  • How can you write tests for Selenium (or similar) which don't fail because of minor or cosmetic changes?

    - by Sam
I've been spending the last week or so learning selenium and building a series of web tests for a website we're about to launch. it's been great to learn, and I've picked up some xpath and css location techniques. the problem for me though, is seeing little changes break the tests - any change to a div, an id, or some autoid number that helps identify widgets breaks any number of tests - it just seems to be very brittle. so have you written selenium (or other similar) tests, and how do you deal with the brittle nature of the tests (or how do you stop them being brittle), and what sort of tests do you use selenium for?

  • What exercises counter the back pain of sitting at a computer for 15 hours a day? [on hold]

    - by Sam
I work up to 15 hours a day (not everyday :)) programming. When I do this I get a very sore lower back. I don't want to spend $1000 on a special chair like Joel Spolsky says. I'm sure I'm not alone here. Has anybody encountered this and found an exercise/other method to combat it? Maybe somebody with more physical education than me about opposing muscle groups or something. PS (not working fifteen hours a day isn't an answer, it's how I work best) and it's not off topic as programming is about more than code - it's a verb.

  • script shortcut to open two files in gedit as sudo

    - by Sam
I want to double click a file on my desktop, and have two files be opened in gedit as sudo. Whenever I'm making a new website, I need to open /etc/hosts /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default.conf as sudo. At the moment this means opening the terminal, runing sudo gedit then opening each file manually. I want to streamline this part of my workflow. On windows I had wrote a little bash script which worked nicely. How can I do the same in ubuntu? So far in my searches I've come across ways of adding a shortcut to the file browser, and similar things, but not exactly what I want. I have tried creating a desktop launcher, but can't see how to make it run as sudo.

  • 12.04 Taking forever for no apparent reason

    - by Sam
First off, I'd just like to say how much I'm loving Ubuntu so far. It's one of my first steps into Linux, but so far it's blown away Windows in almost every regard. Now, onto my problem. My brothers have some old Dell Dimensions that are barely clinging to life. They were both running XP Home Premium. The 2400 installed just fine, no issues at all. Now, the other computer, the 3000 isn't clearing the screen with the Ubuntu logo and the pulsing dots. I've tried multiple discs, including the exact same one that gave me no issue in the other computer, and I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where the problem might lay? They're both 32 bit Intel processors, and it's the correct version of Ubuntu. Is it a bad disc drive? Hardware incompatibility? Thanks for any assistance that can be provided. • Rendering multiple squares fast?

    - by Sam
so I'm doing my first steps with openGL development on android and I'm kinda stuck at some serious performance issues... What I'm trying to do is render a whole grid of single colored squares on to the screen and I'm getting framerates of ~7FPS. The squares are 9px in size right now with one pixel border in between, so I get a few thousand of them. I have a class "Square" and the Renderer iterates over all Squares every frame and calls the draw() method of each (just the iteration is fast enough, with no openGL code the whole thing runs smootlhy at 60FPS). Right now the draw() method looks like this: // Prepare the square coordinate data GLES20.glVertexAttribPointer(mPositionHandle, COORDS_PER_VERTEX, GLES20.GL_FLOAT, false, vertexStride, vertexBuffer); // Set color for drawing the square GLES20.glUniform4fv(mColorHandle, 1, color, 0); // Draw the square GLES20.glDrawElements(GLES20.GL_TRIANGLES, drawOrder.length, GLES20.GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT, drawListBuffer); So its actually only 3 openGL calls. Everything else (loading shaders, filling buffers, getting appropriate handles, etc.) is done in the Constructor and things like the Program and the handles are also static attributes. What am I missing here, why is it rendering so slow? I've also tried loading the buffer data into VBOs, but this is actually slower... Maybe I did something wrong though. Any help greatly appreciated! :)

  • After downloading the Wubi installer, what else do I need to do?

    - by Sam M
If I were to install Ubuntu via the method stated here; http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer Will I need to download/install anything else first? Do I simply select "Boot Ubuntu" and then go about my business? Will my HDD need partitioning beforehand? If I save files while running Ubuntu where do they go when I decide to boot Windows instead? Just trying to figure out the best way to use Ubuntu without removing the Windows OS (:

  • in sending with name using ? (counting), how does the process happen? [closed]

    - by sam
Sometimes expressions has two states. the result of analyses might be two different things but at the end, there might be the same answer(result) for them.(the way we get to the answer is different, but the result is the same) for example: P-Q = M P-T = M in lambda we have two solutions. 1.sending with name. (in ALGOL it have over load) 2.sending with value Example: Q: (?y.(yy) (?x.(xx)a)) 1.sending with name (?x.(xx)a ?x.(xx)a) ((aa)(aa)) 2.sending with value (?y.(yy) aa) ((aa)(aa)) now here is the question, in sending with name that used ? (counting), how does the process happen? How this sending (transmittal) happen? How does it work?

  • Identify Web Server from HTML File System

    - by bumble_bee_tuna
Hi I've been given the following html file system with no knowledge of where it came from. To me this appears to be from a web server. I've been hitting Google on "Sam" smsLtd can't find to much, is this "SAM" a propitiatory web server ? Can I throw this up on an Apache or IIS server ? Reason I ask is there are some xml data files that seem to assign permissions and logins. Figured I'd ask as I have never seen it before.

  • Many users send using a single address, replies to that single address go to many users

    - by Keyslinger
I work in an office with a Microsoft Exchange server for email. I would like to have the following workflow: John, Mary, or Sam send a message from Outlook on their respective computers. The customer receives the message from the address "[email protected]" The customer replies to the message from [email protected] and it is received by John, Mary, or Sam depending on who sent the message (if it was sent by John, the reply is sent to John, and so on). All users should also be able to send emails from their respective addresses as well (e.g. [email protected], etc.) Is this possible? If so, how can it be accomplished?

