  • JavaScript and PHP - A little confused on how to work them together.

    So right now, I'm just using a basic form to check a password. I want it to check the password and basically remain on page.html so I can use JavaScript to alert incorrect password or something. I'm not really sure how to do that. It seems it would bring me to check.php. I'm not too sure on the whole process, any help appreciated! Thanks!   • Looking forward to a programming future but confused where to start.

    Hi there, I am very new to this site and to programming. I started doing some basic programming with python a few weeks ago and recently, messing around with Java basics. My main problem is that I am completely overwhelmed and haven't got the slightest clue where I should be starting. I want to learn programming because I really enjoy doing it, the simple applications that I have managed to conjure up put a smile on my face. My plan is to eventually (by eventually I'm talking about 6 years+) go into games programming. I have been informed that C++ is the best way to go about this but haven't got the slightest clue what book/sight is optimal for someone who is still learning the very basics. These are my questions: I have been to the Definitive C++ Book Guide but am still unsure which book is best to start of with. Should I stick with Python or Java instead of moving on to C++? Is there any advice you would give to a beginner programmer? Thanks again for all your help.

  • Anyone know about AppDynamics? Does Microsoft already have something similiar? Event viewer? Im confused

    We have a big collection of java (80%) and .Net (20%) apps.. And the people in charge want a way to monitor the applications somehow. So they told me they are interested in AppDynamics? I have spent a bit looking into it but I still don't get it. Can someone tell me what its about ? From my understanding it seems like you would someone inject the AppDynamics API in your code to tell about differnt events that occur? So sounds like Event Viewer ? I am on the .NET side of this and seems to me we can just write data to a log and report off of that data.. I don't get what the additional complexity of using'AppDynamics' does. Maybe it is overkill ??

  • Windows service hangs

    Hi, I have a webdav client-server application. I'm using Cassini webserver to host the webdav server. One important thing here is that I start and Stop my webserver using a windows service. Now, I start my windows service and I attach my webdav server application's debugger to the windows service. Everything used to go fine, that is I could connect to the server using my webdav client, debug the server code. However, a couple of days back, when I tried to debug my webdav server application, which in turn is attached to a windows service, my computer freezes while I'm in the midst of debugging the server app. The freeze does not occur at the same line every time and is therefore not predictable. Every time this happens, I would not be able to do anything at all with my computer except to reboot the system using the power button. What could be the problem? Could it be the service that is freezing or something else? Any help? Thanks, Ram

  • Ubuntu and Surface Pro, wifi issues not fixed?

    Just a quick question, from the numerous other threads I found, is the wifi still a no go straight out of installing Ubuntu? I tried this Dual boot Surface Pro with Ubuntu? with 13.04, the wifi is sporadic in working. From that and other threads I gathered that 13.10 would include the fix, so I tossed that onto the Surface as well, with the same results. Is there anything I am missing? Is there any other distro that has better luck with the Marvell chip?

  • Internet Connection Problems

    I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 onto a laptop. There is no list of automatic connections when I click on the internet connection symbol. Enable Wireless was unchecked, so I checked it. However, it continues saying "wireless is disabled." Soft is blocked, and when I tried rfkill unblock wifi it told me that the device was not ready. I tried to counter this with what I found on this thread but nothing worked. I have tried manually entering my Wireless information, but this does not help. Is there a solution?

  • Quit job for another but current employer doesn't want to lose me. Would it be a bad idea to stay?

    So I've handed in my notice at my current job as I've been offered a job at another company. However, my current employer doesn't want to lose me and they want to know what I want to stay. I mostly enjoy working there so I'd be open to negiotiation. The new job was an unexpected opportunity that presented itself. Such things I'd be looking for are: Better computers for developers Opportunity to work from home occasionally Improved internet access (e.g. able to download software, no keyword blocking) Chance to work on other technologies than my primary (we do have projects on other technologies) Pay increase (though this isn't my primary motivation) I found out that some of these were already in progress when I handed in my notice :( Is it ever a good idea to remain at a company after you've resigned? What if they meet all my conditions and alter my contract accordingly? Will I burn my bridges at the new company (I've already told them I'd accept their offer)? Update: Thanks for the answers. Quite a mixed bag which was interesting. Anyway, just so you know, I've chosen to stay at my current company. So far, it definately feels like the right decision. Guess I won't know for a few months whether is was though.

    When I click on Deja-Dup Storage, I can see there are some Ubuntu folders,Ubuntu One, WebDav and all the Windows drive visible. If I select a windows drive for my backup is it going to backup all files including my installed softwares, muzic, movies- everything ?! When I open/closes a windows drive it mounts and unmounts. If I select that option does it going to cause any mount/unmount problem ? What is WebDav ?

As you can see by the commented out parts I have tried a lot of different things based on random tutorials I have found but all of them have ended up in Internal Server Error, 503 and most often a '502 Bad Gateway`. I can start play and it does connect successfully to my database. I can get a page to show up when there is an error and the play! stack trace error pages comes up but where everything is fine I get one of the errors above.   • Excel 2010: if( , , "") not treated the same as blank for pivot table group by date

    I'm trying to group by date in an Excel 2010 pivot table. The column with dates (i.e., the one want to group by), should be the latest date of 2 other columns if neither is null, or blank. i.e., with a formula like: =IF(AND(A4 <> "", B4 <> ""), MAX(A4,B4), "") Normally, this ""in the IF() formula acts the same as an empty cell. In this case, it is preventing me from grouping by date in the Pivot Table. If I filter the date column by (Blanks), then clear the contents of all those cells, then the pivot table does group by date ok. i.e., "" is not being treated the same as an empty cell.

  • How would I force Debian to use the physical sector size on a hard disk?

    I just purchased a few new 3TB WD drives. These have physical 4k sectors, but there is some sort of layer which is providing 512B logical sectors (see the partition table below). In order to attempt to get some more speed out of my hard drives, I would like to get rid of this logical layer and actually use the physical 4k sectors. However, I can't figure out how to do this (or even if it's possible) from the man pages of fdisk and parted, or from searching Google. Does anybody know how this could be done? As to why this is relevant, this page demonstrates that meerly aligning the sectors properly can already make up to a 25% speed difference for reads, and more than 2500% for writes in some cases!     The power is not shutting off my computer after windows shuts down. Windows shuts down and I hear my computer case "click" but the power and fans all stay on. This seemed to start after I installed the canon pixma printer driver and software from their website. I have uninstalled the printer software from "uninstall program" and deleted the printer from printers. I have even stopped spool service and deleted printer following this post, the printer drivers did uninstall. How to completely remove printer from Windows 7

I know WebDAV needs a web server, but how can I do it through Bonjour ? Any tutorial ? Can I use Bonjour protocol only, without any FTP server to transfer files between iPhone and Mac ? Example app is in App store Files Lite, it uses both WebDAV and Bonjour. In that Bonjour uses HTTP.

  • updating score in card game

    I am a total beginner with python. I need help updating the score of a card game. The scoring works as follows: Player A or B has a pair: score += 1 Player A asks Player B (vice versa) for a card and that player has it: score += 1 Player B doesn't have it, Player A has to draw a card. If there is pair after draw: score += 2 I have the logic down but I don't really know how to connect it together. I tried manually adding the scores in my functions, but it get's messy and complicated :( I assume I would have to make a new function for the score and call them in my other functions? I would appreciate the guidance, Thank-you!
