• Ubuntu Cannot change permissions on files I own and have RW to.

  Hello there, I have a harddrive full of backups which for me is mounted at /media/chronus_ I have been trying to give another user rw permission to this drive. I will wish to change the gateway of a Proxmox virtual machine (openvz) who runs on this dedicaced server to go through the failover IP rather than the ip of host main server. • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Cannot Change DNS Domain Context on Some Machines

  So I have a small Windows Server 2008 R2 network consisting of a domain controller, a file server, sql server, etc. All machines are joined to a windows domain (CPUSHIELD.COM) and show up in Active Directory Users and Computers under the Computers OU. Each computer has a DNS record as well that was populated when I joined each computer to the domain. However, when I go to my SQL server VM (which is joined to CPUSHIELD.COM) and try to add domain users or groups to the local users or groups on my file server (which is a physical machine) or my sql server (which is a virtual machine), for some reason I cannot change the context to the CPUSHIELD.COM domain.. For example: Here is the really strange thing, I have two other servers on my network that do show CPUSHIELD.COM in the From This Location field (as I would expect with any machine joined to a domain) and I am able to search the local machine and/or domain for users/groups to add. I have done hundreds of Windows Server 2008 installs and this is the first time I have run into this issue. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more info

• Can't Connect w/ SQL Management Studio After Domain Change

  Our old Small Business Server 2003 (acting as our domain controller) was on the fritz, so we replaced it with a new Windows Server 2008 box and set the server up as our new domain controller. In hindsight, it may have been a mistake, but we set up the new server as a replacement and tried to keep as much the same as possible, including the DOMAIN name. The problem was, that even though the domain name was the same, the guest computers somehow still realized it was not the exact same domain. We had to unjoin and rejoin the domain and port over everyone's documents and settings. This morning, when I attempted to connect to my local SQL Server Instance, it was saying that my login failed. When I tried to use the SQL Management Studio, it throws the error "Package 'Microsoft SQL Management Studio Package' failed to load" on startup, then exits without giving me a chance to change the login. I am using Mixed Authentication and have an administrative account as a backup. Ideas? If there is a more appropriate stack, please let me know where to put it.

Anyways, on this one particular computer, the person said they had to make a new account called User01 to do something and showed me where she'd created it under security in the "master" system database. And so now when she logs in, it's listed as MACHINE_NAME\User01 (not the actual Windows user name). It's still set to Windows Authentication, though, and I'm unable to change the login name. Now here's where the real problem comes in... I didn't realize that she was being logged in under this user name at the time, and I disabled it to see what would happen. Now I can't log into the server under her account. I created a new account in Windows called test, and as expected SSMS had the username as MACHINE_NAME\test, and I was able to log in fine. However, the area where the User01 account was listed is not visible to me as far as I can tell and so I can't reenable it. I also tried running the following query: alter login User01 ENABLE And got this error: Msg 15151, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot alter the login 'User01', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. So in a nutshell, ideally I'd like to reenable User01 somehow, just to get things back to where they used to be. Failing that, how can I force SSMS to log in using the Windows account name as it should be, rather than trying to use User01?

• PHP script not automatically updating when moved to another server

  A friend built a ranking system on his site and I am trying to host in on mine via WordPress and Go Daddy. It updates for him but when I load it to my site, it works for 6 hours, but as soon as the reload is supposed to occur, it errors and I get a 500 timeout error. His page is at: jeremynoeljohnson .com/yakezieclub My page is currently at http://sweatingthebigstuff.com/yakezieclub but when you ?reload=1 it will give the error. Any idea why this might be happening? Any settings that I might need to change? Here is the top of the index.php file. I'm not sure which part of any of it is messing up. I literally uploaded the same code as him. • Change Windows 7 Explorer's Details Pane limits

  For some reason, MS decided to completely kill the status bar's functionality in Win7 (and maybe Vista, but I don't know for sure). I have tried all possible options such as Classic Shell and so on. Basically, the one thing I miss most is seeing at a glance the total size of my selected files. I know I can press Alt+Enter or whatever, but that's not the point. The point is that the so-called 'details' pane stops providing details if more than 15 files are selected! WTH? Cannot understand the reason behind such a stupid arbitrary limit, that doesn't seem to be user-configurable at all. Anyway, what I'm looking for is a way to change that limit, either via the registry or otherwise. If changing the limit isn't possible, would it be possible for some programming genius to create a very small optimized light-weight non resource-hungry (you get the idea!) program whose sole purpose will be to automatically click the "Show more details..." link in the details pane after every file selection? For bonus points, the program should wait for a second or two after file selection is complete to do this, so that selecting multiple files in quick succession doesn't hit the HDD repeatedly. Any takers for the challenge? :)

