  • Activity Indicator not displaying based on whether the UIWebView is loading or not...

    - by Jack W-H
Hi folks Sorry if this is an easy one. Basically, here is my code: MainViewController.h: // // MainViewController.h // Site // // Created by Jack Webb-Heller on 19/03/2010. // Copyright __MyCompanyName__ 2010. All rights reserved. // #import "FlipsideViewController.h" @interface MainViewController : UIViewController <UIWebViewDelegate, FlipsideViewControllerDelegate> { IBOutlet UIWebView *webView; IBOutlet UIActivityIndicatorView *spinner; } - (IBAction)showInfo; @property(nonatomic,retain) UIWebView *webView; @property(nonatomic,retain) UIActivityIndicatorView *spinner; @end MainViewController.m: // // MainViewController.m // Site // // Created by Jack Webb-Heller on 19/03/2010. // Copyright __MyCompanyName__ 2010. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (void)dealloc { [spinner release]; [webView release]; [super dealloc]; } @end Unfortunately nothing is ever written to my log, and for some reason the Activity Indicator never seems to appear. What's going wrong here? Thanks folks Jack

  • Defining a Class in Objective C, XCode

    - by Brett
    Hello; I am new to Objective C, and am trying to write a class that defines a complex number. The code seems fine but when I print to the console, my values for instance variables are 0. Here is the code: // // ComplexNumber.h // Mandelbrot Set // // Created by Brett on 10-06-02. // Copyright 2010 __MyCompanyName__. All rights reserved. // #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <stdio.h> @interface ComplexNumber : NSObject { double real; double imaginary; } // Getters -(double) real; -(double) imaginary; // Setters -(void)setReal: (double) a andImaginary: (double) b; //Function -(ComplexNumber *)squared; @end // // ComplexNumber.m // Mandelbrot Set // // Created by Brett on 10-06-02. // Copyright 2010 __MyCompanyName__. All rights reserved. // #import "ComplexNumber.h" #import <math.h> #import <stdio.h> @implementation ComplexNumber -(double)real{ return self->real; } -(double)imaginary{ return self->imaginary; } -(void)setReal: (double) a andImaginary: (double) b{ self->real=a; self->imaginary=b; } -(ComplexNumber *)squared{ double a = pow(real,2); double b = pow(imaginary, 2); double c = 2*real*imaginary; ComplexNumber *d; [d setReal:(a-b) andImaginary: c]; return d; } @end In the App Delegate for debugging purposes I added: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { ComplexNumber *testNumber = [[ComplexNumber alloc] init]; [testNumber setReal:55.0 andImaginary:30.0]; NSLog(@"%d", testNumber.real); // Override point for customization after app launch [window addSubview:viewController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } But the console returns 0 everytime. Help?

  • SqlMetal, Sql Server 2008 database, Table with HierachyID, dal cs file is created sometimes ?

    - by judek.mp
I have 2 databases with a 2 tables with HierachyID fields. For one database I can get a dal cs file, for the other database I cannot get a dal cs file ? HBus is a database I can get the dal cs for, ... SqlMetal /server:.\SQLSERVER2008 /database:HBus /code:HBusDC.cs /views /functions /sprocs /namespace:HBusDC /context:HBusDataContext This kicks me out a file, ... which works, but excludes the HierarchyID field for the table and includes all other fields for that table. This is OK I do not mind. The above cmd line kicks out an warning but still produces a file, like so SqlMetal /server:.\SQLSERVER2008 /database:HBus /code:HBusDC.cs /views /functions /sprocs /namespace:HBusDC /context:HBusDataContext Microsoft (R) Database Mapping Generator 2008 version 1.00.30729 for Microsoft (R) .NET Framework version 3.5 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. Warning : SQM1021: Unable to extract column 'OrgNode' of Table 'dbo.vwHMsg' from SqlServer because the column's DbType is a user-defined type (UDT). HMsg is a table with a HierarchyID field. I have another database, Elf, almost the same thing but I get a warning and an Error when using sql metal and I do not get a dal cs file ... SqlMetal /server:.\SQLSERVER2008 /database:Elf /code:ElfDataContextDal.cs /views /functions /sprocs /namespace:HBusDC /context:HBusDataContext An error as well as the warning and the cs file fails to appear on my disc, ... :-( SqlMetal /server:.\SQLSERVER2008 /database:Elf /code:ElfDataContextDal.cs /views /functions /sprocs /namespace:HBusDC /context:HBusDataContext Microsoft (R) Database Mapping Generator 2008 version 1.00.30729 for Microsoft (R) .NET Framework version 3.5 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. • What is the life cycle of the XNA GraphicsDevice on the Xbox 360?

