• Host spreads wrong MAC Adress of router on the WIFI

  Strange things are going on our network. Since yesterday a host which is actually not on our subnet spreads wrong ARP Replys on our network. To be precise, only on the WIFI. If I connect my Laptop to the cable ethernet, it gets the right MAC adress of the router. Also my Android phone and my Ubuntu system do get the right MAC Adress. So I took a look at wireshark. When I clear the ARP cache of the windows machine, the first ARP response is correct and comes from the router. But like 10 ms later another ARP response comes from another host in the WIFI. The host changes its IP Adresses from time to time and they look like they are not on our subnet. So I can not use the internet because DNS is not working anymore. Sometimes the router wins the race condition and the mac adress is set correctly in the arp cache. I first thought, this is an arp-poisoning mitm attack but it does not make sense if the packets get not routed correctly?! I restarted the router but it didn't help. I have no access to the router, else I would change the shared key to make sure there is no intruder on the wifi.

  We do have many frameworks available in Java. Struts, Swing, JSF 2.0, Spring etc are used as per their priority. Actually, I don't know how many they are as well! But, as I am fresher to Java, even learning after their architecture, I cannot decide which framework can be used with what type of Projects ! Also, I am confused with mixed use of framework like Spring + JSF. What is the benefit to it ? Another thing making me confusing is about the UI components available in market. Like, we do have Primefaces, Ice-faces, MyFaces, Rich-faces. They may or may not have been supporting AJAX in-built. They may contains some bugs as well. What is best choice for Framework + UI component that can directly provide a best feet solution for any project ?

• Easy to use/learn PHP framework?

  I need to build a php app, and I was thinking about using a framework (never used one before). I've been browsing around some but most of them seems kinda complicated, I really liked what I saw about Symfony, but it looks like I will have to spend like a month until I really understand how to use it, and in one month I could code the app I have in mind 5 times without a framework. But I want to use one to "standardize" my code and prevent bugs. So I was wondering if someone could share with me which php frameworks you think are easier to learn how to use. My application will use mysql, and it will have some sort of "search engine" to search data that will be populated on the database using a few "scraper scripts" (that I also wants to code using the framework).

• Mac OS Leopard: SyncServer process constantly using 100% CPU

  I am running Leopard that I upgraded from Tiger. I've been noticing that every once in a while the SyncServer process starts up and eats up all the CPU. The fans will start going at full blast and the laptop will slow down to a crawl. I need to force quit the process from Activity Monitor to get it under control. It disappears for a while, but eventually gets started again. I do have an iphone as well that I sync so I'm wondering if syncServer might be an apple process checking for my phone plugged in.   How can I bridge two wired ethernet interfaces on Mac OS X (e.g. the current MacPro comes with two ethernet ports)? Googling turned up (e.g. this Apple forum post and this openvpn post) that this is fairly easy on Linux (using the brctl command) and under Windows (via Network Connections right-click Bridge Connections), but how is it done under Mac OS X? BTW: There also doesn't seem to be a macport for brctl ('port search brctl' didn't turn up any results) Note: I don't want to have 'internet sharing', which creates a new network (by handing out network addresses in a new range). I want to really 'bridge' two interfaces so to keep the same network subnet.

  My Mac Mini has a setting in the Energy Saver category called Wake for Ethernet network access. Now the way I read this option is that any network access to the Mac whilst it is asleep will wake it up, but it doesn't. I have read that I have to send it the magic packet to wake it up, but what I really want to do is be able to simply attempt to access the Mini over the network and it wake up on demand without sending a magic packet. Can this be done? If it helps I am using a Netgear router.

  One of the things I like about Microsoft's RDC Client is that the resolution of the experience is set by the client and not, say, a physical monitor connected to the host, as is the case with VNC; the latter being the protocol used by Mac. This means that even though I'm connecting to a notebook with a 1280x800 physical resolution, via RDC I can run it at 2560x1600 on my 30" monitor. However, that only seems to work for RDC. Does anyone know of something I can run on the Mac that will allow me to remotely control it at a different resolution than what is physically set? TIA, Mark

• Adobe Reader unusably slow on Mac OS X 10.6.6

  We've got two Macs that are both running 10.6.6. On my MBP, Adobe (Acrobat) Reader started behaving weird a few weeks ago. It became very sluggish, started missing mouse clicks or mouse button releases, scrolling was next to impossible. Most of the time it does not handle Page Up / Page Down events at all. Zooming works erratically if at all. It's basically unusable. On the other Mac (an iMac), there are no such problems. I've tried to remove and reinstall Adobe Reader as well as upgrading to the latest version, but unfortunately without success. This is the only software that is behaving strangely on this Mac, everything else is working fine. What else could I try?

In particular, there are a number of neat musical apps (metronome, tuner, etc.) that seem highly rated, and have no real Mac equivalent. I don't have a recent iPod/iPhone/iPad (I don't need portability or a phone and it seems silly to pay hundreds of dollars to run $15 worth of apps), but I do have an Intel (C2D) Mac.   Ok, this is strange problem, and I couldn't find any solution for it yet. This happened today then @work I plugged in external speakers jack, speakers was playing, everything was OK. But after I took jack off, I couldn't hear any sound from mac speakers. It seems like disabled. So now I only can listen music through headphones or external speakers but not mac speakers.   So I am a small mac-user cog in a larger windows-based network machine. The network here works fine for most everyone else (on PCs), but I have random timeouts and issues with the Wifi. Luckily, I have identified a few problem access points by MAC address (via their log messages in Console.app). Is it possible to tell my Airport on my Macbook to avoid those access points, and only speak with the access points who are far less touchy about me drinking the Apple kool-aid? All of the points are on the same network SSID.

  I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.2 and have been handed a couple of old files that need to be extracted. Old backups or finances or bills I believe. They are RAR files, and password protected. Is there a way to extract the hash from these files so I can feed it into John The Ripper or Cain and Abel? Edit I have downloaded cRARk, but unfortunately nothing I have (SimplyRAR, RAR Expander, The Unarchiver) will extract it without a password. Can someone verify that I'm crazy and there is no password on the Mac version?

• How do I create /Groups/ folder in Mac OS X

  I am familiar with adding Groups with the GUI in MAC OS X, but I am trying to do it via SSH to a computer I remotely manage as a production server. I want to create / modify some of my users for a particular directory by creating a new group. In Another helpful serverfault post, I see that I need to add the users to the group name at /Groups/foo, however my system's Groups folder does not exist... Does Mac OS X create the Groups directory only when you actually create the group – if there do not already exist any groups on the Machine? Is this something that I can do simply using: mkdir "Groups" Or maybe I'm wrong altogether. Any pointers for how to go about this with Unix? – I should note also that this group will be used to manage the access to a directory on my server via an .htaccess file. Thanks!

• Spoofing MAC address to match other device

  At my school, there is a WiFi network where you can register up to one computer or phone. I, however, wish to connect my phone and my computer (Windows 7). I talked to an IT guy at my school and he told me that it registers the computer based on the MAC address (For the record, he's the one who suggested I spoof). So, I got my phone's MAC and now I want to change my computer's address to the same thing. I found this link and this video, so I know how to change it. I was wondering if that would run into problems because they are normally on the same network at home.
