• APC UPS-5000 Power off remote servers

  Hi there, I have a UPS connected via the serial port to a server using PowerChute Business Edition. If a power outage occurs I would like this server to start shutting down all other servers within the network. Is there dedicated software to do this? I was thinking of creating a command file which runs a .bat file to run shut down commands to each server (using PSExec). I can set PowerChute to run this command file when a power failure occurs. Is there not anything APC provide which has this functionality and is more efficient than writing a .bat file to do this? Thanks,

• Fix X11 forwarding on OSX

  I am looking for a way to fix/debug a X11 forwarding session on OSX. Here is my situation: From my mac I connect to a Ubuntu workstation with ssh -X (tried ssh -Y as well). X11 forwarding works perfectly with firefox for instance, X11/Quartz is started automatically on OSX and firefox is displayed. X11 forwarding does not work with bat (Bacula graphical console): X11 is started but no window is displayed. There are no errors (/private/var/log/system.log). When I try doing the same from another Ubuntu workstation, it works perfectly for both firefox and bat. I guess the problem is on OSX side then. I tried switching some options in X11 but nothing works. Would you have any idea on how to move forward? Thanks!

  The Last Result column of the Scheduled Tasks Window on Windows Server 2003, displays the result of the execution of the .exe, .vbs, .ps1, .bat, .cmd, etc... that has been run at the scheduled time. There is also an archived history of this value that appears in the Scheduled Tasks Log (Found on the Scheduled Tasks Window under the Advanced->View Log) Now my question is, if I'm running a scheduled task that is a .exe, .vbs, .ps1, .bat, .cmd, etc... how do I use that process to return a specific Last Result when the process ends? P.S. If you think this question should be split up into smaller parts since I'm painting pretty broadly with it, just let me know and I'll split it into subsequent smaller questions

• Windows batch file reference to own directory

  Suppose you have C:\foo\foo.bat which needs to refer to C:\foo\foo.txt. It may be run from a different directory, but needs to get foo.txt from its own directory, not the current directory. Obviously this could be done by putting the full path C:\foo\foo.txt in foo.bat. The twist is, it's not known at the time of writing the batch file, where it will end up residing on the user's machine, so what the batch file actually needs to do is get foo.txt from the directory where I live, wherever that happens to be. (In a C program I'd use argv[0] but that doesn't seem to work with batch files.) Is there a way to do this?

  I am new to JBoss. Basically I have managed to cluster 2 nodes with: Node 1: run.bat -c all -g DefaultPartition –u 230.0.0.4 -b 10.67.51.28 -Djboss.messaging.ServerPeerID=1 Node 2: run.bat -c all -g DefaultPartition –u 230.0.0.4 -b 10.67.50.21 -Djboss.messaging.ServerPeerID=2 I know that if i cofigure a Apache load balancing(Mod_JK) to sit infront of the cluster, the client simply just punch in the IP of the Apache, and Apache will redirect the traffic to the nodes. But I do not want to have a Apache infront of the cluster. So how do my client access the cluster?? Do i need to configure something in JBoss, or isit a MUST to have a load balancer for the client to access the cluster?? MANY thanks in advance....

  i have a bat file im trying to schedule every morning. whilst in the Scheduled Task Wizard... when i click on finish... i get a ... The new task could not be created. The specific error is: 0x8007005: Access is denied. Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application I have attempted using both a domain account that is an administrator on the box... and a local account that is an administrator on the box. On another machine ... i have managed to get this work.. but cannot figure out the difference in configuration. It is using the domain account to run the bat file.

• How can I run a jar on a domain server?

  Sorry, I'm not very experience with web development so I don't know the correct names for everything. I only have FTP access to my server, so I'm hoping that's all I'll need. I could do this easily on a windows computer, via .bat files (I know how to use .jar files), but, like I said, I only have FTP access, so I don't know exactly what to do. Would this involve a script? Could I just use a .bat file somehow? Or maybe php?

• PING through batch file (looping problem)

  I created a .BAT file in Windows 7 that has the following lines: PING XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX -t (XXX replaces the actual IP number). However, when I double click on this batch file, I can see the PING command repeatedly being executed in a loop. I even tried to rename the .BAT to .CMD but the result is the same. I want to avoid writing PING command through the Command Prompt, which is why I created the batch file. I don't know why the PING command is being continuously called when the same statement is put in a batch file.

