  • Choosing the Database Solution for Large Data Application

    I have been tasked to write an application that will be a combination of document and inventory management in VB.net which will be used to store document images in TIFF, PDF, XPS, TXT, DOC, PPT and so on as binary data that can be retrieved for viewing, printing, and possible OCR to be searchable as well along with meta data such as sender, recipient, type of document, date, source, etc. So the table would probably be something like: DOC_NAME, DOC_DATE, NOTES, ... DOC_BINARY (where the actual document will be put inside) What my concern is finding a database solution that will not become unstable due to size restrictions, records limitations and performance. Some of the options are MS_SQL, SQL Express, SQLite, mySQL, and Access. Now I can pretty much eliminate Access right off the bat as it is just too limiting and not scalable. I can further eliminate SQL Express because of the 2 GB limit and again scalability. So that leaves me with MS_SQL, SQLite and mySQL (although if anyone has other options they think would be good as well, please feel free to share them, by no means am I set on these only). So this brings me to what you guys think is the best option for what I have described. The goal is that the data is all in one place (a single file) that will make backup and portability easier. For small volume usage, pretty much any solution will hold for a while, but my goal is to think ahead and make sure its able to withstand heavy large volume usage as well. Another consideration is also the interoperability with .NET and stability of such code to avoid errors and memory leaks. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • printing from crystal reports activex printcontrol gives needless error

    I've got an asp.net application running on a windows 2008 64 bit server that gives an error after printing a crystal report. The server has CR 2008 runtime sp2 installed and views fine. When printing from the print button of the CR viewer the print dialog appears and prints correctly but throws the following error message after printing. "An error occurred on the server. Printing will be stopped. Would you like to view the error information" there is a yes or no option that points to an empty html file called PrintControlError.html. Other then this issue I've got no other troubles.

    There's something that I don't get it yet in Xtrareport. I have to bind the datasource at runtime and also I have to assign the datasource to the labels programatically. Binding data at runtime is fine ,(and here's my question)I did not get from any examples to how should I bind the datasource to the labels and how to pass the parameter(UserId) from runtime and how to call the report from a webform. For example, I have a table called "User" with 3 fields: UserId, Username and Password. In the report designer I place 3 labels. Then I have a webform where the user is entering the userID and pulling some data and I have a print button on that webform when the user clicks the print button the data should be displayed on the report of UserId..

  • Printing an external file in its own printing routine

    I basically have an application that generates reports in a .html file, I use a .html file for the ease of making tables and formatting text. Now I would like to introduce a way of printing the reports from my program. Because I use a .html file, the formatting would not the correct if I was to print it directly from my application (as far as I know). For this reason, I would like to print it just like my web browser would have in order to keep the tabular data intact and the text formatting. Does anyone know a way to do this? Thank you.

  • Size Mismatch Between Swing Fonts and Printable Fonts in Java

    Hi All, I've got a panel displaying a JTextPane backed by a StyledDocument. When I print a string of text in, say Arial 16, the text it prints is of a different size than the Arial 16 Word prints. Is there some sort of flaw in the translation of Swing fonts to Windows system fonts or something of the sort that makes it difficult (or impossible) to print accurately? I can achieve an approximation by scaling down the size of my font before printing, but this never quite gets me the results I would like, as it's not possible in all cases to reproduce things like equivalent numbers of words on a line, etc. Has anybody run into this before?

Could someone explain to me what's the rationale here?     I need to take an array of three lines in a text file and sort them base on the first line in Java. I also need to manipulate this as well and then print to screen. I have a test file that is formatted like this: 10 Michael Jackson 12 Richard Woolsey I need to input this from a text file and then rearrange it based on the number associated with the name. At that point, I need to use a random number generator and assign a variable based on the random number to each name. Then I need to print to screen the variable I added and the name in a different format. Here is an example of the output: 12: Woolsey, Richard Variable assigned 10: Jackson, Michael Other variable assigned I highly appreciate any help. I ask because I do not really know how to input the three lines as one variable and then manipulate later on in the program. Thanks, Cory

  • 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get' error using SQLAlchemy