  I have a video for which I'd like to convert the audio codec to AAC 320 kbps / 44.100 kHz. What would I use for ffmpeg switches such that all the video settings and codec remain the same, but only the audio codec and settings change? • Change source address based on destination IP

  We have several "router" machines that gather a lot of external IP addresses on the same host and redirect, NAT or proxy the traffic to the internal network. They also act as routers for the machines on the internal network. This works fine, however I am unable to make the routing table, so I can change the source address, based on the destination a machine from the internal network want to access. Let's say I have a router, that has public addresses P1 (5.5.5.1/24) and P2 (5.5.5.2/24). All traffic goes through P1, but if necessary, the host is reachable on P2 too. This looks like this and works fine: > ip addr ... 1: eth1: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP qlen 1000 link/ether aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:11 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 5.5.5.1/24 brd 5.5.5.255 scope global eth1 inet 5.5.5.2/24 brd 5.5.5.255 scope global secondary eth1:p2 ... Now I want to use P2 as the source address, if I want to access the Google DNS service for example (8.8.8.8). So I add a row in the routing table like: > ip route add 8.8.8.8 via 5.5.5.254 dev eth1 src 5.5.5.2 > ip route ... default via 5.5.5.254 dev eth1 5.5.5.0/24 dev eth1 proto kernel scope link src 5.5.5.1 8.8.8.8 via 5.5.5.254 dev eth1 src 5.5.5.2 ... But this does not work. If I ping 8.8.8.8, the host still uses P1 as the source address, and does not use P2 at all for outgoing connections. Am I doing it right? I guess not...

• How to perform this Windows 7 permissions change on many files via GUI or command line

  After using my external hard drive on another Windows 7 computer to tweak photos with Windows Live Photo Gallery then upload them to Facebook I found the modified images were now not visible on the original Windows 7 computer. I'm not sure if the things I tried to get it working subsequently changed anything, but I do know this is the sequence of actions that makes the permissions of the modified files match those of the unmodified files: Right click on broken image file, select "Properties" On the "Security" tab press the "Advanced" button In the "Permissions" tab press the "Continue" button with the shield icon on it Tick the box marked "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent Click the "Remove" button to remove the only current entry "Type: Allow, Name: Administrators (XYZ\Administrators), Permission: Full control, Inherited From: OK on the "Permissions" tab. OK on the "Security" tab. Now this same procedure does not work at the folder level. It results in "access denied" dialogs. I'm looking for some way to perform this exact modification on all the images I edited on the other computer. I'm happy to use the Windows GUI in Explorer or any other included tools. I'm happy to use the Windows command line. I'd prefer not to use a third-party tool since I'd have to be satisfied it's not doing anything else. I'm not looking for a different way to change permissions to other settings to make an external drive full of photos editable on multiple computers. At least not in this question.

• Change the background color of selected text in Google Docs to increase readability [migrated]

  How can I override or change the background color of text selected in Google Docs? It is difficult for me to see the difference and I would like to increase the contrast or difference. After Google restyled Google Docs last year (or earlier this year), I've been unable to see selected text. It's possible this is a visual deficiency with my eyes. In Google Docs, under both Google Chrome (17.0.963.83 (Official Build 127885) m) and Firefox (11.0), when I select text inside a Google Doc, the selected text has a background of color #d6e0f5. Compare this to the default browser background color of #2f65c0. (I determined the color of the selected text background by taking a screenshot and using the color picker tool in Photoshop). I've tested this using a brand new Firefox profile as well as google chrome profile. Here's a section of a screenshot showing the selected text : I've tried using a userscript to override the CSS to go back to the default text selection color using the "Stylish" plugin with this css : ::selection { background:#2f65c0; color:#ffffff; } ::-moz-selection { background:#2f65c0; color:#ffffff; } ::-webkit-selection { background:#2f65c0; color:#ffffff; } This code works on other sites, but I'm unable to get it to work on Google Docs. (I tested on other sites but applying the userscript to a different domain and using bright yellow instead of the default dark blue #2f65c0.) When you use Google Docs, do you have the same color background for selected text or something different? (To test this, browse to docs.google.com , create a document, type text into the document, select the text with the mouse by dragging over it, take a screenshot, load the screenshot up in an image editor and determine the background color of the selected text.) This color differential (between light blue #d6e0f5 and white #fffff) may be easy to see for others and the problem lies with my eyes.

