• IIS Reverse Proxy support for multiple protocols

  I have a server 2012 machine running IIS. It's in my DMZ and I would like to use it to do reverse proxy for several services. I can get it to route traffic on port 80 to 2 separate internal servers running web apps but there are some issues when I try to forward SSH (not port 80/443) and then when I try to forward OWA (Micrsoft exchange's 'webmail' services) to the internal mail server I run in to issues with guides (like this: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/07/19/reverse-proxy-for-exchange-server-2013-using-iis-arr-part-1.aspx) when they say to have all traffic forwarded to the server farm created for OWA. My question for you all is this - given that there is no more Threat Management Gateway (only runs on server 2008) and ISA 2006 is also dead - is it possible to support multiple types of reverse proxies with different protocols (ftp, ssh, web, ssl-web) in IIS, or would it be better to install a different DMZ OS like a nginx server and use linux firewalls + nginx reverse proxy? • Demoted domain controller and now IIS has permissions issues

  I have a machine that was a domain controller and everything else, includin an IIS site. I built new 2 new domain controllers and transferred the FSMO roles and waited a day and then demoted the original domain controller. Now the IIS site says : HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized You are not authorized to view this page due to invalid authentication headers. I have a call in with the web app vendor, but maybe someone can guess what I need to fix now. I haven't looked at IIS since this was installed and am pretty lost. I thought about restoring the machine from a backup, but I think that would be an Active Directory disaster, right? The server is Windows 2008 (not R2). The new DCs are 2008 R2

• Setup IIS 7 as FTP Server that is connectable outside of my local network

  I was able to setup an FTP site that I was able to access via ftp://127.0.0.1/ or my local(static) ip. To do this I followed these instructions (with the exception that I did not bind to 127.0.0.1 as suggested) http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/301/creating-a-new-ftp-site-in-iis-7/ I have created a firewall exception for port 20 and 21, and setup port-forwarding on my wireless router. But I can only access the site via local-host, and I need to have a friend have read access to it. So how do I enable remote access to it? • ASP.NET directories blocked from VisualSVN Server behind reverse proxy in IIS 6

  I’ve got VisualSVN Server running behind a reverse proxy in IIS 6, Windows Server 2003. This isn’t ideal, but for the main web app on the server I’ve only got one IP address and SSL certificate available. Everything works except for when trying to commit to or browse the default ASP.NET directories (App_Browsers, App_Code, App_Data). SVN commits fail for these directories – which I believe is because IIS will never serve them by default. The reverse proxy uses a virtual directory in IIS – is there a change I can make in the web.config for this virtual directory to get around the issue?

• IIS: redirect everything to another URL, except for one Directory

  I have an IIS server (IIS 6, Win 2003) that hosts the site http://www.foo.com. I want any request to http://foo.com (no matter what path/filename is used) to redirect to http://www.bar.org/AwesomePage.html UNLESS the request is for http://www.foo.com/specialdir, in which case the HTML files in the local directory specialdir should be used. The problem I have is once the redirect is set it also affects /specialdir - even if I right click on that directory and select "content should come from ... local directory" that change does not take effect, and the directory still shows as redirecting to http://www.bar.org/AwesomePage.html. The same thing happens if I try to set individual files to load from the local system instead of redirecting - IIS gives no error, but the change does not take effect and the files still show as being redirected. How can I set specialdir to override the redirection to the new URL?

• IIS slow response

  I have developed ASP.NET 4.5 application which take infos about sensors from sqlite database every 3 seconds. This application runs nice on my local develop machine on IIS Express server. I have created virtual machine (4x 3,25 GHz CPU; 6GB RAM) where i have installed Windows Server 2012 and IIS 8 service in order to test application on real server because we will run it on production machine later. After installing VC++ 2010 x64 and VC++ 2010 x86 and set "Enable 32-bit application" to true in application pool website started to work but there is a large problem with response time. There is a for example 10 seconds delay before page loads. CPU utillization is about 10% and RAM about 1,5GB. I am new to configuring IIS server so i want to ask if there is some tip how to make it faster. I am sure, there will be some twist which will make it normal work. Many thanks.

