  • Why are all objects in this extension of usercontrol null at runtime?

    - by csciguy
All, I have a simple class. public class Container : UserControl { public bool IsClickable { get; set; } } I have a class that extends this class. public class ScrollingContainer : Container { public void Draw() { } public void Update() { } } I have a custom class, that then extends ScrollingContainer. public partial class MaskContainer : ScrollingContainer { public MaskContainer() { InitializeComponent(); } } XAML <local:ScrollingContainer x:Class="Test.Types.MaskContainer" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:GameObjects;assembly=GameObjects" mc:Ignorable="d" > </local:ScrollingContainer> In my mainpage.xaml, I have the following. <types:MaskContainer x:Name="maskContainer" Canvas.ZIndex="1" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Canvas x:Name="maskCanvas"> <Button x:Name="button1" Content="test button"/> </Canvas> </types:MaskContainer> Why, at runtime, are both maskCanvas and button1 null? maskContainer is not null. The inheritance should be straightforward here. Container inherits usercontrol. Scrollable container inherits container. Mask Container inherits scrollable container. Why am I losing the fucntionality of the original base class at this level? Is it incorrect to add the element (button1) to the maskcontainer inside of the main.xaml? My end goal is to create a container that is reusable, but inherits all properties/methods that I've specified throughout the chain. Any help is appreciated.

  • pattern matching in .Net consistent with IsolatedStorageFile.GetFileNames() pattern matching

    - by Mick N
Is the pattern matching logic used by this API exposed for reuse somewhere in the .Net Framework? Something of the form FilePatternMatch( string searchPattern, stringfileNameToTest ) is what I'm looking for. I'm implementing a temporary workaround for WP7 not filtering the results for this overload and I'd like the solution to both provide a consistent experience and avoid reinventing this functionality if it is exposed. If the behaviour is not exposed for reuse, a regular expression solution (like glob pattern matching in .NET) will suffice and would save me spending the time to test the fine details of what the behaviour should be. Perhaps one of the answers posted in the thread linked above is correct. Since I haven't confirmed the exact behaviour as yet, I wasn't able to determine this at a glance. Feel free to point me to one of those answers if you know it is behaviouraly an exact match to the API referenced in the question title. I could assume the pattern matching is consistent with how DOS handled * and ? in 8.3 file names (I'm familiar with behavioural nuances of that implementation), but it's reasonable to assume Microsoft has evolved pattern matching behaviour for file names in the decade+ since so I thought I would check before proceeding on that assumption.

  • How do I stream videos from web server in ExpressionMediaPlayer control?

    - by Nick
Hello. I would like to stream videos that reside at the webserver from within a ExpressionMediaPlayer control. The following results in a network error. I believe that the problem is with my Uri. I have the videos inside the 'ClentBin' folder. Can anyone tell me how this is done? private void videoList_SelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e) { var selectedVideo = (Video)videoList.SelectedItem; PlaylistItem item = new PlaylistItem(); item.MediaSource = new Uri(@"/ClientBin/" + selectedVideo.FilePath, UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute); item.IsAdaptiveStreaming = false; ep.Playlist.Items.Add(item); } Thanks!

  • Key Navigation Not Working With SL3 Treeview

    - by Chris
I have a treeview in SL3 that is bound to a hierarchical list. Something has changed with regards to being able to navigate through the list using the up and down arrow keys. At one point, during the development of this application, I could start at the root process in the tree view, press the Enter key, and the root process would expand, showing all children processes. Some of the child processes are parent nodes for other processes. So, that functionality would work fine. Then, if I would navigate to a child node that is a parent, and press Enter, that node would expand. From that point, if I would navigate to a child node of the parent node, and then press the Up arrow key, it should select whatever item is directly above it, in this case, the corresponding parent node, but won't. It's like you can't navigate, using the UP Arrow key, to a child's parent, if you have selected the child. You can navigate down, just not UP, if the next item above it is a folder/parent node. I have no clue as to how this happened, as this functionality used to work fine, and now it doesn't. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Chris

  • When to use MEF

    - by cmaduro
I tried Unity and MEF and plain old new. And I am a bit confused as to when exactly you need to use any of these "patterns". Why would I choose to use MEF or Unity if using new is simpler and satisfies my needs. MyObject a = new MyObject(); In other words, what needs justify the use of MEF or Unity?

