  • Hosting a website from a dynamic IP

    - by nick
I recently upgraded my internet to the point that it is much faster and more reliable than my current webhost. I would like to move my current domain to be hosted at home, but my IP address is dynamic. As far as I know, I only get a new IP when I restart my modem and or router (which is almost never) or when cable one (my ISP) pushes out a firmware update (rarely). There are a few ways I can see doing this 1) convince my ISP to give me a static IP 2) assign my router my current IP to force a static IP (which might work?) 3) set my dns record to my current IP address and update it on the rare occasions that it changes. Obviously I'm hoping that the first one works, but I don't want to pay a lot of extra money (if that's what it takes) to get a static IP address. Has anyone had any luck with something like that?

  • Satellite website or redirect

    - by Ben
We're running a campaign for specific industries within our target market. Our main web site has a page for each industry. We also own domains for each industry i.e: FoodWidgets.com, ElectricalWidgets.com, ChemicalWidgets.com. Of the following methods, which is likely to make the best SEO improvements: Just link each domain to the main web site Forward each domain to the relevant page on the main site e.g. FoodWidgets.com (302) redirects to http://www.MainSite.com/industries/food Create a single page "satellite" web site for each domain with the same content as the industry page on the main site.

  • Development of a Card Game Website [on hold]

    - by Correna Hurley
Yahoo did away with all of their "parlor-type" games on 3/31/14. There is a great demand to get these games back, but Yahoo has no plan to do so. I'd like to find someone who has the knowledge necessary to create such an "animal" and would be willing to give it a try. If someone from this forum would be so kind as to point me in the right direction to find such an individual, I'd be grateful. Thank you.

  • Backing up VPS and Database Servers for website

    - by TravisK
I currently have an "un-managed" (no help from hosting company) windows vps server. I am working on a good backup solution to return my site back online within a few hours. I am pretty comfortable backing up and restoring my database, however what is a good solution for backing up my VPS for easy recovery? Should I just use windows backup and create an image? I'm open to suggestions. Additionally, has anyone had to restore an entire VPS before? Is it reasonable to have it back up and running in a few hours?

  • Passing variable from SharePoint to external website

    - by TechDaddyK
My company has a SharePoint site that is administered by the IT department (versus the Web Developer... go figure!). We have partnered with a vendor that has built a site for our staff to order customized stationery, etc. I need to create a link on the SharePoint site that will take the user to the external site but identify them individually. The vendor is suggesting this format: https://www.VENDORSITE.com/UI/Profile.hcf?id=a02b8106-4115-47cd-bca7-ce4dd447ef89&username=<user name>&password=<password>&name1=<first name>&name2=<last name>&email=<email> Here's the problem: I don't know how to pass that info, or even a single variable, from the SharePoint site to the external site. I would appreciate ANY suggestions.

  • Separating portion of website to its own server

    - by Brett
So my job is to take the homepage (or maybe I should say "homesite" because it encompasses a few interrelated pages) and drag this onto its own Apache server. The problem I'm having right now is being able to weed out jumbled/bundled files (such as folders of js, css, and other files that i cant even identify) and knowing what is necessary to keep the homesite running. I'm new to this stuff (I'm an intern) so feel free to ask questions if I'm leaving vital information out. What I'm asking of you guys here is basically any pointers or tips you may be able to give me in order to get the job done. I could use some advice from people with a little more experience in web development. btw: This question may appear as though I have not completed any prior research and that is, for the most part, true. But the problem is I really am not sure how to research this. If you guys could throw me some keywords to play with that would really be helpful. Thanks!