  I have a Windows 2003 Server running IIS (due to an ASP Site needing to be hosted). I wanted to add some non ASP sites (HTML, PHP and MySQL) so I was thinking I could just run apache on 8080. What confuses me a bit is if someone hits DomiainA.com, IIS intercepts it and forwards it to DomainA.com:8080 where apache is running. I could do this by putting a server side javascript re-direct in the IIS www-root for the domain. What else can I do that might be more proper?

• Forcing exact hostname match in IIS

  I am looking how to force an exact hostname match within IIS when using https. For instance, I want "https://works.mysite.com/resource" to be ok, but "https://noworks.mysite.com/resource" to return 404 (assuming they both resolve to the same IP). IIUC, the default behavior of IIS when going to "https://noworks.mysite.com/resource" is to get a cert warning, if the user presses continue, the user is able to access the URL. I was able to do this by generating a *.mysite.com SSL cert, and then specify the hostname within the bindings in IIS, but without the * in the beginning, the hostname field is disabled and blank. Am I missing something simple here?

• Cstom handler on IIS 7.5 doesn't work

  Hi, I am new to IIS 7.5. I have an application in asp.net 2.0, which has its own custom URL rewriting mechanism. All the requests on the browser with .htm will be mapped to .aspx. It works fine on IIS 6, but somehow I could not get it working on IIS 7.5. On IIS 6, I go to Application PropertiesConfigurationMappings and add a new extension .htm with the executable as aspnet_isapi.dll On IIS 7.5 i added a handler mapping, with path as .htm and executable as aspnet_ispai.dll But the request does not even come to global.asax. If i try the URL with .aspx extension, pages load properly. Any idea how to set up custom mappings in iis 7.5?

• Setting "Run WWW service in IIS 5.0 isolation mode" does not persist in IIS 6

  Our IIS server was recently patched with the latest Microsoft Security Updates and since then, I am unable to enable the "Run WWW service in IIS 5.0 isolation mode" setting. This setting was enabled prior to patching and somehow changed during the updates. I have tried both using the IIS Manager console and the adsutil.vbs approach to change it. Either way, after resetting IIS for the change to take effect, when I go to verify that the isolation mode setting is enabled (true) I find that is reverts back to being disabled (false). Now... The patches have already been rolled back, however the setting still does not persist when I enable it. While I am trying to research the patches that were applied to see if there is a known issue (or perhaps a change in this setting's behavior) I was hoping someone else might have come across the same problem. • Can't login to Manager App in Tomcat 6.0.18

  Folks, I can't login to the manager app (localhost:8080/manager/html) in my Tomcat. More specifically, it asks for my username and password, and the ones supposed to be correct aren't accepted. Here's what I already checked: I tried editing my conf/tomcat-users.xml to add my user/role. Here's the current content of this file: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?> <tomcat-users> <role rolename="manager"/> <user username="tomcat" password="s3cret" roles="manager"/> </tomcat-users> I thought that maybe it wasn't looking up on this XML, but elsewhere. So, I came to know about Realms. The Realm part of my configuration is now: < Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.MemoryRealm" / ( please ignore the space before Realm, for some reason this site isn't accepting the literal tag ) What am I missing?

• Who is Configuration Manager?

  I would like to ask members of the community about the role of Configuration Manager, as you see it. I'm not asking what Configuration Management is, as long it had been asked before. What I need to know is: What tasks do you think Configuration Manager should perform (or performs) in your team? What is primary responsibility of Configuration Manager? What are secondary/auxiliary responsibilities of Configuration Manager? Does Configuration Manager need to be in charge of development processes on the project/company or he should be told what to do? What are relations between Configuration Manager, Build Manager, Release Manager, Deployment Engineer, CI Engineer roles? Aren't they all the same - Configuration Management? Maybe term Configuration Management is redundant and Technical/Team Lead should do all the related work instead? It would be really great if you could share your vision and experience.

