  • Will final version of 12.04 use the power management changes found in kernel 3.3

    I have seen in some version of Ubuntu that instead of making a huge change to update to the latest kernel, they take some of the good stuff out of it, for the sake of stability and put it on a previous version. In this case, kernel 3.3 has seen some very good power management enhancements that are not all found in the kernel 3.2. My question then is: Will this updates in 3.3 be somehow pulled into the 3.2 kernel used for Ubuntu 12.04?

  • juju spends bootstrap-timeout with a final message it cannot find /var/lib/juju/nonce.txt

    I build two VMware's machines. First one with MAAS, second one with a fresh installation from MAAS. Region controller was installed with Ubuntu 12.04 distribution, and upgraded (. Node computing was installed from MAAS with Quantal 12.10. Juju was installed and upgraded to 1.18 (from ppa:juju/stable repository). MAAS was upgraded from cloud-archive:tools repository. In debug mode, I got how Juju connects to node. Then I run the same instruction: ssh -o "StrictHostKeyChecking no" -o "PasswordAuthentication no" -i /home/lliurex/.juju/ssh/juju_id_rsa -i /home/lliurex/.ssh/id_rsa [email protected] /bin/bash It worked (with and without /bin/bash). When Juju spends all bootstrap-timeout tells it has not found /var/lib/juju/nonce.txt file. It's true, it doesn't exist. It doesn't mind if you put a timeout of 1800, 3600 or 72000, it always finishes the same.

  • Performance difference between MacBook Pro (2.8 GHz) vs Air (1.7 GHz)?

    I'm comparing these two Apple laptops: MacBook Pro (13", 2011 model): 2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor with 4MB shared L3 cache 4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory on 2.4GHz configuration MacBook Air (13", 2011 model): 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with 3MB shared L3 cache 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 onboard memory Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory There's definitely a gap between them in terms of CPU speed and graphics, but what practical difference would this make on a day-to-day basis? On the one hand, I love the sleek, thin appearance of the Air. On the other hand, I don't want a machine that's going to be dog-slow when doing tasks such as running Virtual Machines, dual-booting to Windows and running multiple instances of Visual Studio, and maybe some light gaming. Is there going to be a major difference that makes the MacBook Pro a more attractive purchase?

Before I do so, I will need to speak to my manager on how to properly prepare and secure it since this is the first Mac that will be regularly used on the network in the office and company intranet. The intranet comprises mostly of PCs running Microsoft Windows XP, Server 2003, and Windows 7. So there's definitely a Microsoft-only culture in the office, and the infrastructure/networking team are mostly unfamiliar with non-Microsoft technology and software. What options do I have to encrypt files, or possibly the whole drive/partition? What network/firewall settings should be enabled?

  • How can I boot Ubuntu 10.04 on my MacBook Pro from a USB hard drive?

    I installed Ubuntu 10.04 to my MacBook Pro (not the latest gen with i7, but one before that) on an external, USB harddrive (GRUB installed to the external as well). When I hold down the option key to try to select the external, it doesn't show up. After some looking around, my understanding is that it won't boot 'unsupported' operating system from an external drive. I have ran OSX from an external when I upgraded my harddrive. What can I do (or is it even possible) to allow my MacBook Pro to boot the Ubuntu drive?

  • Part of the launcher has been cut off, Ubuntu 12.04

    After a hard drive failure on my iMac, I replaced it and installed Ubuntu. So far, I am finding it very easy to use, however there is one problem which is making it much harder. The bottom of the launcher is missing - it is 'covered' by the desktop background. This means that I cant see the trash, or bottom few icons. Even if I scroll, it doesn't show it. Any help is very much appreciated. If you send a message to [email protected], with the subject "launcher photo", I will send you an email with the photo of the missing part attached. Currently, my only fix is to enable and then disable the extra screen it thinks is there - called unknown device

