  In an effort to improve the user experience changes have been made to Service Request (SR) creation process using My Oracle Support (MOS). This change is now online for several high-use CRM products. We aimed to streamline the process by reducing the number of questions, making subsequent questions conditional on previous responses, reducing lists of problem categories, and recommending key documents/evidence which should be supplied to help the Support engineer progress the issue. • How to fix slow wireless with Intel 4965 AGN? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Slow wireless with an Intel 4965 We run Ubuntu 12.04, 32bit, with the current kernel 3.2.27-generic on an MSI EX700. I've already added the 11n_disable=1 tweek, without whcih, wireless has been unusable. Now, it works OK, but speedtest shows: Windows XP - down 11.68mbps, up 2.07mbps Ubuntu 12.04 - down 2.06mbps up 2.0mbps We've disabled ipv6, tried static and dinamic IPs, tried both swcrypto=0 and swcrypto=1 options, none of whcih made any difference. The problem may be the symptom of high packet loss. • Searching for fast skeletal animation algorithm

  Is it theoretically possible to dynamicaly animate scene with 100-150 400 poly characters meshes on high-end GL ES 2.0 mobile devices or i definetley should use prerendered keyframe animation? Scene have only one light source and precalculated shadow maps. View from top like in Warcraft 3. No any other meshes or objects. 2d collision detecting between objects calculated via spatial hashing. It can be any other algorithm besides ragdoll, but it must supply fast and simple skeletal animation for frame with 100+ low poly meshes for each mesh. Any ideas?

Zach DeVito (the main author) write about the use of terra : A scripting-language with high-performance extensions..... An embedded JIT-compiler for building languages..... A stand-alone low-level language.... But (may be my fault) I don't understand if terra is: a luaJit competitor a better system to interface with c library something better than luaJit using llvm Can someone help me to better understand what is going on terralang project ? • Chemical alternatives to caffeine / coffee for mental clarity and alertness? [on hold]

  Currently I drink about 2 cups of coffee or tea a day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon usually). However I'm very sensitive to stimulants and drinking caffeine regularly keeps my resting heart rate really high, causes occasional heart palpitations, and sometimes trouble sleeping. I've tried going without coffee, and while I can do it, I have trouble concentrating at work and even just enjoying my work. I'm borderline ADD (or possibly full on ADD, but haven't been checked). And I tend to lose focus easily if I don't have some coffee or tea in me. For health reasons, I'd like to cut it out completely, but when I do my work performance seriously suffers. I already work out (cardio and/or weight lifting) 5 - 6 days a week, and get an average of about 8 hours of sleep, but I still can't focus throughout the day without caffeine. Are there any over the counter chemical or supplement alternatives for mental clarity that you've used with success don't cause the additional unwanted physical side effects that come with regular stimulants like caffeine?

• Why are there different programming languages [closed]

  I'm not asking about the usefulness of the languages that do exist already: I already know, and agree, that different languages are better for different purposes. However, why don't they just have a single language that can do it all? Why, when C# was created, they didn't keep everything from C and C++ and just add a few things, so that it can be used as both a low-level and high-level language? I see no harm in adding all kinds of commands to a single language that would allow it to be good for everything, and even eliminate the need for all other languages. Someone from another thread said that if there's a flaw in a certain language, its successor might not have it. However, why don't we just update that language to remove the flaw, and/or add anything that's missing? Arrays are different in Java and C#, but why not have them both, just use different commands for them? And so on...

• Reasons to use C++ ?

  I've read here and in other places that learning C++, C or other low level languages are a must to get a more low level perspective on development. I agree with this, but I find it hard to find a reason to use C++ over C# or similar languages. Most of the work I do is web based, so there's no need for C++ there. Other work is windows based, and most things work fine in C# there, so what sort of situation could I use C++? I don't do any high performance stuff, nor do I create games, mostly business applications. I'm looking for an excuse to expand on my C++ knowledge but I need some motivation other than 'because the internet said I should'.

My final goal is to make a handheld game console. More like a home made NES/SNES handheld console or even an Atari. I have found out about RaspberryPI and Arduino.   Hey all, I know there's been questions about this before, but mine is a little more specific. I work for a high traffic website and we want to start tracking our visitors better. Unfortunately, Google Analytics is not an option at the moment, so what I'm looking for is some alternatives, preferrably server-side (but not necessarily). We're currently running Urchin, but what I'm missing most there is the way you can set conversions in Analytics and then track (for example) which keywords convert better or which landing pages convert better. Also, A/B testing is something I really miss. Which analytics tools can be compared to analytics in terms of advanced segmentation, navigation summaries, A/B testing, etc?

• Disqus 2012 comments NOT being indexed by Google

  We run a high-traffic website at http://www.onedirection.net and we've been using Disqus throughout this year, initially to great effect. We accepted the upgrade to Disqus 2012 back in June, loving the increased user experience and the better community feel - albeit back to an Iframe again. However the fact we were specifically told that the comments are now being indexed by Google was great, and the dynamic nature of the iFrame suited our site (all our pages are cached, so by using Disqus the comments are updated straight away). However, it seems that the Disqus 2012 comments are not being indexed, and we've noticed an obvious fall in traffic over the last few months. Initially we didn't put this down to Disqus and focused on other issues (Google algorithm updates etc). But we're quickly coming down the reasoning that our pages now contain less indexable text, and we are getting less traffic because of this. We've tried emailing Disqus directly but they're very slow and don't seem keen to help. Any thoughts on this?