  What roles do the Xorg server and a window manager, for example, metacity, play in displaying windows? Does the window manager communicate with the OS or Xorg? Does Xorg then use OpenGl to display things? Can someone explain what exactly the Xorg server does, and what exactly the window manager does, and the differences between the two. • Having IIS remote management problem with my vista machine managing Server 2008 IIS 7.5

  I am trying to use IIS 7 Remote Management installed on Vista Ultimate SP1. Connection is to IIS 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 Webserver R2. Tried on both full & core install. When I connect up, the console wants to download and install new features. Microsoft.Web.Management.IisClient 7.5.0.0 Microsoft.Web.Management.AspnetClient 7.5.0.0 I check the boxes and click OK and it downloads them and asks if I want to install them, but after I click run it just quits. I tried just choosing one or the other, same thing. I ran IIS Remote tool as administrator. These features installed correctly on my XP machine. Any ideas? UPDATE : If I had any Rep I would offer like 500 rep to get this fixed!

• Installing WindowsAuthentication breaks authentication / web.config?

  I have a clean Windows 2008 R2 box (on a VM) and have installed IIS 7.5 with default options. I then copied a website to it (from Windows 7, IIS 7) and after a little tweaking the website is working fine. The website is currently using and working with Anonymous Authentication. I have gone back to the Windows Components/Sever Manager, Roles - Security and ticked and installed Windows Authentication. When I check my server in IIS (top level above sites) - Authentication, I see Anonymous Authentication (enabled) ASP.NET Impersonation (disabled) Forms Authentication (disbaled) Windows Authentication (enabled) When I check my default website - Authentication, I see as above but "Retrieving status" and an error dialog saying There was an error while performing this operation. Details: Filename c:\inetpub\wwwroot\screwturnwiki\web.config Line number: 96 Error: This configuration section cannot be used in this path. This happens when the section is being locked at the parent level. Locking is either by default (overriderModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicity by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="False". I have tried hand editing the web.config with no success. UN-installing Windows Authentication happily returns my site to working with Anonymous Authentication, and allows me to enable/disable these three options. FYI. I am using ScrewTurnWiki with the Active Directory plug in.

• How do I configure multiple domain names on my IIS server? [closed]

  We have a few websites that we are running on one instance of IIS that need to be mapped for each of their domain names. For example. Site A has the domain name coolness.com Site B has the domain name 6to8Weeks.com Site C has the domain name PhatTech.com When I look at the "Web Site Identification" section of the IIS configuration window, I notice that I can specify an IP address and port, but if I click the Advanced button, I can also configure the site based on host header values as well. How do I configure each site in IIS? Ideally I would like them to all be able to listen to port 80, so I don't have weird URLs, but I'm not sure if I do this using headers, IP addresses, both, or something else.

• IIS 301 Redirect from "/index.html" to "/" for SEO Canonicalization

  I used the technique explained here for IIS (http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php), but this appears to result in an infinite loop when applied to "/index.htm" and redirected to "/". Is there another way to do this in IIS so that it doesn't loop infinitely? This page is static HTML, so I can't implement an ASP or ASP.net solution. Any ideas?

• Adding FTP publishing to IIS Website: cannot connect

  I used the wizard to add ftp publishing with anonymous access and mydomain.com as binding (I followed this tut: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/IIS-FTP-Publishing-Service-Part2.html ) When I try to connect with filezilla with anonymous user I get "EAI_NODATA - No address associated with nodename". The tutorial on IIS never mentions anything like this so how to fix this ? Should I use ftp.mydomain.com instead ? If yes should I do something (add A record in dns ?)

• Configure IIS 6.0 to serve all file extensions, even unknown ones

  I have a problem with IIS: if I ask an unknown file extension, such as .flv, it doesn't serve it and displays "page not found". I can configure it in the Mime Types, but I want to be able to specify a wildcard, like in IIS 7, where I can allow all types under "Request Filtering". Is it possible? Thanks!
