I want to send(using post method) the selected categories(category[]) via mootools ajax so that if I dump the $_POST variable in the server I will get something like: array(1) { [category]=> array(2) { [0]=> string(4) "Math" [1]=> string(7) "History" } } What should be the javascript(mootools) code for it? Structuring the UI code of a single-page EXTjs Web app using Rails?

I’m in the process of creating a large single-page web-app using ext-js for the UI components with Rails on the backend. I’ve come to good solutions for transferring data using Whorm gem and Rails support of RESTful Resources. What I haven’t come to a conclusion on is how to structure the UI and business logic aspects of the application. I’ve had a look at a few options, including Netzke but haven’t seen anything that I really think fits my needs. How should a web-application that uses ext-js components, layouts, and controls in the browser and Rails on the server best implement UI component re-use, good organization, and maintainability while maintaining a flexible layout design. Specifically I’m looking for best-practice suggestions for structuring the code that creates and configures UI components (many UI config options will be based on user data) Should EXT classes be extended in static JS for often re-used customizations and then instantiated with various configuration options by generated JS within html partials? Should partials create javascript blocks that instantiate EXT components? Should partials call helpers that return ruby hashes for EXT component config which is then dumped to Json? Something else entirely? There are many options and I'd love to hear from people who've been down this road and found some methodology that worked for them.

Google App Engine - How to implement the activity stream in a social network

I want some ideas on the best practice to implement an activity stream for a social network im building in app engine (PYTHON) I first want to keep a log for all activities of each user - so that we have a history. i.e. someone became a friend, added a picture, changed their address etc. This way we have a users history available should we need it. Also mean we can remove friendship joins, change user data but have a historical log. I also want to stream a users activity to their friends. for this only the last X activities need to be kept - that is in the scenario that messages are sent to friends when an activity occurs. Its pretty straight forward designing a history log - ie: when, what, where. The complication comes as to how we notify friends of a user as to their activity. In our app friendships are not mutual - ie they are based on the twitter following model. Some accounts could have thousands of followers. What is the best approach to model this. using a many to many join table and doing a costly query - using a feed class that fired a copy of the activity to all the subscribers - maybe into mcache? As their maybe a need to fire thousands of messages i would imagine a cron job would need to be used. Any help ideas thoughts on this Thx

jquery touch punch - draggable on ipad

i am starting to work with the jquery touch punch extensions in order to allow draggability on ipad, but i am getting tripped up right away. probably something terribly dumb on my part. the draggable example from the developer works fine on my ipad: http://furf.com/exp/touch-punch/draggable.html but not for me: http://danshuta.com/touchpunch/ this works fine in my desktop browser, but on the ipad it just focuses on the block and scrolls the entire page as i drag, as if it were just an image or other normal embedded object. as this is what happens normally with jquery/ui on ipad, this makes me think it is not loading or otherwise ignoring the "punch" code from my site (though if i host the jquery files on my site via the same path, those load and function fine in desktop browser). here's the entire code, very basic: <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> <title>Touchpunchtest</title> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.8.17/jquery-ui.min.js"></script> <script src="js/jquery.ui.touch-punch.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="draggybox" onclick="void(0)" style="width: 150px; height: 150px; background: green;"></div> <script>$('#draggybox').draggable();</script> </body> </html> what am i missing?!

Is there anything on a local network or desktop environment that could effect JScript execution?

I know this sounds odd. The JS on my project functions perfectly, except when the web site is accessed using computers at one specific company. To make things even more difficult, the JS fails only about 50% of the time when run from that company. The JS failure occurs with FireFox, Chrome, and IE. I have tested this myself using FF and Chrome on a thumb drive. The browsers on my thumb always display my project site perfectly, except when run from a computer on said company's network where they fail at the same rate as the installed browsers. My JS is using jQuery and making some Ajax calls. The Ajax calls are where the failure is occurring. To diagnose the problem I created a logging function for my Ajax calls and recorded success and failure. Over a one month period, there were only a handful of failures (about 1%) from all access points other than this company. Oddly enough, the Ajax calls in the logging function are not failing. There is nothing exotic there - Just Win XP SP3. I have never noticed any other unusual behavior from their network. The company is a division of a mega ISP and is on their corporate network. Any other suggestions for troubleshooting would be welcome.

