    I've just noticed that most of hpricot code is written in java... I heard that JRuby performed a lot better than native ruby when processing regular expression. Is maybe the java classes just activated if JRuby or Java is installed and the ruby used if these are not found? It's something puzzling indeed. Thanks

    I need a regex expert to help out on this one. Examples I've found on here and the net I cant seem to get right. I'm using PHP and I have the following regex expression /([^a-zA-Z0-9])GC([A-Z0-9]+)/ This matches items like GCABCD GC123A, etc. What i need to do is EXCLUDE GCSTATS from this. So basically I want it to work just as it has, except, ignore GCSTATS in the regex.

    I need to use VBA to determine the number of arguments passed to an Excel formula. For instance, suppose a cell contains the formula =MyFunc($A$1, "xyz", SUM(1,2,COUNT(C1:C12)), IF(B12,1,0)). Then the counter function should return 4. Does VBA contain any built-in functions for this, or does someone have an example of a regular expression that could calculate this?

    Hi, I'm working on a regular expression that will only return true when a date string is in a format something like 'ddd, dd mmm yy'. Valid matches would be values like "Sun, 20 Jun 10" or "Mon, 21 Jun 10" but not "Sunday, 20 Jun 10" or "20 Jun 10". This will be used with mb_ereg in PHP.     Hi, I'm a relative novice to regular expressions (although I've used them many times successfully). I want to find all links in a document that do not end in ".html" The regular expression I came up with is: href=\"([^"]*)(?<!html)\" In Notepad++, my editor, href=\"([^"]*)\" finds all the links (both those that end in "html" and those that do not). Why doesn't negative lookbehind work? I've also tried lookahead: href=\"[^"]*(?!html\") but that didn't work either. Can anybody help? Cheers, grovel

    Hi there, Is there a way to retrieve tables, including alias tables, and columns, including alias columns, from an Apache Torque Criteria object reliably? I understand that there is methods like: getSelectedColumns, getAsColumns(), getJoins(), etc., but for examples, getJoins() will just return a list of joined tables strings in free text, where one has to use regular expression to extract the needed joined table information out of it.   • Is there a compelling reason to use quantifiers in Perl regular expressions instead of just repeatin

    I was performing a code review for a colleague and he had a regular expression that looked like this: if ($value =~ /^\d\d\d\d$/) { #do stuff } I told him he should change it to: if ($value =~ /^\d{4}$/) { #do stuff } To which he replied that he preferred the first for readability (I find the second more readable, but that's a religious debate I'll save for another day). My question: is there an actual benefit to one over the other?

    I am new to programming PHP and am trying to validate a field in a form. The field if for a RAL color code and so would look something like : RAL 1001. so the letters RAL and then 4 numbers. Can someone help me set them into a regular expression to validate them. i have tried this with no success: $string_exp = "/^[RAL][0-9 .-]+$/i"; What can I say but sorry for being a complete NOOB at PHP.