  • solution on SP and EF & Ria Service

    - by KentZhou
As EF 4.0 released, more support to SQL server Stored procedure. Complex Type can be generated automatically for result dataset of SP. But complex type not support by Ria Service. When I try to use ria service combined with EF 4.0, I want to get dataset by SP. This result is not mapped to any entity/table. Some sulutions suggested by community are: 1. Create view to map sp result. (but for EF, if there is no ID or primary, can't be map to any entity) 2. Create Entity to map sp result.(for this, you even need to map SP for CRUD even though I don't need CUD on this sp result) Also above solution can't be automated. As Database objects maybe changed with the time, auto update edm will lost above solution. So what's the solution? I want to put data operation back to DB as possible, so that many changes can be done in DB and no need to rebuild .net assemblies(this cause redeploy).

  • Modify a ListBox's item from a button in it's template?

    - by Maciek
    In my Silv erlight 3 project, I'm using a ListBox to display results of a Get() operation form a WCF WebService. The ListBox's item template is the following : <ListBox x:Name="m_listview" ItemsSource="{Binding Users, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=Default}" Foreground="{StaticResource EnergyBlue}" Background="{StaticResource EnergyBackground}" HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch" VerticalContentAlignment="Center" Grid.ColumnSpan="3" Margin="0,0,0,2" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="False"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Grid MinWidth="536" MinHeight="10" d:DesignWidth="19.875" d:DesignHeight="20.75"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="0.2*"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="0.2*"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="0.2*"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="0.2*"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="0.2*"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <TextBox Text="{Binding Path=UserName, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=Default}" Grid.Column="0" Foreground="{StaticResource EnergyWhite}" Margin="2" Background="{StaticResource EnergyBackground}" BorderBrush="{StaticResource EnergyBlue}" SelectionBackground="{StaticResource EnergyBlue}" SelectionForeground="{StaticResource EnergyWhite}" MinWidth="100"/> <PasswordBox Password="{Binding Path=UserPass, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=Default}" Grid.Column="1" Foreground="{StaticResource EnergyWhite}" Margin="2" Background="{StaticResource EnergyBackground}" BorderBrush="{StaticResource EnergyBlue}" SelectionBackground="{StaticResource EnergyBlue}" SelectionForeground="{StaticResource EnergyWhite}" MinWidth="100"/> <TextBox Text="{Binding Path=UserTypeId, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=Default}" Grid.Column="2" Foreground="{StaticResource EnergyWhite}" Margin="2" Background="{StaticResource EnergyBackground}" BorderBrush="{StaticResource EnergyBlue}" SelectionBackground="{StaticResource EnergyBlue}" SelectionForeground="{StaticResource EnergyWhite}" MinWidth="100"/> <Button Style="{StaticResource EnergyGlassButton}" Grid.Column="3" MinWidth="10" MinHeight="10" Content="Update" Click="OnUpdateUser"/> <Button Style="{StaticResource EnergyGlassButton}" Grid.Column="4" MinWidth="10" MinHeight="10" Content="Remove" Click="OnRemoveUser"/> </Grid> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> The template contains 2 buttons. When I click either of them, I'd like to obtain a reference to the exact data-item under the listboxitem. How do I do that? I've tried : User target_user = m_listview.SelectedItem as User; but it turned out that the listview item wasn't selected. Can it be done without actually selecting the listview item? For instance, just click on the "remove" button and have the row disappear? Best regards