    I've been trying to map an object to a database using SQLAlchemy but have run into a snag. Version info if handy: [OS: Mac OSX 10.5.8 | Python: 2.6.4 | SQLAlchemy: 0.5.8] The class I'm going to map: class Student(object): def __init__(self, name, id): self.id = id self.name = name self.preferences = collections.defaultdict(set) self.allocated_project = None self.allocated_rank = 0 def __repr__(self): return str(self) def __str__(self): return "%s %s" %(self.id, self.name) Background: Now, I've got a function that reads in the necessary information from a text database into these objects. The function more or less works and I can easily access the information from the objects. Before the SQLAlchemy code runs, the function will read in the necessary info and store it into the Class. There is a dictionary called students which stores this as such: students = {} students[id] = Student(<all the info from the various "reader" functions>) Afterwards, there is an "allocation" algorithm that will allocate projects to student. It does that well enough. The allocated_project remains as None if a student is unsuccessful in getting a project. SQLAlchemy bit: So after all this happens, I'd like to map my object to a database table. Using the documentation, I've used the following code to only map certain bits.   • Printing PDFs Server-side using Acrobat Reader from ASP.NET

    Hi, I have been presented with a problem which requires me to print PDF files from a server as part of an ASP.NET web service. The problem is further complicated by the fact that the PDF files I have to print can ONLY be printed using Adobe Reader (they were created using Adobe LiveCycle and have some strange protection in them). This piece of code seems to do the trick in the Visual Studio development web server, but doesn't do anything when the site's running in IIS. I'm assuming this is probably some sort of permissions issue!? I know this is a FAR from ideal thing to be trying to do, but I haven't really got much choice! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!   • Reuse another ASP.NET session (set Session ID)

    My problem is that when I open web application from Outlook in a separate IE window, the ASP.NET session is lost. This is (as described in several places) because in-memory cookie is lost. So it goes like this: User works with ASP.NET web application in Outlook, and this stores some info in ASP.NET session User clicks Print to open new IE window with print-ready data The new window has different ASP.NET session ID and can't access old data. I think, maybe, if I pass ASP.NET session ID to new IE window, I can somehow "attach" to that session? Tell ASP.NET that this is the one that I need to be current?

If I remove the schema from the XML file and the validation from the PL file then it works fine. I am using the default namespace. If I change it to not use the default namespace (xmlns:lib="http://libs.domain.com" and prefix all items in the XML file with lib and change the XPath expressions to include the namespace prefix (/lib:library/lib:book) then it again works file. Why? and what am I missing?   • Best Practise for Writing a POS System

    Hi, I'm putting together a basic POS system in C# that needs to print to a receipt printer and open a cash drawer. Do I have to use the Microsoft Point of Service SDK? I've been playing around with printing to my Samsung printer using the Windows driver that came with it, and it seems to work great. I assume though that other printers may not come with Windows drivers and then I would be stuck? Or would I be able to simply use the Generic/Text Driver to print to any printer that supports it? For the cash drawer I would need to send codes directly to the COM port which is fine with me, if it saves me the hassle of helping clients setup OPOS drivers on there systems. Am I going down the wrong path here? Thanks, Gary

  • How can I flush the output of disp in Octave?

    I have a program in Octave that has a loop - running a function with various parameters, not something that I can turn into matrices. At the beginning of each iteration I print the current parameters using disp. The first times I ran it I had a brazillion warnings, and then I also got these prints. Now that I cleaned them up, I no longer see them. My guess is that they're stuck in a buffer, and I'll see them when the program ends or the buffer fills. Is there any way to force a flush of the print buffer so that I can see my prints?

It seems to me as if $r->spawn_proc_prog doesn't spawn a process. Any easy way to do this without iterating through the objects in the vhost delete?

    Im trying to get my label to print out "your score is ." All i can find online is how to print using printf: int score=2; printf("You scored %i", score); But this does not work when using the setText method. I have also tried labelAnswer.setText:("You scored %i", score); [labelAnswer setText:("You scored %i", score)]; But these do not work. I get an error: "request for member in something not a structure or union" Can anyone help?