jquery mobile - loading content into a div

Jquery Mobile works by “hijacking” a page and loading content and injecting it into the page. It seems that this creates a problem when i try to inject other content into the page. I have my index.html and then a page2.html file. I'm setting up jquery mobile in the normal fashion wrapping the contents of each page in a div like so: <div id="container" data-role="page"> // my content <a href="page2.html">go to page 2</a> </div> when the user taps go to page 2, it does the nice slide effect. The url in the location bar looks like this: index.html#page2.html jquery mobile inject the content of the page using the anchors and applies the transition. nice so everthing works great up to the next part. Tiny MCE (jquery plugin version) not showing toolbar in IE (works fine in other browsers)

I had an implementation working well but for some reason IE decided it was tired of playing nice. I have an advanced implementation of TinyMCE (the jquery plugin version - see http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/examples/example_23.php for details). It still works great in all browsers but IE. In IE it shows the drop-down options for Format, Font family, and Font size, but only as text.. not as a drop down normally looks. All other buttons on the toolbar are missing. (I've tried IE8 and IE8 Compatibility Mode) I get a javascript error: Syntax error Line 36 Char 1. Unfortunately the javascript is being loaded dynamically so this doesn't help me. For example: I'd like to get all the DTOs (ClassThree) of ClassOne whose status is now 1, but earlier in their history it has been 2 and I'd like to have the latest ClassTwo object which has 2 as newStatus. SELECT new ClassThree(c1.id, c1.status, c2) FROM ClassOne c1 LEFT JOIN c1.classtwos c2 (...) and (...) is where I don't know what to do, I'm not even sure if it's a join / join fetch Looked around and tried quite a lot already, but no clue. IIS6 throws error for jquery.

Hi, on my master page, I have referenced jquery file. I am doing simple hover function. When mouse hover, I change the css and when hover out, change the css back to originial. Nothing fancy. but my page throws jquery error when I run in IIS6 on server 2003. When I run on IIS5.1 on local xp machine, it works perfectly fine. Any idea? I access both pages from my machine so IE settings is not the problem. Initializing own plugins

I've written a few jquery plugins for my client. I want to write a function which would initialize each plugin which have been loaded. Plugin1 should be attached to all links with class name 'ajax' and plugin2 to all divs with class name 'test2': $('document').ready(function(){ $('a.ajax').plugin1(); $('div.test2').plugin2(); } I know that I can use jQuery().pluginName to check if a plugin exists. But I want to have a leaner way. Can all loaded plugins register a initialize function in an array or something like that which I in document.ready can iterate through and invoke? like: //in plugin1.js myCustomPlugins['plugin1'] = function() { $('a.ajax').plugin1(); }; // and in the initializer script: myCustomPlugins.each(function() { this(); }; Guess it all boiled down to three questions: How do I use a jquery "global" array? Using AJAX in Rails: How do I change a button as soon as it's clicked?

Hey! I'm teaching myself Ruby, and have been stuck on this for a couple days: I'm currently using MooTools-1.3-compat and Rails 3. I'd like to replace one button (called "Follow") with another (called "Unfollow") as soon as someone clicks on it. I'm using :remote = true and have a file ending in .js.erb that's being called...I just need help figuring out what goes in this .js file The "Follow" button is in a div with id="follow_form", but there are many buttons on the page, and they all have an id = "follow_form"...i.e. $("follow_form").set(...) replaces the first element and that's not correct. I need help replacing the button that made the call. I looked at this tutorial, but the line below doesn't work for me. Could it be because I'm using MooTools instead of Prototype? $("follow_form").update("<%= escape_javascript(render('users/unfollow')) %") ps. jQuery load default content into div

Hi, ive searched around but couldnt really find anything to help. I use this code as a main ajax call for all content on my site (All content loaded dynamically into a div using this script): jQuery(document).ready(function($) { function load(num) { $('#pageContent').html('<img src="imgs/ajax-loader.gif">') $('#pageContent').load(num +".html"); } $.history.init(function(url) { load(url == "" ? "1" : url); }); $('#bbon a').live('click', function(e) { var url = $(this).attr('href'); URLDecoder.decode(location,"UTF-8"); url = url.replace(/^.*#/, ''); $.history.load(url); return false; }); }); which works great. its fantastic. however, i am unable to get default content displayed in the <div> on page load.. so a visitor would have to select a menu item before any content shows. Any ideas on how i could do this? At the minute all i see is my loading animation.. I use jQuery with the History plugin.
