  • Good Times and Vibes at Mix 10

    Last week I spent a few days in Las Vegas attending the Mix 10 conference. Mix is billed as A 3 day conference for web designers and developers building the world's most innovative web sites. Which certainly reflects its origins as a conference focused on the web and web standards. But this year, it seemed that the scope for Mix was expanded to be about, well, a Mix of technologies as the Windows Phone 7 series figured prominently at the conference.   • C# inherit from a class in a different DLL

    I need to make an application that needs to be highly modular and that can easily be expanded with new functionality. I've thought up a design where I have a main window and a list of actions that are implemented using a strategy pattern. I'd like to implement the base classes/interfaces in a DLL and have the option of loading actions from DLL's which are loaded dynamically when the application starts. This way the main window can initiate actions without having to recompile or redistribute a new version. I just have to (re)distribute new DLL's which I can update dynamically at runtime. This should enable very easy modular updating from a central online source. The 'action' DLL's all inherit their structure from the code defined in the the DLL which defines the main strategy pattern structure and it's abstract factory. I'd like to know if C# /.Net will allow such a construction. I'd also like to know whether this construction has any major problems in terms of design.

  • Why are 3D game scenarios so big? and.. are them shareable? [closed]

    First, I apologize if this is not the forum for these type of questions. I was wondering... 1- Why 3D games (such as GTA IV) uses so much gigabytes of space? And my half-answar was... because of their huge 3D scenarios. But wait! are not these scenarios made with vector graphics and textures? then.. why are so big??? 2- If they are so big... would really these companies make a whole new scenario for every new game they develop? that would be very inefficient. Doesn't exist "shareable" scenarios that can be used in different games and expanded to no rebuild a whole one (like "New York" or "Liberty City")???. I mean.. the scenarios is almost the same in terms of vertices, just with improved textures.

  • Demonstration Image BIC2G for Partners (OBI, Exalytics, BI-Apps, and EPM)

    There is now available the new version of the VirtualBox Demonstration Image, "BIC2g 2012-10" for Partners; including support for OBI, Exalytics, BI Applications, and EPM Hyperion applications. This is a demonstration, training and POV image that contains BI/Exalytics, BI Applications, and EPM product (software). It was originally developed to support internal Oracle Exalytics training, and has been expanded to include BI Applications. It is an OVA virtual appliance that can be imported into VirtualBox. Details can be found in the BIC2g Partner Edition Exalytics Readme and BIC2g Partner Edition Deployment Guide, and it can be downloaded from the Partner FTP site at /static/BIC2G (see BI Solutions Engineering Partner Portal for connection information and further detail on Demonstration Images for Partners).

  • Make an agenda view google calendar entry display initially as if it had been clicked

    So I've got a google calendar embedded in my web page. It's set to agenda view so when you click on an entry it expands and shows you more information on the entry. I'd like to be able to link to the page w/ the embedded calendar from elsewhere, and have a specific entry already expanded (as if it had been clicked). Is this even possible? I'm not really sure where to start. PS: I don't have enough rep on this SE to create tags... and there isn't already a tag for "google-calendar"...

  • Upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 stuck

    While upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, I'm stalled at the step: Installing new version of config file /etc/init/udevtrigger.conf The Terminal in the Distribution Upgrade window is expanded, there is no prompt for user input. I've hit enter a few times but it doesn't change anything but add a blank line after the last print statement. It's been sitting for ~6 hours at this stage. No other windows or dialog boxes are open. The upgrade has progressed through "Preparing to Upgrade", "Setting new software channels", and "Getting new packages". Under the progress bar (which estimates 1 day 2 hours remaining, and has for some time), it says Preparing to configure libpcap0.8. I'd take a screen-shot, but it won't let me save the file anywhere. The progress bar is about 1/3 complete.

  • how to get bash to stop escaping $ during tab-completion?

    I have this on the command line: ln -sf $PWD/wine- and then I hit tab to complete the filename. In earlier versions of Ubuntu, this worked just fine to complete the wine- filename (and as a side-effect $PWD would be expanded at that time). But now it turns it in to ln -sf \$PWD/wine- which isn't what I meant at all and doesn't complete anything as the file does not literally start with $. How do I get completion back to the less broken behaviour? set tells me these are my current settings: BASHOPTS=checkwinsize:cmdhist:expand_aliases:extquote:force_fignore:hostcomplete:interactive_comments:progcomp:promptvars:sourcepath SHELLOPTS=braceexpand:emacs:hashall:histexpand:history:interactive-comments:monitor

  • Why FontStretch does not work in WPF?

I am working on Windows XP with Framework 4.0 and tested both with Verdana and Arial. Does it work only on Windows 7 or only with some specific fonts?

  • Windows Batch Script to Replace Environment Variables in a File

    Hi. I want to write a batch file that will take the contents of a file, and replace any environment variable references inside the file with the actual environment variable values. Is this possible? Basically, if a file had this: %PROGRAM FILES%\Microsoft SQL Server\ then I would want the file contents to become: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\ after the batch script ran. This is just one example, but I want ALL environment variables to be expanded. Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm developing an application that as to export a dataset to excel, this dataset have 3 tables and the relation between them, I would like to export this to a single excel sheet where for each parent table there is a '+' sign that when expanded shows the child values related to it. I wanna keep the same functionality, but wanna be able to open and close a section by clicking on a link, as well as when I'm opening a section, I wan't it to close everything before opening this new section. I'm not sure I'm being very clear here, but by looking at the example, you will be able to understand better what I mean. Thnks in advance

I am looking something similar to Combobox in ExtJS except values have to appear when user clicks down arrow, like in normal dropdown.     jsbin for reference: http://jsbin.com/edago3/5/ When viewed in any other browser, the toggler works as you would expect it to. However, in IE (I'm using 8), you can only contract the currently expanded sub menu, and then you get undesired results once it is closed.
