  • Rails find all with association

    - by aaronrussell
I have what I think is a very simple problem (famous last words)... I have a Category model that has_and_belongs_to_many Events. I want to construct a simple and efficient query that finds all categories that have 1 or more events. (using Rails 3) I'm sure I'm having a dumb moment here - any help appreciated :)

  • :from parameter in active record find not well designed?

    - by potlee
i got this error: SQLite3::SQLException: no such column: apis.name: SELECT * FROM examples WHERE ("apis"."name" = 'deep') my code Api.find :all, :from => params[:table_name], :conditions => {:name => 'deep' } I need to make a back end rails application which will be used by a silverlight application. one of the requirements is to fetch simple data from the database. i need to be able to query different tables with the same code.(my app has 2000 tables!) i think it does not make sense for rails to put in "apis" in the WHERE clause. is there any speciic reason for this?

  • Accessing global variables in a flash[:notice]

    - by Trip
This is deals_controller.rb. And it works like this, except two things. Not sure how to call Deal.count to add in my flash[:notice] . I get the hunch that its not calling something global. I need that contional statement back, as I'm pretty sure its responsible for actually adding the new @deal . So I assume my syntax is off. Do note, I added an extra 'end' when I uncomment this block. def create -# This will use the disclaimer_ids submitted from the check boxes in the view -# to add/delete deal.disclaimers entries to matched the list of checked boxes. @deal = Deal.new(params[:deal]) -# <------I Need this commented out IF statement back ------- -#if @deal.valid? && @organization.deals << @deal flash[:notice] = 'Your promotion is published! You may find it in the number 1 position of our #{deal.count} previously posted promotions. To see your promotion, click here."' respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to organization_deals_path(@organization) } format.js -# I Need this IF Statement Back! -#else -#@disclaimers = Disclaimer.all -#render :action = 'new' end end Thanks!

  • What is the best place to store globals in Rails app?

    - by Nick Gorbikoff
Hello. I was wondering if there is the best practice on where to store global settings in a rails app. What I mean by that is i.e: I have a few globals defined that may change, but not likely and it seems inappropriate to store them in DB since they are used so much. For instance I have SYSTEM_EMAIL & SYSTEM_EMAIL_SIGNATURE & SYSTEM_STORAGE_ROOT. Right now I keep them in environment.rb, but I'm not sure if this is the right palce to store them. Thank you

  • Javascript not executing (I included format.js)

    - by Brandon
I added format.js to my controller, yet I still cannot get the js in index.js.erb to execute when I view my index page. The only thing I can figure out is that it must be because of the model name. I had to add ActiveSupport::Inflector.inflections do |inflect| inflect.irregular 'business', 'businesses' end to my inflections.rb file...because my model is called Business. my views/js are located at views/businesses/* Please help before I pull my hair out! All I have in the index.js.erb file is: alert(1); Obviously the goal is that I will get an alert when I finally get the issue fixed, letting me know it is working.

  • Should I split this model and table?

    - by regedarek
I would like to create simple ResumeBank app. Issue: As user I would like to add only two Resumes. Forms for this both Resumes are different with only two fields. Resumes have 12 the same attributes but 2 are diferent. Question: Should I split that Resume model and tables to ex: PolishResume and EnglishResume, polish_remsumes and english_remsumes? Or maybe should I use STI and create PolishResume < Resume and use one table. What are disadvantages of splitting option?

  • Removing "duplicate objects"

    - by keruilin
Let's say I have an array of objects from the same class, with two attributes of concern here: name and created_at. How do I find objects with the same name (considered dups) in the array, and then delete the duplicate record in the database. The object with the most-recent created_at date, however, is the one that must be deleted.

  • How to expire a caches_action with a cache_path?

    - by fstephany
I'm caching an index action with the following: caches_action :index, :cache_path => Proc.new { |c| c.params } expire_action :action => :index The expire_action seems to only expire the index action without any parameters. How can I expire all the caches_action related to index ? (it is a Rails 2.3.5 application)

  • acts_as_list with has_and_belongs_to_many relationship

    - by mculp
I've found an old plugin called acts_as_habtm_list - but it's for Rails 1.0.0. Is this functionality built in acts_as_list now? I can't seem to find any information on it. Basically, I have an artists_events table - no model. The relationship is handled through those two models specifying :has_and_belongs_to_many How can I specify order in this situation?

