  • How to store private pictures and videos in Ruby on Rails

    Here's a story: User A should be able to upload an image. User A should be able to set a privacy. ("Public" or "Private"). User B should not be able to access "Private" images of User A. I'm planning to user Paperclip for dealing with uploads. If I store the images under "RAILS_ROOT/public/images", anyone who could guess the name of the files might access the files. (e.g., accessing http://example.com/public/images/uploads/john/family.png ) I need to show the images using img tags, so I cannot place a file except public. How can I ensure that images of a user or group is not accessible by others?

    I have multiple coupons on a page and I'm trying to get comments to work on each coupon. So for each coupon i have a comments form. Im using jQuery + Ajax to accomplish this. Here's what my code looks like. What can I change to make it so ajax submits the correct form and not the first one?

I assume that this is the reason for the latter error that I don't have a database configuration.   • Return only the new database items since last check in Rails

    I'm fairly new to Ruby, and currently trying to implement an AJAX style commenting system. When the user views a topic, all the current comments on that topic will be displayed. The user can post a comment on the page of a topic and it should automatically display without having to refresh the page, along with any new comments that have been posted since the last comment currently displayed to the user. The comments should also automatically refresh at a specified frequency. From what I can tell, the @latest_time gets constantly reset to the earliest created_at, rather than staying updated to the latest created_at after the comments have been retrieved. I'm also not sure how I should directly refresh the comments when a comment is posted. Is it possible to force a call to periodically_call_remote on a successful save?

It only returns the last node - the last <td>123</td> What should I do to make it work?

    Hi, I am following a tutorial in one of Ryan Bates' Railscasts here. Basically I want a form where there are 2 drop down menus, the contents of one are dependent on the other. I have Years and Courses, where Years HABMT Courses and Courses HABTM Years.   • stripe payment issue ruby on rails

    So I have made a stripe payment option in my app. When I click the button pay now, it shows me that the payment is successful. and when I go to my stripe account and go to stripe-test and check logs, I can see my test payment with the code 200 OK. But this payment doesn't show in stripe-test events, or in stripe-test payments.     I'm attempting to sum daily purchase amounts for a given user. @dates is an array of 31 dates. I need the find condition to compare a date from the array to the created_at date of the purchases. What I'm doing below compares the exact DateTime for the create_at column. I need it to look at the day itself, not the DateTime.   • Rails advanced queries with join and sum calculation

    I have two models: companies and expenses. Companies have many expenses and expenses belong to companies. My expense model has an 'amount' column. I was wondering if there is a way to perform a find based on a date range and the amount column of the expenses. Something like top 3 companies by total expense amounts over a 7 day period. I've tried for the better part of the day to get this to work, I've attempted joins, chaining named scopes, raw sql, etc. and I'm not having any luck. Thanks for the help.

    Hi Everyone, I have a kase model which I am using a simple search form in. The problem I am having is some kases are linked to companies through a company model, and people through a people model.     So I'm trying to get the user to return to the page they were looking at before they click "log in" This is what I got in my user application controller: def redirect_back_or_default(default) redirect_to(session[:return_to] || default) session[:return_to] = nil end And this is what I have in my sessions controller: def new @user_session = UserSession.new session[:return_to] = request.referer end end def create @user_session = UserSession.new(params[:user_session]) if @user_session.save flash[:notice] = "Login successful!" redirect_back_or_default(home_path) else render :action => :new end end This works fine most of the time but if a user logs in right after they register to the site, they will get redirected to a blank page. I imagine this is the "create" action because it was the last action before going to user sessions new. So I tried this: def new @user_session = UserSession.new unless request.referer == join_path session[:return_to] = request.referer end end And this tries to take me back to the login page after I log in. What I'd really like to do is have the user see their profile when they log in for the very first time. This wouldn't give me a user id and raised a routing error def create @user_session = UserSession.new(params[:user_session]) if @user_session.save flash[:notice] = "Login successful!" redirect_back_or_default(user_path(current_user)) else render :action => :new end end Anybody gone through these redirecting acrobatics before? I can't seem to get it to work. I'm using authlogic if that helps.

    Hi I am not sure why I am having this problem, maybe I am using the check_box_tag incorrectly. I have a form that is used to send an email message. You are supposed to be able to choose one or more boxes that represent different groups of people. <%= check_box_tag (:bcc_email, value = @spouses) %> <%= f.label :bcc_email, "Company Spouses" %><br /> <%= check_box_tag (:bcc_email, value = @soldiers) %> <%= f.label :bcc_email, "Company Soldiers" %><br /> The values are an array of email addresses. Those work fine, I have had them functioning as drop down menus for sometime. When I look at the HTML page source the values are there, they are just not being passed along with the create method. Any ideas?
