  I'm working with JAXB, and I'm having trouble to unmarshall a file; The following lines, on the beginning of the file, are causing trouble: <!DOCTYPE package PUBLIC "+//ISBN 0-9673008-1-9//DTD OEB 1.2 Package//EN" "http://openebook.org/dtds/oeb-1.2/oebpkg12.dtd"> <package xmlns="http://openebook.org/namespaces/oeb-package/1.0/" unique-identifier="uid"> If I delete all the !DOCTYPE it gives no Exception, but it doesn't load any value either.   I've been looking around for a way to programmatically parse XSD files to generate an XML mapping so that I can take any XSD file and create a parser that will parse any XML file that conforms to it, and my google-fu has been coming up short. XSOM looks promising, as it will parse an XSD file and make all its attributes available in a straight forward way. Are there any other options or standard libraries available that will produce an XML file parser from an XSD file? [Conclusion] Thanks everyone for your responses, they were a real help. I was able to write implementations using JAXP, Eclipses EMF and in XSOM that all worked as desired. JAXP was very straight forward and easy to learn and do. EMF was actually a pain to get going properly, there were so many jars that had to be included for it to work standalone that I would not recommend it. XSOM was even simpler than the JAXP implementation, so I went with it in the end.

  I'm doing a lot of work with a DSLs at the moment and was wondering if anyone knew of a tool that could generate a parser for my bnf specification that does not require a run-time library (pure java source parser)? I'm committed to using XTEXT for a future Eclipse plug-in but I need a nice small version for my library itself and don't want to add another jar dependency.   I have a model: class Person (models.Model): name = models.CharField () birthday = models.DateField () age = models.IntegerField () I want to make age field to behave like a property: def get_age (self): return (datetime.datetime.now() - self.birthday).days // 365 age = property (get_age) but at the same time I need age to be a true field, so I can find it in Person._meta.fields, and assign attributes to it: age.help_text = "Age of the person", etc. Obviously I cannot just override Person.save() method to calculate and store age in the database, because it inevitably will become wrong later (in fact, it shouldn't be stored in the database at all). Actually, I don't need to have setters now, but a nice solution must have setting feature. Is it possible in Django, or probably there is a more pythonic and djangoic approach to my problem?

• Can I use JPA/EJB3 on a table that was created at runtime?

  This is weird and probably not possible but I'll ask anyway. I'm making this app that reads in a meta file and creates some tables then populates them with data. I was wondering if I could somehow use JPA to populate those tables. Obviously, there's no way I could have an entity with annotations on it since the table didn't exist at compile time. But perhaps JPA or the entity manager has a way to load data into a nameless table? If possible, I'd expect a method like entityManager.update("myTableName", hashMapOfColumnNamesAndColumnDataValues);

  A few months ago, I had to dynamically add a log4net appender at runtime.  Now I find myself in another log4net situation.  I need to modify the configuration of my appenders at runtime. My client requires all files generated by our applications to be saved to a specific location.  This location is determined at runtime.  Therefore, I want my FileAppenders to log their data to this specific location – but I won't know the location until runtime so I can't add it to the XML configuration file I'm using. Until, that is, I subclass BaseClass and add additional methods, and code compete on an instance of the derived class. PDT will only recognise the methods from BaseClass and not those from the derived class. What I need is something like @return self or @return this. Does PDT have such functionality? Or is there an alternate trick without having to declare these methods in every derived class?

• How can I pipe a large amount of data as a runtime argument?

  Running an executable JAR on a linux platform here. The program it self works on a somewhat large amount of data, basically a list of URLs... could be up to 2k. Currently I get this from a simple DB call. But I was thinking that instead of creating a new mode and writing SQL to get a new result set and having to redploy everytime, I could just make the program more robust by passing in the result set (the list of URLs) that need to be worked on... so, within a linux environment, is there a pain-free/simple way to get the result set and pass it in dynamically? I know file i/o is one, but it doesn't seem to be effecient because each file has to be named, as well more logic to handle grabbing the correct file, creating a file with a unique name, etc.

  I know there is an invoke function that does the stuff, I am overall interested in the "correctness" of using such a behavior. My issue is this: I have a Service Object witch contains methods which I consider services. What I want to do is alter the behavior of those services without later intrusion. For example: class MyService { public ServiceResponse ServeMeDonuts() { do stuff... return new ServiceResponse(); } after 2 months I find out that I need to offer the same service to a new client app and I also need to do certain extra stuff like setting a flag, or make or updating certain data, or encode the response differently. What I can do is pop it up and throw down some IFs. In my opinion this is not good as it means interaction with tested code and may result in un wanted behaviour for the previous service clients. So I come and add something to my registry telling the system that the "NewClient" has a different behavior.   A panel contains two labels which are generated by mouse clicks on the panel. I want to connect these two labels by drawing a line between them probably by dragging the mouse pointer from one label to another. There are two events here - one is clicking on the panel to generate the labels and the second is connecting these two labels (mouse pressed, mouse dragged and mouse released events). Both these event need to call the repaint() method but for different purposes. But there can be only one paint() method. The problem is when I connect these two labels, the line comes up but the rest of the components on the panel disappear.

• Upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04

  On doing an upgrade from 10.10. to 11.04 using Upgrade Manager everything works fine. But on installing a software that bundle its owns runtime environment( loader and system files) and installs the custom runtime ( basically loader) in the location where the native one resides, the above mentioned upgrade fails.(Upgrade starts and after sometime it encounters an error and aborts.) Basically , /usr/bin/dpkg throws up an error on being unable to locate a system shared library in the aforesaid third party runtime folder ( /usr/bin/dpkg should not search the third party runtime folder.Instead it should look at the system default folder) But if we remove the installed third party loader from the default system location /lib and place it in some other location , the upgrade problem goes away. This makes me believe /usr/bin/dpkg invokes(loads) the wrong loader and as such goes looking for the dependent libraries in the third party folder. Can someone take a look at this ? is there some bug with dpkg