  • Windows Phone - OnNavigatingFrom - problem

    - by Martin Anderson
I believe this is just a problem for me, due to my lack of programming ability. I am currently exploring transitions between page navigation with Windows Phone apps. I was originally using storyboards, and completed event handlers to have my pages animate on and off screen. These leads to the a problem when you want to navigate to many pages from one page, using the same transition. So I have started looking at OnNavigatedTo, and OnNavigatingFrom events and while it is working nicely for OnNavigatedTo, the later just wont work. It seems the Microsoft.Phone.Navigation assembly does not contain OnNavigatingFrom, and referencing System.Windows.Navigation, compiles ok, but I cant get pages to animate off upon navigation. I have a button on my Page2, which I want to go back to my MainPage (after I over-rided the back key with a message box for testing). I have transitions made on the page, and I have this as the event handler code... private void btnP2_BackToP1Clicked(object sender, System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs e) { NavigationService.Navigate(new Uri("/MainPage.xaml", UriKind.Relative)); } With this code for the OnNavigatedTo and OnNavigatingFrom events... protected override void OnNavigatedTo(PhoneNavigationEventArgs e) { PageTransition_In.Begin(); } // // protected override void OnNavigatingFrom(NavigatingCancelEventArgs e) { PageTransition_Out.Begin(); base.OnNavigatingFrom(e); } I have the feeling that OnNavigatingFrom may not(yet) be supported for Windows Phone Apps. OnNavigatedFrom is part of Microsoft.Phone.Navigation, but it only performs actions once the page is no longer active, which is too late to perform any animation effects.

  • Customize a WCF RIA Services Endpoint

    - by Andrew Garrison
    Is it possible to customize the parameters of a WCF RIA Services endpoint? Specifically, I would like to create a custom binding for the endpoint and increase the maxReceivedMessageSize to allow sending the contents of a file that is a few megabytes in size. I've tried meddling in the web.config, but I'm getting the following error: [InvalidOperationException]: The contract name MyNamespace.MyService could not be found in the list of contracts implemented by the service MyNamespace.MyService web.config <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <customBinding> <binding name="CustomBinaryHttpBinding"> <binaryMessageEncoding /> <httpTransport maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" maxBufferSize="2147483647" /> </binding> </customBinding> </bindings> <services> <service name="MyNamespace.MyService"> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="MyNamespace.MyService" /> <endpoint address="/binary" binding="customBinding" bindingConfiguration="CustomBinaryHttpBinding" contract="MyNamespace.MyService" /> </service> </services> <serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true" multipleSiteBindingsEnabled="true" /> </system.serviceModel>

  • Performance Hosting under WAS vs Host as Service?

    - by ashraf
I have some performance issue when I host WCF service (net.tcp) under WAS (IIS 7). It is working fine when I host service under console application. The issue is WCF Become Slow After Being Idle For 15 Seconds and a solution. After applying Wenlong Dong workaround delay is gone, but it does not work in WAS (IIS 7). I tried to put "ThreadPoolTimeoutWorkaround.DoWorkaround()" in static AppInitialize() as suggested here, still no luck. Thanks

  • Two way binding settings problem.

    - by Jamie
Hi, I am having a problem using two way binding with a listpicker. I am able to set the value using c# but not in the SelectedItem=".." in xaml. The binding is returning the correct value (and is a value in the listpicker) as i have texted it by assigning the text to a textblock. When the page loads, the binding used on the listpicker causes a System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException The code i am using to set it is: // Update a setting value. If the setting does not exist, add the setting. public bool AddOrUpdateValue(string key, Object value) { bool valueChanged = false; try { // If new value is different, set the new value if (settingsStorage[key] != value) { settingsStorage[key] = value; valueChanged = true; } } catch (KeyNotFoundException) { settingsStorage.Add(key, value); valueChanged = true; } catch (ArgumentException) { settingsStorage.Add(key, value); valueChanged = true; } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine("Exception occured whilst using IsolatedStorageSettings: " + e.ToString()); } return valueChanged; } // Get the current value of the setting, if not found, set the setting to default value. public valueType GetValueOrDefault<valueType>(string key, valueType defaultValue) { valueType value; try { value = (valueType)settingsStorage[key]; } catch (KeyNotFoundException) { value = defaultValue; } catch (ArgumentException) { value = defaultValue; } return value; } public string WeekBeginsSetting { get { return GetValueOrDefault<string>(WeekBeginsSettingKeyName, WeekBeginsSettingDefault); } set { AddOrUpdateValue(WeekBeginsSettingKeyName, value); Save(); } } And in the xaml: <toolkit:ListPicker x:Name="WeekStartDay" Header="Week begins on" SelectedItem="{Binding Source={StaticResource AppSettings}, Path=WeekBeginsSetting, Mode=TwoWay}"> <sys:String>monday</sys:String> <sys:String>sunday</sys:String> </toolkit:ListPicker> The StaticResource AppSettings is a resource from a seperate .cs file. <phone:PhoneApplicationPage.Resources> <local:ApplicationSettings x:Key="AppSettings"></local:ApplicationSettings> </phone:PhoneApplicationPage.Resources> Thanks in advance

