  • How to make DataGrid Row really fully selectable (clicking on non-cell area)

    The question might be a little misleading. Here is a screenshot of a DataGrid that has some dummy values (code provided below) Is there a way to make the white area not covered by a cell clickable? My intention: I want to have full row selection.   • How can I communicate between Windows 8 and WP8 apps using ssl?

    I'm considering using either raw notifications (WNS) or sockets for communication between a Windows 8 and WP8 app. I've found some samples for using sockets but my question[s] here are: does WP8 support sending/receiving messages over ssl and, if so, how is it done? Something I need to be true or find a workaround for is that the Windows 8 app has a permanent IPAddress to which the phone app will send its updates. Typically, a tablet will be running Windows 8 app, always listening for incoming messages; the phone app will periodically send messages.

  • How to resize an image smoothly (with resampling) using Windows API calls?

    I need to resize images and resample them so they don't end up all jagged (I think that's called aliasing). I found some code (sorry, lost the link) that does this in pure VB6 code but it's a bit slow (2-5 seconds) and I'm displaying pictures in real time so I need something faster. I seem to recall seeing some examples of doing this with the GDI+ library. An example in VB6 would be ideal, but I can probably work with a simple example with Windows API calls in another language.

(I need to add the ability for a number of VB6 apps to "phone home" to a server and I'd like centralize this but don't want to do it with a DLL because I'd like to only need Firewall permission for one program (the "phone home ActiveX EXE). I've found a few tutorials but I'm looking for a downloadable project to "play around with".

  • How to insert an item into a key/value pair object?

    Ok...here's a softball question... I just need to be able to insert a key/value pair into an object at a specific position. I'm currently working with a Hashtable which, of course, doesn't allow for this functionality. What would be the best approach? UPDATE: Also, I do need the ability to lookup by the key. For example...oversimplified and pseudocoded but should convey the point // existing Hashtable myHashtable.Add("somekey1", "somevalue1"); myHashtable.Add("somekey2", "somevalue2"); myHashtable.Add("somekey3", "somevalue3"); // Some other object that will allow me to insert a new key/value pair. // Assume that this object has been populated with the above key/value pairs. oSomeObject.Insert("newfirstkey","newfirstvalue"); Thanks in advance.

  • Are there any "gotchas" to watch for in using a Class (object) within itself?

    I've got a Registry class and there are a few Registry values that I want to access from within that Registry class. (There is a bit of a calculation with these values so I thought I'd just put all that code right in the Registry Class itself). So we might have something within our RegistryRoutine.cls like: Function GetMyValue() as integer Dim R as new RegistryRoutine <calculations> GetMyValue=R.GetRegisetryValue (HKEY, key, value, etc.) End Function

  • Does the API call ExitProcess() work OK in VB6 if you follow the MS caveats?

    Microsoft indicates that VB6 doesn't support ExitProcess (to exit and return a value). However, it indicates that this call can fail under certain circumstances (if a thread hasn't been completed, etc.) so I'm wondering whether this call will work OK (consistently :-) as long as you obey the caveats in the article. I could go a step further and call ExitProcess() from the Sub Main or Form which stared the app. Update: after some more reading (I really did research this a bit before asking ) I found a suggestion to use the TerminateProcess API instead. I'm investigating that option. Any thoughts?

  • C compiler producing lightweight executeables

    I'm currently using MSVC for C++ but as I'm switching to C to write a very performance-intensive program (interpreter) I have to search for a fitting C compiler. I've looked at some binaries produced by Turbo-C and even if its old they seem pretty straigthforward and optimized. Now I don't know what the best compiler for building an interpreter is, but maybe you can help me. I've considered GCC but as I don't know much about it, I can't be really sure.

  • Languages with C/C++ output [closed]

    Which languages have compilers able to emit plain standard C/C++ code? For a start: Haxe // uses Boehm GC Haskell (JHC) Haskell (old GHC) // -fvia-c, removed recently (emitted code is super ugly) Clay ATS Cython RPython (Shed Skin) // experimental RPython (PyPy) Python (Nuitka) // although author claims there are no speedups Common Lisp (ECL) COBOL (OpenCobol) Scheme (Chicken) APL // So far I've not found working implementation available for free download Ur/Web // GCC-specific output, and intended to be used only for web developments (included for completeness only) I'd like to build comprehensive up-to-date list but found only these ones so far. I've tested only Haxe and it works pretty well and quite fast. What about other ones? What is your expirience? How much ugly is generated code? Update. Any language chains (e.g. X - Scheme - C) will be perfectly OK as answer if its use is practical enough and suited for production use.

  • sudo taking long time

    On a Ubuntu 9 64bit Linux machine, sudo takes longer time to start. "sudo echo hi" takes 2-3 minutes. strace on sudo tells poll("/etc/pam.d/system-auth", POLLIN) timesout after 5 seconds and there are multiple calls(may be a loop) to same system call (which causes 2-3min delay). Any idea why sudo has to wait for /etc/pam.d/system-auth? Any tunable to make sudo to timeout faster? Thanks Samuel