Growth increases headcount in good times, and opportunistic or replacement hiring occurs in slow business cycles. By employing creative recruiting strategies in tandem with the latest technology developments, you can reduce recruiting costs while driving exceptional business results. Here are some critical areas to focus on. 1.  Target Direct Cost Savings Total recruiting process expenses are the sum of external costs plus internal labor costs. Most organizations can reduce recruiting expenses with direct cost savings. While additional savings on indirect costs can be realized from process improvement and efficiency gains, there are direct cost savings and benefits readily available in three broad areas: sourcing, assessments, and green recruiting. 2.     This book is more than just  a book about an ASP.NET CMS system -  it has much practical advice and examples for the Dot Net web developer. I liked the use of JQuery to detect that JavaScript was not enabled. One chapter was about MemCached - this one chapter could justify the price of the book if you run a server farm and need to improve performance. Some links to get you started are: Windows Memcache at http://code.jellycan.com/memcached/ Dot Net Access Library at http://sourceforge.net/projects/memcacheddotnet/ The chapters on scripting, performance analysis and search engne optimisation all provide excellent examples.   • Is there any Mac Pro hardware parts that can ONLY be purchased thru Apple?

    I'd like to know if I need to be concerned about any hardware parts that I should include in a brand new Mac Pro purchase, instead of trying to hunt it down on 3rd party vendors (or whitelist vendors / hardware suppliers). The main components I'm interested for "upgradeability" are: Processors (If starting with Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core "Westmere"); RAM (If starting with the least possible, which seems to be 6 x 1GB); Video Cards (If starting with one ATI Radeon HD 5770, can a 2nd one be purchased elsewhere?) Hard-Drives (Since these are mounted in specialized trays [if I'm not mistaking], are they also sold elsewhere? And can they be bought as SSDs?) Power Supply (Do I need to be concerned about this at all, or does it auto-adjust depending on the new component upgrades?) I just want to be sure by choosing a Mac Pro with lower component specifications that I can in fact purchase upgrade parts cheaper elsewhere. Thanks!

  • How to swap ctrl and fn key on a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 via Boot Camp?

    There are sooooo many discussion on the internet about swapping the fn and ctrl key on a MacBook Pro. On the Mac side, a new software called ReMap4MacBook does a perfect job swapping the two key. But on the PC side (specifically Windows 7), I can't really find a definitive answer. Most post refer to this article but I read the loooong article and followed the instructions to no avail. I remember there used to be a program (maybe it was on XP) that not only swapped the two keys but it also controlled the fans on the MacBook Pro. But I can't remember the name and I also recall that that program stopped being updated like years ago. EDIT: It's called Input Remapper. So I am hoping there exist a simple program that I can simply run to swap those two keys.

  • How can I format a USB drive as FAT from a MacBook Pro?

    I plugged in a 250GB USB hard drive into my MacBook Pro and want to format it in FAT so I can transfer files back and forth between a windows machine. (My windows7 machine only formats in exFAT which my Snow Leopard 2.6.4 doesn't support until I do the update). So I want to format it on the mac. but when I right click on the drive, it gives me the options to eject, copy, but not to format. I can go into Disk Utilities, click on Partition, but the only option is the "Mac Journaled format". How can I Format my USB drive as FAT from my MacBook Pro?

    ( sorry for my bad english in advance :D ) I'm trying to get a .exe setup output, from my UDK !( with my own maps and scripts which I made within MyGame) I tried UnrealFrontEnd! But It made a setup , that after installation I can see my .udk maps, my packages and etc. But It's not a real output that I can show to my customers. I don't want, other can use my resources ! So... How can I get a binary-like output from UDK as a real Game-Output ? ( like what we see in all commercial games ) Is there any option in frontend that I missed ?

  • Final steps in installing Matlab2012 on Ubuntu 12.04

    I have a problem with the MATLAB 2012 installation. After having installed it using alt+f2 and having used gksudo nautilus I have installed MATLAB in the correct folder which is: /usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a Then I inserted the license and the window told "activation complete" or something like that. This made me happy, but only for a while because as soon as I try to search for Matlab within the applications I cannot find it and neither if I try to run matlab into terminal it says: command not found Can someone help me!? Tanks in advance!