Within the NAnt task is a C# script which prompts the developer for database credentials (username, password, database) in order to compile the forms and reports. I want to then run these credentials against the relevant database to ensure the credentials entered are correct and, if they are not, prompt the user to re-enter their credentials. However, as mentioned in the link, Microsoft is discontinuing support for this so it is not a desireable solution. I have also fonud that Oracle provides its own classes for connecting to Oracle databases clicky. However, this only seems to support connecting to Oracle 9 or newer databases (clicky) so it is not feasible solution as I also need to connect to Oracle 6i databases. I could achieve this by calling a bat script from within the C# script, but I would much prefer to have a single build file for simplicity. Ideally, I would like to run a series of commands such as is contained in the following .bat script: rem -- Set Database SID -- set ORACLE_SID=%DBSID% sqlplus -s %nameofuser%/%password%@%dbsid% set cmdsep on set cmdsep '"'; --" set term on set echo off set heading off select '========================================' || CHR(10) || 'Have checked and found both Password and ' || chr(10) || 'Database Identifier are valid, continuing ...' || CHR(10) || '========================================' from dual; exit; This requires me to set the environment variable of ORACLE_SID and then run sqlplus in silent mode (-s) followed by a series of sql set commands (set x), the actual select statement and an exit command. • GlassFish Clustering with DCOM on Windows

  DCOM - Distributed COM, a Microsoft protocol for communicating with Windows machines. Why use DCOM? In GlassFish 3.1 SSH is used as the standard way to run commands on remote nodes for clustering.  It is very difficult for users to get SSH configured properly on Windows.  SSH does not come with Windows so we have to depend on third party tools.  And then the user is forced to install and configure these tools -- which can be tricky. DCOM is available on all supported platforms.  It is built-in to Windows. The idea is to use DCOM to communicate with remote Windows nodes.  This has the huge advantage that the user has to do minimal, if any, configuration on the Windows nodes. Implementation HighlightsTwo open Source Libraries have been added to GlassFish: Jcifs – a SAMBA implementation in Java J-interop – A Java implementation for making DCOM calls to remote Windows computers.   Note that any supported platform can use DCOM to work with Windows nodes -- not just Windows.E.g. you can have a Linux DAS work with Windows remote instances.All existing SSH commands now have a corresponding DCOM command – except for setup-ssh which isn’t needed for DCOM.  validate-dcom is an all new command. New DCOM Commands create-node-dcom delete-node-dcom install-node-dcom list-nodes-dcom ping-node-dcom uninstall-node-dcom update-node-dcom validate-dcom setup-local-dcom (This is only available via Update Center for GlassFish 3.1.2) These commands are in-place in the trunk (4.0).  And in the branch (3.1.2) Windows Configuration Challenges There are an infinite number of possible configurations of Windows if you look at it as a combination of main release, service-pack, special drivers, software, configuration etc.  Later versions of Windows err on the side of tightening security be default.  This means that the Windows host may need to have configuration changes made.These configuration changes mostly need to be made by the user.  setup-local-dcom will assist you in making required changes to the Windows Registry.  See the reference blogs for details. The validate-dcom Command validate-dcom is a crucial command.  It should be run before any other commands.  If it does not run successfully then there is no point in running other commands.The validate-dcom command must be used from a DAS machine to test a different Windows machine.  If  validate-dcom runs successfully you can be confident that all the DCOM commands will work.  Conversely, the opposite is also true:  If validate-dcom fails, then no DCOM commands will work. What validate-dcom does Verify that the remote host is not the local machine. Resolves the remote host name Checks that the remote DCOM port is being listened on (135, 139) Checks that the remote host’s File Sharing is enabled (port 445) It copies a file (a script) to the remote host to verify that SAMBA is working and authorization is correct It runs a script that it copied on-the-fly to the remote host. Tips and Tricks The bread and butter commands that use DCOM are existing commands like create-instance, start-instance etc.   All of the commands that have dcom in their name are for dealing with the actual nodes. The way the software works is to call asadmin.bat on the remote machine and run a command.  This means that you can track these commands easily on the remote machine with the usual tools.  E.g. using AS_LOGFILE, looking at log files, etc.  It’s easy to attach a debugger to the remote asadmin process, “just in time”, if necessary. How to debug the remote commands:Edit the asadmin.bat file that is in the glassfish/bin folder.  Use glassfish/lib/nadmin.bat in GlassFish 4.0+Add these options to the java call:-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=y,address=1234  Now if you run, say start-instance on DAS, you can attach your debugger, at your leisure, to the remote machines port 1234.  It will be running start-local-instance and patiently waiting for you to attach.