    - by David Brown
I'm working on an XNA project that doesn't use the built-in Game class, mostly for learning purposes (so I can mess with different game loop types, etc). It's only designed for the Xbox 360, because the hardware is consistent and I don't have to worry about compatibility among different PC hardware configurations. So far, it's working well and I can clear the screen to a color, but I'd like to make sure I handle the GraphicsDevice correctly before moving on. What exactly is the life cycle for the GraphicsDevice on the Xbox 360? Is it ever lost or reset automatically? I know that on Windows, it's lost when the window loses focus, but the Xbox obviously doesn't manage focus. It appears to even keep the graphics device when the Guide pops up, which is the closest thing I can find to "losing focus" on the Xbox. I'd like to think it's simply a matter of "fire and forget," which would make a lot of other things much easier (only needing to load content once, for instance). But I want to make sure.

  • Placing custom code in a System namespace

    - by David Brown
Are there any best-practices that state custom code shouldn't be placed in a System namespace? Should System and its children be reserved for Microsoft code? I ask because I'm writing a class library that will be used across many projects and I'd like to keep things consistent by placing it in System.InteropServices (since it deals with P/Invoke).

  • Where to go after Informix 4GL?

    - by Chris Harris
We have a large homegrown ERP system written in Informix 4GL. Currently we are running on old Sun hardware, Solaris 8, and a ten year old version of 4GL and Informix. We need to move on, and one option obviously is to get the latest versions of 4GL & Informix, installed on new hardware (probably Linux/Intel). However I believe there are options for migrating 4GL programmes to other development platforms. Does anyone have experience of that? If so, what platforms, how did it go, what are the pros and cons?

  • FASM vc MASM trasnlation problem in mov si, offset msg

    - by Ruben Trancoso
hi folks, just did my first test with MASM and FASM with the same code (almos) and I falled in trouble. The only difference is that to produce just the 104 bytes I need to write to MBR in FASM I put org 7c00h and in MASM 0h. The problem is on the mov si, offset msg that in the first case transletes it to 44 7C (7c44h) and with masm translates to 44 00 (0044h)! but just when I change org 7c00h to org 0h in MASM. Otherwise it will produce the entire segment from 0 to 7dff. how do I solve it? or in short, how to make MASM produce a binary that begins at 7c00h as it first byte and subsequent jumps remain relative to 7c00h? .model TINY .code org 7c00h ; Boot entry point. • Porting a project to OpenGL3

    - by Decapsuleur
Hi everyone, I'm working on a C++ cross-platform OpenGL application (Windows, Linux and MacOS) and I am wondering if some of you could share some advices on porting a large application to OpenGL 3. The reason I am looking into OpenGL 3 is because I think we could benefit a lot from using the new "Sync objects". Nvidia has supported such an extension since the Geforce 256 days (gl_nv_fences) but there seems to be no equivalent functionality on ATI hardware before OpenGL 3.0+... Our code makes quite heavy use of glut/freeglut, glu functions, OpenGL 2 extensions and CUDA (on supported hardware). The problem I am now facing is that "gl3.h" and "gl.h" are mutually incompatible (as stated in gl3.h). Do you guys know if there is a GL3 glut equivalent ? Also, looking at the CUDA-toolkit header files, it seems that GL-CUDA interoperability is only available when using older versions of OpenGL... (cuda_gl_interop.h includes gl.h...). Am I missing something ? Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Amazon EC2 Development Stack

    - by sirmak
I want to use EC2 for some reasons and EC2 provides both windows and linux deployments, but linux is much cheaper (linux reserved instances are approx. %63-%85 price of windows ones and spot instances are %50 cheaper for linux). I need a type safe lang and mainstream platform and I prefer to use .net/c# stack (but not mono for some reasons), but in this situation java seems a better fit for the future (when ec2 instance counts begin to increase). So, is it worth to use .net ? best regards,

  • Message pump in .NET Windows service

    - by Pickles
I have a Windows Service written in C# that handles all of our external hardware I/O for a kiosk application. One of our new devices is a USB device that comes with an API in a native DLL. I have a proper P/Invoke wrapper class created. However, this API must be initialized with an HWnd to a windows application because it uses the message pump to raise asynchronous events. Besides putting in a request to the hardware manufacturer to provide us with an API that does not depend on a Windows message pump, is there any way to manually instantiate a message pump in a new thread in my Windows Service that I can pass into this API? Do I actually have to create a full Application class, or is there a lower level .NET class that encapsulates a message pump?

