  I am getting all confused about how to solve this problem in Linq. I have a working solution, but the code to do it is way too complicated and circular I think: I have a timesheet application in MVC 2. I want to query the database that has the following tables (simplified): Project Task TimeSegment The relationships are as follows: A project can have many tasks and a task can have many timesegments. I need to be able to query this in different ways. An example is this: A View is a report that will show a list of projects in a table. Each project's tasks will be listed followed by a Sum of the number of hours worked on that task. The timesegment object is what holds the hours. I sense there must be a much easier way to achieve what I want. Basically you can tell from the View what I want to achieve: I want to get a collection of projects. Each project should have it's associated collection of tasks. And each task should have it's associated collection of timesegments for the specified date period. Note that the projects and tasks selected must also only be the projects and tasks that have the timesegments for this period. I don't want all projects and tasks that have no timesegments within this period. It seems the group by Linq query beginning the GetProjects() method sort of achieves this (if extended to have the conditions for date and so on), but I can't return this and pass it to the view, because it is an anonymous object. I also tried creating a specific type in such a query, but couldn't wrap my head around that either... I hope there is something I'm missing and there is some easier way to achieve this, because I need to be able to do several other different queries as well eventually. I also don't really like the way I solved it with the "CurrentTimeSegments" properties and so on. These properties don't really exist on the model objects in the first place, I added them in partial classes to have somewhere to put the filtered results for each part of the nested object chain... Any ideas?

You have a ‘parent’ report, and then one or more ‘child’ reports which are based off of a value in a selected row or value from the parent. That’s OK, SQL Developer can edit XML files. While the Reporting interface doesn’t surface the ability to create multi-generational reports, the underlying code definitely supports it. We just need to hack away at the XML that powers a report. For this example I’m going to start simple. A query that brings back DEPARTMENTs, then EMPLOYEES, then JOBs. We can build the first two parts of the report using the report editor. A Parent-Child report in Oracle SQL Developer (Departments – Employees) Save the Report to XML Once you’ve generated the XML file, open it with your favorite XML editor. For this example I’ll be using the build-it XML editor in SQL Developer. SQL Developer Reports in their raw XML glory! Right after the PDF element in the XML document, we can start a new ‘child’ report by inserting a DISPLAY element. I just copied and pasted the existing ‘display’ down so I wouldn’t have to worry about screwing anything up. Note I also needed to change the ‘master’ name so it wouldn’t confuse SQL Developer when I try to import/open a report that has the same name. Also I needed to update the binds tags to reflect the names from the child versus the original parent report. Here’s what it looks like running A 3 generation family Now Let’s Build an AWR Text Report Ronald wanted to have the ability to query AWR snapshots and generate the AWR reports. That requires a few inputs, including a START and STOP snapshot ID. That basically tells AWR what time period to use for generating the report. And here’s where it gets tricky. We’ll need to use aliases for the SNAP_ID column. Since we’re using the same column name from 2 different queries, we need to use different bind variables. Fortunately for us, SQL Developer’s clever enough to use the column alias as the BIND. My grandchild report can’t reference a value from the grandparent report. So I just carry the selected value down to the parent. In my parent query SELECT you see the ‘:START1′ at the end? That’s making that value available to me when I use it in my grandchild query. • WebLogic Server JMS WLST Script – Who is Connected To My Server

  Ever want to know who was connected to your WebLogic Server instance for troubleshooting?  An email exchange about this topic and JMS came up this week, and I’ve heard it come up once or twice before too.  Sometimes it’s interesting or helpful to know the list of JMS clients (IP Addresses, JMS Destinations, message counts) that are connected to a particular JMS server.  This can be helpful for troubleshooting.  Tom Barnes from the WebLogic Server JMS team provided some helpful advice: The JMS connection runtime mbean has “getHostAddress”, which returns the host address of the connecting client JVM as a string.  A connection runtime can contain session runtimes, which in turn can contain consumer runtimes.  The consumer runtime, in turn has a “getDestinationName” and “getMemberDestinationName”.  I think that this means you could write a WLST script, for example, to dump all consumers, their destinations, plus their parent session’s parent connection’s host addresses.    Note that the client runtime mbeans (connection, session, and consumer) won’t necessarily be hosted on the same JVM as a destination that’s in the same cluster (client messages route from their connection host to their ultimate destination in the same cluster). • Beginner Guide to User Styles for Firefox