• Javascript Noob Question. Need Help With Simple Script

  Hi everyone, I am new to JavaScript (only a couple of days of reading a book) and I am stuck on this code snippet. I have looked at it over and over again but cannot seem to figure out why it is not working. I am sure it is something really simple that I have just looked over but I really just need a fresh pair of eyes to look at this. The code is supposed to update a placeholder image on a page without the page having to reload. But when I am clicking on the link of an image, it is taking me to the link where the image is located instead of replacing the placeholder image.   Hi everyone, I am new to JavaScript (only a couple of days of reading a book) and I am stuck on this code snippet. I have looked at it over and over again but cannot seem to figure out why it is not working. I am sure it is something really simple that I have just looked over but I really just need a fresh pair of eyes to look at this. The code is supposed to update a placeholder image on a page without the page having to reload. But when I am clicking on the link of an image, it is taking me to the link where the image is located instead of replacing the placeholder image. The Expected Solution The first solution was to use the innerHTML property of the style element (retrieved through its id), but while it works on Firefox, it fails on Internet Explorer 7. So, I used pure DOM methods, that is, creating an element called style, a text node with the desired content, and append the text node as a child of the style node, etc. It fails, too. According to MSDN, the <style> element has an innerHTML property, and according to W3C, the <style> element is a HTMLStyleElement, which derives from HTMLElement, deriving from Element deriving from Node, which has the appendChild method. It seems to behave as if the content of a <style> element was readonly on Internet Explorer. The Question So the question is: Is there a way to modify the content of a <style> element on Internet Explorer?   I am trying to write a bash script to do a task, I have done pretty well so far, and have it working to an extent, but I want to set it up so it's distributable to other people, and will be opening it up as open source, so I want to start doing things the "conventional" way. Unfortunately I'm not all that sure what the conventional way is. Ideally I want a link to an in depth online resource that discusses this and surrounding topics in depth, but I'm having difficulty finding keywords that will locate this on google. At the start of my script I set a bunch of global variables that store the names of the dirs that it will be accessing, this means that I can modify the dir's quickly, but this is programming shortcuts, not user shortcuts, I can't tell the users that they have to fiddle with this stuff. Also, I need for individual users' settings not to get wiped out on every upgrade. Questions: Name of settings folder: ~/.foo/ -- this is well and good, but how do I keep my working copy and my development copy separate? tweek the reference in the source of the dev version? If my program needs to maintain and update library of data (gps tracklog data in this case) where should this directory be? the user will need to access some of this data, but it's mostly for internal use. I personally work in cygwin, and I like to keep this data on separate drive, so the path is wierd, I suspect many users could find this. for a default however I'm thinking ~/gpsdata/ -- would this be normal, or should I hard code a system that ask the user at first run where to put it, and stores this in the settings folder? whatever happens I'm going ot have to store the directory reference in a file in the settings folder. The program needs a data "inbox" that is a folder that the user can dump files, then run the script to process these files. I was thinking ~/gpsdata/in/ ?? though there will always be an option to add a file or folder to the command line to use that as well (it processed files all locations listed, including the "inbox") Where should the script its self go? it's already smart enough that it can create all of it's ancillary/settings files (once I figure out the "correct" directory) if run with "./foo --setup" I could shove it in /usr/bin/ or /bin or ~/.foo/bin (and add that to the path) what's normal? I need to store login details for a web service that it will connect to (using curl -u if it matters) plan on including a setting whereby it asks for a username and password every execution, but it currently stores it plane text in a file in ~/.foo/ -- I know, this is not good. The webservice (osm.org) does support oauth, but I have no idea how to get curl to use it -- getting curl to speak to the service in the first place was a hack. Is there a simple way to do a really basic encryption on a file like this to deter idiots armed with notepad? Sorry for the list of questions, I believe they are closely related enough for a single post. This is all stuff that stabbing at, but would like clarification/confirmation over.

  I'm trying to create a three select dropdowns that represent a persons birthday. I'm taking into consideration that there are 4 months with 30 days, 7 with 31 ,and 1 with 28 or 29 depending if it's a leap year or not. I would like the days dropdown to show the number of days depending on which month is chosen in the month dropdown. Here's what I have now.
