is a Sandisk U3 Cruzer, I uninstalled the bloatware when Iwas using Windows 7, but in the BIOS it still comes up as "Sandisk U3 Cruzer" I don't have a cCD/DVD drive. I dont care if I have to completely delete ubuntu in the process, I just need Windows 7 back by monday. I think the problem is because of the cruzer and am going to pick up a different flash drive today.

• cant boot with graphics in uefi

  I really searched for information to this problem but none of the guides or threads on forums have helped, either i cant search or this havent come up. No nomodeset, forcevesa, turning brightness up or anything have worked.... I bought the laptop with ubuntu 13.04 preinstalled, bumblebeedrivers were on it but primusrun broke on the ubuntu 13.10 update. Decided to reinstall ubuntu and install windows at the same time, so now I got windows up and running from uefi and have installed ubuntu 13.10, grub works for windows and everything seems like normal. But when I try to boot ubuntu i cant manage to boot into anything else than failsafe rootterminal. Screen just go black or i have a blank terminal flashing i upper left corner.... Dont know anything about X configuration or what to do. If anyone has an idea please let me know. Laptop: Clevo w230st intel i7 haswell intel hd4000 (?) nvidia gtx765m

• C++ linkage error . What am I doing wrong ? [migrated]

  So, this is the first time I actually separated a single program into a header and two .cpp files . But I think I am getting an linkage error . Heres how the directory looks . (heres a link to my image I dont have enough rep to post image in the question) http://i.stack.imgur.com/sbT4V.png The main.cpp is my main source file where all the calling functions and other important stuff goes . In functions.cpp I have all my functions , in the coordin.h file I have the function prototypes and structures and Constants . Everything is ok no typo nothing I have checked everything . But I am getting an undefined reference to function error. I have included the coordin.h file too . Do you think the functions.cpp file needs to go somewhere else I mean is the compiler not looking inside that file ? Thanks !

• Powermapper alternatives and google analytics?

  Whats a good application to map the hierarchical structure of a website and maybe get some google analytic action going on? Powermapper is pretty expensive and the trial version didnt seem particularly good at importing google analytics CSV files as advertised. In fact, out of the 1000 pages mapped, exactly 0 were successfully imported. I dont really need all the features Powermapper offers anyway, so the price tag is a bit much. All I really need is like, a simple visual representation of my (automatically generated) site structure (like a hierarchical site structure) and the ability to integrate my google analytic stats (page views mostly) with it.

• How do i allow non-root access to /ttyUSB0 on 12.04?

  Since i updated from 10.04 to 12.04, i am unable to acces the device connected in /ttyUSB0 if i dont have root access. To be more specific, i use a usb-to-serial com port converter to acces and configure Cisco equipment with a software called Putty. It happens that, since i upgraded to 12.04, Putty only sees the connected device when i run it as "gksudo putty". If not, it says "unable to connect to port /ttyUSB0". I have managed to change the permissions via chmod 666, and it works, but if i disconnect the usb and reconnect, it goes back to root only. How do i permanently allow non-root access? I have a clue it might be via udev rules, but i have NO IDEIA how to do it. obs. Manufacturer and drivers "PROLIFIC"

  I need to setup a cronjob on my webhost. The documentation for my webapp reads as follows: you will need to create following cronjob: /public_html/cake/console/cake -app /public_html/app master Also, I want any output written to a log file. My hosts documentation says this: You can have cron send an email everytime it runs a command. If you do not want an email to be sent for an individual cron job you can redirect the command's output to /dev/null like this: mycommand /dev/null 2&1 Can someone help me write the cron job?   my specs intel mb dh67cl corsair 4gb ram nvidia 560ti gtx i5 processor dell 22" monitor 1920x1080 firstly, i began using ubuntu last year. now im in love with it. just one minor detail i dont like is that the bootscreen changed just after the first boot. now im using 12.04.1. i will explain how it happened. first i installed ubuntu via windows. so it booted for the first time and life was beautiful. the resolution was 1920x1080. then i installed the nvidia drivers, all the updates and codecs for the medias. now the ubuntu bootscreen downscaled to a lower resolution. i tried searching for answers, but nothing was for ubuntu 12.04.1. since im a newbie, i didnt want to take any chances. i need help. i like the bootscreen.

  I am using XFCE-Ubuntu and do a lot of my development work there. In my case, when I sometimes use Xilinx ISE, the mouse cursor hangs as a Grab pointer and then stops responding. The entire X environment becomes unusable and I have to kill it and restart. This is becoming a serious annoyance. I saw this bug: AllowDeactivateGrabs is broken I see that sending AllowDeactivateGrabs in command line can kill the Grab. In my case, I am doing this on a remote server, so it is the application in the remote server (over X2GO) getting messed up. I am able to login in command line and kill X. Is there a way to generate AllowDeactivateGrabs in command line ? So I dont mess up my other applications and potentially lose data.

• Workflow of sharing code for small teams

  Problem is, we have developed a small CMS, that is different per implementation (currently). Of course development of this is never complete. Sometimes, we are working on more than one project that implements it (by copying-pasting the code files of the CMS to each project), and we add a new feature that we want to share on other projects as well (these can be small ones too, ie a custom ajax JSON controller - we use MVC) What we want to do is quickly and uniformly share the code with all other projects, via a version control system (or something similar), and generally organize the workflow as we know this isn't a very good workflow that we have. What would you suggest? Also, at the momment, the software we use is Visual Studio 2010, so we are strongly considering TFS, but even if we get it we still don't know the ideal workflow, or even if TFS supports what we want to do. Edit: Also note, we have specific implementations that have modifications over the CMS base that we want to KEEP only in the project area. (ie: a specific feature that we DONT want to share with the base CMS code)

  I've written a custom application indicator, which isn't working properly on saucy. The menu is initialised with a few items, then updates regularly, adding or removing menu items. This worked fine <13.10, but on 13.10, the line that adds the menu to the indicator produces the following warning: Warning: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.38.0/./gobject/gsignal.c:2475: signal 'child-added' is invalid for instance '0x24390e0' of type 'GtkMenu' self.ind.set_menu(self.menu) And the items added to the menu subsequently dont appear. A bug has been filed against several indicators for the same problem, but it's not clear to me whether this is a problem with the indicators as a result of an API change, or a bug in the GTK or Appindicator libraries.   i have a problem with my sound in ubuntu 12.04. the problem is, that sometimes out of nowhere, when switching songs, or playing youtube videos, changing volume with my keyboard buttons, that the sound gets distorted(peeping, scratching). i dont know if it is related, but when i skip through music in rythmbox, there is also a little scratching noise. i can sometimes temporarly fix it: for youtube videos, i refresh the page, and sometimes it works agian normal, mostly not. for audio playback with rythmbox, i have to pause the song for sometime, and resume it, and hope that it works. before all that,i have changed my soundcard to "Analog Surround 5.1" in the sound settings from ubuntu, but i also used alsamixer to change it from 2 channels to 6 channels, since changing in ubuntu sound settings alone wasnt enough to make the other speaks work. i use a ASUS P8-H61-M LE B3 Revision Motherboard. which has a built in surround soundcard.

  I got a hosting account at HOSTGATOR. it was a shared account and i had three websites present over there. now, i have upgraded my account to VPS at HOSTGATOR and i want to transfer only ONE website over the new VPS. say, mydom.net. this website includes wordpress installation and other custom pages and setup can somebody please guide me How can I transfer the web to my new account? with speed, accuracy, and such that my website remains in working condition.. what will I do about wordpress? simply copy it will work?(I dont thnk so), if not how can I move it?
