styleWithCSS for IE

I'm building a custom RTE that converts user input to a homebrewn markup, now idiot that I am I did this using an iframe with designMode = "On" and got it to work in firefox using styleWithCSS = false so that I could easily convert the <b> (yes... b :( ) into my markup which would then output the proper code instead of me having to read from <span style="... now my problem is, I cant seem to find something that looks or acts like styleWithCSS = false for IE, Chrome or Opera, any suggestions are welcome.

JQuery UI sortable is slow in IE8, but works good in IE7 and IE8 compatible mode

JQuery UI sortable (including demos) are slow in all IE8 I can test, but runs smoothly in IE7 and IE8 compatible mode. The more complex is a markup on the page, the more IE8 is slowing down (that's I can understand, the DOM tree became more complex). I'm using JQuery 1.3.2 and JQuery UI 1.7.2 (tested with 1.7.3 -- the same story). I've found a lot of similar reports (for the new JQuery UI 1.8.x with JQuery 1.4 too), but no answers. May be there is a some solution (EXCEPT turning IE8 into IE7 compatibility mode by metatag or header). Thanks in advance!

Rails PDF Generation with Prawn in IE7

I'm using Prawn and Prawnto to generate a PDF in a Ruby on Rails app (Rails version 2.2.2) which works great and generates PDFs happily and sends them to the user to download in Firefox. The problem is in IE7. I have a route set up like so: map.invoice_pdf '/invoices.pdf', :controller => 'invoices', :action => 'index', :format => 'pdf' Which I then have a link like so to call: invoice_pdf_path(:year => params[:year], :month => params[:month], :unpaid_only => params[:unpaid_only]) And the following in my controller: def index params[:year] = default params[:year] params[:month] = default params[:month] params[:page] ||= 1 @invoices = Arobl.find_invoices_for_customer(current_customer.strCustomerID, params) respond_to do |format| format.html{ render :action => 'index' } format.pdf{ prawnto :inline => false, :filename => "#{current_customer.strCustomerID}_invoice.pdf" end In FF this works as expected, when the link is clicked the show action is invoked with a format of .pdf, and responds with the correctly named PDF. When it's hit with IE7 it says that the file or website could not be found, and references "invoices.pdf" instead of the expected customer_id_invoice.pdf filename. Any idea what could be causing this behaviour? Thanks!

[C#] A problem of downloading webpage's HTML source.

I use System.Net.WebClient.DownloadString(url) to get the HTML source of http://kqxs.vn but what I recieved is a caution text from the web server which says in Vietnamese as: "Xin loi. Chung toi khong the dap ung yeu cau truy cap cua ban... Vui long lien he : [email protected]. Chao ban" which is translated in English as "Sorry. We cannot response to your request... Please contact... Good bye." This is strange because when I use a WebControl to get the HTML ( by calling .Navigate(url) and then .DocumentText), I receive the different HTML codes - which in turn is exactly what I see when open the website by Firefox & view the source code from Firefox. I read DownloadData() is downloading source that is completely wrong. Source view in Firefox different than that downloaded. - Stack Overflow and found the answer to my symptom. But I don't know how to set the User-Agent. Please help.

IE8 v8 not changing class for a DOM element despite JS function changing the element attribute

I have an on-screen keyboard in order to provide a safer input for passwords. IE 6, 7; Opera 10; GChrome; FF 3, 3.5 and 3.6; Safari 4,... but in IE8 v8 (strict mode) the class is not changed! I mean, debuggin' with the IE8 tools allows one to see that the attribute className is there and it changes... but the user does not see the letters changing from uppercase to lowercase, to uppercase again. I just don't know how to handle this... I had complains about the client using IE6... now they updated their stuff and this shows up. Any help will be reaaaaly helpful!