Can anyone tell me the step by step procedure to create the dbml file from the Dblinq source code. Edit: Steps I Followed: I downloaded the source file from this link. Edited the "run_sqliteMetal.bat" file in \\DbLinq-0.19\src\DbMetal folder as 'DbMetal.exe -database:myDb.db3 -namespace:myNS -code:myCode.cs' -dbml:myDbml.dbml Tried to run the DbMetal project file to produce the executable but there was a runtime error since Options object in Parameters.cs was null. Hence downloaded the readymade exe file from this location Copied it into the \DbLinq-0.19\src\DbMetal folder Executed the "run_sqliteMetal.bat" file I got a blank screen and Windows Error Msg "DbLinq has stopped Working" Any help?   I need a regexp to match something like this, 'text' | 'text' | ... | 'text'(~text) = 'text' | 'text' | ... | 'text' I just want to divide it up into two sections, the part on the left of the equals sign and the part on the right. Any of the 'text' entries can have "=" between the ' characters though. I was thinking of trying to match an even number of 's followed by a =, but I'm not sure how to match an even number of something.. Also note I don't know how many entries on either side there could be. • Watin from TeamCity not running as a Windows Service

  I'm trying to run Watin from within a TeamCity build, using nUnit. All tests run fine locally. I know you cannot run the full Watin tests (i.e. POST) from TeamCity if it is running as a Windows Service. You must start the build agent from a .bat file. But, I don't want to have to login to the server for it to start. I've tried getting a Scheduled Task (in Windows Server 2008) to fire the agent.bat file on StartUp (not Login), but with no luck. Has anyone else got Watin/TeamCity running from a Scheduled Task? Thanks, Pete

• Tiny MCE ImageManager Plugin, "cant create instance of plugin"

  We just bought MCImageManager and went right on to creating our own plugin. I followed http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/MCI … ing_plugin from start to end but got stuck on the last step. After configuring the build.bat file (that comes along the package) it gives me no errors, i checked all paths and it should work but there just is no plugin.dll file anywhere to be found. (The bat file is also linked to the .net 1.4322, that should be changed by you at tinyMCE in my opinion) To circumvent that problem I started a new project and compiled the plugin.dll through Visual Studio. Then placed the dll in the c:..\project\plugins\plugin\bin\ folder (at the same place as the _TemplatePlugin.dll file but with the plugins name) All i get from running the application is "Could not create instance of plugin class: Moxiecode.Manager.Plugins.Plugin" What is it I'm missing? All the other plugins ain't giving this error and they follow the same structure as my custom plugin. Thanks in advance //Micael

Gem files will remain installed in C:/Program Files/NetBeans 6.9 RC2/ruby/jruby-1.5.0/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/curb-0.7.6 for inspection. Results logged to C:/Program Files/NetBeans 6.9 RC2/ruby/jruby-1.5.0/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/curb-0.7.6/ext/gem_make.out Any ideas how I can get this to work? Or did you know very fast feed parser gem?

But in eclipse both share a single console. Is there any plugin or some sort of cheat through which I can do this. • How do you get notified of your repos' updates?

  I'm working on several repositories at work and would like to be informed, if anything changes in the SVN repositories. I made a small BAT script (yes, BAT is usefull sometimes) that keeps executing an svn log -r BASE:HEAD on my working copy. It shows all submit comments and revision dates. It works really well but it's not comfortable for different repositories. How do you keep track of changes in your repositories? Do you use a small program you made for yourself? Do you use software someone else made? I'm interested in every approach to this problem. I would like to get notifications and several more information about the commit. The IDE integrated functions are good, but work only if I request the information. I don't want to act to get this information. Platform: Windows, Subversion 1.5 and higher.

• Why is QProcess converting the '=' in my arguments to spaces

  I've run into a weird error with a Qt program running on Windows. The program uses QProcess to spawn a child process wit two arguments. The program and arguments passed to the QProcess::start() method are of the form: "batchfile.bat" "--option1=some_value" "--option2=some_other_value\with_a\path" For some reason by the time those options get to the batchfile for processing the equals signs have been converted to spaces and it now looks like: "batchfile.bat" "--option1 some_value" "--option2 some_other_value\with_a\path" because of this, the processing fails. Any ideas what could be causing the equal signs to be replaced by spaces? I'm using the mingw build of the QT 4.6.3 framework found on the Qt download page.