  • Add elements to Arraylist and it replaces all previous elements in Java

    - by pie154
    I am adding elements to a ArrayList and it adds the first one correctly but then when I add any subsequent elements it wipes replaces the other elements with the value form the most recently added and adds a new element to the ArrayList. I ran test using arraylist and ints and even another created class and it worked perfectly but soemthing about the custon class i am using here causes problems. The code for the array list is public static void main(String args[]){ List<BasicEvent> list = new ArrayList<BasicEvent>(); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 9, 4444, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,04,21), 1, 0.98, 0)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Composite", "Door", 125, 4444, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,04,20), 1, 0.98, 1)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 105, 88, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,05,23), 1, 0.98, 0)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 125, 12, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,05,28), 1, 0.98, 1)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 129, 25, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,05,30), 1, 0.98, 0)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 125, 63, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,04,20), 1, 0.98, 1)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Detect", 127, 9, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,05,29), 1, 0.98, -1)); for(int i=0;i<list.size();i++) {System.out.println("list a poition " + i + " is " + BasicEvent.basicToString(list.get(i)));} And the code for the custom class basicEvent is public class BasicEvent { public static String Level; public static String EType; public static double xPos; public static double yPos; public static Date date; public static Time time; public static double Rlb; public static double Sig; public static int Reserved; public BasicEvent(String L, String E, double X, double Y, Date D, Time T, double R, double S, int Res){ Level = L; EType = E; xPos = X; yPos = Y; date = D; time = T; Rlb = R; Sig = S; Reserved = Res; }; public static String basicToString(BasicEvent bse){ String out = bse.getLevel() + ";" + bse.getEtype() + ";" + bse.getxPos() + ";" + bse.getyPos() + ";" + bse.getDate().dateAsString() + ";" + bse.getTime().timeAsString() + ";" + bse.getRlb() + ";" + bse.getSig() + ";" + bse.getReserved(); return out; }

  • Can i openly speculate based on App rejection that the iPad has xxx MB of memory?

    - by GamingHorror
If i were to calculate the iPad's amount of RAM based on just the one fact that my iPad App got rejected due to memory warnings twice, and me fixing it, would this violate the developer NDA? Obviously i know how much memory my App uses, how much the iPhone OS is likely to use and estimate the amount reserved for video memory, then i can deduct from that that the iPad has xxx MB of memory. I just wonder if i can say that number publicly without violating any NDA?

  • Is there any way to limit the size of an STL Map?

    - by Nathan Fellman
I want to implement some sort of lookup table in C++ that will act as a cache. It is meant to emulate a piece of hardware I'm simulating. The keys are non-integer, so I'm guessing a hash is in order. I have no intention of inventing the wheel so I intend to use stl::map for this (though suggestions for alternatives are welcome). The question is, is there any way to limit the size of the hash to emulate the fact that my hardware is of finite size? I'd expect the hash's insert method to return an error message or throw an exception if the limit is reached. If there is no such way, I'll simply check its size before trying to insert, but that seems like an inelegant way to do it.

  • How to control a NSView, located in a dedicated NSWindow, from the main NSWindow designed to support

    - by Michael
Hi, This is probably a simple problem for the high skilled Cocoa programmers, but I can't find how to control the graph in a separate window. I read carefully the Cocoa related books, go through many web notes, but I can't find a solution to my problem. The purpose is to use a dedicated window to draw the I=F(Vg) curves extracted by the GUI from a specific hardware. All the GUI and the hardware works fine ( thanks to the help provided by several members of stackoverflow) , but no way to send the parameters to the NSView to display the results. So far, the GUI class is based on a NSObject, the graphic class is NSView. Any idea, examples, links will be appreciated. Thank you so much. Michael

  • How can I get latency info from Android's AudioTrack class?

    - by Ryan
I've noticed that the C++ classes underlying the AudioTrack and AudioRecord APIs in Android both have a latency() method that is not exposed via JNI. As far as I can see, the latency() method in AudioRecord still does not take into account the hardware latency (they have a TODO comment for that), but the latency() method in AudioTrack does add in the hardware latency. I absolutely need to get this latency value from AudioTrack. Is there any possible way I can do this? I don't care what kind of crazy hack is needed as long as it doesn't require a rooted phone (the resulting code must still be packaged as an app on the market).

  • main vs initialize in Ruby

    - by Dave
Okay, so I've looked through a couple of my ruby books and done some googling to no avail. What is the difference between main and initialize in Ruby? I've seen code that uses class Blahblah def main some logic here end #more methods... end and then calls it using Blahblah.new. Isn't new reserved only for initialize? if not, then what's the difference between the two?

  • Licensing your code in Mono

    - by Jerry
I'm working with some code in Visual Studio. My parter-in-crime fellow developer has suggested that the code also be available to work under Mono. I'm impresed witht he work that is already done in Mono, but I'm very new to Mono, so I don't know what it can/cannot do. I've already written a class in C# using the .NET LicenseManager object. It writes to the windows registry, so I know I'll have to modify it so that it will use some compiler flags like #if Win32 or #if MONO. My question is two-fold: 1) Does Mono implement the same LicenseManager class structure? 2) If so, how do you guys lock down your code using LicenseManager in Linux? (i.e. Write to files, use a hardware dongle, compare to hardware serials, etc??)