Configure Tomcat to send web pages compatible to IE 7 or 6

I have got an application that is not compatible to work using IE8 browser. I am looking for a way to to configure Tomcat on which this application run, so the pages could be read by IE8 and treated as if they are IE7 or IE6 By googling so far I found a possible suggestion which say to add to the http response the header: X-UA-Compatible: IE=EmulateIE7 here that tell IE8 to be like IE7. The problem is that this way requires adding a filter that should be added on application level. I'd like to know if any of you is familiar with a more generic way that Tomcat enables to send its http content to be IE7 (or IE6) compatible ?

why does Integrated Windows Authentication fail when clients access off the network

My background is not with web applications so this problem is hard for me to explain easily. First I'll try to describe the setup. Client setup:-Only browser that is effected is IE 6-8 (Firefox, chrome, opera, and safari all work fine) -A user will try to access our web application from a company laptop that is not connected to our network. -This machine will be a member of our workgroup and have the company DNS listed as a trusted intranet site. (to which the application in question would be a member) -The security logon mode is set to Automatic Logon only in intranet zone only, and IWA authentication is enabled on the clients browser.Server setup:-Windows server 2003 fp2-The application will first redirect to an Authorization asp page which has anonymous access disabled and IWA enabled in IIS.what should happen is that, since the client is not currently on the network, when this page is called it should prompt the user for network credentials. But with IE, instead of prompting, the user gets a page cannot be displayed error because the IIS manager is denying access to the asp page. If the company DNS is removed from the trusted intranet site list then it prompts correctly but disables single sign on the next time that computer is connected to the network or vpn. My assumption is that since IE uses IWA and the site is listed as an internal site, when no network is found IE just sends nulls to the server attempting to authenticate which is swiftly punted back. Other browsers do not have security zones so when network credentials are not present the server prompts for them. Is there a way to get around this so that our clients can keep the company DNS in the intranet zone but still have the server prompt for credentials when not on the network? Any attempt to allow for anonymous access on the asp page, as far as I know, will cause AUTH_USER to return null and again break SSO. I realize this is slightly rambling so I will do my best to clarify and questions you guys might have. Thanks in advance.

Jquery Smart Wizard freezing up

I'm using IE 8 and the jquery smart wizard version 3.2.0. I've noticed when enclose the smart wizard within an additional <div> tag (with the intent of displaying the wizard within a jquery dialog popup), the wizard will not advance steps when a function is specified for the onLeaveStep event. jQuery 1.4 Dynamically created images aspect ratio incorrect in IE8 and max-width

After upgrading to jQuery 1.4, when I try to add an image to a page dynamically using jQuery 1.4 in IE8, the image will lose the correct aspect ratio. This appears to affect only IE8 (IE7 and Firefox work fine) with jQuery 1.4 (1.3.2 works fine). How to solve/hack fading semi-transparent PNG bug in IE8?

As you know, IE6 has bug that can't display semi-transparent PNG file without using non-standard style like filter. In IE7, this problem is fixed. But It still has some bug about PNG file. It can't correctly display fading semi-transparent PNG file. You can clearly see it when you use show/hide function in jQuery with semi-transparent PNG file. The background of image is displayed with non-transparent black color. Do you have any idea for solve this question by using jQuery. Update Let's see my testing As you see, IE8 always incorrectly displays PNG-24 image. Moreover, IE8 still correctly display PNG-8 image when I fade(jQuery.fadeOut function) it only. Colorbox not working in IE

on This page in the center is a button that says "request price". I am using Colorbox so that when you click it, there is a lightbox-type popup of a Flash app. This works fine in FF and Chrome. However in IE it is just taking you directly to the page containing the flash rather then making it a popup. Does anyone have a clue why?

fullcalendar javascript issue - its not showing the events in IE?