  • How to play Sound and Animations in MVVM

    - by user275561
I have read alot of blogs about the best way to play sound/Animation but if possible I would like to see a simplified example on how this is done so I understand better. So to my understanding in MVVM The View--Sound and Animation The ViewModel--If some value is true, i would like to play the Sound and Animation on the view. Now How would I go about doing this. I was told to use interfaces like ISoundService and IAnimationService. Implement in the View and then do what? If possible, a workable bare bone example will help alot.

  • DependencyProperty binding not happening on initial load

    - by Ari Roth
    I'm trying to do something simple -- make a DependencyProperty and then bind to it. However, the getter doesn't appear to fire when I start up the app. (I'm guessing the solution will make me smack my head and go "Doh!", but still. :) ) Any ideas? Code-behind code: public static readonly DependencyProperty PriorityProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("Priority", typeof (Priority), typeof (PriorityControl), null); public Priority Priority { get { return (Priority)GetValue(PriorityProperty); } set { SetValue(PriorityProperty, value); } } Control XAML: <ListBox Background="Transparent" BorderThickness="0" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Priorities}" Name="PriorityList" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=Priority, Mode=TwoWay}"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Grid Height="16" Width="16"> <Border BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="2" CornerRadius="3" Visibility="{Binding RelativeSource= {RelativeSource Mode=FindAncestor, AncestorType=ListBoxItem}, Path=IsSelected, Converter={StaticResource boolToVisibilityConverter}}" /> <Border CornerRadius="3" Height="12" Width="12"> <Border.Background> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=FindAncestor, AncestorType=ListBoxItem}, Path=Content, Converter={StaticResource priorityToColorConverter}}" /> </Border.Background> </Border> </Grid> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> <ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ListBox.ItemsPanel> </ListBox> Binding statement: <UI:PriorityControl Grid.Column="8" Priority="{Binding Path=Priority}" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> Some other notes: Binding is in a UserControl UserControl contains the PriorityControl PriorityControl contains the DependencyProperty I've checked that the data the UserControl is getting the appropriate data -- every other binding works. If I change the selection on the PriorityControl via the mouse, everything fires as appropriate. It's just that initial setting of the value that isn't working. Priority is an enum.

  • MVVM Light - master / child views and dependency properties

    - by Carl Dickinson
I'm getting an odd problem when implementing a master / child view and custom dependency properties. Within my master view I'm binding the view model declaratively in the XAML as follows: DataContext="{Binding MainViewModelProperty, Source={StaticResource Locator}}" and my MainViewModel is exposing an observable collection which I'm binding to an ItemsControl as follows: <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Lists}" Height="490" Canvas.Top="10" Width="70"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Canvas> <local:TaskListControl Canvas.Left="{Binding ListLeft}" Canvas.Top="{Binding ListTop}" Width="{Binding ListWidth}" Height="{Binding ListHeight}" ListDetails="{Binding}"/> </Canvas> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> TaskListControl in turn declares and bind to it's ViewModel and I've also defined a dependency property for the ListDetails property. The ListDetails property is not being set and if I remove the declarative reference to it's viewmodel the dependency property's callback does get fired. Is there a conflict with declaratively binding to viewmodels and definig dependency properties? I really like MVVM Light's blendability and want to perserve with this problem so any help would be apprectiated. If you'd like to receive the source for my project then please ask

  • Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman

    - by cmaduro
    Does the Elliptic curve diffie hellman calculation look any different from the standard one defined here: /* * The basic Diffie-Hellman Key Agreement Equation * * The client initiates * A = g^a mod p * * Sends (g p A) to the server * * The server calculates B * B = g^b mod p * * Sends B back to client * * The client calculates K * K = B^a mod p * * The server calucaltes K * K = A^b mod p * */ Or is it just a specific way of selecting g, a, p and b? How are g,a,p and b selected anyway?