• Battery issues on Dell Inspiron XPS14z Ultrabook

  I'm new in the Ubuntu world. I just bought a Dell Inspiron XPS 14z Ultrabook and installed Ubuntu to dual boot with Windows thanks to the Ubuntu Secured Remix package. Everything works fine except the battery. I have, at most, 1h 30' battery life. With windows it can last more than 3h. Moreover, and I guess it's related to the battery issues, the fan is constantly running at high speed while it does not when working with windows. Do you know where can be the problem?

• Is it okay to have many Abstract classes in your application?

  We initially wanted to implement a Strategy pattern with varying implementations of the methods in a commmon interface. These will get picked up at runtime based on user inputs. As it's turned out, we're having Abstract classes implementing 3 - 5 common methods and only one method left for a varying implementation i.e. the Strategy. Update: By many abstract classes I mean there are 6 different high level functionalities i.e. 6 packages , and each has it's Interface + AbstractImpl + (series of Actual Impl). Is this a bad design in any way? Any negative views in terms of later extensibility - I'm preparing for a code/design review with seniors.

• GRUB install error

  Whenever I try to install Ubuntu, I get a fatal error that reads: 'Executing'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error.' Its the same as this, but my graphics appear to be running fine. Also, I'm a complete novice at this and really need simple instructions to understand what I'm doing. I've tried booting from a LiveCD and a USB stick. I don't want to dual boot it because its an old computer that I erased XP and plan on only using Linux on it. When I used a USB stick and set the persistent file storage high, I was able to run it, but only as long as the flash drive was plugged in.

  When XNA was released in 2006, I was happy and started doing indie attempts. After 3 years or so, there were lots of forum discussions on prospects of AAA game development in C#, and how a high performance vedio game can easily be programmed in C#. Suddenly after 2-3 more years, these discussions have died down and everybody seems like recommending native C++... What programming language should I practice on for long term? Should I stick with C# or do an extra effort for C++? Will AAA game companies adopt C# as a replacement to C++? Note : I aim to work at a AAA game company.

You reach a point near the end, where you're starting to speak about terms of employment, salary, etc.., and you're trying to show off the environment he'll be working in. When you mention that programmers at your company have systems with two monitors, the interviewee stops you and informs you that he won't need a computer. He only ever writes code by hand, in a note-book, and relies on his phone for sending/receiving email. This is not something he's willing to budge on. Would you still hire him? • Can't set proper resolution with a Geforce 520

  I installed the 12.04 LTS but cannot get my two monitors working. The latest nvidia-current drivers installed, but i just cant set proper resolution. My card is a geforce 520 1 DVI 1 VGA. With the nvidia drivers installed i can set the DVI monitor to 1600x1200 but the VGA no further than 1360x768 (with nvidia-settings). Without the nvidia driver (using the nouveau) it doesn't work either. This same issue i had with 11.10 and i had high hopes for 12.04.

• Regulating outgoing traffic on ubuntu VM

  I am making a virtual network setup for my high school cybersecurity team to practice. I am connecting all the VMs together through a VPN and then people who are practicing will VPN in and ssh/remote desktop into the different VMs. The problem is that for practicing, they will need root access into the VMs and because the VMs are connecting to my personal network, the VMs pose a security risk to my personal network. Is there any way in either VMWare or VirtualBox or even making an unchangeable iptable (I can make all the windows VMs go thru a linux VM) to prevent people from connecting to my local network via the VM?

• pulseaudio: no microphone configuration

  Updated Ubuntu to precise from oneiric on a Dell Inspirion Mini 10 (with an Intel HDA-Soundcard). I can't remember having any issues with the microphone. I didn't need it - I tried ekiga the first time in precise. I couldn't hear any sound in the echo test of ekiga, so I switched to the "System Preferences" and looked for the microphone to boost it. Surprisingly, the microphone input was greyed out - I couldn't mute or unmute, i couldn't even move the volume-slider. On the other hand: I could change the microphone-setting on console with alsamixer, so don't worry about that… :) I just wanted to ask, how to get pulseaudio back to the known, comfortable behaviour. Some newbies won't know the trick to use alsamixer… My soundcard (output of lspci): 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) Greets!

• schema.org specification for generic pages or posts on a CMS

  I'm trying to determine the best possible schema.org type to declare for the content section in the template of a content management system, which will handle regular news posts for small, local hospitality businesses. The type should represent the content of that page, which is likely to be a wide range of things. The description for Article pretty strongly encourages its use to be limited to the articles of a publication. For purely semantic reasons, I'm not sure if Blog is appropriate in this case -- businesses won't be creating typical "blog" content but are more likely to be writing about upcoming events, special deals, awards, etc. Would Webpage be appropriate in this instance? Although I'm a fan of the schema.org concept, I frequently find myself unsure how broadly or narrowly I'm meant to infer the meaning of a type. In such cases, is it safe to use a high-level element, such as CreativeWork, or does this blunt the usefulness of the markup?

• Deferring questions about salary expectations until the second interview [closed]

  I usually find that interviewers ask about expected salary on a first interview, but I usually feel uncomfortable discussing such details at an early stage. I feel that low-balling a figure might result in under-selling myself, whereas going too high might lose me the chance of a second interview. I also like time to reflect on my interview experience before vocalising my expectations. I recently realised that in one interview I prefixed my salary figure with a justification, which made me come across as a little desperate and unsure of myself. Is there a good way to defer such questions until a second interview (assuming I get one, of course) without hurting my chances or weakening my position?