On my team website: http://www.berzerkers.org, head over to the Schedule. The calendar is supposed to have a few events listed - it works fine in Firefox, Chrome and Safari - but not in IE...what is the issue? I don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

IE 6 & 7 render correctly, and I can solve the IE8 problem by triggering compatibility mode, but I'd rather not do that. Does anyone have any experience with this? jQuery/CSS height issues in IE/Chrome

Hello again, I am back with more problems on my jQuery animated splash / website. You can see the splash which is working in most browsers at voidsync.com/test. The problems I am encountering with IE are the html, body, or #CONTAINER not adjusting to longer content such as in the Services or About pages - you will see the footer does not properly move to the bottom. Refreshing the browser after loading or completing the splash, the pages height adjusts properly to fit the content. Also this works in IE8 with JS disabled, so I know the problem is in there. (except in IE7 or IE8 compatibility mode, where the footer does not move down, period). I can post code here if needed, but im not sure if that is necessary or possible as you may need to see all of the source code to get the right idea. Bonus question The Hosting page has similar problems in Chrome, where the content height does not appear to resize properly on that one page, or the footer becomes overlapped which may be due to the styling used on table elements. Filtering a dropdown in Angular IE11 issue

I have a requirement for a select html element that can be duplicated multiple times on a page. The options for these select elements all come from a master list. All of the select elements can only show all of the items in the master list that have not been selected in any of the other select elements unless they just were duplicated. So I wrote a custom filter to do this in Angular and it seems to work just fine provided you are not using IE11. In IE when you select a new item from a duplicated select element, it seems to select the option after the one you selected even though the model still has the correct one set. I realize this sounds convoluted, so I created a jFiddle example. Using IE 11 try these steps: Select Bender Click the duplicate link Select Fry Notice that the one that is selected is Leela but the model still has Fry (id:2) as the one selected Now if you do the same thing in Chrome everything works as expected. Can anyone tell me how I might get around this or what I might be doing wrong? IE9 Acid 3 test?

Does anybody know if Microsoft is planning on having IE9 pass with 100/100 on acid 3? The current version of IE9 gets a 68/100 on the test (can be viewed here, main site here). What did IE8 pass with? What about IE7? How does it compare to other modern browsers such as Safari, Firefox, and Chrome? Please submit useful answers, not opinions on how bad IE is, I don't like it either. Thanks a bunch!

jQuery Roundabout IE images pixellated

Hi at http://lunatestsite.co.uk my jQuery roundabout near the bottom of the homepage is problematic in IE7 and 8 - book cover images blurred/pixellated. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1985303/ie-image-display-problems/2355921#2355921 suggests something to do with em sizing in IE being the root of it but I don't really understand the conclusion reached there. I don't think opacity is an issue in this. Any help gratefully appreciated, this is more or less last on more checklist for this site! Thanks Edit: fixed by resetting to font-size: 1em before the height and width em declarations for the roundable-movable-item and roundabout-movable-item img. Now working in IE7 and 8.

CSS UL removing indent in IE

See: Page I am having problems with IE, In FF and Chrome the navigation at the top displays fine. However in IE8 (with or without compatibility) the UL seems to indent from the left hand side, not each li just the whole li; despite declaring text-align:center; width:600px; margin:auto; padding-left:0;. The HTML5 doctype is not triggering standards mode in IE8

i work for a company where all our sites currently use the XHTML 1.0 transitional doctype (yes i know it is very old school). I want to change them all to use the HTML5 doctype seeing as it is backwards compatible. One of the reasons why i want to make the switch is because in IE8 if someone has the developer tools installed then the old XHTML doctype switches the browser into compatibility mode and renders the page as IE7. From reading up on it i was led to believe that the HTML5 doctype will set any page to render in standards mode, but this is not happening when i test it on our staging server it still flips into IE7 rendering mode. The weird thing is if i save the page with HTML5 doctype locally and open it, it is rendering in IE8 standards mode. There must be something else causing it to drop into compatibility IE7 rendering. Any ideas what this could be? Why Do Browsers Leak Memory?

A colleague and I were speaking about browsers (using browser control in a project), and it appears as plain as day that all browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE, Opera) display the same characteristic or side-effect from their usage and that being 'Leaking Memory'. Can someone explain why that is the case? Surely as with any form of code, there should be proper garbage collection? PS. I've read about some defensive patterns on why this can happen from a developer's perspective. I am aware of an article Crockford wrote on IE; but why is the problem symptomatic of every browser?
