  • Grub won't boot windows after update from 11.10 to 12.04

    thanks for your time and reading this, here's the deal: i upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 and everything worked out until i rebooted, i had 11.10 sucessfully running as a dual boot with windows vista. when i rebooted, my GRUB was shot to hell, what ever option i selected it said partion not found or something similar... booting into a live version on a thumb drive and running bootrepair from there fixed the issue... but only for ubuntu, when i try to boot into windows it only goes back to GRUB. i'm not at home, and heres a list of what i have here with me... 1 4gb thumb drive, empty 1 8gb thumb drive, windows vista installer bootable 1 old laptop, the one i try to save, optical drive is not existent 2 Mbps internet connection can you help me get back into my windows without having to reinstall windows? or at least show me a way how to use my illustrator through a virtual machine or something? here's my grub cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; Now I want to organize my blog in a better way and make a drop down menu for all the categories(I already have labels) but I dont want to keep updating the menu whenever I include a new post. I want to have it updated automatically. Is there any way it can be done with CSS or html codes?

    I am creating a XAML / C# WinRT App and i have a collection of collection and i am binding it to a Grid-view(collections as groups ) Now i have to color the background of the GridViewItem according to their index in the collection (Dark color for the first one and light color for the last one ) How can i implement using a converter.   • Wubi installation broken by update - now unable to mount

    As of today, my wubi installation of Ubuntu won't boot (goes straight to 'minimal bash-like interface) and I am unable to mount it when I boot straight to Ubuntu. If I boot straight into Ubuntu (not using Wubi, not going via Windows), I am able to mount the Windows partition and see the Wubi partition there: sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/sda5 /media/winxp And from there I can see the wubi root disk: /media/winxp/ubuntu/disks/root.disk But if I try to mount this: sudo mount -o loop /media/winxp/ubuntu/disks/root.disk /media/wubi I get an error: /media/winxp/ubuntu/disks/root.disk Input/Output Error If I then try fsck: sudo fsck /media/winxp/ubuntu/disks/root.disk I get this: Input/Output Error while trying to open /media/winxp/ubuntu/disks/root.disk The Superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct etx2 filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt and you might want to try running e2fsk with an alternate superblock: e2fsck -b 8193 <device ... this gives me the same result. There is data on this partition that I really need to be able to access, so I can't delete and reinstall. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

  • 1080p Screen resolution problem after 10.04 to 12.04 update

    I have a Samsung LCD 40" with a NVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 Card. I recently upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04 and the best resolution I can get is 1360x768. I've tried the propietary drivers available on the repository kmod:nvidia_current kmod:nvidia_173_updates kmod:nvidia_current_updates kmod:nvidia_96 kmod:nvidia_96_updates kmod:nvidia_173 I've also downloaded latest from NVidia's Web, version: 295.40. But still no luck. With Nouveau driver, I can only get 1024x768. I know there is no problem with my hardware (video card, cable and monitor), I was using it perfectly on 10.04. Can anybody suggest something else I could try, to get my 1920x1080 resolution back? Thanks in advance.   • After 14.04 update video/totem won't play midi

    Prior to the upgrade, I could be on wikipedia and play the 'play' links fine where totem would open a window and have screen graphics go on. Now, after researching, installing VLC and it's extensions, making sure the gnome codec installer is activated, and on and on, all I get is : "The parameters passed to the application had an invalid format. Please file a bug! The parameters were: --transient-for=16777296 gstreamer|1.0|totem-plugin-viewer|audio/x-midi-event decoder|decoder-audio/x-midi-event" When totem/video opens and I'm not sure whether the bug is being reported or not. Meaning I don't know if APPOrt is active for this as there's no box with a checkmark in it display. AND the window for totem/video ALWAYS has the sound muted when it opens.

  • Failed Update & Mouse Issues

    I`m using my gfs computer - but I do have Ubuntu 11.10 up and running well to some degree. Still need to work out some bugs but not quite sure how to do that. My mouse is only somewhat responsive - cursor moves, and able to click on things but still unable to do a double click function. Left mouse button still not working at all. Tried running updates but it keeps coming up synaptic error. Not sure what that means. I have read that some people have done reinstalls of Ubuntu and it corrected the problems - not sure if that could work. Comments would be appreciated. Installed Ubuntu 11.10 but thinking of trying to wipe the system to do a fresh install can someone tell me how I get back to the Ubuntu installation menu. Wondering if gnome may need to be reset but not sure.

    MySQL supports "for update" keyword. Here is how I tested that it is working as expected. I opened 2 browser tabs and executed the following commands in one window. mysql> start transaction; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) mysql> select * from myxml where id = 2 for update; .... mysql> update myxml set id = 3 where id = 2 limit 1; Query OK, 1 row affected, 1 warning (0.00 sec) Rows matched: 1 Changed: 1 Warnings: 0 mysql> commit; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.08 sec) In another window, I started the transaction and tried to take an update lock on the same record. mysql> start transaction; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) mysql> select * from myxml where id = 2 for update; Empty set (43.81 sec) As you can see from the above example, I could not select the record for 43 seconds as the transaction was being processed by another application in the Window No 1. Once the transaction was over, I got to select the record, but since the id 2 was changed to id 3 by the transaction that was executed first, no record was returned. My question is what are the disadvantages of using "for update" syntax? If I do not commit the transaction that is running in window 1 will the record be locked for-ever?

  • Another Update to SQL Server Configuration Scripting Utility

    I’ve been gradually adding features to my utility that scripts the configuration of a SQL Server.  Since my last post I’ve added the following features: Skip any encrypted object in a database Script alerts, alert notifications and operators Script audits Always script model, master and msdb to capture any user-defined objects in those databases Logins are now scripted so that everything for a login is grouped together. There’s a second section in the logins that handles default databases.  In many cases a login’s default database is a mirror target and can’t be set.  This is now handled gracefully.  It also includes a separate section for all default databases so those can be quickly set in the event of a disaster. Script credentials Script proxy accounts Script database mail My goal is still to get everything outside a database scripted.  This release is enough that I can keep my mirror target servers in sync with their principals.

  • Ubuntu 12.10 not working on UX32VD after update to beta 1 [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: There's an issue with an Alpha/Beta Release of Ubuntu, what should I do? In my previous question I described my problem with starting / returning from suspend using Ubuntu on the Asus UX32VD (Zenbook). This problem could be solved by using Ubuntu 12.10 (alpha), however since the upgrade to beta 1 the old problem of starting / returning from suspend has returned. I found that starting in recovery does work, but this of course does not solve the problem. Any thoughts?

  • usb keyboard stopped working in terminal window after update from 13.04 to 13.10

    When I start the computer, I am logged in automatically. Using the keyboard, I type Ctrl+Alt+t, which brings up a terminal window, just like it should; however, nothing happens when I attempt to type into the terminal. If I change over to the guest account, I can type into the terminal, but (different problem here, I'll ask it separately unless someone is kind enough to answer it here) my password doesn't work for sudo or anything else. Elsewhere I read that Language support could fix it, but that won't accept my password either - and no, I haven't changed it lately. Also, my Plex Media Server seems to have disappeared. I'll re-install everything if necessary, but I sure would rather avoid that if possible