  • How do I use long names to refer to Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA)?

    - by Jason Stangroome
Commonly domain user accounts are used as service accounts. With domain user accounts, the username can easily be as long as 64 characters as long as the User Principal Name (UPN) is used to refer to the account, eg [email protected]. If you still use the legacy pre-Windows 2000 names (SAM) you have to truncate it to ~20 characters, eg mydomain\truncname. When using the New-ADServiceAccount PowerShell cmdlet to create a new Group Managed Service Account (gMSA) and a name longer than 15 characters is specified, an error is returned. To specify a longer name, the SAM name must be specified separately, eg: New-ADServiceAccount -Name longname -SamAccountName truncname ... To configure a service to run as the new gMSA, I can use the legacy username format mydomain\truncname$ but using usernames with a maximum of 15 characters in 2013 is a smell. How do I refer to a gMSA using the UPN-style format instead? I tried the longname$@domainfqdn approach but that didn't work. It also seems that the gMSA object in AD doesn't have a userPrincipalName attribute value specified.

  • Finding duplicate values in a SQL table

    - by Alex
It's easy to find duplicates with one field SELECT name, COUNT(email) FROM users GROUP BY email HAVING ( COUNT(email) > 1 ) So if we have a table ID NAME EMAIL 1 John [email protected] 2 Sam [email protected] 3 Tom [email protected] 4 Bob [email protected] 5 Tom [email protected] This query will give us John, Sam, Tom, Tom because they all have the same e-mails. But what I want, is to get duplicates with the same e-mails and names. I want to get Tom, Tom. I made a mistake, and allowed to insert duplicate name and e-mail values. Now I need to remove/change the duplicates. But I need to find them first.

  • YUI Calendar: Skinning and CSS

    - by dound
I'm using YUI 2's calendar in YUI 3. I want to make a few minor changes to the default sam skin. What is the best way to do that? Also, how does it load Sam's skin CSS? I didn't manually include it (though it seems like I should so the user can download it in the one request I make to the combo loader for css?). This is how I'm loading the CSS and JS now: <head> ... <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://yui.yahooapis.com/combo?3.1.0/build/cssreset/reset.css&amp;3.1.0/build/cssfonts/fonts.css&amp;3.1.0/build/cssbase/base.css"/> ... </head> ... <!--and at the end of the body tag:--> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://yui.yahooapis.com/combo?3.1.1/build/yui/yui-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/oop/oop-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/event-custom/event-custom-base-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/event/event-base-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/json/json-parse-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/querystring/querystring-stringify-simple-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/io/io-base-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/dom/dom-base-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/dom/selector-native-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/dom/selector-css2-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/node/node-base-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/node/node-style-min.js&amp;3.1.1/build/stylesheet/stylesheet-min.js&amp;2in3.1/2.8.0/build/yui2-calendar/yui2-calendar-min.js&amp;2in3.1/2.8.0/build/yui2-yahoo/yui2-yahoo-min.js&amp;2in3.1/2.8.0/build/yui2-dom/yui2-dom-min.js&amp;2in3.1/2.8.0/build/yui2-event/yui2-event-min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript">//<![CDATA[ YUI().use('yui2-calendar', function(Y) { var YAHOO = Y.YUI2; var cal = new YAHOO.widget.Calendar("cal",{navigator:true,mindate:'1/1/2000'); cal.render(); // ... The main problem I'm having is that it seems to dynamically load the Sam's skin, so any CSS I specify in my stylesheet or in the <head> section seem to be overridden. I can modify the style by getting the nodes and using YUI's Node.setStyle() method, but this doesn't seem like the best way to do things. Note: The script does include more than I need for just YUI 2's calendar, but that's because I use YUI 3 for other things irrelevant to this question.

I am applying truncation using CSS styles: .yui-skin-sam td:not(.yui-dt-editable) .yui-dt-liner{ white-space: nowrap; overflow: hidden; text-overflow: ellipsis; -ms-text-overflow: ellipsis; -o-text-overflow: ellipsis; -moz-binding: url('ellipsis.xml#ellipsis'); } .yui-skin-sam td[class~=yui-dt-editable] .yui-dt-liner{ white-space: nowrap; overflow: hidden; text-overflow: ellipsis; -ms-text-overflow: ellipsis; -o-text-overflow: ellipsis; } (Sidenote: I'm not sure if this is the best way to write my CSS. This is a Firefox specific workaround since truncation on Firefox only sort-of works). I want a tool-tip to appear over text that is truncated. How do I detect if text is truncated so that I can display a tool-tip?

  • issue in list of dict

    - by gaggina
    class MyOwnClass: # list who contains the queries queries = [] # a template dict template_query = {} template_query['name'] = 'mat' template_query['age'] = '12' obj = MyOwnClass() query = obj.template_query query['name'] = 'sam' query['age'] = '23' obj.queries.append(query) query2 = obj.template_query query2['name'] = 'dj' query2['age'] = '19' obj.queries.append(query2) print obj.queries It gives me [{'age': '19', 'name': 'dj'}, {'age': '19', 'name': 'dj'}] while I expect to have [{'age': '23' , 'name': 'sam'}, {'age': '19', 'name': 'dj'}] I thought to use a template for this list because I'm gonna to use it very often and there are some default variable who does not need to be changed. Why does doing it the template_query itself changes? I'm new to python and I'm getting pretty confused.

  • Finding duplicate values in a SQL table - ADVANCED