  • Information not getting into the controller from the view. (authologic model)

    - by Gotjosh
Right now I'm building a project management app in rails, here is some background info: Right now i have 2 models, one is User and the other one is Client. Clients and Users have a one-to-one relationship (client - has_one and user - belongs_to which means that the foreign key it's in the users table) So what I'm trying to do it's once you add a client you can actually add credentials (add an user) to that client, in order to do so all the clients are being displayed with a link next to that client's name meaning that you can actually create credentials for that client. So in order to do that I'm using a helper the link to helper like this. <%= link_to "Credentials", {:controller => 'user', :action => 'new', :client_id => client.id} %> Meaning that he url will be constructed like this: http://localhost:3000/clients/2/user/new By creating the user for the client with he ID of 2. And then capturing the info into the controller like this: @user = User.new(:client_id => params[:client_id]) The weird thing is that EVERY other information BUT the client id it's getting passed and the client ID should be passed with the params[:client_id]. Any ideas? Perhaps it may have something to do with the fact that model User has "acts_as_authentic" because I'm using authologic for it? Model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_authentic belongs_to :client end Controller: def create @user = User.new(:client_id => params[:client_id]) if @user.save flash[:notice] = "Credentials created" else flash[:error] = "Credentials failed" end end View: <% form_for @user do |f| % <p> <%= f.label :login, "Username" %> <%= f.text_field :login %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :password, "Password" %> <%= f.password_field :password %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :password_confirmation, "Password Confirmation" %> <%= f.password_field :password_confirmation %> </p> Let me know if this is sufficient or need more. <%= f.submit "Create", :disable_with => 'Please Wait...' %> <% end %>

  • Using a method defined in appliciaton_controller.rb in application_controller.rb

    - by E.E.33
I want to change my layout based on whether or not the current user is an admin. So I made a simple method to check if current user is admin, I then call that method in application controller. I keep getting the following error: undefined method `is_admin?' for ApplicationController:Class My code looks like this: class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base protect_from_forgery helper_method :current_user, :is_admin? if is_admin? layout 'admin' end ..... protected ..... def is_admin? if current_user.user_role == 'admin' return true end end end How should I be doing this? Thanks

  • Camping: Return user to recent entries, but keep errors

    - by echoback
Users can view a specific entry in my webapp with a URL. /entry/8, for example. If an entry doesn't exist, "Entry not found" gets appended to @messages and I render an error page. I'd like to redirect the user to /recent, but I can't figure out a good way to keep the error message around to be displayed. There are other actions that need to take place in the Recent controller, so I can't just duplicate the query and render :posts.

  • When the user first visits the page I want all the checkboxes to be checked in my index page. Below is the code from my controller and index.html.haml

    - by user1760920
    I want the checkbox to be checked when the user visits the page for the first time. -# This file is app/views/movies/index.html.haml %h1 All Movies = form_tag movies_path, :method => :get, :id => 'ratings_form' do Include: - @all_ratings.each do |rating| = rating = check_box_tag "ratings[#{rating}]", "1", @checked_ratings.include?(rating), :id => "ratings_#{rating}", = submit_tag 'Refresh', :id => 'ratings_submit' %table#movies %thead %tr %th{:class => ("hilite" if @sort == "title")}= link_to "Movie Title", movies_path( :sort => "title", :ratings => @checked_ratings), :id => "title_header" %th Rating %th{:class => ("hilite" if @sort == "release_date")}= link_to "Release Date", movies_path( :sort => "release_date", :ratings => @checked_ratings), :id => "release_date_header" %th More Info %tbody - @movies.each do |movie| %tr %td= movie.title %td= movie.rating %td= movie.release_date %td= link_to "More about #{movie.title}", movie_path(movie) = link_to 'Add new movie', new_movie_path #This is my Controller class MoviesController < ApplicationController def show id = params[:id] # retrieve movie ID from URI route @movie = Movie.find(id) # look up movie by unique ID # will render app/views/movies/show.<extension> by default end def index #get all the ratings available @all_ratings = Movie.all_ratings @checked_ratings = (params[:ratings].present? ? params[:ratings] : []) @sort = params[:sort] @movies = Movie.scoped if @sort && Movie.attribute_names.include?(@sort) @movies = @movies.order @sort end id @checked_ratings.empty? @checked_ratings = @all_ratings end unless @checked_ratings.empty? @movies = @movies.where :rating => @checked_ratings.keys end end def new # default: render 'new' template end def create @movie = Movie.create!(params[:movie]) flash[:notice] = "#{@movie.title} was successfully created." redirect_to movies_path end def edit @movie = Movie.find params[:id] end def update @movie = Movie.find params[:id] @movie.update_attributes!(params[:movie]) flash[:notice] = "#{@movie.title} was successfully updated." redirect_to movie_path(@movie) end def destroy @movie = Movie.find(params[:id]) @movie.destroy flash[:notice] = "Movie '#{@movie.title}' deleted." redirect_to movies_path end end In the controller, I set the @checked_rating to be @all_rating if the @checked.rating is empty but it does not do anything. I tried putting :checked = true in the index.html.haml on the check_box_tag but that makes the checkboxes checked everytime the page is refreshed. Everytime I check a particular checkbox and hit refresh button the page loads with all the checkboxes checked. Please help me with this. Thank you in Advance.