  While the default styles for most websites are nice there may be times when you would love to tweak how things look. See how easy it can be to change how websites look with the Stylish Extension for Firefox. Note: Scripts from Userstyles.org can also be added to Greasemonkey if you have it installed. Getting Started After installing the extension you will be presented with a first run page. You may want to keep it open so that you can browse directly to the Userstyles.org website using the link in the upper left corner. In the lower right corner you will have a new Status Bar Icon. If you have used Greasemonkey before this icon works a little differently. It will be faded out due to no user style scripts being active at the moment. You can use either a left or right click to access the Context Menu. The user style script management section is also added into your Add-ons Management Window instead of being separate. When you reach the user style scripts homepage you can choose to either learn more about the extension & scripts or… Start hunting for lots of user style script goodness. There will be three convenient categories to get you jump-started if you wish. You could also conduct a search if you have something specific in mind. Here is some information directly from the website provided for your benefit. Notice the reference to using these scripts with Greasemonkey… This section shows you how the scripts have been categorized and can give you a better idea of how to search for something more specific. Finding & Installing Scripts For our example we decided to look at the Updated Styles Section”first. Based on the page number listing at the bottom there are a lot of scripts available to look through. Time to refine our search a little bit… Using the drop-down menu we selected site styles and entered Yahoo in the search blank. Needless to say 5 pages was a lot easier to look through than 828. We decided to install the Yahoo! Result Number Script. When you do find a script (or scripts) that you like simply click on the Install with Stylish Button. A small window will pop up giving you the opportunity to preview, proceed with the installation, edit the code, or cancel the process. Note: In our example the Preview Function did not work but it may be something particular to the script or our browser’s settings. If you decide to do some quick editing the window shown above will switch over to this one. To return to the previous window and install the user style script click on the Switch to Install Button. After installing the user style the green section in the script’s webpage will actually change to this message… Opening up the Add-ons Manager Window shows our new script ready to go. The script worked perfectly when we conducted a search at Yahoo…the Status Bar Icon also changed from faded out to full color (another indicator that everything is running nicely). Conclusion If you prefer a custom look for your favorite websites then you can have a lot of fun experimenting with different user style scripts.   I noticed to my surprise that an event created with dispatchEvent(event) gets handled directly when called, and not together with other events at a specific phase of the frame loop. Two main reasons of having an event system are: so that you can call code B from code A, but still want to prioritize code A. to make sure there are no freaky loopedy loops where code A calls code B calls code A ... I wonder what Ansca's rationale behind having events being handled directly this way is. And does Corona handle loopedy loops and other such pitfalls gracefully? • How to generate and print large XPS documents in WPF?

  I would like to generate (and then print or save) big XPS documents (400 pages) from my WPF application. We have some large amount of in-memory data that needs to be written to XPS. How can this be done without getting an OutOfMemoryException? Is there a way I can write the document in chunks? How is this usually done? Should I not be using XPS for large files in the first place? The root cause of the OutOfMemoryException seems to be the creation of the huge FlowDocument. I am creating the full FlowDocument and then sending it to the XPS document writer. Is this the wrong approach?

  Hi there, I have a base class called Items and 3 derived classes, and within the Items base class i have a print function of the form public void print(){ System.out.println("ID " + id + " Title " + title + " <" + year + "> "); } and within every derived class I call the Items print function through super.print(); which is followed by a specific print function relating to the derived class. My problem is, whenever the printing is executed from one of the derived classes the printed text is not on the same line. So super.print() will be in the line above the derived class print function. How do I get them both to be on the same line?

• Howto: Configure Spring-WS to publish WSDL files with a '?WSDL' style URL?

  I am trying to configure web service proxying using Mule ESB. I am attempting to do this using Mule's WSProxyService, but after stepping through the corresponding code (with the debugger), it is clear that this class replaces endpoint addresses. The problem is Spring-WS WSDL addresses are of the style http://xxxx/xxxx.wsdl, but WSProxyService expects http://xxxx/xxxx?wsdl or http://xxxx/xxxx&wsdl. It replaces the remote endpoint addresses with the local WSDL address; it cuts the remote WSDL address at the question mark i.e. '?WSDL' is intended to be chopped off, so to create the search term. But because of Spring-WS, this does not work. To break it down: WSProxyService ends up trying to use http://xxxx/xxxx.wsdl to replace http://xxxx/xxxx with http://yyyy/yyyy which fails... leading to actual web service call going direct and not through the proxy. Has anyone ever noticed/solved this problem?? Cheers, Darren

I've been trying to create Windows sidebar gadget with button controls that look like circles (I have couple of "roundish" png images). The behavior, I want, is the following: when the mouse hovers over the image it gets larger a bit. When we click on it, then it goes down and up. When we leave the button's image it becomes normal sized again. Cause I'm going to have couple of such controls I decided to implement custom control: like a button but with image and no content text. My problem is that I'm not able to set my custom properties in my template and style. What am I doing wrong?