  • Best way for programmers to edit XAML

    - by JessicaB
I was wondering how programmers chose to edit XAML. Most of the programmers I speak to seem to edit the raw XML, but that seems nuts to me since it is such a natural thing for a more visual editor (of course you often have to get down to the raw code ultimately, but isn't there a better way to lay out a grid, or edit a template, or add non c# triggers or manage commands? The one that really set me off was editing a menu -- Visual Studio 1.0 had a better menu editor for C++ than the raw XAML editing experience.) When I edit .aspx files I use a visual editor much of the time, and then for the raw stuff I get into the html code. I am aware of Expression Blend, but that seems far more focused on artistic types and GUI experts rather than programmers. Does anyone have recommendations for a better editor for XAML than VS? Especially so since VS seems to have real nasty problems with XAML editing too, like bugginess and poor performance? Appreciate your helping this XAML newbie.

  • Templated Control databinding to custom properties

    - by Dan Wray
Is there some trick that I'm missing here? I've created a templated control, very simple. One single property on it, and I'd like to databind from the (viewmodel/datacontext of the) page in which it's hosted to a custom property on the control. The property will eventually be a vector type object, defining the position of the control, however in an attempt to get this to work I've tried reducing it to a basic string property. Each time I'm faced with "Set property 'SimpleGame.Classes.Sprite.Property' threw an exception.". I can't even catch the exception in a debug session, the set property code is not being executed. Do I need to use a dependency / attached property or something? I wouldn't have thought so...

  • Best pattern to load enumerated values from DAL using WCF RIA Services

    - by Dale Halliwell
I would like to be able to load several RIA entitysets in a single call without chaining/nesting several small LoadOperations together so that they load sequentially. I have several pages that have a number of comboboxes on them. These comboboxes are populated with static values from a database (for example status values). Right now I preload these values in my VM by one method that strings together a series of LoadOperations for each type that I want to load. For example: public void LoadEnums() { context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues1Query()).Completed += (s, e) => { this.StatusValues1 = context.StatusValues1; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues2()).Completed += (s1, e1) => { this.StatusValues2 = context.StatusValues2; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues3Query()).Completed += (s2, e2) => { this.StatusValues3 = context.StatusValues3; (....and so on) }; }; }; }; While this works fine, it seems a bit nasty. Also, I would like to know when the last loadoperation completes so that I can load whatever entity I want to work on after this, so that these enumerated values resolve properly in form elements like comboboxes and listboxes. (I think) I can't do this easily above without creating a delegate and calling that on the completion of the last loadoperation. So my question is: does anyone out there know a better pattern to use, ideally where I can load all my static entitysets in a single LoadOperation?

  • SL4 - Binding DataGridTextColumn to a property

    - by Brent
I have a DataGrid. In the DataGrid's AutoGeneratingColumn event I have some code that looks like this: if (e.Property.Name.Contains("MetaData")) { var descCol = new DataGridTextColumn(e.Property); var bnd = new Binding("Description"); bnd.Mode = BindingMode.TwoWay; descCol.Binding = bnd; e.Column = descCol; e.Column.Header = "Description"; return; } The column binds to a type MetaData which has a string property named Description that I would like displayed in my DataGrid. So far I've been unable to get the value of the Description property to display in my DataGrid. I think the path I am passing into the Binding constructor might be incorrect. I've tried "MetaData.Description" as well and it doesn't work either. Can anyone help me properly set up the binding on my DataGridTextColumn?