  • Rails date format in form field

    - by Jack
Hello I'd like my dates in the mm/dd/year format in text fields. However, they currently displays as 2010-03-26. Is there a global setting I can set to change this? I tried the following, which seems to update the .to_s method, but form fields stay the same. ActiveSupport::CoreExtensions::Date::Conversions::DATE_FORMATS.merge!(:default => '%m/%d/%Y') Thanks

  • date enable disable

    - by Newbie
I have an "add new product page" and I have a field in the database table "jos_stockmovement", "start_week" which contains data for the year and week. In my "Add New Product" page I have a field dropdown-list named "Start Week" which holds the year and week, for example, "2012/36". How do I disable the past week? I all I want to enable is the current week. Heres my code: <td colspan="99"> <%= fld.select :start_week, options_for_select( StockMovement.order("year DESC, week DESC").map { | val | [ "#{ val.year }/#{ val.week }", val.id ] }, :selected => @product.start_week ), :class => "ddl_SW" %> </td>

  • Replace umlaute (äüö) for SEO link in rails - best way

    - by ole_berlin
Hi, I'm using the permalink_fu plugin to create permalinks from titles. My problem is: If the title contains german characters, they are just replaced with '_'. What I need is something that replaces ä with ae ü with ue ö with oe I fount String.tr but the problem here is that it replaces 1 character with 1 replacement, so it would work for replacing é with e ø with o etc. Does anyone have a nice and clean solution for that? Thanks

  • Rails: User specific sequential column

    - by Alex Marchant
I have an inventory system, where a User has many inventory. We have a barcode column which needs to be sequential for each user. I run into a problem however when doing bulk association building. I end up getting several inventories for a user with the same barcode. For example: Inventory Table: id | user_id | barcode 1 | 1 | 1 2 | 1 | 2 3 | 2 | 1 4 | 2 | 2 5 | 1 | 3 In the Inventory model I have before_validation :assign_barcode, on: :create def assign_barcode self.barcode = (user.inventories.order(barcode: :desc).first.try(:barcode) || 0) + 1 end It generally works, but ran into a problem when seeding my db: (1..5).each do user.inventories.build(...) end user.save I end up with a bunch of inventories for user that have the same barcode. How can I ensure that inventories have unique barcodes even when adding inventories in bulk?

  • Humanizing time

    - by keruilin
I have a number of products that are perishable. Therefore, each product has an attribute called hours_expiration that tells how many hours the product can be used before it goes bad. For ex, apple expires in 168 hours; nut expires in 4320 hours. Given, the product's hours-to-expiration and the current time (Time.now or Date.now), how can I humanize the time-to-expiration in some of the following sample ways? Your item is set to expire in about: 6 months and 14 days 1 month and 13 days 1 month and 1 day 27 days 1 day 23 hours 1 hour 50 minutes 1 minute Looking for something robust and simple!

  • Debugging/Logging Techniques for End Users

    - by James Burgess
I searched a bit, but didn't find anything particularly pertinent to my problem - so please do excuse me if I missed something! A few months back I inherited the source to a fairly-popular indie game project and have been working, along with another developer, on the code-base. We recently made our first release since taking over the development but we're a little stuck. A few users are experiencing slowdowns/lagging in the current version, as compared to the previous version, and we are not able to reproduce these issues in any of our various development environments (debug, release, different OSes, different machines, etc.). What I'd like to know is how can we go about implementing some form of logging/debugging mechanism into the game, that users can enable and send the reports to us for examination? We're not able to distribute debug binaries using the MSVS 2010 runtimes, due to the licensing - and wouldn't want to, for a variety of reasons. We'd really like to get to the bottom of this issue, even if just to find out it's nothing to do with our code base but everything to do with their system configuration. At the moment, we just have no leads - and the community isn't a very technically-savvy one, so we're unable to rely on 'expert' bug reports or investigations. I've seen the debug logging mechanism used in other applications and games for everything from logging simple errors to crash dumps. We're really at a loss at this stage as to how to address these issues, having been over every commit to the repository from the previous to the current version and not finding any real issues.
